Well, it's time to move again, so welcome to the new digs. Enjoy the buffet and warmer bars, on the house today only.

It's 29 and clear in Carolina at the present, expected to warm up some, I hope.

Everybody take care and stay warm.

Good Sunday morning, everyone.  Joe and Tom, thank you both for breakfast this morning.  Slept in again:  it was after 11:30, when I went to sleep last night, and didn't wake up until after 7:30 this morning.  Took care of kitty cats and doggie before getting in here this morning.

Yeah, I'm glad I had started packing up non essential things last Thursday!  I think that helped you guys with the moving (I hope!)

We may see some sunshine today, but highly unlikely.  Too much cloud cover around here, but we still should see a high of around 42 for today.

I've got a big pot of roast, taters, carrots going on the stove top for our Sunday Dinner.  Now, to get started on the other side dishes to go along with the roast; and I'm making up a batch of dinner rolls.  Yeah, I try to do some things the old fashioned way, and make things from scratch.

Everyone have a good morning, those going to Church services, be safe, and make it back in here A-OK!

Afternoon, everyone.....

Sorry about the smell in here, picked a little too high of a gear coming down the 6% grade into North Carolina, and on the 6% grade coming into South Carolina on Interstate 26, got the brakes a little warm.  Didn't see any smoke coming out, and truck still stops, so no damage done.  50 degrees in Duncan, SC, right now, have the windows and vents open and airing out the truck, feels good.

The smell should clear out in a little while, no longer than an hour, so dinner should not taste funny.  What's on the bars still tastes ok, and I have not felt funny yet......

See everyone later...

Randy, no problem!  The smell is completely out of here, and I've reset the serving station for tonight's Sunday Dinner.

1.  There's the roast, taters, carrots w/beef gravy, your choice of green breans or broccoli w/cheese sauce, corn, your choice of cole slaw or tossed salad, and dinner rolls or made from scratch buttermilk biscuits.

2.  Beef casserole w/above mentioned vegetables from #1.

3.  Ham & cheese subs

The three of us went out for a couple of hours this afternoon.  Stopped by an Open House, and went over to the CSX yard.  Nothing much at all going on, while we were there; although, it did look like a train was preparing to leave the yard shortly.

Everyone have a good evening, Joe take care going back to work tonight, and you all take care.

Boy, these new places come around fast....!  But that means starting tomorrow, we'll be into the month of Spring startup.....Snow melting all day here.   And expect it to continue to melt all this week until it's all gone.

Perhaps we can do that by tomorrow or Tuesday....To be up to 40 or so all week.

Happy March 1st.

I am still totally uncollected - too much going on right now.  Among other things - think we will go file retirement papers for the Driver.  After 20 years of marriage, decided maybe we can live together full-time ok.

MC - sounds like Lurch is hazardous waste site?  Poor baby!

CW - coffee, coffee and more coffee.  Going to be a busy day/week/maybe month!

Good morning Madamozle La Mook and everyone. 31 degrees and clear in Carolina nearing sunrise. The boffins are calling for, get this, .56 inches of rain later. One must endeavour to be accurate, I suppose. We shall see.

With that, see yall later. Stay safe

Good Monday morning, and Happy March 1st to everyone.

Mookie, here's your coffee (and mine, too), along with the rest of the morning beverages:  Juices (oj, oj/tangerine, apple, grape and pineapple), hot chocolate, milk, hot cider and hot water for hot tea are all fresh and ready to go.

On the warmer/serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, pork sausage (links & patties), scrambled eggs, fried taters, made from scratch buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy.

I originally started out on IE this morning, and it kept booting me out all the way to my desktop background.  So now, I'm on Firefox, and the only thing is, I can't type in color on here.

We have cloudy skies this a.m., with a temp around 35, 36 degrees.  Our high today is supposed to be 42.  Possible sunshine today, but maybe we'll get lucky and see some rays today.

Everyone have a good morning, keep safe and take care.

....Been melting snow in our area all night as well as this morning too....Stayed above freezing and it looks to do so on thru this week.

Overcast, but pretty bright and nearing 40 degrees.  Good by snow at least by Wed. or before....and that's a good thing.

Now we're sailing into March....a transition month in some locations and the weather can go in any direction.  But daylight hrs. and temps avg. are incereasing, so onward towards Spring....Just weeks away.

And just weeks away from lawn mowing....{huh,..not kidding}....If it continues in a normal fashion, that we'll be doing by the end of this month.

Still waiting on that .56" of rain, but nothing in sight yet. A winter storm is a'coming and the upper (western) state will likely have a bit of snow later tonight. Our projected low is 35, so the .56" will be all rain.

Looking forward to supper, thanks in advance

Good evening, all.  Sorry about not being around since this morning; but, Walt has been on the computer, working on getting things ready for his National Guard pension, come November.

So, supper is going to be:  leftover roast, taters & carrots and the other leftovers from your dinner yesterday.  And if anyone wants, I can fix you up a burger/cheeseburger and fries.

You all have a good evening, and I'll see you all in the morning.

Modelcar

.....Good luck with that project Walt.

Truly.  I'm enjoying mine...  Smile

Spent Friday and today (Monday) sticking little reflective dots to the diamondplate on the back of our pumper and rescue truck.  I may regain use of my thumb (gotta make sure each and every one is stuck down good!) in a few days.  Black Eye

Here's what the finished project looks like when you hit it with the flash from the camera:

Were it not for the dots, all you would see of the trucks would be the marker lights and a few strips of reflective material.   The truck on the left is our rescue - the area around the tail lights is nice, shiny diamondplate, too, but you see almost nothing of it.  I decided not to put the dots there so they didn't mask the taillights and turn signals.

