My condolences to those families that lost a loved one.  Life is so precious and short.  Anyone mind if I take one of the chairs next to the fire?  I could use some warmth today.

Good Friday morning to one and all!  Mookie, glad to see you DID make it in this morning!!  Things have settled down here, and looks like the sun is peeking out at us.

Ray, thanks for making the coffee, juice and breakfast.  Think this lady will take a large mug of coffee, along with a couple of sausages, and leave it at that this morning.  Trying to be good, on watching what I eat, that isn't good for me.  (Boy, trying to get your cholesterol down to "normal" is a bummer).  I can remember, growing up, everything was fried in lard or Crisco oil, and no one had any of these problems, we all have to face today.Sad [:(]  Oh well, I guess that just "modern progress" , right?

Mookie, sure did enjoy our "visit" yesterday, even if it was only by phone!!

Joe, yeah, even with the sun shining, we're getting the wind, and it's to pick up today, too, if I remember correctly.  Better find me some rocks to put in my pockets, cause I need to make a grocery run this morning.

Everyone take care, and have a great and safe day!

Good morning everyone. I've got the coffee brewing and I've made a fresh batch of orange juice. The hot chocolate, for those who want it, is out on the counter. Breakfast this morning will consist of; bacon, pork sausage links, scrambled eggs & ham slices, blueberry pancakes, french toast, and banana nut muffins.Chef [C=:-)]

Currently, we have 23 degrees here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and the wind chill leaves us at 6 degrees above 0. We have 11 inches of snow on the ground, and I think there will be more coming before 6:00 PM. All the schools here and virtually everyone else shut down yesterday. I work for Wendy's and we closed the store at 2:00 PM yesterday. Unless my supervisors should call me and tell me to stay home, I will brave the elements and try to get myself to work later this morning. From what the man at KELO AM is saying, I think we missed the worst of this snow storm, others got a lot heavier amounts of snow in the last 24 hours. The wind is supposed to be blowing at gusts of up to 40 mph.

<~> -   unh.....(shovel) (shovel).....grunt...(shovel)....groan...... (shovel) (shovel)......push....

bb  bb  there - got all the snow pushed in that I promised Mutt.  Hope he enjoys it before it melts.  Should put a snow fence around it - being that close to the fireplace, it won't last long.  FLOOD ALERT!

I have my list of people to thank for this.....Looking for the Denver Chicken, since it is all coming from his area, our chancellor for calling a snow day - a very rare occurrance - Houston Ed for Beth's pictures - which just makes me want to send him a whole front and back yard of this stuff, CW for checking on me - (the window is a 2nd story window that I couldn't see out - it's a north window and it was full of snow...) and, of course, The Driver for making sure I didn't have to spend more than one day pacing a hole in the rug!

Brian, Quentin, Tree, Joe - you may get all of this and more...it was pretty hard on southwestern Iowa.....

Willy - can't say he didn't warn us....

I am exhausted - so will take my Oscar and give my mouf a rest! (speaking of rest - they are going to finally plant that lady that has been dominating the news for about the last 6 months.  Too bad there isn't some real news to cover!) (grumble, grumble!)

It's 4 AM, it's 27 degrees outside.  And it's raining.  I just stepped (carefully) outside and could hear some one spinning their tires. My workplace has already declared a 2 hour delay in opening this AM, and I suspect that'll be all day now.  Heck of a way to get a three day weekend - can't even go galavanting around!

Those shots are GORGEOUS.

What a difference a couple of hours make, the barometer is rising like a rocket in boost phase and the wind is now howling out of the west.  I recorded a gust of 26.2 MPH about 20 minutes ago, which is the highest I've captured so far on my anemometer.  In this neighborhood full of mature trees and two-story houses, that's TRUCKING.  At least the snow quit for the time being...

Brian, we don't have an anemometer, but we've been getting Gusts 35-40+ this afternoon; and in the last several hours, we've dropped (temp) from around 60,

to about 42.

We got a light dusting of snow, but that's quit for the moment.  The bad news is that the wind is out of the east - never a good thing - and there is wintry mix and rain headed this way.  With a current temp of 22 degrees, rain is definitely a bad thing.  Have to sit back and hope I can get out of the driveway in the morning.

Hope we don't end up with a mess - two ice storms is enough.

You are going to keep getting rain and storms this afternoon and evening, but your severe threat doesn't look huge. All of that rain and cloudcover you're experiencing now has probably cut back instability and will probably limit the severe threat. However, the Storm Prediction Center has you on the border between a moderate and slight risk for severe storms, so keep an eye to the sky and a radio or TV handy just in case.

Willy, Thanks for the info., that seems to be pretty much what our forecasters are saying.

Our TV is on most of the day so we can hear things like that, but as of Several Years ago,

an NWS Weather Alert Radio is on  24/7/365 (6) in this household!!

Time for supper...Dinner [dinner]

Pressure in millibars = 33.8639 X Pressure in inches of mercury. I tried it with our pressure in Omaha and my answer was one millibar off, so not too bad.

Pressure in inches of mercury = 0.0295300 X Pressure in millibars. For this one, it was right on the nose.

(33.8639)(28.91) = 979.00 mb. The low center must be almost directly over you because that is pretty darn low.

(0.0295300)(979.00) = 28.91" - There you are back at inches of mercury.

Gee, Joe, that sounds like a nice idea!  So, for our supper menu tonight, we will have:

burgers, hot dogs and fries.

Joe, and everyone else:  I did talk with the cat this afternoon.  Driver was out working the snow blower for the second time today.  Mookie wasn't sure exactly how much snow they had, but she couldn't see out the window, for the amount of snow in front of it.  She said the University was closed first today, then they closed the public schools. Did say she'll see us all in the morning.

I got home from work within the last hour, and the weather conditions here are not very good. At 2:00 this afternoon we decided to close the store at Wendy's and head for home. I took an order of two cheese burgers, a medium coke and a medium vanilla Frosty home with me, and I just had a late lunch. Burp!! We have a temperature of 24 degrees and the wind is blowing out of the Northeast at gusts of up to 39 mph. I had a few drifts of snow almost knee-deep to have to wade through on the way home from work. It feels good to be home, in my warm, cozy little house.

Me thinks it would be nice if we could purchase, borrow or steal a couple Frosty machines from Wendy's and install them in the Diner. Then we could have both chocolate & vanilla Frostys for dessert after our meals. I'll have to work on that!Chef [C=:-)]

The low pressure center has a pressure of 980 mb. That's characteristic of a category 1 hurricane.

Most totals in Omaha are 8 to 14 inches. Here at home, it looks like 9 or 10 inches. It's very difficult to tell with all of the blowing and drifting going on (Omaha/Eppley had a wind gust of 58 mph), but I think I found a relatively sheltered area. Eppley only reported 6 inches, which figures since they are the offical reporting station, thus what they measure is the official storm total. It's too bad when you consider that almost all other measurements have been at least 2 inches greater than that.

This was a very nice surprise and now I'm finally ready for spring.
