....Appears he {Ray}, hasn't been on for a while.
Tom, it looks like quite a bit of weather was moving across the southeast, and wonder how you folks made out with it......
Quentin
Quentin, we had two days of drizzle and rain, with the highs in the 70s. There was a thunderstorm this evening, and we were under a tornado watch from 2PM till 7PM. I don't think anything came from the warch, but it was moving north, and last time it happened, tornadoes hit NC. Take care

Good Friday morning, to one and all! Cold around our area: 30 degrees here in the city, and in the low to mid 20s in the outlying areas. But, they say we may see some sunshine later on this afternoon.
Tom, haven't heard anything from Ray. Guess I'll have to try to find out how he's doing. Will let you know, if I can get in touch with him. And Tom, I was wondering how you all fared with your rain and tornado watches yesterday. Glad to know you are all all right.
Coffee, juice, hot chocolate, hot cider, hot water for tea are all ready. On the counter: our Friday Morning Doughnuts: regular cake and glaze doughnuts, chocolate covered doughnuts, chocolate covered cream and vanilla filled long johns, raspberry and cherry danish, doughnut holes, blueberry and strawberry muffins.
You all have a good morning, take care, and keep safe out there.
Good morning everyone. (Grabs big mug of hot coffee and a few raspberry danish)
Can we have a big pot of New England clam chowder as part of the menu today?
Good morning. 51 and sunny in Carolina this morning. CW, thanks for breakfast, and I second the motion on the N E clam chowder. That would hit the spot. We did OK on last nights weather, and I haven't heard of any damage. That said, now I have to hook up the antennas and rotors again..... Please let me know what's going on with Ray. Thanks, and stay warm
I am eyeing Sactoguys' raspberry pastry - if someone would distract him.....
Ray sent me a missive this morning - it was a pass along, but would indicate he is still out there.
Heard from daughter in Bemidji. If you were planning to go there this weekend, I would advise against it. Sounds a little, no, a lot wintery!
NE clam chowder would be great! And an extra bowl for my toes....(there goes that raspberry again.....)

Thanks for the congrats on the new arrival. She is at home now and my wife was happy to have Mom and Dad back home to again take charge of her siblings.
Cold and more cold today, but the wind is due to turn from the south and maybe send up some of that Texas heat for tomorrow. Forecast of 34 degrees for tomorrow but with clouds and rain otherwise I would go out and work on my tan.

Okay, Tom, Quentin, and everyone else: I emailed Ray, and he wrote back. Aparently, for some reason, he can't log into Trains. But he's doing o.k.
Jay, we may be able to do around here tomorrow: supposed to get into the low to mid 50s around here for the weekend, into Monday. (Is it any wonder everyone around here sneezing, and taking a kleenex, hanky, for their runny noses?!?! It's a wonder more people haven't come down with pneumonia!)
SactoGuy, Tom, Mookie, and everyone: I've got a big pot of New England clam chowder, just about ready to come off the stove, and go onto the warmer bar. So, you've all got that, along with our regular Friday Fish Fry menu:
Cod, flounder, halibut, haddock, perch, salmon, shrimp, clams, scallops, rolled oysters, and the usual sides: cole slaw, corn on the cob, fries, hush puppies, baked beans.
Peach cobbler, yellow cake w/caramel icing, and the following pies: apple, peach, blueberry, and pecan.
If there's anything else you all would like, just let me know, and I'll add it to the supper menu.
I just caught some info on the ice storm covering upstate NY and New England. One million without power. I'll stop whining about the cold weather here for now.

I'll have to pass on the desserts tonight. Barbara & I drove down to Memphis last weekend for some BBQ pig outs. Corky's & both Neely's. I saw a CN train on the IC bridge on Monday. FIrst time for that. We had thought about driving on down to New Awlins. Got back home Thursday. Not much snow here in Aledo. Some corn still remains to be picked.
There is more fish, fries, etc. on the warmer bar for supper; along with something special for someone whose birthday I almost forgot: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RANDY VOSS!!
Just in case Randy gets to stop by, I've made peppersteak over rice (I do know that that is one of his favorites). I'm glad I thought earlier about putting cherry pie on the menu today, as that's one of his favorites! Once again,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RANDY!! Hope it's been a very good one, so far today.
Happy Birthday, Randy. All the best for many more
Yo Randy! Are you stuck in the eastern storm somewhere? We December/Pre-Xmas birthdays get a little short changed, but we can still have Happy Birthday(s)

