Tom, that Shrimp sounds very good, that's something I will eat.(and plenty of!)

It's not like I don't like fish, but just have a very serious "burn out" from having to eat

so much of it years ago.

It's about 50 degrees here right now, thankfully no rain, and not supposed to be any

chances of this weekend.  Editorial Cartoon in todays paper showed a sponge cut into

the shape of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, with the caption "Over Saturated"........

not sure if they're meaning all this rain we've had, or the political ads that have been running.

CW, thanks for the Saturday AM elaborate spread. Since I will be overstuffed and unable to walk the Flea Market please pick up (I'll pay) any authentic railroad dining car dishes that are not damaged. They will be added to my collection.

I still call at small 'mom and pop' cafe's that my traveling experiences have found. It sure is sad to stop and find new owners, which usually means change from what got me to stop.

Quentin, as far as I know the track is still there and weed control is still being done. There was some scuttlebutt a while back about some limited use, but apparently it hasn't come through yet.

.....I thank you for the input Tom....Right before they stopped running on that route, on our way back from wintering in Florida for some years....I would get off the interstate there and drive back to Saluda to check it out and have lunch, etc....

Never lucked out to see a train come there and stop and make ready to head down that extreme grade.  Nor any coming up grade...None at all.  Waited around as much as 4 hrs. but guess it wasn't to be.....

Did enjoy our times there though when we stopped in at Pace General store...{wow, talk about going back in time}, and talked to Mr. Pace several times....Learned some history from him.

I'm sure the RR was not happy to have to run on that route but boy, what a spot for real fans...!  And what a beautiful place in the early springtime as we'd come by and see the new blossoms, flowers, and in general, things greening for the season.....But no trains.

Hey Grampaw, if you're ever in the Lexington, SC area try the Harbor Inn seafood place. My wife is one of the managers- tell her you like trains and she'll probably only charge you double! They do a good job. You ever check out the South Carolina Central? Joe the Photog has put a number of photos on the railpictures site- seems they have an engine or two stored on a siding in the Bishopville area.

The pizzas are now on the warmer bar.  On tonight's menu:  anchovie, cheese, pepperoni/mushroom, Hawaiian, and supreme.  Sorry about the short pizza menu, but this cook is tired after being at the Flea Market all afternoon.

Jack, sorry to report that they didn't have any railroad dining car plates out there today.  Not even any damaged ones!!  As a matter of fact, I didn't see anything railroad related, not even the railroad lanterns we usually see out there.

Good Sunday morning, to one and all.  Well, temp's not too bad this morning:  44 degrees, going up to 70 for today.

Coffee is ready, and I've made fresh oj and oj/tangerine.  Also have hot water on for hot tea.

Breakfast this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy; or, you can have cereal and fresh fruit.

Do I have any requests for SUNDAY DINNER??  If so, please let me know; if not, I'll come up with something, not sure what, right now.  (Think my body and brain are still too tired from all the walking I did at the Flea Market yesterday.)

Joe, glad to hear the wedding went well.  May the Happy Newlyweds have a long and blessed marriage.

I had Mutt fire up the charcoal grill, and have fixed the following for Sunday Dinner:

top sirloin steaks, rib eye steaks, tuna steaks, burgers, cheeseburgers, brats, hot dogs, pork chops, corn on the cob, grilled "baked" potatoes, grilled onions, green sweet peppers, red sweet peppers

Other side dishes include:  cole slaw, three bean salad, potato salad, baked beans, and cornbread (cooked on the grill in a cast iron skillet)

Desserts:  chocolate cake, chocolate pie, and the following cobblers:  apple, blueberry, cherry, peach and strawberry.

CW and Mutt, you must be expecting to feed a rail relay gang with all you offer. I will wait until I finish putting Super Deck on my cedar deck because I would need a siesta if I partook first.

Well, decided to go take in the boat show (we are just a short distance from Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence River - which still has some ice).  Nothing there I could afford.

Just as I was leaving I heard a siren, so I listened up on pager and ended up running on an accident.  No serious injuries, but three folks made the trip to the hospital anyhow.

Beautiful day, though.  I should probably take a few minutes to do some yardwork.  And see how many of my bulbs have come up.  One section of my bulb garden is looking like it will be very colorful!

Speaking of yardwork, I had my share yesterday- invited a few church buddies over and we took down two maple trees, a thirty-footer in the front yard and a forty-footer in the back.

Need some wood for the diner fireplace?

Good Monday morning, everyone.  Really had a beautiful weekend, and looks like today will be another beautiful, sunshiny day.

Coffee, juices and hot tea are ready and waiting to be poured.  On the breakfast bar this morning:  turkey bacon, oatmeal, toast, french toast and fresh fruit.

You all may have to fend for yourselves at lunch time today.  Have a couple of errands to get done, and I doubt that I'll be back in time to fix lunch.

Sure, Brian, bring it on over, and we'll stack it out back!  It'll come in handy next winter, and maybe we'll use a little bit of it, next time we grill out.

That plane crash happened several blocks from Bowman Field, (LOU) Louisville's first airport.

Was a military field back in the war days. From our place here, probably about 11-12 miles.

(ground, not air miles, "or as the Crow flies")

The site is close to St. Matthews and L & N's "Shortline" to Cincy, an aerial view might have shown those.

//edit: after closer look at a map book, could have been NS's Louisville to Danville line

around the Buechel area also.

Mook, could you Please not make so much noise when you come in!? I was still sleeping!

(was doing some maint. on the layouts last night and must have fallen asleep under the

big "O" Scale layout.)

Muddy One, don't get caught dozing at the BNSF-UP diamond, although most of the trains will be UP unless a detour is in effect. Maybe some grain trains being loaded from the huge elevators but with #'s 3 and 4 passing in the night there will likely not be much BNSF moves.
