Heading for the mid 50's today.  Another beautiful sunny day here in good ol' CA.

Brian, you can have the tin boots back.  "You-know-who" didn't even notice that you ate all the chocolate cake.

Don't worry, Brian.  Absolutely nobody here is going to mention that you made a pig of yourself yesterday with the chocolate cake.  Evil [}:)]

You know - I remember reading one time that milk should always be pasteurized.  I disagree.  I fell in a vat of milk one time and it went way past-my-eyes and I wasn't a bit amused!  Angry [:(!]

Well, we got 3 inches of snow and it is now 8 below.  But next to western NE, Kansas, OK and parts of Texas (some of my old stomping grounds - no, no - tiptoeing grounds - ladies shouldn't stomp!) I think we made out like bandits!

I am going to drag my muffler and muffs with me over by the fire.  I donated my hammock in absentia - but to a good cause, so the rug looks pretty inviting.

....M C.....You should be ok in this region the rest of the week....We did get an overnight {rare}, bit of snow. But just 1", so nothing to be concerned about.  To be dry and sunny to partly sunny the rest of the week.  Believe temps should be mid to upper 30's for high's so not to worry.

Walt....Is that the location where if driving along on the {pretty new}, 3 lane I-65 south and the railroad would be located off to the right and right before the routes start the climb up that long grade.....?  Believe you and I have discussed that location before.

Well, all I gots to say is that was one huge piece.  But that's okay, nobody else wanted any chocolate cake anyway (yeah, right!)

Mount Edgecumbe is on Kruzov Island, which is located just west of Sitka, which is south of Juneau.

Very cool.  Haven't visited that part of Alaska yet- maybe someday.  I've been up to Anchorage, Seward, Valdez, and McKinley though, several times back in my single days.  Rode the Alaska RR to McKinley.

Didn't I see you wandering off with the other half of that cake?Evil [}:)]

I too, have been to Alaska, and that was in September of 2003. I went on a Holland-America cruise tour with two of my sisters, their husbands and a nephew of mine. Our cruise tour included trips on both the Alaska Railroad and the narrow gauge White Pass & Yukon Route. The avatar that I am presently using is from the White Pass itself.

I think everyone should make a trip to Alaska at least once in their lifetime, and I also think it would be neat if a bunch of us forum members were to go on such a trip like this together. That would entail a lot of planning, not to mention waiting a few years just to pull such a venture off.

Quentin, you're in the same general area; but this is about 15 miles or so north of the "Hill".  Your general description matches quite closely otherwise.

Some years ago there was an accident on the interstate near here involving a truck carrying produce.  They decided that since it was "natural" they'd just leave all of the produce there.  That decision was reversed when car-animal accidents skyrocketed at that spot, due to the animals arriving for the feast.....

Cold, cold, cold.  Three degrees right now, and with clear skies, it's dropping like a rock.

Nice, warm, comfort food.....

Joe,

You've got the favor big time; all of our Thoughts and Prayers will be directed that way!

(along with others,to other people also.)

Well, even though this has not been a Good derailment, (like any are) at least this one didn't take out a bridge crossing a river like the last one did!! (1990 or so)

Okay, comfort food it is tonight:  beef stew w/cornbread, open-face roast beef sandwiches w/mashed taters and beef gravy, and tenderized angus steak w/sauteed mushrooms & onions.

And guys, no need to fight over the chocolate cake.  REMEMBER:  I make several in advance, and freeze them, so there are about 4 more that have been thawing all afternoon.  As a matter of fact, I'm getting ready to frost/ice them now.  No, these didn't get frosted before I froze them.

Everyone have a terrific evening, stay warm, and dry.  Cannonball, get well soon, and mudchicken, have a safe journey to Indiana.  And Joe, will add your request to my prayer list.

......M C:

Right now the extended weather forecast for this area is showing:

Friday...31 and 22 temp. with a few snow showers...{doesn't sound real serious}

Saturday....32 and 25 temp. with partly cloudy conditions...

Overall it doesn't seem to indicate any massive system to pass thru....

That 1" of overnight snow we recieved  has not been much of a problem with most roads back to bare conditions now.  Even had some sunshine this afternoon.

Update 1-17:  MC....Sunday  35  and 29 temp and forecast simply, Cloudy.

....Walt, that sounds like the derailment is not too far removed from south Louisville....That propane fuel is really a dangerous bomb when fire gets to it in a situation like that.

Some years ago a propane tanker {rail}, blew up out on the Sante Fe RR near Kingman, Az. from all accounts produced an extreme massive explosion.

Morning all!  It's 'Egg Wednesday' here in the DDCS.  I've got a truck load of eggs that are fresh from the farm and lots of hot skillets.  I'll try to make 'em however you want!  We've also got corned beef hash (DIBS if nobody else wants it!), hashbrowns, bacon, turkey bacon, sausage links and patties, and fresh fruit.  We've also gotten topped off with fresh OJ, AJ, TJ and some really good coffee.  I've made a couple trays of scrambled eggs, some sunny-side up, and some 'flat'.  There's also several trays of meat and sides warm and on the bar for your leisure!  BTW...Ms. Mook, I have a present for you but you'll have to wait to open it!

Switch8frg I hope all is well.  I'll toss an extra prayer your way.
