Good Monday morning, everyone!  Been a little hectic around here this morning, so just now getting in here.  Joe, thanks for putting the coffee on, making the juice, and the cinnamon rolls.  We've got off and on rain this morning, and like you, Joe, they're saying we may see some snow flurries or snow showers over the weekend.  Not too sure about accumulation yet.

Welcome back to all who were gone for the looonng weekend!  Glad to have you back!!

Here are the choices for Sunday Dinner:

1.  Beef stew w/cornbread
2.  French onion soup
3.  Hamburgers/cheeseburgers w/sauteed onion, and homemade tarter sauce and fries

There is also some pizza left from last night.  It's also on the warmer bar, with everything else.

Had a few sprinkles earlier, but not doing anything out right now.  If I recall correctly, the majority of the rain is supposed to come into our area around 4 p.m., or so, and might even have a little bit of thunder & lightning.

Interesting morning here in Omaha as well.

BNSF had a train stall out on their tracks through Omaha. The BNSF has a fairly decent hill in Omaha and I've heard a few trains that sounded like they were about to stall, but this was the first one that I've actully seen it happen to. He had two SD40-2s (one in green BN paint and one in CN paint) and he was just barely sputtering along with the throttle in notch 8 as he approached a grade crossing and finally came to a stop right on the crossing. The engineer reduced the throttle and backed off the grade crossing to let automobile traffic through.

They had about 15 intermodal cars on the front and then a long string of autoracks. I believe the two lead units took the intermodal cars on their way to Lincoln and left the autoracks on the mainline for some rescue engines to pick up later. This line only sees a few trains each day, so I think they figured it wouldn't hurt too much to leave part of the train right on the mainline for a little while. In fact, I just heard a train go by, so they must have gotten things cleared out.

Anyway, just thought I'd share that story. This sure isn't mountain railroading here in Omaha, but it has its moments.

Given it's so cold in much of the country now, can we have big pot of hot beef stew with cornbread for Sunday Dinner? And include a big pot of hot French onion soup, too? Dinner [dinner]

No pizza for me tonight - too many munchies at the baby shower.  Had a good time, and got to meet all of the DIL's side of the family.

After the festivities I availed myself of something I discovered on the web - the Connecticut Trolley Museum.  Got two trolley rides (about 1.5 miles each) - one in an open car, which was brisk, to say the least.  They're having their holiday event through the end of the year, nearly every evening, 5-9.  A real jewel.

Driving back to Northern NY tomorrow.  Better get my rest....

Anyway, it's going to be another cold night here in Sacramento, CA. I need to make more warm beverages like hot chocolate and hot tea.

Chilly, clear, and a bit breezy here in CT this morning.  I'm not complaining.

Just reminded myself of a TV weather forecaster in Detroit some years ago - he'd combine two words from the forecast and write the new word across the Michigan shaped chalkboard.  In this case - "CHEEZY."  Big Smile [:D]

....Wow, 30 degrees in S C and Louisville......and Muncie.  Must be a wide spread weather pattern.  Partly sunny.  To be dry today.  Believe it's headed to the upper 40's here.  Guess I can live with that.

Everyone have a good weekend.

Good morning Americans, it's Saturday! 30 degrees and clear in Carolina. It's a big day here in SC because it's the day when USC usually whomps Clemson. Records, stats and the like are discarded, and this is THE season for both teams. Hot oatmeal with walnuts and dates is the order of the day here and then its a few hours on the wireless. Have a great day.

