Joe; We saw a glance on the tube where Defiance is either going to freeze or flow down stream. Sure hope this don't affect you folks . The weather guesser was standing " knee deep " in water. Will you get your ice skates or life raft ready for use?   Being from Xenia, this is the kind of weather to expect(minus) tornados.  ~~ Stay warm & dry if possible.  Respectfully, Cannonball

Since very few have been in here lately, there are only two kinds of fish on our Friday Fish Fry menu:  Cod and Perch.  We also have the regular sides of fries, hushpuppies, corn on the cob and cole slaw.  Still plenty of brownies and chocolate cake for dessert.

Joe, how has all this wind and rain affected your area?  Is there a lot of wind and water damage around?

Mookie, and anyone else leaving for the weekend:  hope you have a safe, dry and warm weekend, and take care.

I think I'll grab some perch and perch whilst eating my perch...hehe!

I might actually have time to get trackside this weekend.  We'll see how that goes.

Good afternoon everyone. I'll take the cod, hushpuppies and cole slaw. Dinner [dinner]

By the way, this morning I had SERIOUS troubles with my Internet connection--I couldn't browse many web sites or browsing was extremely slow. Angry [:(!] Fortunately, things are much better now! Smile [:)]

Can someone tell me what "hushpuppies" are?? I've heard that term before, but I am not sure what that is.

I baked a batch of molasses/ sugar cookies this morning and took the whole batch to work with me at Wendy's. I got a lot of "Wow!, these are GOOD!!"  I've been told that I am working in the wrong place and should be working for a bakery. Chef [C=:-)]

Afternoon

cannonball and CW we haven't seen the river this high since the flood of 1982.the maumee river is the main river here in nw ohio. Its where the auglaize comes in at the library thats causes the most problems. This area in ohio used to be called the great black swamp. We had water over our roads for a day but the creek in the woods has gone down back to its regular levels.I really feel bad for those it ottawa and findlay who just got done rebuilding after last summers floods only to get flooded out again.Hey CW we got our donut coupon in the mail today so we can have them in the morning for breakfast.Matt says he'll share.

I'll have some of CW's Cod and hushpuppies thanks!

Ray, hushpuppies are a corn meal and corn flour dough that is deep fried and they are great with butter.

Dan,

That's why they calls em hush puppies! The cooks (mothers) would take little pieces of the fried batter that fell off of of fried fish and such and toss them out the back kitchen door to the barking dogs, and would say "hush up you little puppies"... thus... Hushpuppies...

I wish that I had a puppy that I could say "hush" to. All of my Colorado cousins have told me that I should get myself a dog, and I have been exploring such a possibility. I've been looking at the web site of our local humane society for small to medium sized dogs that have already been house broken. My only problem is that my next-door neighbor has a black lab that constantly barks and it just drives me up the wall. I know it's not the dog's fault. I figure that most of the time he is barking only because he wants some attention, but there have been times I've wanted to put him on a length of rope, take him on a walk to one of our parks on the bike trail and leave him there, tied to a tree. My sister, when I told her this, said that I have some anger issues that I should deal with first before I try getting myself a dog. And I know she's right.

Ryan, that was the first explanation I heard growing up for that term "hushpuppies" ,

The "other" term didn't come along until about high school while I was delivering some

weekly circulars and sale ads; and doing railfanning.

["My Dogs were Barking so loud, I had to get a pair of "Hush Puppies" "]Shock [:O]

Dan, I grew up with cats also, but have had dogs for a few years; and "hushpuppy",

is what our cat says to our dog when she gets too loud!! Wink [;)]

(not exactly in those term!!)Shock [:O]

Ray, we have 2 girls and I love both of them terrifically. One is a Bijon mix and the other is a registered Maltese. The Bijon is a blockhead, tho. She has found a way out/under/over/thru the fence and is making use of it. We chased her for over an hour this morning before she finally gave up, and that was under duress...... As a result, I have put a pad down and she is banned from going out for a while. Hopefully I can find that hole soon. The Maltese is really good and comes back quickly and hardly ever follows the other outside the fence. They are like children and must be loved. Try it, you'll like it

Tom, if she's like our dog, (Huskie/Shepherd mix) she uses her nose to dig out/under.