Interestingly, you can see quite plainly that one of the axes is missing from the back of the pumper - it was getting a little touch-up and the paint wasn't dry yet...

If my calculations are correct, there are upwards of 10,000 .75" dots there...

Chevrons such as this are now becoming standard on the rear (and sometimes the front) of fire apparatus.

Thank You Quentin and Larry for those encourging words.......Wink paperwork to join the Guard, paperwork during your stay, and extra, extra paperwork to get out, and hopefully get some extra money from them.

Larry, are the reflective materials on the backs of the apparatus a mandated thing?  I know that they are easier to see in the dark.  [for most people that are not somehow impaired.]

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  Our current temp this morning is 32 degrees, going for a high in the low 40s again today.  Will be mostly cloudy again today.

Coffee, juices, and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  Mookie, here's your coffee mug.

On the warmer/serving station this morning:  bagels, bear claws, oatmeal, toast, turkey bacon, pork sausage, biscuits & gravy.

And just in case Walt is back on the computer, doing paperwork for his pension, I've got the Crock Pots/slow cookers going with pork chop abracadbra, so you all will have something for lunch today.  And this evening, guess we'll have Mexican Fiesta, unless you all tell me something different you want tonight.

Guess I'll go start getting ready for Tuesday Produce, and feed the cats and the doggie Win-Win.  See you all later, and everyone take care.

It's in the NFPA standards, which aren't law but are sometimes interpreted as such.  It's definitely an option on new apparatus - you won't see as much diamondplate there as you used to.

They actually recommend the flourescent version - I just couldn't bring myself to use that.  I used straight yellow and red.

I've seen pictures of rigs with the front bumper striped as well.

Tree - pixel-like?  I also had to hunt for the axe.  Kind of like hidden picture/seek and find, but I found it.  That was fun.  Any more?

Joe - I sent a NS on a junk train south to St Joe/KC area.  Behind an unpainted Santa Fe engine.  It was a nice change from the constant ugh orange.

Walt - got this all figured out.  We get social security and will start medicare and supplement this spring.  So you get $$$ from SS, they deduct medicare and your supplement out of it and send you approximately 60 cents in change.  And that is after 40 quarters for both and one almost full and one over full retirement age.

Ah yes....the older I get, the more I understand.  Worked with one man that was 75 and still working cuz he couldn't afford his insurance (his thinking), wife was within a year of SS age and had a major heart attack and now can't enjoy life with his widow and his retirement.

I need a good stiff drink - coffee black with a chaser of oj/metamucil.  Must go find a sunny corner.

......Jen, you are describing the "golden years".....

And that supplement is important to have with your Medicare, for sure.  Pick a good one and you will find it does quite well.  Example: Mutual of Omaha.....Plan F.  And if drug ins. is needed:  AARP MedicareRx Preferred.   Disclaimer....Not recommendations, just suggestions to take a look at.

Larry, thanks for that info. I've seen those reflectives on several pieces of apparatus around here, mainly the Suburban depts. (although city's Ladder No.1 has that on the back of the Tiller, can see that several blocks away.)(Sarah's dept. has some reflective material on their apparatus, but not like that.)

Mook, 40 quarters!  How did you know that's how much we would get?! ($) I understand that there are a few Philly Lawyers that don't understand that stuff.

Stiff drink and Sunny corner sounds great, don't need the "chaser" just yet.

Maybe as I age another year or two, or three, I'll understand that stuff a bit better.

To our newest member of the Cafe, Tyler, I think, friend of Justin; sorry I'm just now getting around to welcoming you here........No Alcohol, No Cussing, and for Heavens Sake; Don't MIFF the Cat or the Cook!

Even though it is still a bit "chilly" outside, (38 degrees) thinking about getting the camera and doing a bit of railfanning....seems the NS is doing some MOW here close to the house.

(got to get out, can't wait on people sending me emails, or phone calls about the National Guard stuff....according to all the voice-mails I got yesterday, it will be the middle of next month before I hear from anybody!)

Heard on the scanner yesterday, that they were trying to find a place in the yard to put a car(s) with a panel switch. Have no idea where it's supposed to go, maybe I can find out.

Normally there are two axes mounted on the back of the truck - in a mirror-image way.  If you found one, the other is supposed to be on the other side, handle-to-handle.

There are also two D handled "closet hook" pike poles mounted back there.

And yes, definitely pixel-like:

Here's the trucks in daylight:

Sunshine and blue skies continue.....and 38 plus temp continues to work on our "old" snow....Since Feb. 7th.  About 85% of grass showing in lawn now.  Weather good enough that I just went thru the car wash with my truck.

Afternoon, all.  Well, looks like we will be having our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta tonight.  On the warmer/serving station:

1.  Burritos (beef, beef & bean, beef enchilada style)

2.  Tacos (hard of soft shells)

3.  Spanish rice

4.  Chimichanga dinner

5.  Baja burgers

6.  Fajitas

7.  Mesquite-grilled steak, chicken or talpaia

8.  Shredded lettuce with diced tomatoes & onion (onion is on the side, just in case someone doesn't want onion)

Everyone enjoy, have a good evening, and take care.  I'm going to head on over to my farms, and see what I need to get done on them.

Tree - cool!  Now I have to run behind our Truck and see if they have their axes in place.  And we have an Engine 13, also.  It lives at Station 13....  Approve

Going to the farm to wave at CW across our lot lines.  No snow there, either!
