Morning diners,

I bought a PS4 Star Wars live pass for the year. I decided to get it because they were offering double the points unit Monday. Me and dad were playing almost all day sharing the controller.

Not many of those moments, the last time it was around 10 years ago with the Star Wars Battlefront 2 back in 2005-2006. I let his mind off the casino for the time being.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo Beer Please.

Just sitting here sipping Beer watching the trains run trying to forget yet another day with Dunce Jerry.

Train Front Question Have you ever wonder why a engine can make it around the layout say 10 times then start picking turnout? Let it sit a few days, and it is fine again? Whistling Do they get tired and don't want to play anymore? Smile, Wink & Grin

 Later, Ken

Hey guys

Accessing from my smart phone. I figured out finally I don't have to be at the outer to at least post. I am probably a better typist here due to autocorrect!!!

Cud cuds is so confused we were packing more stuff and out the door it goes. I spent some time snuggling with him as he really misses his pop-pop and doesn't understand why pop-pop only visits now and is always packing stuff and hauling it out the door!

Tired and past my bedtime so I will close now.

Make it a great restful night and see you early tomorrow morning.

Good Evening Diners,

Brunhilda, I'll have a cup of Earl Grey tea with cream and honey, please.

Feeling a bit under the weather today.  Spent most of morning in bed and taking it easy.  Right now watching Chicago Wolves hockey on TV, waiting for MOH to come home.

V8 Dennis:  That sounds like a real deal on Cheerios.  Sure hope you like them.

Big Smile

MOH obtained Blackhawks tickets as a prize from vendor party.  I've only seen 2 live hockey games so it should be a lot of fun.  The thing that surprised me most when I actually saw hockey live was how much the puck is actually in the air.  It isn't apparent on TV.

Ray:  you r bridge is a really good model.

Has anyone heard from YGW?  He had mentioned some health problems.  Hope he's ok.

Hi to everyone.

I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

Afternoon folks...

Chloe, a cup of hot chocolate would be wonderful right now.  Need to keep my blood sugar up you know.

Uncle_Bob
Your sugar's good, but you're still borderline because your something else related to sugar is 6.2.

Bob, the 6.2 would be your A1C.  That is a long term average of some blood thingie that tells what your sugar has been doing over a three month period.  6.2 is in the "it;s OK but we would like it a bit lower" range.  For someone who is diabettic, they want it below 7.0.  Mine has been hanging in there at 5.7 - 5.8 for the last 5 years and my doctor is very happy about it.  Of course I take JanuMet twice a day and test my blood twice a day.  112 or 122 after eating is not bad at all...  They want it under 150 two hours after you eat a meal.  I try to have mine under 140.  I wouldn't worry too much about your blood sugar with those readings.  The A1C is a better check of how you are doing than individual blood tests according to my Doc.

Got a Christmas card from an old friend and Collegue from Waverly yesterday.  He let me know there was a nice memorial Service for the man who the pastor of our church way back when I first was teaching.  I just did an online search and found his Obituary...  I'm a bit down about it.  He was the most off the wall minister I ever met.  One day I was coming out of the local Post Office in town, when a Honda 950 motorcycle roared up next to me driven by a guy with a patch over one eye, black leather jacket, smoking a huge cigar!  He yells over at me, "Hey Ray!  Just wanted to let you know that our Director of Music just turned her resignation earlier today.  Don't know if that means a .....  thing to you but if your interested, give me a holler!"  ROOOOAAAAARRRRRRR!!!!!  That was how I became Director of Music at the church.  I taught 3 of his children and was a good friend of his and his wife during that time.  Among other things he only had one eye (lost one in an accident in college) and we used to go flying around at night in his Cessna. He is the man who brought me back to the church and solidified my belief system.  Wonderfully devout but totally off the wall in so many ways.  RIP Rev. Richard E. Ploth!

OK, back to w*rk!  Got a lot still to get done today.

Mr B, I used to be heavily into exercise, but it decreased over time, and pretty much stopped once I got married.  If layout construction ever starts, that will get me away from the tv and my snack bowl.  Still, I need to do something.

