Gentlemen: It has been a day or so since I have actually been on a track, but do they still have those incredibly steep banks? I was amazed the first time I actually got on the track and had to walk down the incline.

Watkins Glen sounds like fun. I see the DIRT cars on TV once in a while. They look like they'd be pretty fun to go watch.

I do EMS occasionally at the local D.I.R.T. track. Many of the big names of the circuit race there. We don't see the outlaws often, but there's till plenty of action. And for the uninitiated, "dirt" is a misnomer - it's really clay. I almost got stuck in the infield one time because the way out was up turn 4 and it was raining. Talk about slick!

Watkins Glen is going to be a tough decision. I already have commitments for several of the big race weekends, including NASCAR week, which is one weekend they really want everyone there. It's about a 3 hour drive, but the camping is free, and I'm sure the outlay for food won't be too big.

I've been lurking here watching you guys talk about food for a long time. But now you bring up something (besides food) I really love...car racin! Tree, I think it would be cool to work a race like that. But my first love is dirt racin. In fact the World of Outlaws are in Houston Saturday night, and we're going if it would STOP RAINING!

Carl-I think I suggested converting the express office to a workout room. We will get a stationary bike for you.

BC - I notice our "spot" could use a little clean-up. I help where I can, but can't go out on the tracks to pick some up. And....we have a little trouble with tumbleweeds there, too. Imagine....

<Ouch!> I'm here. <oooh!>

Spent the day yesterday picking up trash around the yard (railroad yard, that is). I just felt tired as of last night, but could barely move this morning!

May I please have some of that fresh orange juice?

We're going to do a bit of walking today--Chicago's flower show is on Navy Pier. Both daughters, granddaughter, and granddaughter's other grandma will be with us.

And I get to exercise all of those picking-up muscles all over again next week (maybe there will be a little less scrap metal). I hope to begin the biking season between now and then, but the forecast isn't too promising.

<Owwww!>

Good morning everyone. Feeling better today. Breakfast is a little late, I
know. Just couldn't make it to the computer early this morning. My eyes
did not want to wake up. Breakfast will be all the usual breakfast items,
along with Ky. Country Ham and grits. Usually save the grits for the week-
end, but what the hey. After frying the country ham, will have to make
another pot of coffee: used the coffee to make the red eye gravy.

Lunch will be: country ham & biscuit sandwiches, hamburgers, fries,
and grilled cheese sandwiches, and garden salad.

Supper special will be chicken fried rice or special fried rice.

Joe - used to listen to the Indy before it went to tv. That was the highlight of the whole day! When it went to tv - it lost a lot of it's lure. (no imagination)

Tree - I think I remember hearing about that accident. How tragic!

Fortunately I missed that race, but we had the tire thing at the local D.I.R.T. track. Unfortunately the young lady it hit didn't survive her injuries. The application for membership in the Watkins Glen organization gets right to the point - it's a dangerous business...

Zardoz! You are up early this morning....

Making coffee right now - literally! Our human coffee maker is on vacation and I am struggling, so as Voltaire said - I am thinking for myself!

Tree: I used to go to the stock car races and spent a little time in the pits myself - just an observer. Had a good friend that was one of the "fireman" on the scene at those races. You just brought back many memories....

The track is now a Wal-Mart store! Irony!

Are you going to go? If you were a little closer, I would drag you there myself and then stay to watch! [:D]

how about some kentucky country ham and some biscuits and red eye gravy.
reckon there's a railroad diner with that on the menu? i can enjoy it morning, noon, or
evening. i used to like tennessee country ham but i'm having to watch the salt intake
and the tennessee version is very salty. of course, a side dish of grits and enough
red eye gravy to handle the biscuits and the grits. folks up above the ohio river have
their hash browns which don't take to gravy like grits do, but since jimmy carter, you
can find grits on the aisles of all the major supermarkets even in yankeeland.

Nah - She probably has words of wisdom for me about standing in close proximity to drivers (with an apparent death wish) in colorful cars ....

Does that make GTO Get Tickets Often? I always though it was Gas, Tires, Oil (or get towed often...)

No problem. Wouldn't be the first time. Just wa***he paws first - no cat scratch fever, if you please...

And on another topic, a fellow firefighter/EMT sent me an email inviting me to become part of the volunteer portion of the safety team at Watkins Glen. It's very tempting, but I have several conflicts in the schedule. Free camping, a lot of comaradarie, not to mention all the cars going fast. Far more entertaining than D.I.R.T. racing on a oval. Jury is still out, pending a little more information (like, can I skip the biggest race of the year).
