Good morning to all! Know it's going to be a slooooow day here in the DD/CS. It usually is on the weekends. But that doesn't stop the cooking.
Ray, thanks for making the cinnamon rolls for breakfast. They sure do smell good! And taste very good!!
Our Sunday Dinner menu will be: Country Fried Steak w/baked potatoes, corn, green beans, lima beans, peas, (giving you your choice of green veggies, here), Fried Chicken, mashed taters (not sure everyone likes baked taters w/fried chicken), and for dessert: we have: chocolate cake, white cake w/white icing, peach pie, apple pie, pecan pie, and chocolate pie.
Everyone have a great day, stay safe, dry and warm, and come back in this afternoon for some food!!

Good morning! CW - That Sunday dinner sounds delicious! I will be in again later to have some.
It looks we will get 4 to 8 inches of snow today and tonight, probably more like 5 or 6 inches in Omaha with slightly higher amounts just off to our north. The big mess continues across Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Illinois too. I hope everyone stays safe today.
TTFN.

I am definitely coming over for the Country Fried Steak with buttered peas and mashed taters.
Good morning everyone!
A little nippy here this morning, but a warming trend is forecast for the rest of the week.
Today's focus will be Psalm 22.

What, Iowa isn't worth mentioning?
Snowblower is ready. BRING IT ON.
And to get me ready, I'll take a big plate of that fantastic dinner.

Oops, sorry! Iowa too. It is snowing pretty good here in Omaha, but I'm a bit concerned that the dry slot is going to get us in a couple of hours. There is more snow behind it, but it could cut into our accumulations if it does indeed come overhead.
You've got the snow coming a little later this afternoon and tonight, Brian. Get ready!
Well, I've got the next round of Sunday Dinner on the warmer bar. Especially for our good patrons on the west coast. After all, they need to eat, too!! And also for mid west and east coasters who want an early dinner/late lunch. At any rate, everything is ready, so mosey on up to the warmer bar, and fill your plates!
As I guessed, the dry slot is swallowing us whole, at least for the time being. What a disappointment.
Lunch was great CW! I may just have to come in later and have the same thing for dinner too.
....So far our luck is holding....Rain and rain only so far this weekend. We'd be buried by now if the temp would have turned it to snow or worse....ice.
39 degrees now.
Quentin
Latest for here says 2-4" snow here by tomorrow morning. I'll take that as opposed to the potential ice not far south of the state line.
Willy, I'll have to see if there is a good rate for the move, but maybe the WSOR would leave a couple of open hoppers here in town. We could fill them with snow and run them over to the UP at Janesville for a run to Omaha. Back in the day, it would have been easier when the line was Milwaukee Road with trackage through to Omaha via Beloit and Savanna, IL. Oh, well.

Well, it started snowing here in Sioux Falls at about 1:00 this afternoon, and so far we have about a half an inch of the white stuff on the ground.........and I think we will end up with a lot more snow than what I originally thought we would get. I only wish that we had gotten it at Christmas time. I just got back from a birthday party/open house for an old friend of mine who will be 80 years old on Tuesday. And it doesn't seem to be quite as cold as it was early this morning. With the snow coming down as it is, the visibility is not very good here.
I think I'll stop in at the Diner for dinner tonight. CW's description of what will be on the menu for tonight sounds pretty good to me.

This was my birthday cake which my neighborhood grocery store produced in 2004 for my 50th. I shared it will all my friends who work for Howes Oil Company in Sioux Falls. Unfortunately, it all got eaten.
I was looking for a reasonably good picture of myself to share with other members of this forum, but I don't have anything else in a j-peg format in my files. But at least a few of you have some idea of what I look like.
Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I am ready for some of that country fried chicken with all the fixin's. Still a little early to eat dinner here on the west coast, but I had a light lunch.
Ray, it is easy to convert pics from one format to another. One of the easiest ways is to bring the pic up in Paint, and then do a "Save As...". So, if you have pics in formats other than JPG and have been holding out on us for that reason, well,...
.....Just watched Russ Loving give a talk {recorded}, from the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore....It was broadcast on C-Span 2....He then took the audience for a walking tour of some areas of the Musuem. Looks like they have the facility totally back in shape from the heavy snow load bringing down some of the roof several years ago.
So far....we're avoiding the ice here....and sure hope it continues. We're still at 38.5 so we're holding it off. Some areas are looking like it did here 2 years ago when it took our power system down in this area...Some for upwards of 12 days.....Feel sorry for those folks down in Olklahoma, etc....
Jay; Glad you didn't take a tumble in your driveway . Tanglefoot Cannonball made a crash dive in my gravel drive with no snow or ice. Not a smooth move . Broke 4 ribs & punctured a lung . Tuesday was not a good day in Ariz. for me . Respectfully , Cannonball

Well that sucks. The cook makes a killer chicken soup, and the cat can give up the hammock for you, but it's probably going to take a little more to get you on the go. Anyway, here's hoping for a quick mend.

