Good morning, and thanks for the brunch. 60 and bright sunshine in Caroina at present. It is supposed to make it to 64 today, and I thinks it's gonna make it. I see where UP dumped a coal train last night and the story on that should be interesting. Everyone take care,
Tom

cherokee womanMookie, here's your coffee mug, and I've got our rockers situated so we can watch the trains go by this morning. Since it's getting liht earlier, we can see them a bit better as they're going by

grampaw pettibone Good evening. CW, a tank top is a bit out of place just yet, but people are curious creatures. I remember going to a drugstore a few years ago when we had a fair amount of snow and seeing a woman all bundled up in overcoat, muffler and gloves, and BAREFOOT! You never can tell with some folk. 42 and clear right now. Everyone take care

You must be talking about the "Relocated" persons from Eastern Kentucky and/or West Virginia that are commenly known as "Hillbillies"! Watch it, I resemble that remark!!

Quentin, hopefully We CAN say good bye to that White stuff for the season! The Weather People here have said that this was/has been the 4th snowiest Feb. since they've been keeping records. (for our area) I can certainly remember 2 of them, 1978 and 1994. Now with the melting and "run off" they/we are very worried about flooding; and this week is supposed to be a "rain Event" around here!
Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!
Afternoon all. Wow, it's been a busy morning around home this morning. Both Walt and I have been on and off the phone, with important phone calls. He got one call from Frankfort, on his retirement: they are to call back again some time today. And I've been on the phone with other important issue calls.
Here is the menu for the rest of today:
1. Burgers, fries and tossed salad
2. Meat loaf w/mashed taters & beef gravy, green beans, corn, and tossed salad
Everyone enjoy, and you all have good afternoon, and take care.
Afternoon all.
And what a beautiful afternoon it is! Were sitting right at 50*here in western Indiana. The birds are signing, and eating from the feeder outside my bedroom window.
On the downside of things, I think our toilet is leaking. There is a big wet spot just to the right of it. Also, just a few moments ago we took our late dog Rex’s kennel down. Kina sad to have to do that.
Have a good evening all.
Justin

