Hi Dennis, (V8- Vega)
Where did the year go. It seems like it was just a month ago that we were hearing about your sojourn to Oregon last year.
Well, anyway, time does move more quickly for us oldsters, But I want to wish you happy trails with your plane trip, rail trip, and reunion. Hope it all goes smooth for you and good weather to boot.
Merry Christmas, hear from you when you get back.

Sir MadogYGW - I am also at a loss of words on what happened to your SIL. There is a candle lit up in our church for her and her children!
YGW, I hadn't read your post when I posted earlier. A few folks I know and I have been praying "in general" for your SIL as a result of your earlier posts. I've now extended that to a youth prayer chain at our church. They may be "just kids" but they are awesome pray-ers! PM me with names and general location if you're so inclined.

Der John .... Only $1.99 for lunch? At today's prices you would only get a Coke.
YGW.... No new PM's arrived, but I found an old thread and tried to reply to it.
I have a lot of trouble with this forum's PM messenging system. I can't start a conversation and I don't receive any from other forum members.

last mountain & eastern hoggerLots of Christmas pageants and parties, sounds like all are having a very good time. We had ours a couple of weeks ago. They had issued decrees to all members, that apparently came from Ceasar Agustus, to come to Bethlehem to pay our taxes and when we got there the whole hall was done up like a business section in the old city, with market stalls selling fruit and pitas etc. that we got to pay for it by chocolate covered gold coins that we got when we entered. The Inn was there but they had no room for anyone, but the stable was available for awhile until a couple from the City of Nazareth arrived and they took that accomadation. It was followed by the pageant with the youth taking part. Very well done and all were enjoying thenselves with the new set-up that was done this year rather than sitting down, everyone got to roam around, buy (pretend to ) food drink and socialize until the entertainment started and then that was done in various locations in the city so that everyone got a close up of some of it.
Unusual idea Johnboy - I've sent it off to our "Drama and Events" person for filing... We've had "Live Nativities" with sheep courtesy of our friendly nieghbourhood sheep farmer - but this whole city moveable feast thing sounds intriguing. Thanks.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a couple sour cream glazed donuts to go along with a large pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee please.
YGW, please know your SIL and your whole family are in my prayers!
Going to be a busy day around these parts... Have to drive to Canandaigua to deposit some checks to the MLK Scholarship Fund, then stop at a couple NMRA Members to get their signatures on the petition. Tonight I promised the Grandmother of one of the Scouts in the Handicapped Troop that I would go to her Grandson's Piano Recital tonight in a nearby town. He is doing the Music Merit Badge with me so this will be used for one of his requirements for it. His grandmother is one of the leaders in the troop and will be having surgery today, so I told her I would be there at the recital in her place...
After a very good day yesterday for the electric, today is back to dark and dull, dull, dull as Barry would say...
Gotta get moving! Catch you all later.

Blown out cylinder - Thanks
If you pray my SIL and her children really need your prayers now. She is not out of the woods and if she does pull through she will have a VERY LONG road to recovery if she ever fully recovers.
Yes they have arrested three men and the police are doing a homocide investigation. We dot know why they did this.

Good morning ..... It's a rain day here. I hope to find time to work on my Sylvan Models truck tractor. Of course, there are many other things to do having nothing to do with model railroading.
YGW ...... Your report about your SIL is absolutely shocking ! It gets my hackles up, and I don't even know your SIL. ..... Have suspects been arrested? Why would they do that? .... We'll be praying for her. Keep us informed. .... YGW: I just looked for your eamil address, but don't have it anymore. We are missing many email contacts in our email account because of screw-ups with the email provider. If you still have our email account, send a message if you get a chance.
Ulrich ... Still praying you have a speedy recovery.

YGW ... Looking forward to when you have time to visit the Diner. Prayers for your SIL.
Thanks all. W**k has been extremely tough. We normally pump out one to two high end homes a month. Our investors required that we do FIVE in December ! Non stop action, lots of STRESS, Frustration etc...Especially this time of year many of the national builders are doing the same thing. Result is you just cannot buy a pianter, tile guy, finish plumber electrician etc... That makes it even harder with dead lines looming.
SIL - Three men beat the tar out of her. She has broken ribs, broken wrist, head trauma with a brain bleed and then they set her town house on fire (it is a total loss ) with her in it. She has third degree burns on her back. She is ICU her parents are taking care of her two boys who are 6 and 8 ( they lost everything to that they owned including their Christmas tree and presents ) . I tell you if they convict these guys and sentence them to death I am so angrythat they would do this to her and her little children I would volunteer to pull the lever to send them on their way to eternity.
Lion - LOL good joke

I was going to email ygw to thanks for the update, I too was getting worried.
The thing about the smart phone is it anticipate s your words so you don't have to type everything and it autocorrect s but one has to be careful as it will spit out dirty word s that definitely are not allowed here!
Been chatting with city friend all weekend he's a goidea guy. Some words the smart phone messes up to o! Goidea=good!
Well I have alot to do before the plumber gets here this afternoon so no nap today! Grrrr...
Have MH therapy at9 am and lots to do . going to maithortgage payment with extra towards principle! That's the way to go. Putting about $1250 extr towards it.that is about 4 extra principle payments.
The park will haul off the trailer at their expense so that is what we do... Sign it over isn't worth much anyway. We will sell the new(er) appliances though..hope to get about $500-700 out ofthem on CL. I got to go take pictures of them and figure out how to post on CL. Anyone have tip??????

