Not a bad weekend on the railroad - reasonable passenger counts and decent weather.
The folks who did "River and Rail" this weekend (paddle down the river, ride the train back) got a real ride as the Moose River was running pretty high. Not as high as the Mohawk, which went a couple feet over flood stage in some places, but still ripping right along.
I was conductor on Saturday, engineer on Sunday. While I enjoy the job of being engineer, sometimes I miss interacting with the people.
Lots on the agenda this week, including three more days on the railroad. And the fireworks in Old Forge.

We did have a BBQ yesterday at our diner up here..good evening was had by all.
Also got a chance to see a CP/CN meet by the throat...what we call the tracks by our place..both CN and CP tracks come pretty close to each other as they both enter London through the same...erm...pass..as it were...

Major noise in our fair city. Lawyers are having a brawl over who will get this case and then can take on the state, corrections officials, govenor, mayor, politicians, oh - and the inmate who is now back under lock & key - I think.
Weather very comfortable. Train watching early - lots of freight and only 2 coal trains - one coming and one going. Even had a Herzog train go thru with their own box truck chained on a flat car. And what I think might have been a port-a-you know.
Good Saturday morning everyone. Sunny, less humid today, looking for a high in the mid to upper 70s, low 80s, then rain coming in this afternoon. Tonight, supposed to get down to 63, 64 degrees. Time to open windows (if I can find any that can be opened).
Mookie, so sorry to hear about the accident and loss of life. Like the others have said, hope her family gets compensation.

They reviewed his previous and current record (DUI's and Meth) and still saw fit to let him drive others. The corrections department has stopped this "program". (Duh - something about a horse and a barn door) The State will, I am positive, have huge lawsuit(s) from this (which means the taxpayers) and the dipstick will go back to prison at least for awhile. Parole was due in 2014. My edges get crispier with each new detail. Some trusties should not be trusted. Larry's police have the right idea. Yesterday we had a wonderful day filled with buckets and barrels of rain be falling on our'n heads..about 4" worth...a big ol' t'underboomer came through and when it was over two big ol' Maple trees on our crescent were split right down the middle...what a fracking mess here...
Today we get to go to the mall nd pick up some more basic food..and other stuff...then to the trainroom I go...no lair of doom stuff today!!

Saw 2 very faded warbonnet sante fe engines pulling an oil train eastbound today on CSX.We also tried a new restaurant at an old place.They changed to a mexican menu.It wasn't too bad.New employees need to work on a few things but overall it was good.Had some thunderboomers come through.Off to see how Matt is doing with the new trains magazine.

77° and sunny today. Right in my area you would not know we have had so much trouble in the past week. Things seem and sound like a normal day. Yet only a few blocks from me people are cleaning out totally flood ravaged homes.
The unevenness of the recovery is producing a lot of unwanted effects. Traffic reporters say road rage incidents are going way up. The bridge incident mentioned over on the other thread caused major blockades in some areas, and produced some driving maneuvers that will no doubt turn up on Youtube in a couple of days. Fortunately no one has been killed in a traffic accident because of the flood and its' aftermath yet.
The drinking water situation has improved at my place. It no longer has that bad taste or smell, either that, or I have gotten used to it. I prefer to think it is the former. With luck, that 10L container of water I purchased will be my only major bottled water purchase this year.

Inmates around here are chauffered to their appointments, by armed guards. That program sounds like it's going to dissappear soon. Giving a vehicle to an inmate is one thing. Giving a vehicle to an inmate who probably wouldn't be able to get a driver's license is entirely another...
Plenty of problems in the Mohawk Valley - one of our county FD's just sent a team down there to help out due to the flooding. I'm not sure we have anyone who can devote three days to it right now, or we might be sending a team, too.

He was on work release detail where he would be given a van to go pick up work release people and bring them back to prison or take them to work - after city bus hours. He had just delivered an inmate back to prison and left again....no explanation yet. He wasn't seriously hurt. I saw no skid marks.

Been a, how shall we say - "Long" 2 days. Company back home and normal seems to be coming back! Generational difference - fast, live by phone and eat funny food vs slow, don't turn on phone and listen to "you eat veggies?"
Have a thorn in paw: Tue nite 10:30 p - fatal car accident exactly one block from our front door. Lady, 47, coming home from work - 2 blocks from her house WB was t-boned on driver's side by 9-16 passenger (we haven't heard for sure) van EB driven by 35 yr old deranged male doing about 75-90 down our street. Police were called 3 times by drivers just before he hit her. This was between 10:08p and 10:30p
According to two witnesses, he was swerving in both lanes and was in her lane when she saw him. She tried to turn into a driveway to get off the street. She leaves behind a husband, 3 grown children, grandchildren and a job she loved in nursing.
I am not upset. I am burnt to a crisp right around the edges.
No problem on the petunias. Three tenths of an inch rain overnight, and it looks like the circulation is right over the top of us, so it'll keep raining for a while.
CSX derailed between Albany and Utica on the "Chicago Line." There appears to be significant ripple effects due to this Montgomery County incident.

Good afternoon.
Things have settled back to normal in the apartment and in my building. You can still hear a number of unusual sounds of big vehicles moving around outside though. With less overall traffic there is not a lot more noise, it just sounds different. You may have seen over on the Newswire where it is going to be weeks yet before our LRT south line is back in service. There are two neighbourhoods just west of one of the LRT tunnels (Cemetery Hill) that won't have all of their power turned on for days yet.
73° and sunny now. It took a while to get this warm however. Unlike down where BOC lives in Ontario and many of our US readers, Calgary isn't normally bothered by the HHH phenomena. In fact, all of the standing water around here, coupled with our more northerly latitude, means it is taking a lot longer each day to really warm up. This is actually causing the standing water problem to last longer. I sure would love to see a week of +80° days starting at about noon each day. Then we could go from this spring like feeling to actual summer weather.
That's about it for now.

Woke up at 4:50 this morning to pouring rain. We kept hearing rumbles of thunder yesterday evening, but no rain. Finally was able to go back to sleep about 9 a.m., just for about an hour.

Thought I'd pop in here for a change of pace. It's been a while!
Nothing overly exciting to report...but then that's nice too. My hand's all healed up from winter's escapade and the house is still standing despite my best efforts to replace siding/roofing material. Aedan turns 4 on Sunday...and I have 11 days of vacation I'm cashing in starting tomorrow...so that will be nice. May even make a concerted effort to get trackside somewhere.
