.....Randy, nothing like good old {and plenty of them}, CCA's on a cold crisp morning to start a vehicle....Always pay attention what ever I purchase in  a vehicle that the CCA's are adequate under the hood.

C W and Walt....Looks like lots of rain still coming your way and we both are looking at that band of pink {ice}, on the weather map out west of us....So far, we're being told our temps will keep it rain at least until Sunday evening and then we'll get some winter of some kind....We may escape the nasty ice formations their talking about on the weather channel this morning that will form south of us.....Some  as much as 2" thick on everything....Sure hope we can miss that....Had our experience of that 2 years ago here.....Over a hundred thousand without power in the Muncie area through that episode.  Including us right here....Just a bit out of Muncie.

Temp now is showing 42.4.....

And just over the hill from Sacto. this morning it is ZERO!  We made it to a high of 15 yesterday, but with wind chill it was -5.  It certainly is a day to stay inside and work on puzzles.  Before I go though I'll have a bowl of Oatmeal with raisins.  Many thanks to the cooks!

It is cold in Omaha this morning. The temperature is 5 degrees and we've picked up about an inch of snow. The computer model forecasts are looking up for Omaha again and the NWS has issued a winter storm watch from tomorrow afternoon through Monday morning. 4 to 8 inches of snow expected from this afternoon through Monday morning, but that could go up if the next couple of computer model runs continue their current trend.

Just a quick note before I get busy servicing that snowblower- 20.7 degrees and cloudy here.  Not a good day for trainwatching.  The weather machine must be aimed at yourself and us now, eh Willy?

Reminds me of when I was in USAF.  Had to fly overseas, taking a military flight out of Travis AFB.  Arrived in San Francisco, expecting sunny, warm California....  It wasn't 25, but it wasn't warm, either....

Did someone leave the Air Conditioner on in the DD&CS last night? I think some of the cold air spilled out to my house! I live in a valley, so I usually get just a little colder than everyone else. This morning when looking at my thermometer, the temp read 5ºF below zero! I think the weather folks said that it'll be worse before it's better, too.

Just to show you all just how cold it is, here's a shot I took yesterday when the temp was a balmy 0ºF. These are some of the omnipresent and usually quite annoying geese that reside along the creek where I live:

While I'm not a huge fan of their habits, I do kind of feel sorry for them. I'm just hoping that a certain chicken that lives south of here is fairing better than these fowl.

Dan, after driving around some of the side streets of Denver and Arvada yesterday, I can confirm that your appraisal of the snowplowing this season isn't very far from the truth.

Speaking of snow, Willy, I really do appreciate the light accumulations so far. But, if I'm making requests, can we get just a little cloud cover tonight? Those clear skies really let the mercury drop!

Well must be on my way. Hope you all stay warm!

....I wonder why the fowl in Chris's picture....don't seek some kind of wind break protection when conditions are so bad.....I sure wonder when I see birds sitting on utility wires {of course up in the air}, where the wind really blows...why they too don't seek better shelter as cold air is whipping around them....

IIRC the waterfowl in that pic, have insulation from their feathers which are hollow, thus greatly minimizing weather's effect on their bodies.  Hey Willy...I appreciate that you're learning how the 'weather machine' works and we finally got some wintry precip...but ice?  Way too slippery!  White fluffy stuff is better!  The cold air is helping to make ice so I can go fishing tho...so I guess I can't really complain.  Who said no pizza today???  That's un-American!  I vote for a Pep/Sausage!

Beautiful day outside - 47 degrees and climbing.  Time for some walking.  At least I can walk my normal stride without worrying about sweating.  I'll be back later to snag some of that pizza.

Down from 43 degrees at 2 am to 22 as I write this.  Fortunately no precip for the moment, but that can change...

We had a light coating of ice on the driveway and front steps from last night.  Not nearly as bad off as many others.  The ice is gone from the driveway, but the steps were still slippery until just a few minutes ago when I gave them a treatment with a little table salt.  Yes, using a salt shaker.  Neighbors may now be thinking that I have lost it, completly.

Dan-If you can, need a report on road conditions from you tomorrow morning.  Stepson wants to drive up and see a buddy taking a midterm class at UWO and return Monday evening.  Drop me an e-mail or post the word here at the diner.

