heading out for another fun weekend trackside. But before I go - I will leave this little missive:
In keeping with the forum rules of posting about trains -
The rain in the plains falls mainly on the trains......
(and hopefully on the rest of the true midwest!)
Everyone stay put until Monday morning.....

Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
Joe, you're more than welcome! As a matter of fact, I've got another round of fish just out of the fryer, along with more hushpuppies, fries, baked beans, corn on the cob, etc., on the warmer bar. And fixed more cole slaw and salads, which are in the cooler.
Joe, the popcorn sounds really good; just wish I could eat some of it, but that is a big no-no. What a bummer.
I think I know the answer to this (don't really remember anyone but him singing it), but we'll make a little "game" of it for tonight:
Who sang the song "Engine Engine # 9"?

Not trying to start a quiz segment here; but who is one of the artists that sang;
"The City of New Orleans" that later died in a plane crash in 1997?

Sir Larry-
Your picture has disappeared. Lots of houses around here are tan or white. 2" of snow last night. Just enough to make driving annoying for those who haven't yet figured out how to do that safely.
Hmmmm - Still there for me. It has updated to a night shot, though. And there are no cars in sight. Wonder why....

Stopped by the Maricopa Live Steamers today after my visit with Mom. Caught them locking the gate, but they assured me they'd be running unless it rains. Probably ought to check the forecast.
Time to raid the cooler for a snack and head for bed. I'm gonna have a heck of a time getting my internal clock readjusted when I get back to NY.

I have not played euchre since I was in the army, 20 years ago. Those were the days!
Happy Groundhog Day, everyone, and thanks for the coffee.
good morning
juice coffee and hot chocolate are ready to go.matthew wanted cinnamon rolls so we made some for breakfast.our snow and ice will continue to melt today.
....Cannonball:
Passing a little info on to you since you were in Muncie in years past. A short time ago, on here....I mentioned how the change is taking place here re: auto industry manufacturing. Well day before yesterday over at the old "Chevrolet complex of manufacturing" {on 8th st.}, the last icon of that organization was toppled.
The 200' smoke stack that had the large letters of "CHEVROLET" Fell to the ground with a blast setting off the motion....It's all gone now...The whole plant, the 1935 Chevrolet transmission plant, is all demolished.
Actually learned that smoke stack goes back further than that to a small plant "Warner Arc Light Co"....and the history of that folds into the beginning of what would become "Warner Gear CO". Now it is quite possible what became Warner Gear and then Borg-Warner Automotive's half mile long plant will be removed some time in 2009....That's the word being circulated. It will close sometime in early 2009. It is the major supplier of F-series and Explorer 4 wheel drive transfer case assy's. Not a happy sight to see this stuff fall to wrecking balls.
Good Saturday morning, everyone! Cannonball, thanks for refreshing my memory. I knew I was missing two or three (at least) people from that list! Randy, and Duff. Maybe we need to issure an APB to find our lost patrons! Even the ones who vanished to the TL, could still come in here once a week or couple of weeks, to say "Hi all", and let us know how they're doing!! We are not an unfriendly bunch here at the Diner!!
Slept in this morning (just woke up an hour ago). Beginning to get my eyes opened, thanks to Joe making the coffee. And Joe, thank you for making breakfast this morning. And tell Matt thank you, for suggesting cinnamon rolls this morning!!
I see that no one has ventured a guess to Mutt's trivia question. I know the answer; but, I'm not going to spoil the fun! Where's everyone's guesses on that one? Maybe Mutt needs to give you more clues?
I know the answer after a little research, and the artist was one of my favorites. We've attended a big concert in downtown CR by this artist many years ago. It surprised me that the City Of New Orleans is in the artist's playlist- now I'll have to go back through my albums and find it!
Oh, and I'll add another big clue if you guys don't mind.

CW, thanks for the fruit juices and all this morning. Eating out tonight and getting more of those sweet barbecued spare ribs, so won't be over later. Take care
Tom, I know the answer, of course; my, as earlier, I'm not going to give it away. I will say that he's one of both Mutt's and my favorite singers; and 10/12/97 is like 9/11 in this household: we'll never forget the day he died.
Here is the SATURDAY NIGHT PIZZA FEST menu:

CW
thanks for the pizza.csx crews aren't having a good night.the dispatcher just told a crew to grab a bite in hicksville.garrett is plugged up real bad.
Brian, like you, this is one of my very favorite artists; and I was lucky enough to be able
to go to one of his concerts here in Louisville in the very late 70s, or early 80s.
This particular song has appeared on at least one other of his albums besides the
R.R. themed one.

John Denver. A lot of artists covered that Steve Goodman song but Denver had one of the best versions.

DING, DING, DING; We Have a WINNER!!
The prize is your choice of a Virtual Dessert from our Virtual Dessert Bar!!
I totally agree that JD's version was about the best one. IIRC he debuted that song on
his album "AERIE" in Feb. of 1972; then it was also put on his "ALL ABOARD" album,
which I believe was released soon after his death in 1997.
(Brian, I still have my ticket stub from that concert, and even know where it is!)
Hey HAM RADIO.... What's your callsign? I am N4TJ.

Good Sunday morning, all. Although I'm not feeling too well this morning. Not sure why, though, but feeling very yucky. So think I'll just take a sausage, for now. Joe, thanks so much for fixing breakfast this morning. Wish I could do it justice this morning.
Ham Radio, to the forums, and the Diner! Glad to have you aboard! And congratulations on answering Mutt's trivia question. Now, to think of another one. Would you like to have a go at it?
Here is our Sunday Dinner menu for today: pork chop abracadbra w/potatoes and onion, creamed sweet peas and carrots, applesauce, and homemade buttermilk biscuits.
You all have a great day, and take care.
