THE FLAT WHEEL CAFE
Posted by cherokee woman on Friday, February 15, 2008 11:11 AM

As you can tell, it's time to rename this place.  We are still the same, with the train layouts and the Diner in it's same location:  just a new name.

We can still talk trains, and whatever else you wish to talk about.  But still no alcoholic beverages will be allowed in here.

Just to let everyone know, I talked with our esteemed owner, JHH, the other day.  He's doing all right; just staying very busy with the railroad there in North Little Rock.  Also, he's probably not going to be around, as he is getting ready to go back to school, for a degree.  He just hasn't decided which degree.  Said he'll probably try for a management degree.  We wish him all the best!!

On our Friday Fish Fry menu today:  cod, haddock, hallibut, flounder, perch and salmon patties.  Side dishes:  corn on the cob, baked beans, fries, cornbread.

Desserts today:  chocolate cake, yellow cake w/caramel icing, and the following pies:  chocolate, apple, peach and cherry.  (Need to start baking some more pecan pies!)

If you need anything, just give a holler, as I'll be in the back, baking pies and cakes and cobblers for next week.

Thanks CW, and please allow me to be the first customer in the newly renamed Coffee Shop.  I too am looking forward to spring so we can get rid of the ice and snow and get back to sitting in our lawn chairs trackside watching the BNSF parade through Eola or Rochelle, etc.

I like your menu for today very much so thanks (but there goes my waist line AGAIN).

In addition to alcohol being understandably taboo here in the Coffee Shop, can we also say a big NO NO to drugs of any kind?

As my name, dining car, suggests I will enjoy the creations of CW even tho I must have them forwarded to Prescott, AZ where there is a light snow falling. Yes snow. My home is at 5600 feet in the AZ mountains. It is also near the BNSF Transcon for train watching and scanner chatter between trains and the Fort Worth DS.

Took my bride (of several years) out for dinner and music last night so am now off the hook until May, her birthday. Don't bet on it, we may go put agian tonight. But CW please send some of your goodies when they come out of the oven.

Wow - I leave for a day or so and they repaint!

Just sticking my nose in for a minute and then back to more frolic and fun.

Heard they had snow at Palm Springs?  Cool [8D]  We will be a touch warmer - 30's 40's this weekend, so will be trackside for a good part of it.

Off again....

DC - This being a 'virtual' diner, you can stop in anytime, anywhere.  That's the beauty of it.

Laugh [(-D]  How convenient, that you skipped right past winter, and into spring.  We're struggling to keep it above 0 today, so I guess our spring is still a little on the nippy side.Wink [;)]

.....Our 1" of the stuff is having a difficult time surviving today as it's above freezing.  And the sun is out occasionally so it's not going to last much longer.  Much more daylight now, so Spring is rolling in fast.

March can be full of surprises but in general, they don't last very long.

They just issued another Winter Storm Watch for us starting late Saturday night into Sunday- up to 6 more inches of the white Censored [censored].  And the long-range forecast doesn't look a whole lot better...

In my way of thinking, March 1st should be the first day of Spring, but at least in South Dakota,  winter has been known to hang on here well into the month of April. I, like Brian, am getting awfully tired of the sub-zero temperatures & the white Censored [censored]. I wish I could pack up and start life anew in a much warmer location, but for me, doing so is not that simple.

Everyone is more than welcome to suggest some good names for the Diner and CS;  I've been picking my brain, but haven't come up with anything that sounds really good.  So you all give me some suggestions, and hopefully, we'll come up with something everyone can agree on.  Then, I'll change the thread name.

Now then:  the next round of our Friday Fish Fry is now on the warmer bar.

For a new name for this thread, I might suggest something like

"THE TRAINS MAGAZINE DEPOT & DINER, SPRING 2008"

Just a thought on my part. Does anyone have any better ideas?

How about "Eat at Bergie's" (a play on the old "Eat at Joe's" electric signs you see in old movies)?

My apologies Joe, I forgot that you could very easily run a diner of your own under that name...I will just have to come over some day soon and partake of the menu delights!

Here is greater suburbia we have dogs all over the place, including my 85 pound Golden Retriever "Amber" who does here share of keeping some of the snow yellow this time of the year.  Thankfully nature covers the yellow with fresh white every few days.

Talk of all that white stuff brings back many not so pleasant memories.

Now where I reside they bring in dump truck loads of snow from the Mountains once a year so the kids can play in it. By the way temp reached 69 today.

Well, Hopefully we can all come to some conclusion as to what we'd all like to name this place.

I am a bit predjuiced about a name; but "CW's Trackside Place" (railroads,

not anything else) comes to mind. Second choice is "Eat at Bergies's" since he and a few others have been gracious enough to let us have this space to do whatever......

Yes, I know others have been in and out and have helped with this place, but CW has

been here since jhhtrainsplanes opened the first one!!

[besides, maintenance on the layouts and sign changing is starting to get to me.]

The name should have a railroad flair. How about naming it CITY OF LOUISVILLE, another could be COMPANY BEANERY, lastly, L&N DINER. I know. These stink mightily.....

Getting some very good suggestions.  I'll continue taking suggestions for you all until Tuesday (that'll give the folks gone for the weekend a chance to give us some ideas).  If you don't want to post your suggestions here, you can email me thru Trains.

Well it looks like I'm the first one in the diner this morning, so I think I will take charge of serving breakfast. I've got the coffee brewing and I've mixed up a batch of fresh orange juice. On the menu for this morning: buttermilk pancakes, french toast, with hot maple syrup, scrambled eggs, bacon, pork sausage links, and I've made a pan of my cinnamon rolls. I've been busy most of this early morning working here in the kitchen.

We have 20 degrees here in Sioux Falls, and it is supposed to warm up to about 31 this afternoon. Smile [:)] If it were to get a bit warmer than that, then maybe we could get rid of some of this white and brown Censored [censored].

I hope the rest of you out there have a good day!

Good Saturday morning, everyone!!  Think today will be a beautiful day, possibly with plenty of sunshine.  And we won't talk about the forecast for tomorrow yet!!

Ray, thanks for coming in early, baking the cinnamon rolls, and fixing the rest of breakfast, along with making the fresh oj, and getting the coffee going.

Later on today, I'll be posting the entries for a permanent name here, so everyone can see what they are, and decide which one we all like the best.  (And when I do post them, I will not tell whose suggestions they were.)

Everyone have a great day, and come back in around 6 p.m. EST for our Saturday Night Pizza Fest.

....A really nice Winter morning.....Bright sunshine and our low was not what was predicted:  Actual...18, and thought it would be: 11.  So we're off to a pretty nice calm winds day.  Believe they are saying as high as 50 tomorrow.

'Mornin everybody, sun shine and cool (2F) here in Aurora this morning with a heavy storm coming tonight bringing freezing rain, then regular rain then heavy snow tomorrow (oh joy).

Hey, how about "Poster's Lounge" for another possible name for this thread?

I'm hoping to get trackside for a while today if the weather cooperates and here's hoping you do as well.
