It is good to hear that all had a great Thanksgiving. We did at my house as well. I am however a bit envious of Mookie. Her team did come out on the winning end of things out in the West. I am afraid however that my Georgia Bulldogs did not do so well against Ga Tech (trade school to us from the Athens area). Three points is a hard loss to take, especially when the year started of with such promise. Oh well there is always next year.

Have a great rest of the weekend folks.

PL - I just caught the sports news and the Big 12 is rocking.  The Kansas/Missouri game highlights were pretty spectacular, too.

We are very proud of our Huskers, coming back from a mess over the last few years.  I really think we have it all together now and will play many great games in the future!

Tree - I am heading for my map to see just where you are and where you started.  First, things first, however.  Stopping by the cookie jar......

Good Sunday morning, everyone.  I hope you all had a very good evening, and getting ready to have a very good day.  Our is a rainy one.  Current temp is in the low 40s, and our high today is to be in the 47, 48 degree range.  Then tonight, the temp's supposed to get down to about 28, with snow showers through tomorrow.  Only calling for an accumulation of about a half inch (that much hasn't changed since yesterday).

Coffee and juices are freshly made this morning:  orange juice, oj/tangerine, apple juice and pineapple juice.  We also have hot chocolate, hot water for tea, and hot cider.

Enjoy your breakfast, and have a good morning.  I'll be back around 12, 1 p.m, w/our Sunday Dinner menu.

For your Sunday breakfast this morning:  bacon, eggs, pancakes, bagels, bear claws.

JoeKoh
a calm start so far but we are to have rain change to snow today

There is "weather" lurking around the southeast and all thru the mid west and up thru the eastern Great Lake system....

Here, right now a wet, wet snow falling like it means business.  Not to be any accumulation until tonight or overnight and into Monday, but this will deposit some the way it's coming down right now.  The very wet type of stuff that is almost rain but still snow flakes.  Temp: 34.  We sure don't see the sunshine today...like we've been seeing much this Fall.

I'll have to wait this out and brave thru it and then consider if I can put off a bit longer to have winter tires installed on my little truck along with my 2 sand bags made just for weight at the very back of the bed behind the wheel wells.  Winter tires are never as smooth as all season tires, etc., and I hate to live with them any longer than necessary.  I do have posi-traction rearend but one must be careful with that too....It can push sideways on making a turn if not careful.

Winters are not something new to me as a former resident of southwestern Pennsylvania, but being older now I'd just as soon do without this stuff....

So, everyone be careful where this stuff is coming down....The season's first is always dangerous...People not used to it.

Wet on the shores of Chesapeake Bay this morning, and it looks to be like that all day.  The system is moving north which concerns me somewhat as daughter and her hubby are driving north from down this way as well.

Time to putter a little and play more with granddaughter before I hit the road tomorrow.

Good morning. It is 55, cold and wet in Carolina. Speaking of Carolina, today started off on a very sour note yesterday when Carolina lost to Clemson, AKA Moo U (it used to be an agricultural college and is still big in that field). No matter how good or bad the season goes, the Clemson game decides whether or not it was a success.... Thanks for breakfast and yall take care

For our Sunday Dinner, I've warmed up the leftovers from Thursday:  turkey & dressing, shellie beans, dumplings, corn, mashed taters, and baked some fresh crescent rolls; there's also potato salad, some more of Larry's cranberry relish recipe, and for dessert:  pumpkin pie, pumpkin cake, pecan pie and chocolate cake.

Right now, at 12:22, we have a temp of 45 degrees outside (on our indoor/outdoor thermometer).  I believe the rain has ended; now, guess we'll get to see when it will start snowing around here.

You all have a good afternoon, stay warm, and take care.

....A few days ago on one of the posts here on the forum, I noted comments of "foreign" power coming thru past their area.....Today, I noted the extreme of that....While having lunch at "Bruner's" restaurant that faces the east / west main of CSX, several trains did pass, but one headed west was powered by 3 CN engines and almost a total train of covered hoppers and they were CN as well.  Thought that was just a bit off the norm.

Mr. Tom:

Lower 40's with a cold rain here in Winston-Salem. A real good day to stay in where its warm.

It seems that your Gamecocks and my Bulldogs will both have to wait for next year. It seems that both of our teams were in on the hurting end of that bunch from the Florida swamp as well. I am finding myself actually hoping for that team of tide washed pachyderms from Alabama to teach some manners to whom ever plays the SEC from other parts of the country for the BCS.

Just a thought and empathy from another who suffers similarly,

Moo U - I rather like that!  Approve

In keeping with the theme - we had snow all day - but you would never know it - ground clear.  It melted on impact - but that north wind was miserable!

Foreign power - we saw a Sante Fe GP 38 as the head, and two CSX motors - one a 70ACe and the 2nd was a Dash 9.  Now there is a interesting link up.  They were hauling some tankers south - probably to Kansas or St Joe for an ethanol plant and it wasn't a very long train.  We have seen the old Santa Fe motors on lots of different freight, but usually with something else that isn't that new or that powerful.