locomuttQuentin, hopefully We CAN say good bye to that White stuff for the season!
....Just a few piles of the stuff left Walt....55 plus degrees here this afternoon. Actually repaired a spot in our yard today where the snowplow pushed snow off the driveway and gouged into the sod a bit....Put down grass seed, and then moved the sliced sod back in place and tamped it down a bit....Hope to have it {or do it my self}, rolled again this season. That will take care of any unevenness.
Yea, Walt....it sure can snow some more, but I'm not too concerned about that...We've had a bit over our avg. this season and all this week it's to be in the 50's so.....so far, so good. And Just think....We see an hour more of daylight in the evening come Sunday.
Quentin
It's raining here. Bye Bye snow....
Had only one daughter and sometimes that is almost too much family. Been busy trying to keep up with daughter and grandson here lately. They both go like lightning and I seem to always be facing the wrong direction. But I think I am going to win this one. Slow and steady is always best. Now if they will just stop long enough for me to tell them.
Quentin - I used to have to come upstairs in the dark after Morning Joe. Now it is pretty light. Until next Monday....Blah!
She who has no signature! cinscocom-tmw
Hard to believe it's almost time for the Masters tournament! I could care less about golf but I sure would like to take some photos of the NS office car special as it makes its way through my neck of the woods to Augusta, Ga. Anyone out there know when she'll head south?
Mookie Quentin - I used to have to come upstairs in the dark after Morning Joe. Now it is pretty light. Until next Monday....Blah!
....It won't be long Jen....even adding an hour of darkness in the morning....We're gaining daylight morning and evening rather fast now.
By the way, as today, Mika can handle the crowd just as well as Joe when he's missing as he was this morning.
Mookie It's raining here. Bye Bye snow....
Don't get too eager to bid the snow farewell. Additional snow remains possible through the first week or two of April, especially in this type of weather pattern. Not saying that it will happen, but it could happen! Nevertheless, I am happy to see the rain tonight, as opposed to snow. Hopefully it will wash some of the dirt and grime off of everything.
Willy
No daylight savings time in AZ as we are much too busy to be changing all of our time pieces.
Mookie and Q you will just have to work harder to make up for the time spent changing. And Sunday will be a short day also. Sorry about that.
Q - Mika does great, doesn't she. Joe has a tendency to talk over his guests - louder and longer. Drives me nuts! Chris Matthews does it too. I like Ed and Keith because they politely let their guests finish their thoughts. Why invite them if you are going to talk over them?
DC - I start on Sat am setting clocks. We have so many clocks/watches that the poor Driver doesn't know if he is coming or going. It is one thing that has always exasperated him in our marriage! I figure it keeps him on his toes and young! So many people are so greatful that they don't have to live with me!
I too would like to see the NS train - at least the engine. And as for the Masters, will peek in to see if they have any wild animals playing.
Must go wash Willy's mouf out - saying that dirty word snow.....
Well, it got into the mid 60s here this afternoon and No rain, so Sarah and I got the bikes out for the first ride of 2010! Took cameras with us, tried to do some railfanning, but honestly didn't see any trains. At least not until we were just a couple of blocks from the house and couldn't get back to the tracks fast enough.
Yes, we can still have snow..... I can remember waking up on Easter Sunday and seeing that White Stuff on the ground. Several different years.
Not looking forward to setting clocks/watches back the Sat./Sun. morning....should enjoy the extra hour of Daylight though.
They had me go out today and help the field crews get out of a scheduling jam. It figures...it rained. Came back in to do my regularly scheduled brain damage and got handed a new headache in an e-mail from the mothership. At least I'm out in the field tomorrow and Lurch isn't roadworthy. (some in the mothership got an extension in their corporate life expectancy for at least a day)
Run Willy, RUN!
ps- It's raining rather large rocks around here. Hope Uncle Pete is getting through Glenwood Canyon (south side) OK....... http://www.denverpost.com/ci_14633690

MUD: With all the freeze thaw cycles that occurred this winter will we see a lot more of this?
Good Tuesday morning, everyone. We have 43 degrees, and fair conditions this morning. Now they are saying that the rain won't get to us until sometime this evening, going off and on thru Saturday? Oh well, at least everyone should stay nice an dry for Tuesday Produce this morning!
Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, cider and hot water for hot tea are all fresh and ready to go. On the warmer/serving station this morning: bagels, bear claws, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits & gravy.
Just had my first phone call of the morning, someone letting me know he'll be here for Tuesday Produce in a few hours. He's a very nice gentleman, originally hails from Mississippi. If I remember correctly, he'll be 85 come June.
Everyone have a great morning. Mookie, maybe tomorrow morning, you and I can get to our rockers, and watch the trains and the world go by.
Morning all......
MC: Jeez, they are still working on I-40 in North Carolina, bolting the mountainside together after multiple slides that occurred last fall. That is supposed to reopen around the first of April.
All quiet in Burlington today, did notice that when DOT finishes the bypass around our town, one of the state roads will become a county road, they already posted some of the new signage. Will start packing for the road shortly, and head out for another month of fun and games. Before that, a good breakfast to start the day.
See everyone later....

It is 45 and I have a south window open next to me! It is a little cool, so won't be open for long, but sure does feel nice and the fresh air smells so good.
Lot of water/some snow around us, but only foggy here. If we had rain overnite it was the gentle kind. No gully washers.
Hope Tree gets home soon. I miss his postings!
Randy - be careful - strange stories in the news about what some drivers are doing instead of driving. AARGH!
CW - off to find some nice pillows to sit on for the rockers.
Raining rocks are a familar thing here in these mtns. on I 17 in AZ. The past 3 wks. more often than not it has rained. On this ridgeline we have about 9 1/2 ins. What the rain don't loosen dirt , the freeze will start rocks rolling. The state has crews at slide areas thru the day and night . The night watch is of much concern , at suspect sites. The crews have a dump truck with a backhoe on a trailer. ~~ At Glenwood Canyon , with the river on one side and the mtn. wall on the other side of the tracks ~ how does the railroad handle a small trackblocking there?? That would be very interesting at night. Respectfully, Jim

