Good Sunday morning.  Joe, thank you for fixing breakfast this morning!!  I really do appreciate all the help you guys give me in here.

Joe and Mookie, we've got winds out of the south and west.  They (the winds) are supposed to 10 to 20 mph, and gusting in the 40 mph category.  But, we're 'supposed' to be 'warm' today with temps in the mid to upper 50s.   Only to have sprinkles today.   And for most of next week, rain predicted for everyday, possibly some nasty wintry mix. But for now, temp is 44 degrees outside.  Mookie, want to come to Louisville to warm up?

.....Our weather is very much projected to be similar to what Paula just described for Louisville, just a few degrees cooler.  38 here now and very gusty wind.  Streets are wet and it must have rained a bit during the night.

Wet roads....some wind, we can handle that.  I see all that nasty stuff heading up across the country north of us.  Sounds like real winter.  Wind and snow and cold are a nasty combination to deal with.  Thankfully, it looks like we'll not have to contend with that one.

Jen, I too found the front door on here barred last evening.....I was beginning to wonder....but later it did clear up and the "door" seems to work smooth and easy this morning.

So we can enjoy the "non winter" day it seems to be providing for us.  If we don't get blown off the street and highway leading into town for church.

Good morning everyone (grabs big mug of coffee and a cinnamon roll).

It's supposed to rain today, but right now looking at the Doppler radar map from Weather Underground's web page and I don't see a darn thing! Maybe the rain will arrive later today?

(By the way, we should make a big pot of vegetable beef barley soup today. Dinner )

40 degrees and the ice on the driveway is trying to melt.  Got to get salt down to finish the job today, because the thermometers are packed up and ready to head south.  (High of 14 tomorrow.)

Jay - 60 yesterday and 11 today.  But all of you northerners have the snow to contend with.  We don't and probably won't - or maybe a little only.

CW - I want to go to Houston where my weather indicator sez 68!  You are getting what we had yesterday.  Very windy, but very nice.  Keep your mittens close by.

We are going to brave the cold and go look at some trains.  Hopefully they will warm the air as they go by?  At least they will stop the wind for a few minutes, since we will be on the south side of them.

Afternoon everyone.....

Belated thanks for the birthday wishes, spent my birthday backed into the loading dock of NewPage Paper in Whiting, WI, took them five hours to load 23 rolls of paper, they had computer problemsBanged HeadBanged Head.  Am now 29 years old (really!)

I've been fortunate this week, only times I hit snow was last Sunday around Syracuse, and a touch of freezing rain on Wednesday night in western PA.

Joe:  what do you warehouse, I dont think we have anything going on up that way.  US127 is sometime referred to as Millis highway between Eaton and Hamilton, we run that road a LOT!!

See everyone for dinner.....

Having stood on the platform over the past couple of days as CSX intermodals passed a few feet away at 60 per, I can tell you conclusively that passing trains do not warm the air as they go by.

1400 more happy patrons of the Polar Express while I was working this weekend.

A few dozen customers decided to dine with us for breakfast this AM at the fire department.  The jolly old elf himself paid a visit to the kids in attendance, then set off around the neighborhood delivering some smiles, candy canes, oranges, and apples to area senior citizens.

Photogs from two local papers rode the trains this past weekend.  Will share links when they post them.

Quentin -

Congratulations on the anniversary!

As Mookie said, I've been accepted to four universities. I'll be going to the one closest to home, which is Creighton University right in Omaha. The scholarship is for $14,000, renewable for four years. I also plan on living at home, which will cut several thousand more dollars off the pricetag. Of course, I could always choose to not go to college and just work at Arby's for the rest of my life... Big Smile

Willy!  Knowing you - the Arby's comment was very funny!

Tree:  You are supposed to be in a closed vehicle and a little farther away for the wind effect.  Millie has an air leak around the door handle and my side (the engineers side) always faces north, so any relief is very noticeable.

You have been a busy citizen this weekend.

It is 7, 8 or 9 degrees depending on where you are reading it and with a very gusty wind.  W/o the wind, it wouldn't be too bad.

Off to do haircut on The Driver.  Gotta see if I can cut something beside 1/2 of a  Z in the back of his head.

Well, we here in the Louisville Metro area are now under a Winter StormWarning for this afternoon, tonight and tomorrow morning.  They changed from a Winter Advisary at 5 a.m.  We currently have 57 degrees outside, with light rain showers.  Noon, we'll be down to about 48 degrees, and by 3 p.m., 32 degrees.  With the rain having switched over from light rain to freezing rain/sleet/snow.

