Yes, Modelcar, today is a day to remember. I was in the first grade at the time that we were attacked. I do not remember the day itself, but, not long after, one of my brothers (all older than I) told me that I would not be able to put as much sugar on my cereal. Now, I do not put any sugar on my cereal. My brother who was a year ahead of me and one of my classmates and I formed "the three commandos," and planned how we would attack the Japanese who invaded us. August of 1945 brought a great day when we learned that the Japanese had been defeated. There was no public celebration in our small town in South Carolina, but all were relieved that the fighting was over. My three brothers who had gone into the service (one air corps and two navy) came home the next spring, after their three year terms were up. None was in any fighting.

I'll mop up and get dishes done tonight.  There's a fresh chopped cord of wood on the porch for the woodstove and I've got two buckets of salt and sand ready for tomorrow.  Weather guessers are talking 6"-12" of snow.  Stay warm tonight and be safe tomorrow evening/Tues AM if you're traveling.

Good Monday morning, everyone.  Mookie, sounds like you really enjoyed your birthday yesterday!  I'm very glad that you had a good day.  Regarding Col. Sanders, and his secret recipe, I was fortunate to meet the man, and talked with him a couple of times.  But, he never revealed the right combination of the 11 herbs and spices.

Dan, thank you for sweeping up last night, bringing in firewood, and mopping.  Your help is very much appreciated.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready.  On the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage links & patties, scrambled eggs, hash browns, biscuits & gravy, bagels and bear claws.

I have the Crock Pots going, with vegetable beef soup in them, for lunch and supper today.  Thought I'd better get something started, because later this morning, I will be at the doctor's office, for my yearly check-up. So, have no idea when I will get back in here.  Maybe one of you can take care of putting the cornbread into the oven, and baking it for me.  (The cornbread is made up, in the pan, and in the fridge, so it only needs to be put into the oven, about 11:15 EDT.)

You all have a good morning, and take care, and stay warm outside.  We currently have a temp of 31, and wind's not too bad outside.  Going for a high of 50?

Good morning, it's Monday. Thanks for breakfast, CW. Moving right along, 28 degrees and clear in Carolina on the way to the mid 50s. CW, I never met Col Sanders, but a friend did when he was a teenager. I did dream once that Johnny carson and Henry Winkler came calling, but that don't count, I guess. Kinda like dreaming all night about work and not getting any overtime for it..... Not feeling my best this morning, so I guess its back to bed. Take care

Well - no Internet at the hotel and see what I missed?  A slightly belated Happy Natal Day!

I do know that CSX was sending three "pumpkins" back to Ms Mook on Saturday from Albany.  The units (2 GE's and an SD) were neighborly enough to stop in Utica and pick up some cars, however.

Around 1400 folks enjoyed the "Polar Express" while I was working this weekend.  Toward the end of the second trip Sunday, one grandfather noticed my punch and used it to punch his grandkid's tickets, which led to my punching a dozen or so with my usual smiley face (sorry - I don't do words).  It kinda spread like wildfire down the aisle. Fortunately it didn't make it out of the car....

I'm pooped.  Didn't really want to surrender my pillow this morning...

Gray skies here but rather bright this morninng....29.7 degrees right now and rising.  Looks like we'll extend well into the 30's today.  No new snow has fallen in our area.

Did have 2 or 3 days that got rather cold.  Saw 11 on the instrument one day over the weekend.

Just seems like little weather systems have been sliding down from the northwest this past week or so, one after the other, but we really excaped any real accumulation of snow.  I counted just 1" in all of it.

Hope to hear of Tom feeling a bit better later on in the day down there in Carolina.

So on into the new week and the trip towards the Christmas season.

Tree:  I am sending you some snow for your polar express.  In fact, I think I will be sending it to just about everyone east of us and north of Quentin.  A little late for this weekend, but maybe in time for next ride and .... oh joy and rapture.....Xmas.  We will start making it toward evening, so mid-week?

BNSF has been busy running just about every color engine they can find.  They even ran a UP engine, which is quite rare in this city since we are only 50 miles from Omaha and their usual route.

I am with Tom - too much celebrating and woke at 3 am with a pain.  Mine was nothing serious - did the "gotta cramp in mah leg" stomp.  Puttin' the soap back under the sheet!

I have heard from two people that might be working extra due to the layoffs.  I don't know - 2 against how many thousands - but you take good news where you can get it.

Off to write the next great novel.

Ms. Mook -

On my way to Utica for the PE trips I drove through one area that would probably prefer you keep your snow (unless they happen to be a snowmobiler), but when I arrived in Utica, there was barely any snow on the ground.  The "North Pole" was also mostly bare for our Saturday trips.  Ma Nature took care of the NP for Sunday night, but Utica didn't keep much of theirs - the wind blew it all to Herkimer.

