It has been a day or two, but I am thinking I may have witnessed it on air.

Careful - Toto might take issue with that statement. (but it does fit, the job involves quantities in a landfillWhistling [:-^])....and this is the neighborhood that swallows railroads whole (or is it hole?)

//back to the salt mines (and will fill all the DINER Cafe salt shakers for free.)

...ps - Jack, that diamonds will get busier after it quits snowing west of here (hint) and LJ will see more Armour Yellow merchandise freights. (and it's snowing to the point that the roads west of here just got shut down again - They'll be skiing into July at the rate it's coming down up there.)

MC, the Armour Yellow will have to find their way through coal trains parked, some on the main between Swink and LJ. I was there in January and there were three in LJ, one west of the wye and another eastbound at RF.

Don't know if they were waiting for rested crews, congestion or track work south of LA Jct. or a combination. Anyway, that AM there was no room to get to LJ and then proceed east.

Be careful with your 'salt mine' work.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

For tonight, I have warmed up the steaks, burgers, etc., from last night, and everything is now on the warmer bar.  Joe, I've got some containers ready for you, for work tonight.  Lance, if you're still around here, there are containers for you, also.

So far, our high for today is 75 degrees!!  We have even turned on the fan in the living room, and the one here by the computer.

The guy who cuts our grass came and cut both front and back this morning.   He got here just before 8 a.m., and he worked fast.  Because with this being Spring Break, he had to be at work at 9 a.m.  Good thing the school is just around the corner from our house.  You can see it from our back yard, and the front side yard.

Mudchicken, maybe you could pack up some of the snow you all are getting, and send it down Duff's way, in Florida!!  I'm sure they would love it when it melts!!

Eastern Air Lines, by way of Eddie Rickenbacker.

(had to look it up - I remember Godfrey, but not that well)

Apparently he gave so much free advertising to EAL that Rickenbacker decided they owed it to him.  They put DC-4 engines in it, and it rattled Leesburg, VA so bad that they built a new airport...

Very true Mr. La Rosa sang better than Arthur. However he got fired because he lost his humility.  Ms. Carmal Quinn was really upset bout that.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  Apparently I forgot to set my alarm last night.  Didn't wake up until just after 6:30 this morning, thinking it was Saturday morning.

Coffee, juices and hot tea are ready to go.  On the breakfast bar this morning:  cereal, since I woke up so late.  I'll try to make it up to you all at lunch today.  Any requests for lunch today?

Now, I've got to get ready for Tuesday Produce.  Already see the sisters sitting out in front , so guess I'd better get myself on track, and get it in gear!!

...Cannonball:

Can't make any comments of "beam" flying but I suppose you might be referring to a radio beam transmitted from airports along the flight path, etc....

We did have a beacon light right at the top edge of our little home town in Pa., and it was removed roughly about 1940.  Elevation there was about 2000 ft.  If the aircraft was headed west, the next obstacle was Laurel Hill {about 13 miles}, and that elevation is about: 2600 ft.  That Laurel Hill would be the same mountain range the traveliers of the Pennsylvania Turnpike would remember as going thru the Laurel Hill Tunnel.  And that tunnel was bypassed back 20 some years ago.

There are a few remaining lights we speak of above still standing.

I can remember the distinctive sound of the DC-3's passing over and especially at night very easy to recognize them just by their sound.

And I have ridden on DC-3's {as a passenger on a commuter line, much later in time}, and have a fond memory of such flights.

Wow, I am envious CW...I hope never have to use the alarm again after I retire (what would be really nice is never to have to use a clock or watch again, but that might be too much to hope for), AND forget what day it is and have every day seem to be Saturday.

Good morning everyone. Quentin, there was one of those beacon lights about a mile or so from where I grew up. I can remember sitting on the porch at night and watching it sweep around the sky. They took it down in the 50s. 59 degrees and clear this noon. Yall take care

Walt;  S.O.T.P.flying was ,Iron compass  or I.F.R.( I follow railroads) .

Quentin; Also those red beacon lights were used by the first air mail pilots. There is quite a history bout those fellows night flying.  You are right bout the mellow sound of the Pratt & Whitney , once heard never forgotten as well as the Rolls Royce Mustang whistle. Trains had a big roll in the aircraft industry.  If you flew it , a train brought part of it.

                                  Respectfully, Cannonball

....Interesting Tom....The beacon light I refer to in my home area used to shine right past our home and in my bedroom window as it rotated.  Sort of a security light as a youngster...all was ok, when the light was shining.

Cannonball:  Oh yes.....The beacon's that were up on a hill side shining out at night had one side very red in color and the ones {on the routes}, that were positioned at an airport, had the one side of a bright green.

Years later, I walked up the farmers field to the concrete base where said beacon stood and it's angle iron pieces were still sticking out of the concrete where it was anchored.  Just in writing this, I wonder now if that base might still be there.  As I noted earlier, it was removed about 65 or plus years ago.

Love the sound of the old DC-3's....Love to watch them take off....First the powerful deep sound as it starts down the runway and soon the tail rises off the ground and not much farther the landing gear lifts off the runway and it's on it's way.....

At least in those days, there weren't as many abandoned lines as there are now!!

(I've flown with a couple of pilots that I don't think they knew where the rail lines went!)

I've been busy, busy, busy this afternoon!  For supper tonight, you have:  meat loaf, shellie beans w/onions, and a choice of cabbage or cole slaw.  Except for the cole slaw, everything is now ready and on the warmer bar.  Cole slaw is in the cooler.

Desserts tonight:  chocolate cake, yellow cake w/coconut icing, banana pudding and rice pudding.

Joe, have containers ready and in the fridge, for you  for work tonight.  I haven't heard back from Lance, but there are containers ready for him, also!

And Joe, we're supposed to get those thunder showers tonight, also.  Not supposed to start until late tonight, but you never know.  They could come in any time!!

I am exhausted.  Had to watch the Driver put together a 900 pound puter desk for me.  I had to read the instructions and count out the screws!  Rough job, but someone has to do it.

Then I was so busy at work today - I hardly had time for my two naps.  Hopefully tomorrow will be a little better - still have to watch the drawers being put together and then direct the placement in a corner.  Ha - that is all this bedroom has is one large corner - that's the entire bedroom!

Time for bed - c u all tomorrow.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone!  Well, I woke up on my own this morning, right about 5:10, and remembered what day it is!!  (Maybe I should be tested for beginning Alzheimers, since I have forgotten what day it is, twice now, in two weeks.)

Anyway, coffee has just finished brewing, fresh juices are made, and on the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage patties & links, scrambled eggs, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy and fresh fruit is available also.

Mookie, where did you find a 900 lb. puter desk?!?!  That isn't going to get wobbly on you!!  That will probably still be around when all of us have gone to our final resting places.  Wink [;)]

Today is the day I go for my second opinion visit with a different cardiologist.  Appt. is at 2:15, so I should be able to get lunch together for everyone.  Should be easy enough:   I'll just warm up leftover meat loaf, etc., from supper last night.

Have had some light rain overnight.  But I think it's out of here for the next little bit.  Should have light showers off and on until this afternoon.
