I'm back (like you missed me-HA!) from a successful weekend in the woods.  Freezer's full again!  I'll grab whatever's hot and lurk for a while.

....Just attended an annual Thanksgiving lunch get together in the BWA Experimental Lab here in Muncie....My employment for 37 years.

This one was a bit difficult as it will be our last.

BWA decided, after 105 years.....To move operations.  Seems some will be done in NY and possibly some in Mexico.  Sound familiar.....

It's a bit hard to take driving past the half mile long plant knowing that sometime in 2009 operations here will cease.

Have been retired from it now 14 years....but still the thought of that happening is a bit difficult to take.  Too much of similar happenings all over America is occurring.

For Thanksgiving, I'm thankful I made it all the way through but sorry for employees who will not.  {For retirement}.

Much of the power train product used in F-150 4 by 4's is made here and some GM units too.  Many different power train products have been developed and manufactured here over the many years of operation.

Mookie, hope you and Driver have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and weekend!! Like your story, too!

Raining here now, though it seems to be a very light rain, so far.  Supposedly, we even have a slight chance of  severe storms.

Catch you all on the flip side!!

I am practicing being Amtrak II - a little late, but breezing through anyway.

Had breakfast with the Driver this morning - he is off today and taking Millie into the car doctor.  Fine tuning her for winter.

Had a funny from the Omaha news last nite.  They were showing an open, empty boxcar on the UP tracks and a layout next to it of frozen turkey, veggies, yams, etc.  The story was how items are shipped by rail, monitored all the way and can even be sent frozen to their destination.  Very nicely done.

Then the camera panned to the r-o-w and showed about 4-5 wild turkeys watching all this take place.  It was a hoot!

So with that I am off to work - and leaving a wish for a Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.  See you next week.

Mookie

Good morning everyone (grabs big mug of hot coffee and a couple of bear claws).

I picked up the Honeybaked Ham yesterday and will deliver it to my cousin's house for Thanksgiving tomorrow. We don't eat turkey in our family. Smile [:)]

CW, thanks for the wishes, and the same to you. I"ll have a couple of danishes, if you please, and some hot chocolate. Not much on tap for turkey day, my folks have mostly died out and my wife only has a sister who lives away, so I guess we are on our own, and will celebrate with our 4 legged children. 53 degrees and clear, same for tomorrow, Man, we need the rain in the southeast. All the best for a happy holiday to all.

Getting ready to go get our Thanksgiving Dinner fixings.  So decided to come in an hour early, and post supper.  Continuing our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta,  with everything refreshed on the warmer bar:  burritos (beef & beef/bean), tacos, Spanish rice, tamales, enchiladas, quasadillas, etc., are now available.

Rain coming in for tomorrow, then Thursday, snow showers.  Temps Thursday won't make it above low to mid 40s.  Looks like winter may be coming early to our neck of the woods!!

Joe and Lance (and anyone else who needs it) containers are made up and in the fridge.

...............But, I'm my own landlord.  I don't even have any trees that produce leaves {on purpose}....All evergreens.  But the combination of west wind and neighbor to the west....produce leaves.

Not really too bad this year and the yard is clear now.  I set on the middle of two lots and I have a bit of space for them to collect, but I've been keeping after them.  Only bagged 3 bags and controlled the rest by John Deere and the mulching mower, which I just finished doing again.  West side trees are just about bare now, so believe we've won the game.

As long as I can get to CT and back Okay.  Baby shower for the the newest member of the family (due in March, as you'll recall) on Saturday, which means I'll be on the road on Friday and Sunday.

Might get some trainwatching in, too....

Q - get a nice landlord and he will pick up all your leaves for you!  Even blew them out of the garage!  Boy, you just don't find good help like that any more.

You just wait - the west is going to send the pseudo-midwest some interesting weather!

.....Now remember J, you're out in the plains....beyond the mid west....ha.  Now I'm headed outside to mow and mulch some of the remaining leaves.  Temp. now:  61.

Joe, fortunately, they did not come to the door.  I looked out the window, and saw them parked out there.  Pitch dark, 6 a.m., and around here, that's asking for trouble.  I think, come Jan. 8th, I will not be doing it anymore.  Getting pretty darned tired of all the bull they come up with.  Let someone else have all the headaches.

CW - just wait.  We were 78 yesterday - in the 50's and fog today and in the 30's tomorrow.  Possible snow flakes on Thursday.  My turkey has goose bumps.  Ah autumn in the true midwest.

I've divided the warmer bar in half:  1/2 still has breakfast on it, for those on the west coast, and the other half has our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta:  beef burritos, beef & beans burritos, Spanish rice, enchiladas, quasadillas, chopped lettuce with diced tomatoes, etc., and tortilla chips and sauces are on each table, booth and counter.

Sun is now shining, and we're to get up in the mid to upper 70s this afternoon.   Going to be a beautiful day.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone!  Cannonball, good to see you made it in last night!  And Tom, I know what you're talking about, being a human barometer!  My knee has really ached the last week and a half.  Supposed to see a high Thursday of 45, with snow flurries and/or snow showers, most of Thanksgiving Day, according to what I've heard this morning.  I'm just so very glad I no longer work in retail, and don't have to get out and have to deal with all those crowds Friday morning!!

Coffee has finished brewing, and hot chocolate and hot tea are just about ready.  On the warmer bar, you'll find all the regular breakfast/brunch items, including the bagels and bear claws.    Even have muffins and cinnamon rolls this morning, too!

Guess it's about time for me to get ready for these idiots (already showing up, one car pulled up out front at 6:10) for PRODUCE TUESDAY.

Question:  Do you want Tuesday Mexican Fiesta, or Tuesday Pizza Fest for lunch and supper today?!?! This week, you get to decide!!

Hi Quentin. Since I posted that message, I have found the answer. It seems that FDR issued an executive order in 1939 moving the official Thanksgiving day to the third Thursday in November. Apparently, he did so to help merchants have a longer Christmas season. It was not popular, resulted in great public indignation, and was totally ignored in some states, hence the two celebrations in '39, '40, and '41. Congress stepped in in '41 and changed it back to the 4th Thursday, which it still is. I learned of it from listening to a 1939 Jack Benny radio show this afternoon. It seems Jack went turkey shopping and came home with an ostrich!

Tom:

....I know Thanksgiving date was changed sometime back in that era....Don't remember just what year.  Not sure if it was FDR or Pres. Truman that was involved.

Wondering if that might have had someting to do with the 2 weekends of celebration.....?

CW, thanks for the supper. I love grilled cheese. My shoulder is feeling poorly, so I guess a front is coming throuigh soon. It is miserable at times being a walking barometer. If I don't get back to you, I hope that yall all have a super thanksgiving. By the way, did any of you know that in 1939, there were two thanksgiving weekends celebrated? I don't know why yet, but am looking into it...... Take care

Joe and Lance, containers are made and in the fridge for you all for work tonight.

Which means this Monday beats the heck out of last Monday!

I'll have a double shot of whatever is being served....