So, I wolfed a sandwich between work and the doctor's office.  I got out of the car, and found out they'd moved.  Back into the car, off to the new office, get weighed, and into the exam room.  You've gained weight.  Okay. Let's take your vitals.  Okay so far.  Let's check your blood sugar.  How often do you check it?  Never.  What?  No one told me to, and no two people have the same diagnosis.  *** my finger, read the number, and it was either 112 or 122 -- either way, I don't know what it means, butt it's thrown off by the fact I just ate.  LPN leaves, nurse practitioner enters.  She says it's good to see me, but she didn't need to see me for several more months -- someone scheduled me when they shouldn't have.  BP is good (but worse than when I saw her before, when she said it was high).  You need a BP cuff.  (Not as much as I need a bunch of lumber, but....)  Your sugar's good, but you're still borderline because your something else related to sugar is 6.2.  (My pulmonologist told me there are multiple scales for diabetes diagnosis, so it's hard to nail this down.  Still, I don't know what the numbers mean, which makes me kind of wonder if it's not partly a way to scare people into becoming repeat customers and drug addicts, while having their internal chemistry changed, but who knows.)  Also, you need a flu shot, and we're changing some of your meds.  See you in six months.

So anyway, ive been thinking of adding some of these BLI steamers because my grandfather worked for the Pennsy, but the latest batch seems underwhelming if the reviews here are accurate. I'd have to hear one to make a final decision, but the nearest BLI dealers either don't have them in stock, are a haul, or are in cities I try to avoid in winter, so it'd basically be buying a pig (or a lollipop or hippo, anyway) in a poke.

Mornin' everyone!  Well.. It is still morning for 4 more minutes here in the Finger lakes....

Zoe, I need another pot of  Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee to keep me awake and moving I think.

Barry, we have had a few slivers of sunshine today, but stil;l very overcast and chilly out.  Currently 31°F under cloudy skies and a 17mph wind from the West.

Ulrich, how do you find those GIFs?  Adorable little kittens!

I went down to the SERRV Shop at my church to pretty much finish my Christmas Shopping.  Only need to go to the Fine Chocolate Store in Canandaigua to get some Chocolates to give out to the more distant relatives of my DIL...  Now I have to see if I have enough wrapping paper and bnows and all that STUFF to finsh the job.

Actually have the decals all put on the girder bridge as of last night.  Did find a few things I had left off that I added after this photo was taken.  I will be painting the bridge this afternoon and starting the scenery that will be the "other end" of the bridge.

Have a good one!

Howdy everybody .

Why is it dull? ... Trains are never dull to me. ..... It has been quiet here so far today. So I went in the train room and ran trains. Three train at once. CB&Q freight train with SD24's. Cb&Q freight train with F7's. .. And a GN passenger train with F3's. All were running at the same time. ... I also worked a bit on the Sylvan Model White truck tractor. Glued tiny little pieces together. Will begin painting next.

It is a busy time of the year, and the rest of the day will be non-train stuff.

Ulrich .... Glad you are running your train. Hope you recovery soon. I like the cats you post.

Happy Model Railroading !

Good Afternoon!

May I join Barry in his dull day? No snow flurries here, though - it is way too warm for the season, with the midday high at 55F! The weather guessers already commit themselves to a zero percent chance for a White Christmas Crying

Well, only 5 days left until Christmas. I still have to develop that Christmas feeling, but I doubt I will succeed this year. Maybe if we had snow ... Sigh

I spent some time letting my miniature Glacier Express circle my layout - a very therapeutical experience, which leads me to the question how much layout one actually needs. I might ask that question in a separate thread - just to counteract that "Minimum radius in a modest layout" thread. If a layout filling a spare room is considered to be modest, I´d like to know what my layout is, then! Probably not more than a humble attempt Smile, Wink & Grin

Galaxy - will you have finished the move by Christmas? Isn´t it an awkaward time to move house? Continue pulling for you!

GM, Men!

Today's word:

farrago

PRONUNCIATION:
(fuh-RAH-goh) http://wordsmith.org/words/farrago.mp3

MEANING:
noun: A confused mixture.

ETYMOLOGY:
From Latin farrago (mixed fodder). Ultimately from the Indo-European root bhares- (barley), which also gave us barn, barley, and farina. Earliest documented use: 1637.

