Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes. Dan I don't usually listen to my iPOd with headphones, I usually plug it in to my boombox, or listen to it in the car. iTunes has a thing about being a memory hog so I don't run it while using my computer for other things.
Mutt, yeah, fortunately my iPod does have battery life, while I have to charge it back to life, I get to do other things around the house. Baby aways comes first though, have to put down the iPod, laptop, or magazine for her at all times, not that I have a problem with that.
Glad everyone enjoyed the cake, it was way too much of a good thing, and the first one is about 2/3 whole.
Think I will have me some enchiladas, with lots of salsa. With raspberry tea...mmmmm
Well, I finally made it in today! After therapy, and doctor's office, I came home, took a pain pill, and went to bed for an hour and a half.
a day late Duff!! Sorry I didn't know yesterday was your birthday. We would have had a big ole party here in the Diner! And thanks for bringing in and sharing your birthday cake!
Who do I have to thank for putting out our TUESDAY MEXICAN FIESTA? Whomever did it, thank you so very much.
Therapy went well, and so did the doctor's appointment. He's very pleased with my progress, and I don't have to go back to him until after Christmas (Dec. 27th).
Crossed over several railroad tracks coming home this afternoon: only problem was, didn't see any trains Guess that's all my news for today, so everyone have a great evening, and take care!
Dan

Duff, Happy Belated Birthday ; that's another one that wasn't on our
calendar, but will be now.
Don't have too much fun with the iPod, and forget to do other things!
Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!
Duff, Happy Belated Birthday and thanks for the cake! Enjoy the iPod and let me know what you think. I'm campaigning for one for Xmas.

Celebrated my birthday yesterday and I am feeling considerably generous. So I will let you all have the second cake John baked for me. Had fun, even if it rained and it was cold. saw a movie, bought a new gadget,(iPod touch) and ate a huge steak dinner from Longhorn. Life can't get any better than that.
If I don't make it in tomorrow, happy Halloween. Those Snickers bars in the cabinet are calling my name but I can't touch them until after Halloween
Dan, you and Jim Davis need to get together for ideas...maybe he could show Garfield
dropping a cinder block on a spider instead of using the fly swatter or rolled up newspaper.
And you'll have to help yourself from the warmer bar, not sure what's out and CW
has gone to physical therapy, and after that to a Drs. appointment.
Mook, if you hurry, you might be able to grab the beagle's leash and have that.

If given the choice of being bitten either by a black widow or brown recluse, I will take my chances with the black widow as the antidote for her venom is more readily available. Plus, I've seen pictures of what a bite from a brown recluse can do to one's skin, leaving open, ulcer like sores that are quite ugly. A friend of mine, Dr. Keith Perkins who teaches biology for the University of Sioux Falls, maintains a collection of spiders preserved in alcohol, and I should ask him if he has a specimen of brown recluse in his collection.RayCANADIANPACIFIC2816

Yep Ray, it was definately a Brown Recluse. We're a bit north of where they 'typically' are but they're not unheard of. It was identified at a distance and had a 18 lb cinderblock dropped on it. Further inspection showed a brown glob that was a spider.
CW I'll grab a warm plate of whatever you've got...HUNGRY AND COLD!

good morning
not as frosty as yesterday morning but cool.going to be a nice afternoon.heres some coffee and some juice.mookie your beagle went for a walk.working on my calendar for next year. Ihave some top picks this year but still have some decisions to make.
Well, the warmer bar has been emptied, and the food is now in the fridge. If anyone wants anything, just grab a plate, and your utensils, fill your plate, and zap it in the microwave. Now cleaning up the warmer bar, so it's ready for tomorrow morning.
Not sure I'd want to be bitten by either the black widow or brown recluse! Be my luck, I'd be highly allergic to it.
Well, I've warmed up the leftovers from the lunch menu for supper, and it's back on the warmer bar. Went to the YMCA this afternoon, and went in the whirlpool. That really made my knee feel good.
Everyone have a nice evening, and enjoy your supper. Will come back in around 9, and clear the warmer bar, and clean up.

