The Flat Wheel Cafe
Posted by cherokee woman on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 11:17 AM

Good afternoon, folks!!  Looks like we may have a new name for our place; but, we'll keep up the voting until 2 p.m EST (so anyone leaving work will know the results before morning).  That way, when you see the new name on this thread, you'll really know where we are!!

Ed Benton, and wife:  I'm very sorry to hear about your loss.  I know you are grieving deeply, and will remember you in my prayers/thoughts.  My deepest condolences to you both.

We only had 41 people show up for TUESDAY PRODUCE today.  Our goodies today:  cabbages, green peppers, oranges, potatoes, and a few grapefruits.

On the lunch menu today:  open-face turkey sandwiches w/mashed taters & gravy, green peas w/carrots, cole slaw and fries, if anyone doesn't want mashed taters.

Desserts today:  chocolate cake, yellow cake w/caramel icing, and apple, peach and cherry cobblers.

Enjoy your lunch, and I'll be back in a couple of hours, with the voting results.

Well, I changed the name of this Cafe about five minutes ago.  REMEMBER:  we're still the same people, only the name sign has been changed.  (So, I'd better still see everyone coming in, chatting and eating!

WELCOME TO:  THE FLAT WHEEL CAFE  !!!!!!!

Maybe more chat, less food?

The new sign looks great!

Ed, I grieve with you on your loss. Your wife needs you right now, more than ever. Remember, there is one waiting for you now in  Heaven. My prayers are that G-d will meet your needs in this time of sorrow. Love you both

Edbenton, my wife and I can directly relate with what you and your wife are going through right now, having gone through exactly the same situation twice ourselves.  Like others have already said, be there for each other now more than ever and you will likely find (as we did) that such experiences make you stronger by bringing you two together closer than ever before.  I may be a hard a-- outside but I shed a tear for you just a bit ago having relived the memories of our losses back in the late 1970's just now.  God bless you both.

Thoughts/prayers for Ed and family.

The new sign is great.  I'll see you folks around.  CW I've got an HO scale project that should make you smile!  Gimme a couple of weeks to get it situated and I'll post some pics.

Running late with supper for us east coasters tonight, but everything is on the warmer bar:  leftover open-face turkey sandwiches w/mashed taters & gravy, along with some Italian spaghetti w/garlic bread and garden salads.  Hope you all enjoy your supper.

The meterologists are now saying that anyone north of I-64 (Indiana) will probably get more snow than we will tonight/in the morning.  They are predicting that we'll only get a dusting to maybe a half inch.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  Well, so far we in the Metro area are not getting any of the snow flurries/showers.  And that suits me just fine.

Coffee, hot chocolate, cider and tea are all ready waitin' for you guys/gals.  Although, lately, it seems that Mookie and I are the only gals around here.  Mookie, we are seriously outnumbered around here.  But I think we can handle these guys, right?Wink [;)]Evil [}:)]

On the breakfast/warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, toast, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, blueberry muffins, strawberry muffins, bagels and bear claws.

Mookie, your coffee mug is down off the shelf, where you can reach it, and I'll fill 'er up, when you get in here.  Then, I'll meet you over at the rocking chairs, for a quick morning chat.

Spokyone, I read in the paper earlier this week that Madison has already surpassed their all time SEASONAL snowfall record with over 87 inches...and this would hold even if they don't get another flake this season!

....Reporting from the midwest's central Indiana....had some snow showers overnight and it brought us about 2 1/2" of the stuff.  Still off and on snow showers this morning, but at times the sun is shining like right now....on my computer screen.  22.8 degrees as I type.  Seems to be almost no wind and that helps.  Radar shows it's working it's way east and out of here.

Some speaking of snowfall totals...Ours to this point is: 21".  Seasonal total avg:  27".

I expect to be mowing the yard in just a tick over a month from now.

Note:  Watched the shuttle touch down about 9:07 for what looked like a great landing this morning.

CW, with all of that great food I would expect that we guys will not make the gender imbalance an issue. I call it even, and pour me black coffee, blueberry muffins and scrambled eggs will suffice this AM. If I partake of more I will have to work some to burn the calories and this retired railroader has become allergic to work.

Chance for rain in the AZ mountains today and we hope the cloud cover is gone by 7:00 to 10:00 tonight so we may view the eclipse 0f the moon.

Aww c'mon Mook!  You could have (as of 5 AM):
-air ambient temp: -12
-wind chill: -31
-and two feet of snow + drifts + piles from shoveling

That's not fun???  Ok...I'll close the door but it'll take some time for the air I sent ya to warm up.  No promises!  Wink [;)]

CW I'll take a plate of whatever's hot.

Got some pics to share with you fine folks of the lovely winterland we have up here:

Hey everyone!  You all having a good afternoon, late morning?  We are cold, temp is in the mid 30s, with winds blowing around 25, gusting to about 35 mph.  Vehicles only had a very light dusting of snow this morning.

Now, it's time for our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta!  On today's menu:

1.  beef & bean burritos
2.  beef burrito enchilada style
3.  tacos (crunchy & soft shell)
4.  enchiladas
5.  quesadillas
6.  Spanish rice
7.  Fajitas
And there shredded lettuce w/chopped onion and tomatoes, if you want that over your burritos, etc.  And the usual thick & chunky salsa and con queso w/tortilla chips.  (I could make a meal just with chips and a mixture of salsa & con queso!!)

Regular desserts of cakes, pie and cobblers are also on hand.