Chris is not the only one who's community has a problem with the @#!% geese. We have scores of them in Sioux Falls, and they seem to congregate anywhere there is a body of water, such as a lake or a river. And you can hardly walk anywhere in the parks or on the bike trails without stepping in goose doo-doo. And there should be a year-round, open hunting season on not only the @#!% geese, but crows, pigeons, starlings and grackles as well!! Sometimes dead birds can be a good thing.Dead [xx(]

Something that I learned from my mom:

To keep ice from forming on steps, fill a bucket with warm water, add some dishwashing liquid, and pour it over the steps.

Great - ice with soap in it!  Gives slippery a new meaning!

I'm putting my order in for Large Goetta and Pepperoni with some ice cold Dr Pepper.

Just got up from a well deserved and needed nap. Little Babies will do that to you.

Like CW said, it's been raining all day and not going to stop anytime soon until about Monday. Right now they are forecasting the Ohio River  to crest Monday at almost 55 feet. Flood stage in Cincy is 52 feet.

 Everyone have a great Sunday!!

Well, we had a great time with Mutt's sister this afternoon.  Unfortunately, she didn't have enough time for me to take a picture of her and Mutt.  Maybe the next time she comes down.

Time for the list of pizzas available for our SATURDAY NIGHT PIZZA FEST:

1.  Cheese 2. Supreme  3.  Pepperoni/sausage  4.  Goetta  5.  Hawaiian and 6.  Supreme w/mushrooms and extra peppers.

Sorry Jay, but you'll have to bring your own anchovies this week, to put on your pizza.  I didn't have my helper tonight.

Everyone have a great evening, and eat as much pizza as you want.  (Just don't make yourself sick, o.k?)

WOW!! Busy,Busy day today!! Very much enjoyed visit with my sis,celebrating Her Birthday;

and I guess second Christmas. Eventhough she doesn't live that far from here, seems

like our schedules never coincide so that we can have a really good visit.

Will take a Supreme Pizz a and a LARGE Sierra Mist Please!! Dinner [dinner]

Weather is still on the Iffy side,no heavy rain just yet,but being expected at anytime.

(Temps still in the high 50s......right now!!)

We had some very severe flooding in the city about 10 years ago and along with an Anniversary of the'37 Flood, some people are getting a bit "antsy" about predicted rain totals.

Can't remember what the Upper and Lower Gauges on the river are,but think we're right

at,or just barely below flood stage here. Our MSD crews are on 24 hour standby to

get the extra pumping stations going and to put Flood Gates in if necessary.(normal happening)

Ooooo, Gel cell batteries!!!  The truck in my avatar is a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 24-valve version of the B-block Cummins stuffed under the hood.  So far the only item added is the stainless steel step bars, they make a big difference getting in and out of the truck.  Future work involves stacks, heavy duty front and rear bumpers, strengthening of both axles, and engine work, probably in that order and as finances allow.  And yes, there is enough room in the engine bay for twin turbochargers,Mischief [:-,]Mischief [:-,]Mischief [:-,] I have seen these engines make over 600 hp and 1100 lb/ft of torque.

Block heater is also plugged in and working, it's nice to have heat in the morning....

Jay, ran okay last night on the ice, and today on the snow, if I feel the rear slipping, it goes into 4wd.  The tires I have on my truck (Michelin LTX A/S) bite very well on the ice, they are siped for better traction.

I'll take some of the pepperoni/sausage, please.  See everyone later.

Randy, I didn't have any doubt that your rig could handle most snow drifts that they throw out our way.  That ice is tricky stuff, though.  As they say, keep the shiny side up.

Well, it looks like I'm the first one in the Diner this morning, it's dark here, guess I'd better turn some lights on.

The coffee is brewing, I've mixed a fesh batch of orange juice and  I've put the hot chocolate out on the counter. And there are two pans of my cinnamon rolls here..........fresh from the oven. Better grab them while they are still warm.Chef [C=:-)]Dinner [dinner]

I've been awake since 4:00 this morning, and right now it's not quite as cold here as it was at this time yesterday morning. We have 13 degrees ABOVE 0 and the wind chill leaves us at +5. Sioux Falls is supposed to be getting some snow in the middle of the afternoon. It probably will not amount to very much.
