Beginning to wonder if I should have sold the rowboat.  Still got the sailboat, though.

It's not that it's raining hard, it's just raining constantly, and looks to do so for a while yet.

Would like a break tomorrow afternoon, when the interment of a good friend's father is scheduled...

Fire meeting tonight, and still plenty of house cleaning to do.  Back to work.

When I was but a wee lassie - I had a white muff for my hands in winter.  See from your pix that you have one, too.  Be sure to use it for warmth and maybe a little sympathy?  Shy

The Wiki article did say the were a pest.

Got Mom's iiterary last night for her visit to the north country.  A few days earlier than anticicpated, and the house isn't even close to "mom-ready" yet.  Gotta hustle, plus everything else I've got going on!

T68:  If we are going to talk "trees"....

It is across the street and up one house.  It had babies on our side of the street.  Landlord gave them a new home in the garbage.  It is a nice looking tree, gives great shade and should be kept under glass at all times.  If you have allergies - this one will do you in.

BOC - our cottonwoods are flying right now, too.  Means the bluegill are spawning - well, normally.  I wonder if it hasn't been too cold to do much of anything in water.

Moo.....

I never worried about the meaning of "ailanthus," nor thought of its origin. I knew that they stank if you bruised them, and that they exuded a gummy sap-- and we called them "varnish trees." I think that it is called "tree of heaven" because it will grow almost anywhere--and they can fill a vacant lot with their offspring. When I was young, we had two chinaberry trees and one varnish tree in our backyard; the chinaberry trees (don't try to eat the berries; they taste bad) were good for climbing, but we did not even think of climbing the varnish tree. It was good for holding one end of a hammock (which came when one of my brothers was discharged from the Navy) up, but that was about all it was good for. Was it ever fun trying to get into the hammock until I learned how!

We also had a huge mulberry tree (its berries are edible), which had to be cut down when the power company ran a 220 volt line to the house at the time my mother bought an electric stove for the kitchen. My older brothers taught me how to run a crosscut saw when they sawed the trunk up so we could burn it for heat. The new stove was much better than the kerosene stove she had used for many years.

Mookie

Our neighbors have a Tree of Heaven (it stinks) and it really bothers my eyes and nose when it leafs out and again when it blooms.

I'd never heard of the "tree of heaven" so I looked it up.  The Chinese name for it translates literally as "foul smelling tree..."

Well, the breakfast bar is up in time for Brunch, anyhow...

Nice and sunny today, but another cool start, just like BC.

The forecast for the weekend was predictable.  Despite early prognostications of half decent weather, it appears that our antique fire truck muster this coming Saturday (a decidedly outside event) will again be plagued by cool temps and rain.  For the third year running...

But I still have to get stuff ready for it.  Off to the tasks at hand.

Having some light work done at KW, so drug out the laptop......

Exhausts - With all the new emissions articles under the trucks nowadays, I can roll past a sign saying "no Jake brake" with my Jakes on full, and nobody would notice.......

I have also made the mistake one night of parking next to a guy that had eight inch straight pipes, and he ran the truck all night long.  Hard to get sleep that night.....

Dad had a -pre 68 John Deere 4020 Diesel with a rain cap on the muffler, the bushing was worn just enough that the rain cap would rattle at low idle.  Always liked the sound of that 414 cubic inch straight six under a heavy load in the field.......

Don't see many rain caps on semis anymore, they still make them for straight cut and mitered stacks, on the right truck and balanced right, they look great.....

Mud - I bet even the slow guys ran really fast, go for the restart.....

My Reader's D version of a blob for today:  Spring house cleaning....Will be going to hospital for a rest here shortly.  5 closets - 4 are completely cleaned now.  1 to go.  (3rd time thru the last one!)

For all you single men and domestic gods - I have 2 feather pillows to sleep on - one goes in queen pillowcase really snazzy - 2nd one - well try stuffing what seems like about 50 pounds of feathers into a regular size pillowcase.  SoapBox

Going to tackle the kitchen cupboards after the rest in the hospital!  Smile, Wink & Grin  Guess you really don't get rest in a hospital, do you.....  maybe I will just go curl up in a chair and practice my engineer napping!

Downsizing, don'tchaknow....

Hi 8NSand - long time no see here.  Come back and visit again!