Ours stays in the house all the time, except for when she needs to go out, definitely

supervised.

Ray, you will enjoy having a companion like that, they really are about the same

as children. (always needing to be spoiled!!)

Good Saturday morning, everyone.  Joe, thanks for getting everything going this morning!  Went to sleep around 10:30 last night, and the next thing I knew:  7:30 this morning.  Guess I needed the extra sleep.

We are due to get some of that stuff  you're getting sometime towards tomorrow morning.  They are definitely saying we'll have very cold temps for tomorrow, w/windchills right around 0.  Guess we'll see when we wake up tomorrow.

You all have a good day, doing whatever you have to do today, and please come back in this evening for Saturday Night Pizza Fest.

Again, I'm having serious web browsing problems. Angry [:(!] It appears that the Domain Name Service server for my ISP is acting up again and hence the reason why I am having very slow web browsing.

When my Sheltie mix was a pup, she quickly found several spots where she could wriggle out under the fence.  Some surreptitious spying helped us find those spots which were quickly blocked with flat stones (a couple of which are still there).  She never took off, though.  We'd put her out the back door (inside the fence) and a little while later she'd show up at the side door (outside the fence).

Well, our Bijon will take off for parts unknown if she gets out. After a while, if nothing happens, she will be back. What really concerns me is US 301/52 are only a couple hundred yards away, and I would really hate for her to get hit. Right now, she is on lockdown until we can find where she is getting out, even if it takes a while

Aside from the fact that she'll take off and you'll have to chase her again - let her out while someone hides and watches.  She'll tip her hand soon enough.  Might take a couple of tries.

Smoking!!!

A major part of my diet for about 40 years. It started with a Kent after a climb up Neversink Mountain to watch trains at Klapperthal in Reading around 1958. I was 12 (and I've always wished I'd be there again, re: Robert Louis Stevenson's character Captain Nares in "The Wrecker") but the exertion and a few puffs made me too dizzy to continue. In Vietnam the people  even rejected the awful Kents as barter. But by then it was Lucky Strikes for me. Luckies always tasted better (LSMFT) than Camels, which were reputed to be factory sweepings.

I changed to Camel Filters in the 80's and today bought a carton with all new graphics. A circle for all you former Luckies people around the daggone Camel. Heresy!!!

OMG, Joe the Camel looked like the human male's (ahem) "apparatus".

I've got a three month supply of nicotine patches 1-through-4 on top my fridge. I'm waiting for the will to use them.

Hope the above doesn't upset your dinner plans.

I remain,

Yers

Larry, a friend is coming over tomorrow, hopefully, and is going to walk the fence line and see what he can find. Hopefully, this can be resolved quickly....

Breyer's chocolate chip and  mint vanilla coming right now. Scrapple-eggs-cheese for breakfast tomorrow. Then it will be beans and sardines for the next two months due to job displacement. B&S sustained me during my son's college days, and for my own time in college it was peanut butter and Welch's grape jelly on toast; PBJ's!!!

Looks like tough times ahead, but like I always say, "to get there you have to be here, and to get here you have to be there."

Any recipes for the penny-pinched?

Good Sunday morning.  Glad to see the ones who came in last evening!!  Joe, thanks for getting everything going this morning.  Really appreciate your help around here.  Either choice sounds good this morning.  I'll fix some cinnamon toast to go with the oatmeal, if you want, and pancakes and sausage sounds good, too.

If anybody needs anything, I'll be in the back, working our Sunday Dinner menu:  going to surprise you as to what we'll have to eat this afternoon.Wink [;)]  Have a good morning, and since the temps will be dropping all day, stay warm, dry and take care!!
