Good morning everybody. Cw, that is exactly what I wanted for breakfast, Thanks. I hope your place didn't have any damage from that storm. Sounds like the balloon really went up in your area. Be blessed

I'll check in from time to time if the airports have wireless.

Tree, hope you do have a very safe flight; and hope the wind has tappered off some,

if not, you may be going East instead of towards the West.

We had gusts here last night from 60 to 70 mph pretty much blowing west to east.

(I think they start measuring hurricanes at 72 mph)

Hope everyone makes it safe through the winds and rains heading easterly. Winds are gusting to 30-40 here, and rain passed through, sunny now!

Breakfast looks good, I'll have some of that on the bar, thanks CW!

Check in later!

Mutt - we had the wind and around 5 pm it just stopped - dead in its tracks.  Then early this morning - we started up again - but not as bad.  Still brisk and still headed east!

All the college students are whining that they have to go to class today because it's "too cold to do anything".  Wow...welcome to the real (working) world...Banged Head [banghead]

It's actually pretty nice outside, especially if you're out of the wind!  I just had to pick my folks up as both of their cars wouldn't start.  Today is a day that I'll heartily thank the brave folks that work for the PD, FD, tow trucks, & RRs.  Thanks for all you do!

....Wind....and more wind was the order of the evening and night, last night.  Bad stuff passed thru most of Indiana.  A front, narrow in width passed across most of the state during the evening and later night hours.  Damage in some areas....Quite a bit of it.  Really don't know the extent of it all yet.  Reports of up to 82 mph wind and yes, Walt they were comparing it to number one hurricane winds, which I believe starts around 74 mph.

Here, we had our share of wind when the front ripped past us...albeit short lived....The leading edge was traveling about 50 mph and was quite narrow.  Some rain with it.  Really don't know just how strong it hit this area when it passed yet.  From experience, I'd say it was 50 or 60 mph for some of it.

But we lucked out....again...!  No damage right here.

Temp here early evening was 52 degrees and later after the front passed it was in the 20's and when I went to bed it had fallen into the mid teens...!  9.3 this morning.  Now....The sun is shining bright and it's up to about 12.  Some wind is still blowing.  Haven't been out for the paper yet to feel just how much.

Edit:  Now I have....and just a moderate amount of wind is producing bone chilling cold.  Even with the sunshine.

Another update:  Hearing now of some deaths from the storm here in Indiana.

Mookie, got your message, and I'll definitely save Larry's bear claws for you.  (Maybe we'll devide them between us:  they are really good, aren't they?)

Glad I had someone watching the soup, chili and stew pots on the stove this morning:  went for a nap, and slept three hours!!  So, lunch today is not burned up!!  Laugh [(-D]Blush [:I]  But everything is ladled up, and on the warmer bar.  There's plenty of cornbread and corn fritters to go with the stew, and plenty of crackers for the soup and chili (if you take crackers in your chili).

Dan, maybe you start a side line business of transporting people whose vehicles won't start!!  You could earn extra money for the honeymoon, etc.!Wink [;)]Tongue [:P]

Everyone:  have a great afternoon, and STAY WARM!!

Way ahead of ya CW.  I had stationary and business cards printed up last year.  I try not to do too much of that but if someone really needs help I won't refuse 'em.

After an 'entertaining' drive through frozen slush while dealing with high crosswinds, I arrived at the airport in plenty of time only to find the flight delayed due to a maintenance issue at another airport - the airplane wasn't even here yet.  Eventually it turns out they couldn't get the part, so the flight was cancelled.  Get in line, get rescheduled.  Now my arrival in Phoenix is 10:05 instead of 7:30.  Gonna be a long day.  At least I only have to change planes once now.

But I do have projects to work on, and the airport does have free wireless...

Finally got to Phoenix.  The rental car facility (which you have to take a special bus to) is as big as some airport terminals I've been in...

Found out I could use my GPS on the plane.  Chicago wasn't hard to pick out in the dark, though.  Passed a few miles north of Rochelle, just about over Clinton, then turned a bit south - we crossed into Kansas due south of Lincoln at about 9:30.   Too far away to wave, and I was on the wrong side of the plane anyhow.