Must add that the 38 and the 9 were working and the 9 was putting out a lot of black smoke, but the 70 in the middle didn't seem to be doing much more than riding.

Off to gather garbage for presentation to da man tomorrow....

Ms Moo.....

Lots of coal headed east and south - probably for the stockings coming up in less than a month...Evil

Good Monday morning to one and all.  Little blustery outside this morning, as I opened the front door to retrieve the newspaper.  Believe we had a little bit more rain, or maybe some snow flurries overnight.  If it was flurries, nothing stuck overnight.  The roads are just damp; so, you know that'll cause a whole bunch of problems, in a little bit, when people start getting out on the highways to go to work and school.

Happy December 1st, also.  Coffee just finished brewing, and I've made fresh oj, oj-tangerine, and there's also apple juice & pineapple juice; along with hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea.

On the breakfast bar this morning:  oatmeal, grits, toast, bacon, sausage, biscuits & sausage gravy, bagels and bear claws.

Mookie, I managed to get your coffee mug down, and whenever you get in, I'll meet you over by the fireplace and the rockers.  We need to do some planning for next Sunday (and I believe you know what I'm talking about).  Wink

.....We're escaping the worst of the winter conditions that are passing thru the midwest in general.  Believe we're on the southern fringe of the results of the Low passing thru the area.  We do have light fine snow flakes coming down but roads are just wet.  34 plus degrees right now.

4 inches to clear with the snowblower this morning and my chief operator beat it out of town back to school yesterday.   Grrrr.

I've got our snowblower out of the backyard shed and into the garage, ready to go, but I think I'll leave it be for this one.  Not enough accumulation to worry about here- Mother Nature aughta take care of it in a day or so.

We had a similar amount this morning too.  I actually enjoy operating my snowblower...but then I enjoy trimming, edging, mowing, and cutting too.  I'll probably get some salt/sand out when I get home.

One one the locals on CN could be heard over the scanner saying something about frozen sand in the sander.  That can't be fun to remedy.

When I came home from the store, about an hour ago, it was really snowing.  It was all you could do, to see in front of you; but it was only sticking to the grassy areas.  That was good.  Now, it's all melted away.

For lunch and supper, I've fixed some chili (three batches):  mild, medium and hot (but not over 3 alarm).  And I'm fixing grilled cheese sandwiches and PB&J sandwiches to go with the chili.  I think that will be very good, on a day like today.

If anyone wants anything else, just let me know, and I'll fix it right up.

Now, to go find another pair of socks, and a different pair of slippers, to try to warm my feet!!  They feel like ice, and I have on a thick pair of socks (guess I need to find some thicker socks for this winter).

CW it's possible that your socks were warm to the point that they made your feet sweat which then pulled heat out of your foot.  I've had that happen!

Mookie...I can send you some snow and wind if you want it...I have extra!

Bird is home and working.......Boss Hen and I spent a thrilling night at Mile Marker 5 on I-80 in Council Bluffs parked for 3 hours on Saturday night courtesy of the Iowa DOT trying to de-ice the bridge into Omaha with multiple jacknifed semis littering the landscape. Crawled into Denver at 8PM Sunday with 8 inches of new snow on the ground.

Maybe next time we can get stranded on the bridge over the Iowa Interstate yard at MM 3 ?

Neglected to service the snow blower last spring and the d*** thing flooded and had to sit for 20 minutes before it finally popped.  Thanks be for electric start.  Finished the work and took it to the shop for a good tune-up.  I paid less than 5 for it two years ago.  Similar models are now on the floor for over a thousand.  Not only am I going to get it serviced frequently, I think I will wrap it in a nice warm blanket after every workout.

On my way to Maryland Friday, I'm stopping in DC  to say hello to a friend.  He is returning from an assignment in Orlando that day.  I suspect that if he weren't bound by the Military Code of Justice, he would just hang out in Florida for the next 3-4 months.  I am so tempted to just sack the tax business and find a shack on a remote Carribean Island.  Even one without trains.

Drove through some rain on the way home, and there was lots of snow in the usual snowbelt areas, but not in my yard.  That's good.  Didn't feel like clearing any snow anyhow...

Visit with grandbaby and her parents was great.  She is this close to crawling!  Remembered Gramps, too - plenty of quality time together!

Cannonball....I don't have my "new" current issue of TRAINS as of yet....But the area you are listing in your note I'm anxious to see.  As you probably remember of me writing of it before...The Kingman area and on down to Topock, and up over the old, old route 66 to Oatman, etc....testing automatic truck transmissions 38 or so years ago.  I really enjoyed doing that assignment....1969 to 1971.  Even in on Ford Motor Co's Yucca Flat testing location....Around their 5 mi. track too.

I'll look forward to see the new issue.
