Ya know, every now and then we go to a motor vehicle accident that makes you wish you'd seen it happen - it was probably as good as anything Hollywood turns out.  Unfortunately, there's usually a bad outcome for someone.

Had one of those tonight.

Arrived in the area of the reported accident, found some skid marks, but no car.  The skid marks indicated that a vehicle had narrowly missed a power pole.

Further investigation of the tire tracks through some tall grass led us to the car, well concealed in a small copse of small trees.

They apparently "flew" it in, as the tracks in the tall grass disappeared, and there was no damage to the trees between the last tracks on the ground and where the vehicle was found.

The tracks and skid marks indicate they went off the road on a slight curve, overcorrected, crossed the road, a driveway, the field of tall grass, went airborne after hitting a high spot, and ended up in the trees - a distance of 200-300 yards.

By the time we arrived, all three occupants were gone - taken to the hospital by persons unknown.

We're figuring that speed was most likely a factor, especially considering the reported ages of the occupants - around 20.

That/s an interesting acount, Larry. It made me think of where I lived for about nine years as I was growing up--at the intersection of a US highway which made a right angle turn, a state highway (now a county road), and an alley. Right over the highway, there was a blinking yellow light, and there was another blinking yellow light for northbound traffic (it was coming into town) at eye level, and there were sufficent signs that indicated that the highway made a right angle turn. Our house was about a hundred feet from the intersection, with the alley between it and a house next door (I made many round trips across that alley, first with an empty bucket and then back with the bucket full of water, which I had pumped up). There was a privet hedge between our front yard and the alley.

I do not remember just how many mishaps occurred while we lived there, but some stand out. One, which I have mentioned on a thread or two, occurred the evening after one of my brothers trimmed the hedge drastically--and a Greyhound bus started up the alley because the driver was looking for a tall hedge to indicate that he needed to turn. Another evening, as we were eating supper, we heard a noise out front, went out, and found that a car that had gone through the hedge was stopped just short of our front porch.

Three others came about during night hours. One was quite simple: a car came up the alley and stopped in a wire fence. Another was not so simple, at all: a big (for back then) rig with a load of coffee, instead of turning right turned left and landed in the ditch in front of the house; the driver said the brakes locked. The third one had the possibility of being the worst of all: a rig with tankload of gasoline turned turtle after making the lefthand turn; there was no fire, but all of the gasoline drained out.

I do not remember that anyone was hurt seriously at any time, though.

Tree - kids were very lucky.  Sometimes no one "find" the car until way past too late - as you know.

Joe - maybe crane could move interloper?  At least take out one car for a pass-thru?

Kalmbach - I renewed - now will you take down my yellow banner?

Ms Mook - My aunt still tells the story about how our Sheltie mix kept her company while she was nursing a knee problem.  We were visiting the cottage and brought the dog along, as we often did.  The aunt was stuck at the cottage while everyone else went somewhere, and Keiko (the dog) provided some TLC.

Beautiful day here in the north country - sunny, warm.  Quite the change after the past week plus of cool and rainy.

Getting the house whipped into shape and "mom ready."   But there's still more to do.  Back to work!

Have had several private inquiries about my statement of going to the hospital:  Not true.  I just felt so rough after spring cleaning that a hospital bed with someone attending me for about 12 hours (you know - bring food, bed pan, more food, liquid, fluff pillow)  but I got the feeling that if I showed up there for a little R & R they would laugh and lock the door.  Plus I couldn't afford the bill.  So I crawled off to bed and happily - I recovered to do some more cleaning.  In the future....

Since we can't have pets any more - I really miss the sad eyes and an occasional licking of hand - all sympathy because you don't feel good and besides it is feeding time.

So when you read my "blobs" just know that you should never take them too seriously - just lighten up and know I don't do anything too seriously.  Except naps.  And chocolate cake.  And trains.  And Tonka toys.  And my friends on & off the forum.

Aside to BOC - why was Spring in the sink?  Hinting for drink of water?  Wanting to help with dishwashing?  Or just closer to the can opener?

Good Morning

We are seeing a small taste of sun today...it is forecasting cloudy periods..so it usually means we'll see an hour or two of sun in the morning then it all shuts down and we will not see an iota of it until 5 minutes before the sun goes down...sigh.

Anyhow...I'm going into the train room today to see about cleaning up the poor thing before a layer of dust settles over it and cobwebs start to develop..the hacking and coughing you will hear is me trying to clear the aforesaid room of aid dust and stuff...

Have a great day!!!

Good Sunday morning everyone.  Waking up this morning to a temp of 64 degrees F.  Everything quiet right now, weather wise.  Supposed to get up to about 80, then the rain is supposed to be rolling in later tonight.  They're talking about temps in the 90s later this week.

Joe, thanks for breakfast.  Everything looks real good this a.m.  And the fresh coffee smells/tastes really good this morning.  Rheumatize acting up this morning:  left hand fingers are kind of numb and achy this morning.

Larry, forgive me for forgetting to send condolenses your way for the loss of your friend's father.  Will be remembering them in my thoughts/prayers.

Everyone have a Blessed, good day, take care going to Church, work, railfanning, etc. this morning.  Take care and keep safe and see you all later.

Well, the 3rd annual Antique Fire Apparatus Muster appears to have been a hit - we had over 130 ballots cast for the crowd favorite contest, and that wasn't everyone who wandered through.

Had my die cast fire trucks there.  At least the kids didn't play with them (neither did the adults...)

A highlight of the day was a "drill" using an antique hose cart to lay out the hose, and a Hunneyman "hand tub" to pump water through the hose.

Another highlight was the public viewing of a piece the local historical museum has had in hiding for a while - a Remington Horse Operated Fire Engine.  Two arms extended out so two teams of two horses (or 24 men) could operate it.  You can Google it for more information.

In doing research for that engine, I found a site that asserted that only two copies of this particular design were still in existance.  I sent them a correction, since the one we had out today would make that count three...

Attended the interment of a friend's father today.

He was one of those unsung heroes of WWII - served in the 17th Airborne, and landed on the beach on D-Day.   He was proud of his service and attended many reunions of he unit.

He was also a railroader, albeit in the shops, mostly at Selkirk for the Central.

Had to mail some stuff this AM before heading for Syracuse, got a 1944 penny in change.  Figured it was a sort of a sign, being the day after D-Day and that my friend's father was involved in the landing and all.  So I gave the penny to her.

Headphones  Catfish are jumpin' - nose is a-running....Whistling

Driver found about a 3.5-4 pounder (Bass) at the lake today.  You have to teeter on rocks to get even sorta close to the water, so for a minute I was afraid there was going to be some swimming involved before it made land.  Catch and release, of course!

Did some trains at breakfast - nothing too exciting.  Just reassured that BNSF is still in business.

Have hitch in git-a-long - walking very carefully for a few days.  So far not bothering typing....

Another one wishing mudchicken a Very Happy Birthday!! Happy B-Day Cake

I did send him a personal email this morning, wishing him a Happy Birthday, and thought I'd also post on here, just in case he comes in.

Girls are w/their mom and going to Vacation Bible School this week, so house is fairly quiet; although I did have my niece's son this morning, while she had a doctor's appointment.

Other than the walnut trees in my brother's backyard, and an oak tree, something is definitely making my allergies go beserk lately, even though I'm taking my prescription Claridin every single morning.  Unless I go to my great-nephew's t-ball game in the morning, I'm staying inside, where I can stay cool and hopefully, have an un-stuffed up nose.  Oak trees are definitely one of my allergy triggers.

Everyone have a great afternoon, take care, keep safe and see you all later.