Time for some serious sleeping.  My computer tells me it's 3:30 AM!

A balmy 46 as I arrived at my lodgings for the week...

Good Thursday morning, everyone.  Larry, glad to hear you finally made it to Phoenix!!

Well, it's now been confirmed:  we had a tornado come through here Tuesday night.  Went from the U of L Belknap campus (around the area where the old L&N shops used to be, that is now Cardinal Stadium), and went to the eastern part of the Louisville Metro area.  About 15,000 people are still without power, and the crews are working around the clock.  Mutt went outside yesterday, and walked across the street, so he could check out our roof.  Everything looks o.k.!  We are both very glad that we had that old oak tree cut down last year.  We probably would have a big hole in our roof, if it were still standing out back!!

Coffee, juice, hot chocolate, hot tea and hot cider are all ready.  On the  warmer bar this morning:  bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs ( or however you want them fixed this morning), homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, and home-fried potatoes, bagels and bear claws.

You all have a good morning, stay warm and take care out there!!

CW/Mutt 1 - wind 0.

Tree - thanx for info.  As soon as I get a home puter, I will drive to the airport and set it up there - save charges on service!  Cool [8D]

January blahs.  Filed all my taxes yesterday.  As some wise person on here said - gather all your money, fill out the form, write the check for the total amount you have and mail it.  Now the paper sez gasoline will go to $3.50, our electricity will go up by as much as 4%, all prescriptions have gone up.  Paycheck stayed the same.

I will have a glass of Merlot to go with my cheese, thank you!  (somehow having milk with cheese just doesn't whine quite right!)

CW, I'm glad to hear that neither you nor Mutt nor Sarah were hurt in that tornado that touched down in the Louisville area, and that your home did not suffer any real damage. I don't like to see anyone get hurt in storms like this.

Right now we have 1 below 0 here in Sioux Falls and the wind chill is at 14 below 0. We had gotten just a trace of snow here yesterday afternoon. I'm going to armor up shortly for the trek to my neighborhood grocery store for a half a gallon of orange juice, I'm not really looking forward to stepping out into the cold, but I guess I've got to do it if I want or need certain things.

I taught my sister how to bake bread yesterday and she made the suggestion that I apply for work at our local Breadsmith store......so I am looking at making the trek out there later this afternoon.

I think I'll grab a cup of hot chocolate while I'm here.

I hope the rest of you have a good day, stay warm, and above all, stay safe!

Good morning yall. 36 in Carolina this morning. It's only supposed to reach 53 today with rain tonight. CW, I am relieved to know you and Mutt made it through the tornado OK and no property damage, On July 3, 1977, we had a twister come through the front yard, It got a number of pines and got my wireless tower, but no injuries, thankfully. I think I would like some scrambled eggs and some fruit juice if you please. Larry, enjoy your stay in balmy Az. Beware, the weather can become infectious.... Take care

Tom

Hey Tree, that is neat to know about the GPS in the airplane! We are taking one with us on an upcoming trip and I was wondering if it would work 10,000-30,000 feet up!

Breakfast looks like another winner CW, thanks! Scrambled eggs, sausage and biscuts sounds like a plan!

It's not a transmitter and probably has less RF emissions than a laptop, so no big deal.

Even though the satellites are "up," you're inside a big shield, so you have to hold it right up to the window.  We spent most of the trip at 35,200 feet doing about 450 mph.

Mookie, here's what I have to say about her:  1.  They need to lock her in a padded room, and throw away the key!!  2. She does not need to see her two little boys at all!!  She's way too far out of it, to be any kind of a good influence on them.  As far as her initials go, I had never thought that much about it, but you are so right!!!!!!!Evil [}:)] Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I have warmed up the beef stew and chili, and made fresh cornbread for the stew.

Going to go take my walk now;  and speaking of walking, Brian, how's Joanie doing?!?!

Actually, the GPS satellites do not hang around just the equator, they're all over the place orbitally.  As long as he gets a good link to just three satellites (out of 32, IIRC), the receiver will work.

My handheld GPS works (except in Dash 8). I say "Oh, so that's what (name of river) looks like from the air." Or, "That's the UP."
