Cool  Have two items from the Great State of NE!

One is that we had an actual earthquake!  We don't have very many; usually non-existent.  But this one was in a large county straight north of North Platte (Hooker co for those inclined to look it up)

Very small; no damage. Doubt the Spike even felt it.

AND

Kool-Aid is 85 years young!  Born in Hastings NE!!!!

Happy B-Day

Wonder what they are charging at those Kool-Aid stands today?

Mookie, thanks for that little fact about Kool-Aid!  If I had some in the house, maybe I'd make up some, and if the Water Co. guys were still across the street working on the water pipes, go 'sell' them cups for $.25 per cup.  Wink

The Produce Truck showed up this morning at 8:03!  We got the truck unloaded, then had to wait for my 2 ladies to show up, so we'd have some bags to put the food in:  turnips, tomatoes, spinach, green peppers, tomatoes and watermelons.  That was it for today.  I was back home between 9:20 and 9:30.

Have plenty of leftovers from yesterday:  pork chop abracadbra, grilled chicken quarters for lunch today.

Will be taking requests for supper tonight!!

Going to be heading back to my kitchen, have 1 pot of spinach on the stove, and have another batch to put in the sink, wash and drain, and may just put that mess in a gallon freezer bag and freeze it.

Went up to Dole [V.A.] Hospital for appointments and a little volunteering while hangin' out waiting for appointments.  While up there was treated to a pyrotrchnics show by Mother Nature, and I think we had some rain(?) at least the drits and dust off the car was in puddles in the parting lot ( maybe, about 1.5 inches?). It has been so long since we had any, I thaink that was what they call it in other places. Mischief

Ms Mook - I have a cache of "Mandarin Orange" Kool-Aid in the pantry.  Apparently it's popular out west, but not so much here, so I stocked up last time I was out there.

Thing is, I don't drink as much Kool-Aid as I used to, so it's probably gonna last a while.

Second Kool-Aid story - I worked in a "party store" whilst in high school.  The store had many party supplies, but the stock-in-trade was adult beverages of all kinds.  The local wine "aficionados" would come in and purchase a bottle of the cheapest white wine in the place (69 cents in 1967) and a package of red Kool-Aid, flavor not important (5 cents in 1967).

Voila!  Red wine!

BC - I hope you don't glow brightly enough to keep yourself up at night....  Smile, Wink & Grin

Tree:  Kool-aid was ok, but Nehi Cream Soda was my very favorite!  Nehi Orange was next!!!!

Well, domestic goddess day and I made the following observations:

Hot, humid day - shower would be nice - a/c hasn't come on for awhile and getting a little muggy.  Shower feels really good.  Open shower curtain to get out and a/c is blowing like a nor'easter!

Linen changing day - bed is Queen, but during the nite it becomes a large cot with all kinds of arms and legs in the way.  We have rotation every 30 min.

However when putting on clean sheets - it becomes a double king with 50 yards of sheet to try to put on it.  Be careful of sheet flapping;  there is an overhead fan that has been running 24/7 since May.  It is hard to make a bed with one sheet.

And folding clean sheets is impossible.  Just best to roll them up and hope no one looks in your linen closet!

Mentholatum lids, cof drops, extra battery for nite lite - anything next to the bed - if it comes off or is small, it will always fall on the floor and roll way under the bed.

The one morning you can sleep in until 8 am and they start jackhammering the concrete parking lot right next door @ 7:30 a.m.  Trucks and heavy equipment arrived at 7 am.

One final thought - when people in Colorado, with the beautiful Rockies and wonderful skiing, go on vacation - do they stay home?

Been a l-o-n-g day.  Entertaining, but l-o-n-g.

Moo....

.....That is awesome footage of those two engines plowing thru that much snow...and appearing to have a rather small plow.  When the snow is that deep, I find it difficult to understand why the engines don't try to "lift" at certain spots and derail.

In this particular video, I'd think that must have been snow {dry}, on the light side....Those engines were shoving snow to the point one couldn't see the windshield A few times.

Always liked Nehi, too, especially orange.  Faygo "Redpop" has something to say for it as well...

Another Kool-Aid story.  Whilst a youngster and visiting my aunt's cottage (here in NY - we were on vacation and lived in MI at the time) my sister and I were invited to a neighboring cottage for snacks and "soft drinks."  Since sodapop wasn't something we had on a frequent basis, we were looking forward to the treat.

Turns out our hostess referred to Kool-Aid as a "soft drink."  Not that she was wrong, but we were disappointed...

Good Morning

We are going up to 84F feeling like 93F later on...in the sunshine....