No, Mookie. Any use of profanity in this forum would probably have gotten me into some trouble with the forum administrators. I know that I have stepped over the line a couple times with some things that I've said. I'm just trying to use a little caution while posting anything so that I don't end up having others upset with me, and so that I don't end up losing what ever respect they have for me.

One of these days, probably after I retire in nine years, I want to do what a fellow church member is currently doing and hit every tourist railroad in the country. When that happens, you'll be near the top of the list.

By golly, you're right! Old age....
You're more than welcome here (as is everyone else). Like I said, just make sure I know when you're coming so I can schedule myself accordingly.

Well, I wouldn't mind seeing snow flurries: it's when flurries accumulate to 3, 4 inches, and you have freeze -your -behind -off temps that I'm definitely not looking forward to!
On today's lunch menu: meat loaf w/mashed taters & gravy, shelly beans, and beef noodles w/beef gravy (both left from Sunday Dinner yesterday), along with cole slaw and garden salad and cinnamon flavored applesauce.
The sun is shining nicely this afternoon, but the breeze is very cool. Definitely need at least a fleece jacket when going outside. And Mookie, our next chance of rain here, is this coming Sunday, with a 20% chance.

I'd love to have MC come up and visit the railroad! For that matter, any of our forum family! Let me know ahead of time and I can see if I can arrange any special treats for you. Of course, you'll have to wait until next year - the regular season is over.
One of our volunteers found this:

At the present moment it's 39 degrees here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I am enjoying the fall weather here and the cooler temperatures sure make for nice sleeping. But I am with Mookie and a few others........I kind of dread the coming of winter. I don't mind more than a few inches of snow as long as I don't have to shovel it. The one thing that I really hate though is freezing rain.
I look forward to freezing temperatures as it means fewer bugs to have to put up with. In one work shift at Wendy's a few weeks ago I killed more than 20 flies. They come in through both the drive-up window and the delivery entrance and health department regulations will not permit us to spray the little b******s until after we have closed the store for the night.
It's supposed to warm up to about 68 degrees here this afternoon, so it looks like we are in for a fairly nice day. Well, I hope the rest of you out there have a good day!
Having said that - I am with Quentin - NO SNOW! NO ICE! and no extremely cold weather would be nice. Just enough to get rid of the bug/pests.
....Boy, don't want to see any of that snow yet as Tree mentions. 39 degrees here as I write. 33 plus, when I first looked earlier. Sunshine now {and to be most of the week}, and believe we're to see into the 60's today. That is quite a rise as the normal temp increase from the early morning generally is about 20 degrees.
Plenty of frost here this morning, but it doesn't last long when that sun gets to it.

As we were wrapping up our regular season yesterday, and getting the cars read for some colder weather, there were snowflakes flitting around us...
Several of us took a little excursion Sunday morning, looking for a "legendary" boiler that still sits a hundred yards off the tracks at a place called Onekio. After a phone call (from the woods) to a friend who knew where it was, we found it - an old stationary boiler, in pretty rough shape. Looks like someone was trying to salvage it at one time - a lot of the rivets have been removed.
The trip ended up providing more questions than answers, though. A culvert under our tracks near the boiler was nicely built of cut stone, with used rail set side by side making up the top. The culvert probably dates to the construction of the railroad (1892), making that rail pretty old.
We also found the siding at Onekio, but didn't trace it out to the end - a major question for a later visit. It was very steep - must have been a challenge for the steamers of the day. We can only wonder how the bridge was constructed on the siding across the little creek that runs through the culvert. It's long gone, and there were no permanent footings.
There are also reports of foundations in the area, but we didn't find any of those, either...
Time for tea.
morning
yep had to scrape the windows this morning before heading home.mookie
will keep an eye out for the greenie locomotives.it looked like ns was doing some track work in archbold this morning.don't know if it was a bad spot or not or if they were just checking. going to wait for the yard to dry off. this afternoon it will be leaf raking and mowing time.
Yes, I noticed Jay's back also, Mookie!! Maybe he'll drop in for a few, and say "Hi" to all of us! How was your weekend, Mooks? Bet you saw a lot of action at your railfanning site over the weekend.