Working in the wind wasn't much fun.

I drove home over roads with sporadic snowy spots, under a cold (zero), moonlit sky.  Ten AM here and still only -5....

I was able to met, and get Dolly Parton's autograph.

......J, we really appreciate you directing that snow to track {how about that word}, north of us.

I have a personal "snow fall sheet" going here in the office and so far it seems we've collected 3" since Nov. 9th.  The most at any one time about an inch.  Would like to see these min. accumulations continue if any at all.

Q and Tree:  we could count all the snow flakes we have had, which doesn't bode well for when we do finally get really nailed.  West and north of us the state has had measureable inches.

Tree:  we are acquainted with a family in the "mitten" of Michigan.  In watching their weather, they probably wonder if they will ever see grass again.....

So far what Sir Mud has had has (say that fast 3 x) missed us totally.  We seem to be getting more from N/S Dakota and it swings down thru here and then east.  Oh and while I am on N/S Dakota, heard on the radio that North Dakota is pretty much escaping the "recession, depression, concession, give-away" we are in.

So everyone head for No Dak and throw the earth off its axis!

Well, I made it back from the doctor's office (after sitting there in the waiting room for over two hours).  Then spent an hour in the back, with the dr. visit itself, and getting blood drawn for usual tests.  Everything seems to be going smoothly.

Tom, I sincerely hope you are feeling better this afternoon.  Feeling under the weather is definitely no fun.

You all take care, and I'll be back in a couple of hours or so.

Thanks for all the kind wishes. I think the pink eye is trying to come back and I have a headache from that. I do feel better at present. The house is still cold and that ain't helping my disposition any. The wife left for the morning and I turned the heat up a notch. She came home, turned it down a notch and turned the A/C on...... Plus, every ceiling fan we have is blowing! BRRRRRRRR. Nuff sed

Weather guessers are now talking 14" of snow by noon-ish tomorrow.  I'm glad the snowblower is working.  Since Misty works out of town I told her to stay where she works (hotel) rather than chance driving on black ice.  Lotsa cars are already in the ditches and snow is still falling.

We'll see if CN is busy tomorrow morning in the snow.  Could make for interesting pics and makes me thankful for 4wd.

We had stuff in the Salt Lake Valley today, for the first time in over a month. Out where I live, about six miles west of the center of Salt Lake City, we had maybe an inch, which did not stick except on grass (my backyard is still green, with white spots now). Snowbird (8000') got about nine inches; other ski resorts got less. There was snow up in the hills late last week, but we had only rain. It's about 33 degrees here now; a low of about 25 is expected tomorrow morning, which will make for brisk walking weather for me.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  Really nice temps here this morning:  53 degrees, and supposed to get to the upper 50s today.  Around 10:00 a.m., we're supposed to have some winds come in.  They could be gusting to about 40 mph, along with the rain.  Right now, though, no rain is in our immediate area.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready.  And on the warmer bar this morning:  oatmeal, toast, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, bagels and bear claws.

Tom, I'm glad to hear that you're feeling a tab bit better.

You all have a good morning, and I'll be back later.

Good morning!! 51 and overcast in Carolina this Tuesday morning, and I am feeling better, for a change. My girls woke me up early, allowing that they needed to go out, and it is so different outside that they didn't want back in. Yesterday, it was 26 as I recall, and they nearly knocked the door down getting back in.... Everybody take care and stay warm

21 and not moving much from there with a blizzard wind.  So happy there is no snow.  Leaf dances going on instead.

21 degrees and 11 inches of snow and counting.  Snow should taper off by 6 PM.  I think I'll see what the snowblower can do about the sidewalk.  Catch you all later!  BTW, thanks for the early X-Mas present Mookie!

Up to 34 as I write this - but that's not a good thing.  Rain, possibly freezing, in the forecast, which will undoubtedly cause no end of problems.  When the temperature drops back down, everything will turn into a block of ice...

Pulled out of the driveway this morning and it was immediately obvious that the plows hadn't been through recently (I heard them around 4).  That usually means that school has been delayed (the highway people deny that, but it's too common to think otherwise), but they hadn't.    Neither was work...

I shouldn't, but I'll have a bearclaw...

I see one common occurrence in the reports this morning....Wind.  We too have some here but not that bad.  Warm air from the south is blowing thru here.  45 degrees now and to get to around 50 today.  Rain is also with us this morning but believe that will end sometime this pm or so.....

I've been watching the reports of where the support package for our American auto industry might stand with our Congressional leaders and the White House this morning......Seems a decision might be forthcoming yet today.  Oh what times these are building into....!  Markets seem to be trying to build on any kind of positive news and perhaps have really factored in some of the continuing less than  good news.

No snow remaining here on the ground....What little we had on the grass was washed away with the rain and higher temps this morning.
