Well, since no one gave me any ideas for our Sunday Dinner, you all will have to settle for something I spent all afternoon yesterday preparing:

Chicken and dumplin's, w/freshly made garden/tossed salad and dinner rolls. (Sorry about that, mudchicken!)

Joe, we are watching the UK/Mississippi State game.  (You know who we are rooting for!)  They're at half time now, so need to get back into the living room.

Mookie, I hope you find your lost hour (I can't believe I haven't gone back to sleep:  woke up at 5:30, and have going, going, going since:  doing laundry today, and have the last load in the dryer!!!!!)  When the game's over, it'll be time for me to head to my three farms, and see what I need to get done.

Thanks MC for the Glenwood Canyon info. Seems reasonable that the most expensive Interstate construction location would also be the most expensive to repair.

Although it may not be (?) as expensive, the closure of I-40 last October in NC near TN line keeps getting moved farther out  (more money and now at the end of Apr) due to all the rain and snow this winter. The mountain rock formations there are shale with various angles from around 15 degrees above / below horizontal. Water under the shale (almost oil shale grade) makes it very slick and it slides. Presently most traffic diverts north onto I-26 at Asheville and goes to I-81 in Tennessee. I-26 has had slides this winter but slides have not closed the road for any length of time. Truckers really moan over the 50+ mile diversion and the border crossing of NC and TN. The border is at the top of a mountain (sam's gap) with the downgrades from there over 5% northbound and over 3.5% southbound. Needless to say there have been a few runaways even with runaway ramps installed.

Both I-81 and I-40 are major east - west (southwest) truck routes although I-40 about 60 - 70% of I-81 truck traffic. The traffic on I-81 to the intersection of I-40 near Knoxville is now horrific because that portion of I-81 is 2 lane each way. At the intersection of I-81 into I-40 the road becomes 3 lane or more through Knoxville (4 lane). All that traffic and its potential growth in the future has gotten many in east Tennessee to push harder for the NS Cresent corridor work. However the Knoxville ( from bulls' Gap) - Bristol segment will be a nightmare for NS (SOU) to expand since the route has street running, very tight ROWs, and curves 2 -4 degrees.

Note: There are shale mountains all over western NC which makes roads there very unstable after winters with a lot of freeze/thaw, rain, or snow melt.  When I-26 initially under construction south of Asheville remanants of a hurricane came over those mountains. The graded but not paved portion of I-26 several miles to the east of SOU - Saluda grade washed out completely. With another attempt to build and washout it took over 10+ years to complete  a 10 - 15 mile section of I-26. Money and maybe as expensive as I-70? a whole other story.

I-40 is a zoo to start with, and I know I-81 through VA is phenomenonally busy, so I can image what mixing them up is doing.  I hate hitting the joint I-81/I-78 section just north/east of Harrisburg at high traffic periods.  Three lanes wide at a virtual standstill...

Chicken and dumplings sounds just fine CW.  For an appetizer, some may want a small helping of that chili I have brewing in the crock pot right now.

AZ and warm sounds so nice.  Thank you!  It is 43 right now and in December, that would be a heatwave.  But it is cloudy, damp and just plain bone-chilling.  Brrr.

Joe - found my hour!  Took the blanket with me trackside.  That was a great hour, too!

I trust no one was late for church, Sunday School, or Bible study this morning. We had the usual people at our Bible study this morning.

Mookie, if you had taken my advice and eased into the stupid time zone ten minutes a day, you might not have lost the hour.Smile I'm glad you found it.

Our radio sensitive clock did behave last night; for the first few years we had it I had to take it in hand and tell it what time zone to show when we moved to observing New Orleans time and when we moved back to observing Denver time.

Good Monday morning, all.  Going to be another cool, cloudy day around here.  We currently have 43 degrees, going for a high of 50 to 52 today.

Coffee, juices, and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go, including hot water for our hot tea drinkers.  Mookie, here's your coffee mug!

On the warmer/serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, bacon ,sausage, scrambled eggs, toast and jellies, including my favorite, grape.

On a very sad note, we lost a very good actor last night:  Peter Graves, from the series Mission Impossible and the movies Airplane, Airplane 11.  Who, among us, remember who his famous brother is?  Aparantly, he suffered a heart attack, just a few days shy of his 84th birthday.

Everyone enjoy your morning, and take care.  I have regularly scheduled dr. appt. this morning, with our GP.  Sure hope I haven't gained any weight; although, with both braces on, who can tell?  My appointment is at 10, but I'm thinking about going over and be there when they open, maybe a little bit before 9:00, so I can hopefully get home earlier.  Do not feel like sitting in the waiting room for over an hour, then about 45 minutes in the exam room.