Good Morning!
December 21st - the last day of Fall and the shortest day of the year! We will have only 7 hrs and 28 min of daylight today, with the sunrise having taken place at 8.34 am and the sunset at 4.02pm. It´s way too warm for the season! While we expect the daytime high at about 50F, southern Germany will enjoy a tropical heat wave with 63F. People will be better of celebrating Hanami - the Japanese cherry blossom festival - instead of waiting for Santa Claus to come!
Flo, I´ll have a Barry-sized breakfast, with lots of coffee, a breakfast bagel, a tall glass of OJ and a plate full of things I am not supposed to eat! Thank you!
Ken - loss of short-term memory? Well, that could have been caused by a concussion, but it could also be something a lot worse - like Alzheimer at an early stage! Whatever it is, Jerry seems to be in a state in which he should not be left all by himself.
Garry - thanks for updating us on the whereabouts of YGW!
Galaxy - how´s the move coming along? Will you be "reunited" for the holidays?
Petra and I will be doing the last grocery run before Christmas. Just a few things only, basically we are all set for the holidays. Petra will spend a lot of time in the kitchen during the next days, preparing all the goodies for Christian. I am glad I am allowed to have a few of them as well
Have a good one!
Good evening ....
JohnBoy ... I hope you had a good time with your grandson.
Galaxy .... I suppose sometmes we cherry pick our words here in the Diner to stay out of trouble. Lately, Vinnie has been at ease, and that is fine with me.

Good Evening Diners,
Nothing tonight Brunhilda.
Just stopped in to let everyone know, I e-mailed YGW. He is OK. He has been extremely busy at work and plans to drop in next week. He said to say "Hi" to everyone.
However, his SIL is in the ICU and is in need of prayers. I'll defer to him to fill in details, but as I understand it she really needs prayers.
Hi to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

blownout cylinderDid Jerry have some kind of concussion at some point?
Yes Jerry did have one. Today was the first day he brought it up. (My self I would have spoke about it with the person I was working with as soon as we meet.) He told me the concussion effect his short term memory, that I will swear to! When I am not quzzing him about things I have showen him, he has a quick witt. I am starting to like him.
Hum, could it be a scam, I am not a real trusting soul anymore. He was rear ended and has a law suit going against State Farm. He told me It is only his short term memory that was effected! But yet he cannot do simple math? He all so may want me to come to court to testify he is ATE UP?

Hi Gang,
Sure hope you all have had an enjoyable Sabbath day. I didn't get to Church today as I had to work this week end. However, I have two days off now the work a day and a half and then four days off. looking forward to it.
Ulrich, You were asking about a couple of our regulars here. I haven't heard anything about YGW. lately but, Mark was in a short time ago and said he is having issues with a hip. Sounds like possibly a tumor or such. Hope all is well with both of them.

