Well rats! He got away.

Some years ago we were dispatched for a person hit by a car.  They'd just gotten clipped by the mirror as they walked/staggered down the centerline, but there was still the real possibility of a significant injury.

When we got to the spot where he was hit, he was gone.

We walked down the road a piece, checking the shoulders, but didn't spot him.  Most everyone else turned back, but I wandered a bit further, only to catch him in the beam of my flashlight, running/stumbling away.  I lost track of him as I called back to the others that I had found him.

There was an opening in a hedgerow where I'd last seen him, so everyone else figured he'd gone through and started looking beyond that.  Something made me stay in that area a little longer, and I finally heard a low moan.  Found him laying on the ground in the hedgerow.  We'd shined our lights in there, but not down on the ground, as we figured he'd be standing up.

I think he had a broken arm.

Now I'm hungry.  I see an unclaimed bearclaw.

Well, the clock is showing that it's time for me to get the Friday Fish Fry out on the warmer bar.

Fish:  cod, perch, salmon, talapia, flounder, haddock, halibut, and jumbo butterfly shrimp

Side dishes:  Cole slaw, fries, hush puppies, corn on the cob, choice of pork n beans or baked beans

Desserts:  Yellow cake with either chocolate or caramel icing; apple, peach, strawberry or blueberry cobblers and pecan pie.

Larry and other current/former firefighters, I really enjoy reading your posts about past runs you've made.  They are very interesting!!

Evening all, and who forgot to turn up da heat?  Was all of 5 degrees in Richfield, WI this morning, had to leave the truck idle all night to keep the fuel warm. Not much better here in Perrysburg, was 15 when I shut down, but fuel is winterized and engine is plugged in.

Dan--noticed the idiots already out on the lake by 41.

Mudchicken, ain't ice fun?!?  Got chased out of Buffalo last weekend, and down US15 in PA last monday trying to avoid the white stuff.  Depending on which way the winds blow this weekend, might be in it tomorrow with the paper load, or Sunday with the bottle load out of Auburn, NY.

Well, into the bunk, and under the blankets.......

Good Saturday morning, everyone.  Joe, thanks for getting breakfast together.  You must have read my mind:  I was going to put some cinnamon rolls in the oven for breakfast this morning.  Thank you, kind sir!!

Yeah, Sarah  and I did go do a little bit of Christmas shopping (for me, it was more Christmas viewing), then went to the grocery store.  It was sometime between 8:15 and 9:00 when we got home last night.  Then it was time to get supper here at home.

Joe, you all be careful on your way to and from the surprise party!!  We want you all to make it there and back home safely!!

Randy and Larry, bundle up and stay warm!!

Doing my infamous yawn this morning.  Slept in bed 5 hours and then in chair for 3.  Head all plugged up in bed, so couldn't stay down.  Now I need to work out the "chair shape" before I can get ready to go out.

Will grab coffee and whatever I can fit into my purse for breakfast.

Later....

Our Saturday morning, we have gray skies....and in the last few minutes it now is putting down some snow flakes.  Weather people last night suggested we can see about an inch of the stuff today.  Temp. now: 24.6  That's not warm, but "warmer" than yesterday mornings temp.

I just got home from work and right now it looks deceptively warm outside. We've got 17 degrees here in Sioux Falls, and with the wind out of the northwest at 18 miles per hour, the wind chill is 1 degree below 0.

I wasn't supposed to start work until 11:30 this morning, but the assistant manager at Wendy's called me at 8:00 this morning and aske me if I could come in a bit earlier and help her get the store ready to open, so I was out the front door and on my way to work by 8:25 or so. I know that I covered the one mile between my house and where I work in about 20 minutes, and I try to move as fast as I can in order to keep my circulation going.

Mookie, having colds and sinus infections is no fun, I've been there numerous times. I hope you will be able to make a recovery without too much delay.