CW : drivin' on snow at best is not a good thing to do . We went to Grand  Junction to see dotter Barb . When we went to Glenwood Springs , we saw Amtrak engines 73 & 174 east bound at Grizzly creek at 1:15 Thurs. That road bed is built right on the edge of Glenwood Canyon where the Colorado river flows for bout 10 miles .Also coming home today,we had to wait in Montacello Utah for plows to come thru to Blandings . The snow flakes were big as chicken feathers, well almost. when we hit I 40 west , saw 3T.O.F.C. trains east bound and 4 auto trains eastbound between Chambers & Flagstaff Az. It was a great week end for us all around. Even with the snow. Thanks for the card, cool. Cannonball

HI everyone how is we all doing this fine day. Fine and dandy i do hope it's been a while since. I have been in the diner. I have been busy with work and all kinds of other stuff but any way hope everyone had a good thanksgiving and a great start into the holiday season. Hope everyone has a great night and good rest of the weekend before we all got to go back to work on monday. Except me that I have to work tomorrow night and sunday. Tomorrow night I have a bar hop and on sunday I have a holiday parade. Also I have to get use to the cold weather that has finally descended upon wisconsin as of 7:15 Pm the temp is a balmy 28F. And we have had our first measurable snow fall already. It wasn't much but it did cover the grass. But anywho that's bout it from this end hope everyone has a good nite and I'll be talkin to you all later.

We did not join the bargain hunters early this morning- instead we slept in and then headed up to the Mall Of America, which actually wasn't too bad today.  Found a parking spot in the east ramp real close to the fourth floor entrance.  There were lots of people there, but no worse than usual for that place- after about five hours we decided that we'd had enough and came back to my folks place.  Headed back to Iowa tomorrow...

The rest of the Thanksgiving leftovers from last night are on the warmer bar, and the pumpkins pies that Duff brought in, are on the counter with the rest of the desserts from yesterday.

Dan, I don't envy you being in that mess this morning!  While I was in retail, I always thought those people were CRAZY!!  (And my opinion hasn't changed, after all these years!)

Hope everyone enjoys their supper, and have a great evening!!

Fiancee's car wouldn't start so off we went.  Drove north on US41 past Neenah.  Saw Kohls at 3:40 AM.  I'm guessing there was at least 1500-2000 people in line.  It got worse!  We got to Appleton around 4:15 and tried to find her cousins near Target.  The lot was full and people were lining up on the highway to get to the lot.  We decided to go to Home Depot (DeWalt 18v cordless drill/2 batts/charger -> $96!  Cheaper than $210 so why not?) so I could use up a gift card from my birthday back in October.  Anyway...we were the 3rd/4th person at that store.  By 5:15 there was ~350+ behind us.  Some folks got pretty rowdy.  One fight even broke out there.  One of her cousins called us from Menards.  Apparently there was a fight there too, but much more one sided.  Someone cut in line and the people in line complained to store staff.  Store staff asked the cutter to go to the back and was told where to stick that idea.  Another customer then said the same thing and the cutter took a swing at the guy.  He missed.  The guy in line didn't.  The cutter was knocked out cold!  All this for material things...the holiday isn't about that stuff...but I'll stay off the Lava Box...

Anyway...after we got my DeWalt (named after you Mutt?  LOL) we decided to try and find my fiancee's cousin at Target near the Mall.  We found her and Misty got out to ride with her as I had to work at 8 this morning.  On the way out of the lot I witnessed a 4 car pileup happen.  Two were racing towards a parking spot and two were tailgating the two racing to the spot!  Not good, but nobody hurt.

Next year I'll just stay home and sleep....

Dan, No, DeWalt is not named after me. It would be nice; maybe get some free tools, or

royalties from the sales thereof. Most of mine I get through the HCOA, they're named

"Toughtest" and are quite comparable to all the other brands. (a bit cheaper in price,

to club members.)

There have been reports of several fights breaking out around here also while people

were standing in line that early. I like to save money and get good deals also, but that

early in the morning, I'd rather be asleep.....do my shopping later when the crowd thins

out.

It is sad that people physically fight over material things that will soon be broken and gone. The line cutter that was mentioned earlier was brazen and got what he deserved, but in fact, he is symptomatic of the way things are going. It is prophesied, indeed that "As it was in the days of Noah, so shall the coming of the SON OF MAN be."

I have a couple extra pumpkin pies here to share, since we probably won't get around to eating them all. Don't want them to go to waste, so enjoy all. JUst make sure the Redi Whip is fresh