Surely, they would be coming thru there on a slow order and eyes on sharp lookout for boulders on the track ahead. That sure sounds dangerous for both rail and highway traffic thru that area with super sized rocks setting precariously above.....
Afternoon, all. Sorry about getting back in here so late, but have been busy. Produce went well this morning. They brought in apples, carrots, onions, sweet potatoes, hot green peppers, and potatoes.
Our regular Tuesday Mexican Fiesta is on the warmer/serving station. You will find:
tacos (hard and soft shells), burritos (beef, beef & bean, beef enchilada style), Spanish rice, fajitas, chimichangas, and the appetizer of tortilla chips w/all the different dips. There is also some mesquite grilled T-bone and sirloin tip steaks.
Going to go make sure all the garbage is out in the trash can, and get it out to the curb. Everyone have a good afternoon (what's left of it, here on the East Coast), and take care.
afternoon
as far as this area goes I have heard dispatchers give advisories about flash flooding.Might hear those again soon.Just depends how much rain mother nature wants to give us.Ran some errands in town today.Cw thanks for supper.time to get stuff around for work.
A little rain moved through just about an hour and a half, to two hours ago. It’s gone now, and were sitting right at 54*F now. Joe, yesterday the fog was so thick trains stopped on NS until about 12:00. Decatur dispatch was really backed up! Not much rain today for us. Weather People say the lions share will be in Ohio. Keep dry!
I can’t believe that I have forgotten to tell you all this, and I hope that you will all like this. Our school (this Thursday night) will be leaving for Washington DC! I’m going, and I have been selected to do the wreath laying ceremony at Arlington Natl. Cemetery!!!!! I’m so excited! We are taking a bus out there (a Greyhound fortunately!)
Have a good evening all!

Congratulations, Justin! That will quite an honor for you, laying the wreath! You all have a great time, and think you'll be bringing back any pictures to post here in the Cafe?
Rain hasn't made it here yet; but it is very cloudy and overcast, and you can feel the dampness in the air! Making it a tad bit chilly outside.
Everything has been replenished on the warmer/serving station for tonight. Everyone take care, and have a good evening.
Lots of slide fences and a track inspector preceding the train this time of year.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone. Gee, it was very slow in here last night; most everyone must have been out in their yards, doing cleanup work, getting ready for spring.
Coffee, juices, milk, chocolate milk, strawberry milk, and hot water for tea are all fresh this morning and ready to go. Mookie, here's you coffee mug, all ready for you! (I like the pillows you picked out for the rockers!)
On the warmer/serving station: bagels, bear claws and BLT sandwiches
We currently have a temp of 57 degrees this morning, going for a high in the low to mid 70s for this afternoon. No rain for today, but will be in here tomorrow, Saturday thru Monday. At least that is what they are curretnly predicting.
Everyone enjoy the morning, and take care.
Didcha notice I had them "pre-dented"?
Gloom and gloom again here. But....it smells a little like spring....
busy night at work last night.busy again here at home today.y 101 is trying to squeeze between trackwork and other trains to get the job done.Cw thanks for supper.Time to get stuff around for tonight.
Good afternoon/evening, everyone. I'm want to apologize for being absent since this morning. I had to go to a meeting, and with the buses, I had to leave the house around 11:10 this morning. But everything is taken care of, so we are good. (Bus service has been cut, due to the economy. Sometimes, you can get where you're going, if you walk, but for some people, walking is a problem!)
Since Joe has already thanked me for supper, guess I'd better post a supper menu.
For tonight, we'll have burgers, brats and hot dogs, fixed on the grill, w these side dishes: tossed salad, fries (regular and curly), pork n beans.
Our indoor/outdoor thermometer is currently showing 75.8 degrees outside, but the official is being listed as 72 or 73 degrees. Whatever, it is very, very nice outside!
Everyone enjoy your supper, and have a great evening. Take care, you all!!
