A bowl of steaming hot oatmeal, topped with cinnamon and sugar would be perfect for a cold morning like this. Right now we have 7 degrees below 0 here in Sioux Falls, and our wind chill is at 30 below 0. I wonder if any of the rest of you folks out there have got it colder than this. My sister is going to run me work in about 20 minutes, so I am not going to freeze while walking to work.
I hope the rest of you have a good day, and stay warm!

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!
Sorry for my sanguine tone, but I just fixed a particularly NASTY problem with my Internet connection by switching from my old EarthLink Domain Name Server (essentially, the computer that takes commands from an Internet access program to search for and go to different web sites) to a server from a company called OpenDNS. Not only did it solve my problem, but web surfing is actually faster because OpenDNS servers have multiple servers backing each other up for maximum "up time."
Can I have a preview of tonight's special dinner in celebration?
Sacto, good to hear you got your puter problems solved. Ray, sorry it's so darn cold up your way. We don't have it that bad today. When I woke up this morning, we were at 35, and about 45 minutes later, down to 31. Not sure what the temp and wind chill are right now, though. Haven't looked.
Sunday Dinner today will be: meat loaf, shelly beans w/onion and potatoes cooked together, creamed corn and homemade buttermilk biscuits, white gravy for the biscuits, and applesauce.
Desserts today: apple, cherry and peach cobblers w/vanilla ice ceam.
Everything is now on the warmer bar, so grab a plate, and fill er up!!

I'll take the meatloaf with shelly beans and potatoes right now!
A mild 21 here right now, but breezy, with lake effect warnings for folks to the south of me tonight (1-2' worth). The sun is peeking through a high overcast here.
The wind is apparently having an effect on the highways - numerous cars off the road and a couple of more serious accidents as well. A good day to hang around the house.
Rix - Try mixing the beans with another low-budget staple - mac & cheese. It's no where near as bad as it sounds.

....10.8 and dropping hourly. Never got above 12 plus during the day but started out early this morning at 15 plus something. Up to 40 mph wind with it too. Don't know how strong it is now, but the trees are moving around quite a bit. Sky is clear.

Good Monday morning, everyone! Hope you are all toasty warm this morning. We are currently at 15 degrees, but I think, with the wind chill, they're saying it feels like single digits out.
Got plenty of coffee, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot tea for everyone this morning. Also plenty of oj, oj/tangerine, grapefruit juice, apple juice, whatever kind of juice you'd like this morning.
On the warmer bar: turkey bacon, sausage, sausage gravy, homemade buttermilk biscuits, oatmeal, toast, hash browns, tater tots, scrambled eggs. Plenty to warm your insides, and fill you up for the outside weather.
You all take care, have a great Monday morning, and stay warm and safe!!
This is the start of the game - Here/not here.....will be gone this morning - back this afternoon. Nose buried in work. Take care all - will check in periodically.