Good Saturday morning. Tom, thank you so much for getting everything together, and fixing breakfast! (Maybe I ought to sleep in a little bit more often.)
Joe, you all be careful on your trip to Ft. Wayne. Hopefully, the traffic won't be too bad for you, and the roads will be at least semi-clear of snow/slush.
You all have a good morning, and and take care going out in the cold.
..........Can't really greet all with a "good morning", as it just passed the noon mark....{here}....Our day is not one to complain about for this time of the year. 29 now and sky is bright and no snow.
We hope the best for all the folks in New York, New England, etc....area. Our hope is for them to get their power back as soon as possible. It really looks like serious damage to the power grid. We experienced that recently {2005}, so memory is fresh how that effects {everything}....Not a good situation. I remember during our last ordeal, after hundreds of linemen from all over the eastern area were here in Muncie....and one day, a restaurant that did get power back, a group of linemen came in from their rugged work schedule....to get some food and everyone in the restaurant stood up and applauded them and moved them beyond the waiting line. A really touching moment...! They were from 9 or 10 states helping assemble our power grid back to working order.
Enjoying a quiet weekend....Processing the thoughts this is our 50th Anniversary weekend. Feel very blessed.
Greetings to all as the holiday is sneeking up on us....
Modelcar congratulations on your anniversary.Mamma and I have awhile to catch up with you.Married people are a minority now in the united states and to be married for 50 years Wow.Matt and I did wander to Indiana.Mamma told us to go ahead.(hmmmm)We stopped at east wayne yard and the wabash was busy and the nkp trains had to wait as they replaced track just west of the yard.We then went north to garrett and saw our friends there.Cw will take whatever pizza is available.Tommorow Matt has sunday school/program practice.
Joe
Congratulations Mr. Quinton
I believe this is the correct thing to say on such an achievement. They should always be celebrated with those far and wide. The amazing thing is about such celebrations is how most everyone stops and will truthfully say best wishes and hope for many more. I do hope that you and you better half, best friend and confidant will have many more such milestones in the future.
Perhaps a trip to warmer climes for a spot of time would be in order for the two of you.
In reading your posts over the past few years and today you have proven what I think that Robert Browning said best many years ago to his beloved Elizabeth Barrett (Browning) "Come grow old with me, the best is yet to be."
Warmest best wishes,
(aka Roy)
piouslion1 "Come grow old with me, the best is yet to be."
Wow, Roy.....Thoughts well said....Thank you. Warm weather is really nice this time of year. We did spend 8 winters in Florida some years ago and enjoyed it very much. The back and forth got to be a little much and we ceased that activity back in 2001, I believe it was.
And Joe, thank you for your thoughts too.
A very blessed and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to the MONGS!!!! And I, too, wish you both have many happy years ahead of you. Quentin, I always love to read your posts, not only here in the Flat Wheel Cafe, but on the other threads as well. Believe I have learned one or two things from your sage advice and wisdom.
Quentin, let me jump in here with my heartfelt congratulations. Like someone said earlier, this isn't news you hear much of nowadays and is always good to hear. Please pass my good wishes on to your missus. Your supper here tonight is on me and my bride of 38 years.
And now, time for our Saturday Night Pizza Fest. On tonight's menu:
1. Anchovie
2. Cheese w/extra cheese
3. Canadian bacon
4. Chicago style
5. Goetta
6. Hawaiian
7. Pepperoni/mushroom
8. Supreme
9. Calzones (Italian sausage & also, pepperoni calzones)
And, for dessert, I went and got a special cake, with " HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO THE MONGS" written on it. (Happy Anniversary, Q & J!!
Must have been an accident in the diner - said Server was down. Couldn't get in front door for awhile. Anyone hurt?
Anyway - Happy Golden Anniversary to Quentin and Jean. And many more happy and prosperous ones. Will give Dan and Misty something to work toward.
60 degrees here today - and after a low overnite of 45, will drop like a rock to teens for tomorrow afternoon. Oh joy and rapture. I am so thrilled! But no snow - that is staying up north.
Joe - sent a greenie with an ugly - on the Detroit Edison coal train to you this afternoon. Also saw the gaudy KCS motors with freight headed to KC. Mostly coal moving back and forth, tho. Will try to check again tomorrow - but will keep the heater on and the windows up tight for the viewing!
Heard from Willy - he has been accepted at 4 universities and was awarded a Regents Scholarship. I am so proud and not even a relative! He will stay in his home town and attend one closest to home. Maybe he will pop in over Xmas and give us his plans. I figure in a few years we will have Willy2 PH.D
I know Tree is busy, but worried about him so close to the ice storm. Hope he checks in very soon. He is probably a blue spruce by now.
