I'm up here in Minneapolis for a dinner meeting last night and a half day meeting today...I am gonna get the heck out of town before (I hope!) the snow starts this afternoon.  Keep your fingers crossed for me folks.

Good Wednesday morning to all.  Ed, so very sorry about the kitty.

Coffee is ready, and juice is freshly made.  Hot tea, hot cider, and hot chocolate are available this morning.

On the breakfast bar you will find:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits and sausage gravy, oatmeal (got some cinnamon & spice and maple brown sugar available this morning) and toast, bagels and bear claws.

Everyone have a great day, and hope all our friends who are under the weather, are beginning to feel better.

Hmm, where are Joe and Mookie this morning?!?!?!

Having had to put down two cats of mine last year I know that it's not easy!  One was 12 years old and one was 16.  The one I'm really dreading is my 21 year old black cat, Ace.  I'm gonna be pretty upset when she passes on...

Enough morbid thoughts this early!  Today I'm celebrating 1 year with my girlfriend.  It's a step in a long life together as I'm pretty sure I'm gonna pop the question to her within about a month!  I'll snag some OJ and a donut then scoot to work for a couple hours.

Thanks for the blanket Joe. I don't think I need to steal Mookie's spot. I am comfortable where I am.

CW, thanks for the fries and tea.

wow, I been here all day sleeping? now it's nightime? My husband probably misses me by now. I'll just call him. I feel so sludgy I can't walk straight, let alone think.

Well durn.

Took it to the vet to have the foot cleaned and see what, if anything could be done repair wise.

Turns out gangrene had already set in.

Choices were...amputation up to the elbow, for $700.

Then three days in the IC unit, at $100 a day, and no promise it would survive.

Or do nothing and, clean and bandage the wound, and watch it slowly die in a lot of pain.

Vet didn't think it would survive, even with all that, said the infection had spread...

So I couldn't see it suffering any more, and had it put down.

Cruddy thing was it was purring the whole time the vet was digging in the wound.

Oh well, at least it got to eat a good meal, and have an easy way out.

Bummed out evening here.

Now I have to explain to a 7 year old why....

Ed,

Thanks for the info.  All 4 GP38-2's (3801, 3803, 3804, and 3805) I've seen on the WSOR thus far have made that sound consistently.  It sure does sound funny when there's 2 or 3 of them MU'd together.

Willy, I'm with you.  I'm not a fan of snakes, either!

Dan,

You are hearing the spitter valve...when the air is compressed by the air compressor, it heats up...and creates condensation in the air reservoir, which collects at one end...notice how all the air tanks on locomotives are angled down slightly at one end?

The water collects there, and the spitter valve is triggered when a set amount of water collects...some locomotives use an pressure sensitive valve too...automatically vents the  condensation no matter how much water is present.

Depending on the make and model, it can cycle, with a few minutes between blow downs...or seem to run almost all the time, with intermittent "spits" .

If you have an air compressor at home, it also has a manual condensation valve, on the bottom, used to drain the water out of your air tank.

CW...the one with the glasses is spoiled already...they all are come to think of it...but then again, that's my "job" in the first place, right?

Let's see, we are up to three dogs, three cats, two snakes, and I cant count how many fish...all we need now is a bird to start a zoo.

This is the last stray we ended up with...a Luicent Texas Rat snake...not an albino, but a snake with no pigment in its scales.

His eyes are blue, and he is rather rare...consider that a white snake at night would show up against the dark ground, most of the time these guys end up as owl food!

Good afternoon all- hope everyone who is sick recovers soon, I'm finally on the mend after seeing my doctor yesterday; she put me on a new antibiotic that seems to be doing the job quite well.  I almost feel normal today!

Ed- Awwwww!  Even Joanie would think that she's cute, and she's allergic to cats.

One large bowl of chili with lots of crackers and a grilled cheese sandwich, please!Dinner [dinner]

Ed, she is a cutie pie!!  And I know she'll be "spoiled" in your household!!  Congrats on the new addition!!

Joe, chili andfries are ready for you.  Wasn't sure if spokyone Bob would make it back, so I did make chili this afternoon.

There are six large Crock Pots with chili on the front counter.  Also have grilled cheese sandwiches and PB&J sandwiches, so you all have your pick of sandwiches.  Also got fries ready.

Duff, you take take of that cold, and get plenty of rest.  Take all the fries you want, okay?

Ed that's a cute little one!  I hope she recovers.  We had a three legged cat in the neighborhood that we called Tripod but then she disappeared one day.

Anyone know what a rapid, ticking-type sound would be coming from a GP38-2?  It almost sounds like 'rickita-tickita-tickita-tickita' and repeats.  I heard that today on a consist of WSOR engines near Utica, WI.  The sound didn't seem to be engine RPM related.

Spokyone - From our ice storm we learned that generators are gold, especially when the outage gets into the third or fourth day, with no end in sight.

Ed - You're just a softy....

Chili and fries does sound good.  Fill 'er up!

Crunch time at work this week - have a task that requires I visit around 40 locations by COB Wednesday, hoping that I can get to the equipment at each.  Since it won't work after tomorrow unless I touch it, I'm sure I'll be getting calls from a bunch of folks on Thursday....

Off to a meeting.  I'd rather not go, but obligations are obligations.

Ugh, the last few days I have been under the weather. I apparently caught a cold from somewhere last week, and it’s been making me feel really sludgy lately, so I haven’t been around much.

I think I will just take some fries, and some tea, keep the tea coming.

Now to fall asleep in the corner~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~>

CW, I have a friend who takes medication to keep his cholesterol level down.  What's interesting is that he could keep his cholesterol down to a reasonable level by watching what he eats, but he says that he prefers to take the medication so that he can eat whatever he wants to eat.  Captain [4:-)]

Hello all!  Back from Produce.  All we had today were bags of spinach, 5 # bags of taters, and heads of lettuce.  Looks like slim pickins' lately.  Guess with all the extreme cold around the country, particularly in California and Florida, good produce is hard to find.

On the warmer bar you will find:  hot open face roast beef sandwiches w/mashed taters and beef gravy, whole kernal corn and green beans and hot cornbread fresh from the oven.  I didn't thicken the gravy with flour this time.  That way, I think it's all right for me to have a little bit of gravy on my taters.

Joe, glad your eye is getting better.  And Spokyone Bob, glad everyone is all right, and you all now have power back.  If you have any chili left, would you like to bring some in for supper tonight?  I'm one of these who can eat chili, even in the hottest August heat.

Hello everyone. The ice storm on Saturday left our Mercer County without power. On Sunday we had a shelter set up at the Baptist Church in Joy. Thanks to the volunteer firefighters who found gasoline generators and fuel to provide power for heat, lights and refridgerators. With food from our own fridges and the school, we fed good hot meals to over 100 people until the power came back on early today for most folks. Some folks slept on cots provided by Red Cross. We had a chance to meet people who do not attend church. The sheriff department transported people with special needs to centers with proper facilities.
A little horn tooting here. Folks want me to enter the next Chili Cookoff. The fact that I had enough ingredients for six batches was a blessing in itself.
I will check back to see what is on the menu for tonight. Pizza would hit the spot.