cold but a beautiful sunrise this morning.calling for some snow this evening.Cw thanks for breakfast.stay warm
It's pretty cold here in Sioux Falls, right now we have a temp of 1 degree above 0, and the wind chill here is at 18 below 0. The weather conditions here were about the same yesterday.
I knew I was coming down with something when I left work yesterday afternoon, and now I know I have a full blown resperatory infection. My head sure hurts. I am going to try to see my doctor within the next couple days, I know that I am not going to get rid of this crap in my system without an antibiotic prescribed for me. I just took 2 tablets of Tylenol for what good it would do me. Now I need to call my employer and let her know I will not be coming to work.
Ray, hope you get in to see your doctor, and get some medicine. Have had upper respiratory infections, and they are not fun, at all! Whenever I had one, along with an antibiotic, I was on muscle relaxers at the same time.
Lunch and supper menu today: leftover meat loaf and trimmings from yesterday, along with a big pot of beef stew and cornbread. Joe, Lance, and anyone else who wants, fix yourself some containers to take home/to work tonight.
You all take care, and have a good, warm afternoon.
Our High Temp yesterday was -3 with w/c of -37. Started this morning at -12 with w/c of -40. Currently we're at 0 with w/c of -10. Time to break out the summer stuff!
I'll take a plate of whatever's hot.
CN sure put on a show yesterday. I saw units from UP (ex-CNW and ex-SSW), BNSF, WC, GTW, plus the 'regular' CN stuff. Nice to see some color on the rails. Now if I could only get more ex-CNW stuff up here that'd be great!
.....Heat wave. Much better than yesterday, with that pesky wind. 7 degrees early this morning and it just turned over to 19 degrees now. No wind, that really makes a difference when we're talking cold temps. No snow yet, but we're expecting some over night up until tomorrow afternoon. Very brief sunshine today...mostly overcast.
Cw
thanks for supper.as far as the snow goes each day we get closer to spring.the water has slowed going down here in defiance but at least its going down.
Joe
We are currently getting snow. It started about 4 p.m., and just after 5, Mutt and I went out to sweep the steps and sidewalk, and put down ice melt. Yes, Joe, spring is just about month, month & a half away. Can hardly wait!! I know we've not had the snow, ice and sub zero temps, but I am ready for spring, and warmer weather.
Got more beef stew and cornbread out on the warmer bar for supper tonight. Or a late lunch for those on the west coast! And I've also got some hot chocolate ready, along with some hot cider and hot tea, as well as hot coffee. (Sorry guys: no hot toddies allowed in here!)
Joe and Lance, got containers ready and in the fridge, with your names on them for work tonight. Hope you both can get back in to pick them up!! Everyone stay warm, and take care tonight!!
Ray - Take care of that! I'm still recovering from a week in arid Arizona. My boss even noticed today, and when I told him why, he said his girlfriend had the same thing happen when she visited Arizona a few weeks ago.
Still snowing to the south of me, but it's just cold here - just under 8 degrees as I write this. The wind has subsided, though. I was on a airfield today and it was simply brutal.
Of course, we have a winter storm watch for tomorrow. Keeps life interesting. People who live in more temperate climes don't always understand the appeal of living here.
In the summer, we look forward to the cooler days and beautiful colors of fall.
In the fall, we look forward to the blanket of snow, winter sports, and cuddling up under a warm blanket with a good book or movie.
In the winter, we look forward to warmer weather and the end of all that danged snow.
In the spring we look forward to the greenery, warm weather, flowers, and the end of the mud.
Go back to "in the summer..."
Tree - I am going to print and cut and post on my desk! I didn't know you lived in Nebraska, and Brian didn't know you lived in Iowa! Now I have to include Northern New York in the True Midwest?
And are you sure you got it in AZ and not just on the plane? You should probably put a plastic bag over your head if you are going to fly......
They should box our seminar and sell it as something to stand on in a flood - it is dry. Won't go for the afternoon session today - they don't need my input quite yet. Will send my assistant in my place. After all, I taught her everything I know (almost) and she will be the future of the department. So she can do the prep work for me.
Next week will be another story.
So to celebrate - I am going to have CW make me some chicken and spinach and swiss crepes with holly sauce.....yum.....it's virtual - she can make anything!
Meantime coffee and glad to see so many of us back in our places.
Oh and - we have had two sinus infections right here at this desk - my co-worker/friend Kim and myself - and we didn't even to fly or sniff different air. It is something horrible going around (kind of like an election) and it takes 3 weeks to recover, so relax and rest!
Good Tuesday morning, all. Well, our temp is anywhere between 30 and 32 degrees F, with freezing rain. Haven't heard the exact snow total, but from what I can see out our front door, it looks to be about 3 to 5 inches. Haven't gotten out with a yard stick this morning yet, to measure.
All the schools around the Metro area are closed, along with some businesses. And other businesses are opening 2 or 3 hours late this morning.
Plenty of hot beverages are ready: coffee, cider, tea, hot chocolate. And I've made some fresh oj and oj/tangerine this morning. On the warmer bar: oatmeal, pancakes & sausages, scrambled eggs, toast, bagels and bear claws.
You all stay warm, dry, and take care. See you after awhile. OH: do I have any meal requests for today? If so, speak up!!
Miz Mook - Anything I caught on the plane wouldn't have kicked in for a few days - I was stuffed up almost from the moment I landed at Skyharbor. That's not to say that I didn't catch something on the plane, but that was secondary.
Of course, it's pretty dry here right now - minus 17 overnight - but the house and work both have humidifiers (big-un's at work).
The cold temps were probably responsible for a house fire this morning - completely afire when first units arrived, along with reports of someone possibly still in the house. So far it appears that no one was inside, but the place is a total loss and fireground operations are no fun in this weather. Everything freezes. At least the wind isn't blowing, although a gentle breeze carried the smoke for miles.
larry 2 friends of mine had a house fire that they had to deal with yesterday.the people even had a couch in front of the front door!!! good thing no one was home when it started.we had a little snow overnight but not too bad.the birds were happy to see us this morning.filled up the feeders.Cw thanks for breakfast.
Good Morning Everyone.
My first time to reply to this group. I see everyone is depressed by their local weather. Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news but was working in my garden yesterday getting it all cleaned up for spring planting in a couple of weeks. Temp here yesterday in the sixties and the next seven are more of the same. Will just have to sit here with my second cup of coffee and remember the old days when I lived in those frigid temps.

Well, went out to check (just around the porch steps), have about a half inch if ice, and one branch/limb out of the pine tree in the front yard. Total amount of snow looks to be about 3 1/2 inches of snow over the half inch of ice. Very glad to see that no one has shown up for Tuesday Produce, cause I ain't doing it today!! I don't feel like falling on my behind!
Passengerfan, to the Diner and Coffee Shop! Hope you come in often to visit.

We have only extreme weather here in the true midwest: 9 degrees is winter and dry as a bone and 109 in summer with humidity higher than the temp. 1 day each for spring and fall. Gosh what more could you ask for - all that variety!
