Jay, are you referring to Louisville, Lexington, or some other KY. city/town?

Ah,March madness. That's St. Pats day and high school/college hoops. I gave up "celebrating" today several years ago. Both my B ball teams had very good seasons, but ran up against conference teams having fenom years. That big school in Madison is still undefeated in this years tourney (first rouind game tonight? I haven't checked) Our Milwaukee "Branch" (that would make them mad) knocked off Alabama. Get your licks while you can, the big boys are a comin'.

That UK-Cincy game might be interesting, but I don't think that's a rivalry. The two are separated by 85 miles, a wide river and a big culture gap. On the other hand, if two popular KY teams manage to meet at the final four, that game could well lead to the establishment of the 51st state.

Have fun!

Think we'll lend a hand with the dishes before Boss Hen gets her Irish up![:I]

And now, we have the Kentucky Mildcats and the Cincinnati Tree Sloths (What a bearcat really is) on Saturday....Anybody know who LouisNash is pullin for?

Hope there is enough leftover corned beef for a sandwich on Saturday...(darn, just realized I'm in school during the game...rats!)

Not exactly sure who Brian is pulling for,but that was a closer game
than expected.

Thanks for helping with the dishes, and there should be enough 'leftovers'
for a sandwich.

(MC,you're right;they were 'Mildcats' today)

Now that was a silly question, Mudchicken.

I'd like to say UK all the way, but after this past weekend I have doubts. Today's game was a little closer than I thought it would be.

I just hope they beat UC. The rivalry is much greater where I'm at, only being 40 miles from Cincy. There are 5 people I work with that live in Cincy so you probably know how it is where I'm at.

But I am going to have to say UK Saturday to win. I like to see Huggins pout when he loses.

My hometown of Pendleton Co. KY made it to state tourney's this past week. It's the first time since 1971 they made it. They lost first round, but they played a heck of a game. They lost in OT, 64-61. I was glad to see us there

TOP OF THE MORNIN' to everyone today. Hope you all have
a very good St. Patrick's Day! Yes, I am actually part Irish, and guess I
could be considered a leprachaun due to my lack of height.

Joe, I'll take an order of the green eggs and ham. Will be putting on the
corned beef and the cabbage in just a little bit. AH! beautiful pistachio
pudding. Love it. Can you hear "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" and "O
Danny Boy" playing on the CD player? Have all kinds of Celtic music
playing today.

Why does Iraq have all kinds of fast food joints? Is the U.S getting rid of the concept of Oil for Food program in favour of a Oil in Food program?

Just what Iraq needs; meals of mass destruction........

To all the people out there that have been in the military,
I think we know what 'green eggs' look like.(yuck !!) And I really hope
The HAM isn't green. 'Corned beef and cabbage'sounds great !
The' Shamrock Cookies' sound good also.

And Tom;as much as I would like to celebrate with a beer,no
alcohol in the 'Diner'.

I'm back.

I'm afraid you'd never catch me on a stationary bike. "Stationary" just goes against the grain for me, most of the time. If I'm pedaling, I want to be going somewhere (can't visualize pedaling without the handlebars, or using a computer keyboard at the same time)! Thanks, anyway, for the offer.

I could barely sit down on the floor today when we took a break at the Flower Show. I told my daughter to be ready to help pull me back up, but I didn't need her for that. I did a short trip on the bike this morning, and was OK for that.

...Nascar tracks {paved}, are mostly banked but some much more than others....Daytona has max banking of 31 degrees and Talladega has 33 degrees, the most of the major Nascar tracks....You can hardly crawl up that steepness.....The Indy 500 track which Nascar runs on in August is about 9 degrees....To look at it, it appears about flat but the turns do have that much banking. They are in process of repaving that track now...over 2 million dollars worth. [8D]

And on another topic, a fellow firefighter/EMT sent me an email inviting me to become part of the volunteer portion of the safety team at Watkins Glen. It's very tempting, but I have several conflicts in the schedule. Free camping, a lot of comaradarie, not to mention all the cars going fast. Far more entertaining than D.I.R.T. racing on a oval. Jury is still out, pending a little more information (like, can I skip the biggest race of the year).

I was a volunteer racing official / track worker for 30 years (1963 to 1993). In the NYC area I worked for the Eastern Motor Racing Association as a Turn Marshall and Asst Flag Chief. Tracks worked were Lime Rock (Conn), Bridgehampton (LI), Pocono (PA), and Bryar Park (NH).

I moved to SoCal in 1977, joined the Sports Car Club of America and got a National Observers license. Worked Riverside, Willow Springs, Carlsbad, Ontario, and Long Beach. Worked a lot of NASCAR, CART, TransAm, CanAm, IMSA, SCORE, Vintage, and Formula One, in addition to club races. Lots of fun, but in 1993, 6 years after the closing of Riverside, the effort began to be more than the fun, so I stopped.

I and my family are still racing/rallying fans and my grown sons are active in SoCal rallies. I am retired on disability, so going to the Fullerton Amtrak station to watch trains is more my speed these days. I like to drive so occasional trips to rail hotspots is also on the list, as long as I don't have to do much walking when I get there.
Welcome to the diner.

I saw the Riverside track but only from a car - several times. My driver (husband) is from Downey, but lived in Riverside and Ontario and finally San Diego, so I have been in that area many times.

Depends on the type of racing. DIRT is usually only a half mile, so speeds don't get too high (still high enough) and the turns aren't banked very high. Besides, half the fun of watching a DIRT race is seeing the cars sliding around the curves.

I took a tour of Charlotte which included a lap of the track. The banks are pretty high. So are the speeds.

My father worked at GM's Proving Grounds in Michigan, so I had the chance when I was young to ride on several of their tracks, including the oval. The "supers" are banked quite high, and if you're in the top lane, a look out the passenger window sees nothing but pavement.

I guess they're all banked a little differently. The one at Houston Raceway Park is called "semi-banked", but it still looks pretty steep to me.
