How many locomotives do you own?
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, August 16, 2003 12:36 PM
Just for fun I thought I'd post this topic. Do you have just a few engines working hard on your layout or is your motive power roster greater than that of some small countries?

I myself have probably about 100 HO locomotives in my collection, not counting my tinplate trains. The reason I have so many is because I buy almost all of my trains used and am constantly searching for bargains. I can't turn down a train I don't have at a cheap price.

So cast your vote and share some coments. Also, if you own a hobby shop with hundreds of trains in stock, that doesn't count.

Right now in my database, I have 34 locomotives. This includes both powered & non-powered. It does not include the Proto RDC in my collection.

As of Feb 5th,2004 I have 36 locomotives, two powered RDC's & 4 more locomotives on order.

I have more than 100 because I have been collecting for more than 47 years. Most are in HO, but I have N, S, O and G also. Several are ones that were given to me when people got rid of their trains. If I can I try to fix them up and give to kids to get them started in the hobby. Since many models are limited production these days I have been buying some of my favorite HO locomotives while I can,

I currently have 21, all HO scale. I model the Southern and the L&N in the late 40's-early 50's, and so have a mix of late steam and early diesel. When the Broadway Limited Heavy Mikes arrive I'll add 2 of them. I think that will complete the roster.
At least that's the game plan thus far.

Have 14 Z-scale locomotives, 13 brass. At about $500 a pop for the brass, a pretty hefty investment. At least I know my marriage is secure, because she hasn't divorced me yet!

I have 26 various types of motive power in just about as many road names. I am not a rivet counter nor a protype Modeler. I buy what I like and what looks good to me. I know this might rankle the feathers of some die hards but It is my railroad.

To all you die hards out there, Keep It Up, your layouts are the reason I got interested in this hobby in the first place.