Gotta get ready to go to a Christmas party tonight with some of the people I work with at Howes Oil Company, and I am supposed to bring a "white elephant" gift. I found a couple items in my basement that I can get rid of, but I am kind of dreading what I might end up with tonight. When I picked up a white elephant gift at last year's party it was something that was real embarrasing.

I hope the rest of you folks are staying warm!

Mookie, hope you're feeling better by now.  Being so stuffed up and congested does make for a difficult time sleeping.

Ray, hope you get something better this year at the party.

And speaking of Christmas parties, we are getting ready to go to Sarah's fire department's Christmas Party.  So, here's the Saturday Night Pizza Fest menu:

1.  Anchovie; 2.  Cheese; 3.  Hawaiian; 4.  Pepperoni/mushroom; 5.  Supreme; 6.  Pepperoni/Italian sausage; 7.  Pepperoni calzones

You all enjoy the pizza fest tonight, have a safe evening, and take care.

Ray/Cw - head clears up when I sit up, so having practiced all my life for a possible job on the railroad, I have learned how to sleep sitting up, with one ear open, both eyes closed and my head in a drop position so I won't snap my neck off if I flinch.  Big Smile

Turned out to be a nice day for winter-that-isn't-here-yet.  Only 31, but if you stay on the south side of any building, it is sunny and not too breezy.  It started out cloudy and gloomy and we had Ray's NW wind.

Maybe I will throw an Xmas party here in the "office".  Mannheim Steamroller, carrots for horsey D's, milk for beverage and popcorn for dessert!  Only two chairs, so will be a small party!

Ray, hope you get something better this year at the party.

CW, at last year's Christmas party the "white elephant" gift that I picked out turned out to be a metal tool box, but inside this tool box one of the girls had included a BLACK BRA!!!!!AshamedBanged HeadAshamed Needless to say, it didn't fit me. I snuck into Howes Oil Company the following morning with the intention of leaving this bra on some girl's desk, and when I did, my boss's receptionist found out about it and she warned me that this could cost me my job. I quickly went back and retrieved it, and I don't remember what I did with it. I might have tossed it in the company's dumpster.

Earlier this week I had a conversation with Linda, Mike Howe's secretary & Company receptionist about this whole incident, and I was unable to remember much of any of the details of it. This is what being a type II diabetic is doing to the memory circuits in my brain. I reckon I'd better get back into the habit of testing my blood sugar.

Good Sunday morning, everyone.  Very, very chilly this a.m., with a current temp of 21, and supposed to get up to 32 about 4 p.m.  Supposed to be a heat wave tomorrow:  temp is supposed to get up to the low to mid 50s.

Joe, thank you for the doughnuts, coffee, hot chocolate and juice.   Glad to know you all made it home safely.

Mookie:  HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy B-Day Happy B-Day

I hope it's a very good one!!  And yes, there will be a special Sunday Dinner (as soon as I get all the birthday decorations put up).

.....For my generation, it's a special day.....Pearl Harbor Day...Dec. 7, 1941.....!  And all hell broke loose.  Our skies are clear now just as they were on that day where I heard the news....Pennsylvania.

This is a cold one.  Instrument was on 12 when I first looked at it but since has dropped in the 11's as the sun is about to rise.  No more snow, but I imagaine the wet roads have frozen over.

Travel will be for S S and Church.  Look forward to seeing sunshine work on this cold land in the coming hour...

Mookie, all the best on this occasion. I would sing happy birthday, but the internet isn't ready for such a grand performance. Hope you have as many more as ye have now. Currently, 37 and sunny in Carolina this lovely Sunday. Joe, thanks for breakfast.

Here is today's Sunday Dinner menu, as requested by our very own Birthday Lady:

Fried chicken with all the trimmings:  green beans, mashed taters w/gravy (you can have brown gravy or milk gravy), corn, garden salad or cole slaw, buttermilk biscuits made from scratch, and for dessertchocolate cake w/chocolate icing.

And yes, let us all remember the other ocassion for today:  Pearl Harbor Day.  Please remember all those brave souls, the ones who died that day, and the ones who survived that horrible attack.
