Sunshine in AZ this AM. Snow of yesterday is already disappearing and will be 50 +.

Working on taxes and even with TurboTax it's a pain. Sorry I missed breakfast but a pretty lady says lunch is on the way.

Started the morning with a controlled burn of an old trailer.  The construction was amazing - 1/4" panelling and 1"x3" "studs."  No wonder they burn like tinder.

Good later afternoon everyone. Thanks for the calzone! Dinner [dinner]

How about calling this place the Beanery? After all, I remember old-time railroaders often called the company cafes beaneries because they served a lot of bean dishes.

Good Sunday morning, folks.  Joe, thanks for putting the coffee on, making the juice, and making breakfast.

Joe, we aren't getting any rain yet, but it's headed this way, supposed to be hear around 9, 10 a.m.  We're already at 52 degrees F this morning, going to 62, 64, with the thunder boomers that are headed our way.  Then, tomorrow, a high in the low 30s.  It's a wonder we all don't have pneumonia!!

Feeling kind of sad:  my mother's youngest brother passed away suddenly yesterday morning, at age 80.  But I am remembering, when I was little, and my other uncles and aunt would come up to Louisville, from Tennessee, and we'd all get together at this uncle's house.  He, his brother, and brother-in-law, would start playing their guitar, banjo and steel guitar and dobro and play some good ole country music.  In the summer time, even their sister and brother-in-law would come up from Hardin County, and everyone would gather in his backyard.  With everyone gathered around, it looked like a mini country music  concert or jam session going on.

Do I have any requests for Sunday Dinner today?  If so, please let me know my 10, 10:30, so I can get it started.

You all have a good day, and stay as dry as possible.

Paula, I am offering my condolances to you in regards to the loss of your uncle. I fully understand your feelings of sadness because I've been there with the loss of loved ones more than once. If it were physically possible for me to give you a big hug, I would.

We have 35 degrees here in Sioux Falls, and it will cool down a bit to 29. I am getting ready to go to work, a few minutes ago I could hear a train moving through Sioux Falls about six blocks from my house and unfortunately I don't have the time to go watch it at trackside. It was either the BNSF or the Dakota & Iowa. Most likely the BNSF, I think.

I hope the rest of you folks out there have a good day!

Condolences from Iowa, Paula.

We're getting heavy snow now, it was rain until just before we got up this morning.  Our church cancelled our bell choir and chancel choir performances, but not the services; regardless, we chose to stay home and sit this one out.

I enjoyed visiting the Mad City Model RR Show over in Madison yesterday, and meeting a few more forum members- on the way back, I managed to catch a couple of trains in and around Dubuque, IA, but conditions were such that I couldn't get good pictures to share.  Better luck and more time, hopefully, next time...

First, my thoughts are with you today on the loss of your uncle...be happy that he is in a better place now.

Well...we are getting heavy rain here in Aurora and are under a flood watch for the day.  We are supposed to get snow later but likely not as heavy as you guys in Cedar Rapids are getting this morning.  I am going to have to go outside later and cut a "channel" through the snow on my patio to let the rain/melting snow water escape so we don't have a skating rink later when it freezes (dangerous). My bride made some really good meat loaf and mashed 'taters last night for dinner and it was really good (you can tell I am not a fancy food eater, just the basics for me and I am happy).

CW, how about turkey and fixings for tonight?  Yes, I know it's not Thanksgiving or another holiday but I'm kind of in the mood for some reason.

CW - Sorry to hear about your loss.  Sounds like you have some good memories, however, and those you'll always have.

The ol' weather radar isn't looking very promising.  Since the temp has gone from slightly below zero near midnight to 35 as I type this, we're in for some rain.  Yuk.  Wait till the snow is supposed to melt for good!

I'll second a turkey dinner.

Time to put some polyurethane on the box at the foot of my bed.  The Dal uses it on his way onto my bed and it's gotten scratched up.  It's not like it's fine furniture, though...

Condolences CW, we will all have an extra thought as we bless our food today.

I lost two RR associates last month, men I had worked with for many years. Makes us appreciate all of those good times; also those we share at this site.

MC, while this is where we discuss great food I shall not bring up the specifics of the 'steak house' a few miles east of the neon sign, located somewhere southeast from Denver.

Beautiful morning in AZ, bright sun and will be in the 60's today. Spring training is the topic in Phoenix and Tucson and I shall drive the 100 miles more than once to see 'the boys of summer' get ready for the 162 game baseball season.

Ray, Bob, Brian, Eloafan, thank you for your very kind words.  Yes, I'm very thankful that my uncle is not suffering, and he is definitely in a much better place!  Maybe I can get to the cemetary Tuesday, and meet everyone else there, since there's no bus that goes by the funeral home, to the best of my knowledge.

For Noon Sunday Dinner, I am in the process of frying chicken, have potatoes boiling on the stove, along with green beans.  There is also the following extra side dishes:  cream style corn, homemade buttermilk biscuits, and chicken flavored milk gravy to go on the biscuits and mashed taters, cole slaw and sliced tomatoes.

For our Sunday Dinner at Supper time:  oven roasted turkey w/dressing, the above mentioned side dishes along with sweet potatoes w/melted marshmallows on top, cranberry sauce, potato salad, and fruit salad.  This part should be ready and on the warmer bar around 7 p.m. EST.

In our thoughts and prayers CW - We (BossHen & I)are just back from opposite coasts doing the same thing a week ago.

Diningcar:

(1) Will be asking offline if those were two of Chico's children and if I knew them. I just came back from way down south, helping another of Chico's kids (this one something of a boomer) on a rail project.

(2) Went past the 72 Oz Steakhouse multiple times and never ventured in there.

Light snow and 30 degrees here.

Hey Brian. Nice pic. We skipped that photo op 2 years ago on our extended trip. We will do it this time. How much did the Native Americans charge you back then for the priviledge?

Bob, I don't recall whether or not we had to pay anything to visit the site, but I do remember that there are sure plenty of opportunities presented by the locals for spending your money close by!  We ended up spending $30-$40 on Native American trinkets, IIRC...

Yep, Tom, we can do that!  As a matter of fact, I'm making some cobblers right now, and about 4 of them are peach cobblers.  And I've also got some vanilla ice cream, that can be put over each individual serving, too!

Everything's going on schedule, so the turkey and trimmings sould be on the warmer bar right at 7 p.m.  And as I'm putting everything out, I'll make sure to fix some containers for Joe and Lance to take to work tonight, and if there are any others who would like one to go, maybe for work tomorrow, let me know, or you can dish up your own, to take with you.

Mr. & Mrs. Mudchicken, thanks a bunch for your wishes.

Hey Brian!

Very nice picture of yourself. I had for a long time kind of wondered what you look like, and it's funny how an actual picture can be so different from what we imagine in our own minds about others!

Official snowfall total for today according to local Channel 9: 5.5 inches, which gives us 55.9 inches for this winter, putting it in seventh place on the snowiest winters list!  And we still have a month to go...

I know how you feel, Ray, went thru that yesterday when meeting members at Mad City RR Show.

Good Monday morning, everyone.  Hope you all had a great weekend.  Our weather is cooling down again.  Even have a chance this afternoon of light snow flurries/showers, but no accumulation this time.

Coffee has just finished brewing, and there's fresh juices made, along with hot chocolate, hot cider and hot tea.

On the warmer bar:  the usual turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits & gravy, along with some muffins, bagels and bear claws.

Hope you all have a good morning, and I'll see you in a bit.