I'm going to be spending the day mostly at the various malls around town as it appears I have shrunk. And, of course, having shrunk, the poor belt is starting to make me look more like a tulip than a person...according to my sisterWhistling

Larry:  Fortunately I was somewhat able to get to sleep last night...no stoplight scenario here...yet....Whistling

Good Wednesday morning all.  Kinda slept in this morning, just couldn't get my eyes open enough to totally wake up.  Guess the extra sleep was needed, though.

We currently have a temp about 73, 74 degrees, have sunshine and temps are going up to 95, 97 degrees for our high today, with an Air Quality Alert.  Think I'll be staying right here in the house, in the A/C.

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the breakfast bar this morning:  BLTs, sausage, eggs, toast from home made bread, that was fresh-from-the oven last night, and watermelon.  Gonna have to see if I can find some cantaloupe anywhere.

Mookie, I hear you loud & clear, on changing sheets on a queen size bed, with a ceiling fan/light going 24/7.  As to folding queen size sheets:  yep, you need another person to hold one end, while you're on the other end, then fold.  Otherwise, it's like you said:  just wad it up and hope no one looks into your linen closet!

Everyone have a good morning, take care, keep as cool as possible, and see you all later this afternoon.

Good Morning Railfans...

Currently 62F heading for the low 90's.  The total of 90+ degree days is now the 5th most in history and we are marching our way up to break the record that is sadly not that old either so it's just getting plain HOT around here.  Not much else to report today...

Well:

100deg weather around here in So Central Kansas. 20% chance of weather-Hopefully!

Things got off to t a loud start, They are using this dry weather to dredge out the lagoons and creek at the Bartlett Arboretum across the creek. They started hauling dirt to the across the creek neighbor's yard with a medium sized Cat Transporter. Small track hoe in the lagoons doing the dredging.

BNSF has a track gang working over on the Transcon seems like they trucked in most of the small machines the other day.  (  probably short on those specialized rail cars?)  Anyway they are doing a lot of whistlin' and noisily moving about. And the trains passing them are running a little faster than a walk, lots of horn action too!

Green fried tomatoes for breakfast and shepard's pot pie for lunch, and no we're of to Conway Springs.  No nap for me today!

Afternoon all.  Currently 94 degrees F. here in Louisville at 3:07 p.m.  It doesn't feel like there is any breeze blowing at all outside.  Very sticky.

Here is the menu for the rest of the afternoon/evening:

1.  Shepherds pie

2.  Country-fried steak w/green beans, corn, cole slaw or garden salad, mashed taters, gravy and your choice of buttermilk biscuits or home baked bread

Dessert:  different kinds of cake, pies cookies, brownies, and ice cream

Everyone have a good afternoon, take care, keep hydrated, as cool as possible, and see you all later.

Good Thursday morning all.  73 degrees here in Louisville this morning, with a nice little breeze. Supposed to get up to about 89, 90 degrees today, with t-showers coming in this afternoon.  Just hope they don't come in before I get back home from walking 2 blocks west to my doctor's office and back home:  have to go for my regular checkup later this morning.  Appointment is at 11:30. If the weather prediction for tomorrow holds up, I'm going to enjoy tomorrow:  a high of 79 degrees!!

Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  And breakfast is on the breakfast/warmer bar.

Not too much going on around here, which is a good thing.  Maybe things will stay quiet today.

Everyone take care, and I'll see you all later on this afternoon.

.....The wonderful thing I witnessed this morning when checking my rain gauge....1 inch of rain overnight and early this morning...!  That's the most I've seen in it for at least a month, or more.

That certainly will help.  It will promote continued growing of some crops, and for me, It will allow my yard to continue to restore, and come back.

And of course it will help the critical water table...Not much, but we're to get more by tomorrow as well.  Lower temps as too.

Morning Railfans!

Currently 63F and heading for 90+.  We average 33 90+ / year and the record is 61 and we set that record only a few years ago. So it looks like we might break the record given we have had 7 of 8 days in Aug above 90 already and the forecast is for more and more and more.  Smoke from Out-of-State FIRES are starting to drift in again today. Hi Ho, Hi Ho, back to work I go...

The new porch roof (over the side entrance door) is feeling it's first drops of rain as I write this.  It's steel roofing, so I'll definitely hear it.

We, too, can use the rain.  A local landscaper is using 5 gallon buckets to help save newly planted trees.  They drill several small holes in the bottom, set the bucket next to the tree, then fill the bucket with water.  Since it leaks out slowly, it soaks in instead of running off.  Apparently it works pretty well.

Not much else going on.