I went by there a couple of years ago some time after the repairs and reopening. They did an excellent job on the roundhouse, but at least at the time there was still severe damage to several locomotives that were on the floor when the roof collapsed. Going out there next April and I will probably go up and spend an afternoon there.
Morning all! First let me say....
THANK YOU WILLY! IT'S FINALLY SNOWING!
That snow machine of yours is awesome! On to breakfast...Since it's snowing and I'm in an even better mood than normal we'll start the week off with steak and eggs. It's tenderloin steak trimmed so there's no fat! Eggs however you want 'em. Also there'll be some instant oatmeal available for those who want lighter fare. Mook we've got some 'beagles' left that are still fresh so you can sink your fangs into those. All the beverages are where they need to be so have at 'em!
Dan
The snow has begun here, but not with the severity they were suggesting we'd see. It's still early in the day, though, and being a federal holiday, I hear my bed calling me back.
I was at the B&O museum over Thanksgiving, and were it not for the several still damaged locomotives surrounded by plexiglass enclosures, you wouldn't know anything had happened since my previous visit there. It's a wonderful place to visit, and I recommend it highly. In fact, if you are in that area, you can throw in the inner harbor (weather permitting) and run up I83 a bit (take a right at York) to Strasburg and all it has to offer the railfan.
Bearclaw and tea, please, then back to my regularly scheduled pillow.
Good Monday morning, everyone! At least, everyone who doesn't have today off work, due to MLKJr Day.
Dan, thanks for getting breakfast ready this morning! I always appreciate having good help here in the DD/CS kitchen! Unless Mookie decides to go into work, with everyone else observing the holiday, I doubt we'll see her in here today. But maybe she'll pop in for a little visit, anyway.
I'll start with a large cup of coffee, a small glass of juice, and I'll partake of some steak tenderloin, eggs, and some biscuits and gravy, also.
Here in Louisville, KY, we are at our high for today: 60, with light rain, and heavier rain on the way. Temps will be slowly dropping, to about 40 by 7 p.m., then we get snow coming in. Think the snow tonight will be just flurries. And right now, they're saying our high for tomorrow will only be 32 around here, with snow flurries. So far, not looking for any accumulation.
Does anyone have any requests for lunch and dinner/supper tonight? I think, here at home, we'll be having black angus steak, tenderized, with baked potatoes & salad.
Everyone have a great day, and take care.

Good morning folks. I've been up for about a half an hour here and it's another COLD morning here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Right now we have a temperature of 1 degree above 0, and the wind chill leaves us at 12 below 0. The wind is out of the NW at 8 mph. It started snowing here yesterday afternoon at about 1:00, and so far we have an roughly an inch to an inch and a half of the white on the ground. But the white is pretty for a while.
I'll be going to a job interview with the management at our local Hobby Lobby store at 11:00 this morning, and then another interview I will be doing tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 with one of our Hy-Vee Foods stores. I've been out of work far too long, and I kind of have a gut level feeling within myself that something may finally break for me this week. So those of you who believe that God answers prayers, please keep me in your prayers. Thank you!
good morning
yo willy turn the water off please. when this stuff does freeze we are going to have one big ice rink.the fields are full the ditches are full and now the rivers are getting really full.
stay safe

I just finished digging myself out, and we got far more snow than I thought we had earlier this morning. I took my recylcables out for my garbage man to pick up and when I stepped out into the snow, it was three to four inches deep. But I understand that this is nothing compared to what a lot of people in the south are having to deal with. I heard on the radio that a lot of people in the deep south are without electrical power and have had to deal with freezing rain. Right now we have a temperature of 7 degrees below 0 in Sioux Falls.
The snow has stopped, the "wintry mix" has started - there's ice on my windows. I think I'd rather have the snow.
Hearing a few reports of vehicles off the road, schools were closed anyhow. Good day to stay home, after a walk down to the convenience store for milk and the paper. Got a couple of projects to work on, anyhow.
It looks like Dan is happy with the snow machine setting. I see I have disappointed a few other folks though. Looks like I still have some fine tuning to do.
Here in Omaha, there is nothing to be disappointed about. The snow really got going again yesterday evening and continued into the night. This morning I measured 5.5 to 6 inches in various places throughout the yard, so this ended up about the way I wanted it to. It's rare that that happens with the weather. Now it is 0 degrees with a windchill of -22 degrees. Winter is certainly making itself known.
I hope everyone has a great, safe, warm Monday!

Desserts today: chocolate pie, chocolate cake, pecan pie, and coconut cream pie.
Hope everyone is staying warm and dry, and also hope you enjoy your lunch.