Galaxy, Hope you get settled before Christmas, sounds like it is going pretty well for you even if it is slower than you would like.
Terry, What is happening up your way in Wisconsin this Christmas ? Haven't heard from you in awhile.
Ray, The Bridge looks like an award winner. great work...
I was having alittle difficulty with two of the three blue point turnout controllers I put in. One worked great right off and the others were put in with the same amount of care but just didn't want to throw the rails. I ended up pulling out the springs from the Pecos and now they work slick. I have to paint the concrete under the elevated station now and then clean the rail head, then I will be able to start the finishing work and details on the Station and get it back in place. I won't be finished it by Christmas, but I will put it in place for the holidays anyway.
Well my Grandson and his Dad just stopped by so I will go and spend some time with them.
Later Gators.. Til then,
Johnboy out.........
Afternoon folks!
Chloe, I just need a cup of decaf for the moment. I will be heading out to my son's house in about a half hour... I have a new Sunday Job giving my #1 Granddaughter Guitar Lessons.... I was suopopoised tio bve doing trhga last year, but it just didn't work out. That and the dog peed on the book she had.... She is now at a better age to start seriously taking lessons and is very excited to have "Papa" be her teacher. I even got my axe out and got it tuned!
I was an usher at church this morning which I always enjoy. This was the "Pageant" Sunday and both girls were in it. #2 Granddaughter was the "Star" of the show.... litterally! She was one of the Angels and about the time the Wise People were supposed to show up she left the stage and ran to the back. She reappeared holding the star nice and high with the Wize People following her. I call them Wize People as there weren't enough boys in the Sunday School to have "Kings" this year so they were 3 young ladies. We don't make issues of those kinds of things anyway so the three Wize People came down holding what I guess was a box of gold, A bottle of local Reisling, and something else that I couldn't make out.... The Pageant was short and so was the sermon so It was a great service.
After the service ended I retrieved the expensive Microphone I lend for use each year, had some Plum Pudding and Punch, and headed home. Then had to get the grocery shopping done as I needed a birthday card for my DIL's Brother who's birthday is today and will be celebrated at Son's house during supper (after the guitar lesson...).
Sun has been shining most all day through a hazy sky, but it should be a good one for making kWh's. Still hoping to have the best December yet with the panels.
No model railroading will be taking place today here at my house. Catch you all later!
Good afternoon Diners - final rehersal after church for this evening's "Am Drams" (I'm a travel agent demonstrating a choice of vacations via interactive holographic technology - an old fax machine courtesy the props department!) It went well, and this evening should be fun!
cudakenTrain Front Question Have you ever wonder why a engine can make it around the layout say 10 times then start picking turnout? Let it sit a few days, and it is fine again? Whistling Do they get tired and don't want to play anymore? Smile, Wink & Grin
I've noticed the same thing Ken, and I'm wondering if it's the tension holding the (point?) rail against the (stock?) rail getting just a bit weak over repeated use. Metal recovers in the "off" period only to fatigue again the next long session. I've no idea if that has any kind of validity....anyone else??? - ah, I see Garry has a much beter explanation. Out of gauge whellsets can be a pain, especially when they meet jusy=out-of-gauge rails in turnouts! Difficult to diagnose sometimes; thanks Garry!
Later maybe - in the mean time this is for whoever whould like it..
Good evening Folks!
It´s been a rather uneventful 4th Sunday of Advent here, but I actually don´t mind. I don´t feel well today.
Ray - here is a link to the cat pictures!
Galaxy - we use the free terrestrial digital thing, but it is limited to about 30 channels, none of them having a program worth watching. They will upgrade it to HD by next year, requiring us to buy either a new TV set or at least a new external receiver. It´ll have more channels, but what´s the use of having more channel we won´t watch?
Does anyone have an info on the whereabouts of YGW? I read he had some health issues to cope with - I hope he is OK! What´s up with Mark (Crhostler)?
Zoe, make that a mug of hot chocolate and a handful of brownies, please!

Garry, how did you know that I was trying to get someone to comment on this post?
Lol
Well I was going to convert my old 13" analog TV to a digital antenna, but by the time I buy a converter box and the d. Antenna, I might as well buy a new digital TV.
We don't NEED another TV, but I have been w/o TV for a month now, and it was driving me nuts with radio only. We will move the TV and cable closer to final move.
So I bought a $17 digital antenna, and a 24" digital TV @ Wally world. I only wanted the 19" TV but they fly out so fast they were out if stock. The TV will go in the 3 season room eventually or stay in the finished basement when done, so no night.
I found 9 channels with the antenna, but 2 are not coming in. So 7 local channels and about all we watch.
I think when we move the cable we buy a modem or if possible use the WiFi and hard wire the desktop to it. Then drop the few extra channels of TV we get and drop our bill from $85/m to just $49/ m for just the ' net. I will see what moh says when home from work.
That's extra $$$to go towards the basement finishing after we pay off a few things.
G'mornin', all. It will be a chilly one here, probably not touching 40, but Wednesday the predicted high is 64 with some rain. I don't think we'll be skiing this week. Our usual place, Sunday River, has only 25 trails open out of about 140, so it's limited and probably not worth 3 hours in the car each way. This is going to be a terrible year for the ski areas in New England.
Ken, one thing I've noticed is that I got more reliable performance over turnouts, specifically Atlas, if I throw the troublemakers a few times at the start of a session. That insures that they are solidly in place and haven't vibrated and shifted. It seems to work for me.
Dennis, how long does it take you to get through a box of Cheerios? I'm not that big a cereal guy, maybe 3 times a week, and I like to rotate between varieties, so it would take me months to go through that many boxes. Are they still fresh when you get to them?
Ray, I'm looking forward to seeing that bridge in place.
UP831, if you haven't been to a hockey game in a while, one thing you will notice is the "entertainment" between periods while they're making the ice. A group of young ladies skate around, doing maintenance with snow shovels and tossing T-shirts to the crowd. In Chicago, they wear attractive shirts with "Ice Crew" on the back. Say that a few times in a row to get the double meaning.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Good morning. ...... Coffee and a pecan roll please.
Ken ... Regarding a locomotive that may pick a switch maybe 1 out of 20 time .... One possibility is wheels are slightly out of guage on one axle, and sometimes it bumps into the switch point with just enough force to lift it off the rail, Most times, it may lift, but drop back where it belongs. Other times, it drops on the wrong side of the rails.
We're going to late morning church, and I'm going to be a reader at 4th Sunday of Advent service. See you later.