That would be James Garner of Gunsmoke fame, correct?

I wrote too soon: some time after I sent this, the clock went back to Denver time--and it changed itself in the night to again show New Orleans time (local mean sun time, that is). The clock does have a second hand, which seems to be true when compared with WWV, which I use when setting my watch.

We did have snow from about noon Saturday up into the evening, but in the valley none stuck to pavement. I missed seeing the report as tohow much fell in the mountains.

Just a silly question.....Does your clock have a setting for the time zones.....Surely it does.  Sometimes when one changes the battery, etc., you must reset the time zone.

Yes, it does, and it has to be reset any time the power is interrupted. However, if the power is not interrupted, the clock should perform properly. Perhaps this clock does not like the idea of losing an hour in the spring and gaining an hour in the fall (we certainly don't like the idea) and dithers around for a day or so..

Well, I made it back from the doctor's office.  I did like I said, and went on in early. Didn't to a lick of good:  it was still about 10:30, when I was called back.  Even told the doctor about a problem I've been having.  When I sit at the computer, I have to hold my head up higher, and I've been having some aches/pain in the bottom back of my head, just above the neck.  What did he say?  "Any other problems?"  Replied, that I'm having trouble with my nose being stuffed up a lot, and sneezing like crazy. Said I didn't know if it was due to sinuses or my nasal allergies kicking in early.  His response?  Nada, nothing, zilch.  Just set me up for another  appointment for June 14th.  Disapprove

Anyway, here's this afternoon/evening's menu:

1.  Leftover chicken & dumplin's

2.  Roast, taters & carrots w/beef gravy, green beans, corn, and tossed/garden salad and dinner rolls.

Everyone have a good afternoon, stay warm, and take care.

Losing an hour of sleep has never really bothered me. Maybe it's just because I'm still young and vibrant! haha. It probably has more to do with the fact that my sleep patterns are already messed up with school and work all the time.

Speaking of school, spring break is over. However, I think the last quarter will go by very quickly and it will be summer vacation before I know it. We're planning a vacation to Arizona for this summer, so we'll see how that goes.

Could be more snow here on Friday Night and Saturday (just in time for the first day of spring -- I love irony).

Toms, thanks.  I know it's not true, but sometimes, I feel as if no one reads any of my posts.  And, yes, it does get tiresome, when you tell the doctor what problems you are having, and he/she just looks at you like you're imagining things, or just plain crazy.  (Makes me want to give them a kick in the rear!!)

The warmer/serving station is now replenished and restocked for supper tonight.  Everyone enjoy, have a good evening, staying warm and take care.

Yep---that is true---sometimes I wonder if some of the dang doctors even listen to their patients or are just listening to their own brain noise. My favourite? I had a doctor who weighed twice my weight--and I'm no petit little one here! lol!--telling me about weight control. I ran into him later at a Mickey Dees having 3 quarter pounders and a shake----------things that make me go----mmmmmm I wonder mmmmConfused

Welp. got the bloodwork done and then rushed across the street to Tim Hortons and got a HUGE cup of coffee!!Approve Before that I was a grouchGrumpy reason? 12 hour fast with nothing ---not even a weakened tea---not even coffee water!ConfusedWhistling

Good Tuesday morning.  Looks like a very sloooow night in here last night.  We have partly cloudy skies, with a current temp  of 46 degrees, going for a high in the uppers 50s to 60 degrees today, with nice sunshine.

Coffee, juices, and our other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.

On the warmer/serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, bacon, eggs, sausage, oatmeal, rice, toast.

Everyone have a very good morning, and I'll see you all after I get through with Tuesday Produce.

Oops - sorry CW - almost stepped on your foot.

Was smiling while I was reading your doctor comments.  We had a doctor that we called "Dr Dummy" - he was a walking pharmacy dispenser. Throw enough prescriptions at you and something would help.  Had to really think when we were asked for our attending physicians name so Dr Dummy didn't come out.

Seems like we found the sun, warm weather, and also loads of trains.  On the way in to work the other day I heard the shortest road train axle count in about two weeks: 638 axles (3 six-axle motors and 155 cars).  CN's been busy lately.

Aedan is now crawling and attempting to pull himself up on things to stand.  Standing doesn't last long, but the crawling is cute.  Supposed to be in the upper 50s/low 60s today and a little warmer than that for Weds and Thurs.  What a welcome relief from the snow...yes that's from someone who enjoys snow too.