How's everyone else this morning, weather-wise?

Coffee, oj,  pineapple juice, hot chocolate, hot cider, and hot water for hot tea are all ready this morning.

On the warmer bar this morning:  bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, scrambled eggs and you have your choice of hash browns or fried taters.

Mookie, I've got your coffee mug down, and I'm ready to pour your coffee, when you get in.

You all have a good morning, stay warm and keep safe.

Mid 40's at the house this morning, with a light rain.  Didn't bother shovelling the snow off the driveway, but it's all gone now.  Still a lot of snow in areas that got a bunch of it, though.

Temps are supposed to drop, but not into single digits AFAIK.  That's a good thing.   Mom arrives from Phoenix Wednesday evening, and she's not exactly used to this stuff any more...

Large tea (need the caffiene!) and a bearclaw, buttered and warmed on the grill, please.

Well CW...my weather station said that it was -4 now.  With windchill we're looking at -21!  It is getting a bit chilly out there.

I'll grab a plate of whatever's hot.

OOOOH, the age old question by one so young. As an expert on this subject, I can only say to make yourself scarce while they are about. They can't stay forever..... I have managed to do that for nearly 40 years now and it seems to have worked. Good luck, son

I see the real cold system has already effected some on the forum this morning.  It is about to put a bunch of cold air thru here too...A little over an hour ago it was 32, and now it's 26.

There has been some moisture overnight and with the temps dropping it has stuff sticking together...Mailbox lid, etc....With the colder temps moving in I suspect we'll not get anymore rain....Moisture might be the little round balls of ice and or a bit of snow later.  Last night, Indy was forecasting no more than a half inch of snow for this general area.

I am still putting off having the winter tires installed on my little S-10 but one of these days I know I will have to have it done.  Do have my special sand bags in behind the wheel wells and that provides a bit more traction but still one needs the more rugged tires when winter gets rough.

Front drive car generally just rests in the garage when we have this stuff...No real reason to take it out.

We've had a total of 3" of snow since Nov. 9th.  Those pic's I've seen from up in the Dakota areas is the real winter stuff and nothing to play around with.  And the terrible ice storm up in NY and New England area....Terrible for those folks.  Believe they are to get some warmer stuff like we had yesterday and that might help with the melting.  Hope so.

.........And since I last posted, we've received about a half hour of the little ice pellets that made the roads white.  But now it is getting very bright and nothing coming out of the sky.  Believe the colder weather is good for us right now to kind of stop the ice forming and "raining" down on us.  So far, we're in pretty good shape.

Edit:  And today is the day when the sun stops setting earlier....One minute later today and heading towards June 21th.

Dan, that is why I like driving semi, when one tires of family, one call to the friendly dispatcher does it all.  Plan this year is to avoid my mothers side completely, fathers side is coming to house for xmas this year.

About 55 and the sun is out in The Rock, am #30 in line on the list for a load out, so will be at least tomorrow before getting a load, but hey, it's nice out......

Q, I thought the first day of winter was the 21st?

Q, I thought the first day of winter was the 21st?

Depends on when the sun touches the Tropic of Capricorn.  That can vary by a day.

According to this site, howerver, Sun., Dec. 21, 2008, 7:04 AM EST (12:04 UT), marks the solstice—the beginning of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and summer in the Southern Hemisphere

Ah!  Must talk fast to cover all this ground.

Q is right - we aren't at the winter solstice, but if I remember from last year - according to the Old Farmers Almanac - the times show that we will start gaining a minute or however it goes.  OFA is different from solstice is where I am going with this.

(if this continues, I won't get through all my thoughts!)

In-laws.....Be there for your spouse.  Keep your mouf shut and just show your pearly whites.  And try to remember that the love of your life is the product of at least one or maybe both of these people, so they can't be 100% bad - altho it do make you wonder sometimes.

Randy - I like your solution.

Sir Chix - we are not quite as cold as you are - we are -3 but very sunny.  You have had more snow and colder temps than we have.  So until it warms up, I am shutting the door at the border.

All you folks east - good luck!  It's coming and it ain't purty.

Driver was going to sleep in a sweatshirt last nite, so I opened the heat vent in the bedroom.  He was snuggly warm and I was pushing blankets off.  I am trying to regulate the temps in the house and two individuals, also.  I need a bigger paycheck!

Thanx for coffee CW.  I was cold and sleepy.  Now I am cold and jittery!  Smile,Wink, & Grin  Will go sit by the stove.