USAGE:

Max Landis’s script cobbles together a farrago of cod* psychology and makeshift backstory to prop up a plot that never finds any cohesive direction.
Donald Clarke; Creaking at the Seams; Irish Times (Dublin) Dec 4, 2015.
* not genuine

Ken: It took nearly 3 months to close on the house after offer was accepted! so no, 2 months wait to close on new loan not so good...I'd do as someone above sugested, shop around for trhe VA loan ELSEWHERE! See what you get told there, nad get AWAQY FORM BOS! Cud CUds and MOH stay at the trailer and I at teh new hosue so both are occupied while the move is in transition. We thought about moving cud cuds already, but he is stressed as stuff keeps going out and Pop-pop {me} omnly comes to visit now! His world is getting rocked! He usually sleeps ont he bed from breakfast to a bout 1 pm, but now his bed is GONE! He sleeps on the couch now where MOH sleeps until the move is complete,.

The park will take over the trailer as they won't allow us to sell it,and they wnat to pull it out at their expense. They only wnat pitched shingled roofed vinyl sided trailers in here now nad ours is round roof aluminum siding. We won't get any money, and they won't charge us for hauling it away. It may be our tgrailer, but it is in the lease all sales must be approved by the park Mgmt company,s o we are stuck. Our contractor frined will come sunday wiht his frined to look at it to determine if they can do somehting with it in exchange for some labor onthe house and put it on thier own land . it will be a trade deal, the trailer will get pulled to satisfy the park and we get some free labor at the new hosue instead of total loss.

We will see what sunday brings, the contractor can obvioulsy fix it up to sell or rent or to let fanily live in it onhis property.

That will determine the disposition of the trailer.

well, thats it.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, a Beer Please

BoS Front Well, I did it and applied for the new loan. Sigh Few things are not what I was sort of told. Woman said I could not be turned down, well seems now I could be but still a good chance I will get it. Was told it would be quick! Well, I guess 2 months is quick, I think the first one took 3 months or so. I was told my credit use was not a problem, hum now it is? Whistling That means I cannot get the pre-approved Visa card I have on the desk. No big loss, was not in a hurry for it anyway.

Mr B I had checked a few months back about using a driffrent bank. There would have been a higher out of pocket cost, plus while I hate BoS it seemed simpler. But, what was I thinking, it is Bank Of Stupid after all! Laugh

Galaxy Cud Cuds is still in the trailer? Is your other half still there as well?

Jerry Dunce Front Spent 2 hours trying to straighten out 15 minutes of paper work. Guy still cannot add or follow the cheat sheets I have made for him. All so cannot find the store yellow copys of paper work. Guess the file cabinet is to complex for him to understand?

Why do I get all of the Speical Need Employees? Bang Head

Galaxy ... SOunds like you are prgressing with moving to the new place. Hopefully, you can find a little model railroading time in the near future.

Frank ... I actually had a little time to work on the White tractor. Not much yet, but the part are filed and cleaned now. ... The front bumper is cast into the plastic, and about a 1/4 of it was already broken off when I opened the package. I think it can easily be super-glued back together.

I forgot to say earlier that today is our oldest daughter's birthday. It is hard to beleive she is now 45. Where did all of those years go ?

Mornin....  Ah...  OK, Afternoon folks!

Zoe, since your still on duty, I could use a pot of Marrakesh Express Dark Roast Coffee for my FGLK Mug and a handful of those gingerbread cookies Ulrich brought in to tide me over until lunch.

Have the same weather here in the Finger Lakes Region as Barry has to the North today.  Yesterday the solar panels churned out a whole 1/2kWh for me....  That is about 2.2 miles worth of driving in the PiP...  Today won't be much better.  But December and January are the worst months due to several factors so it is normal.  A few days with some sun and they will have the best December yet totally.

Was supposed to make a run to Canandaigua this afternoon to drop of a pile of checks for the MLK Scholarship and get a couple signatures on the petition...  One of the two guys won't be home this afternoon so I will postpone until Monday or Tuesday to make the run.  I will make a trip down Seneca Lake to buy some Mead and Hard Cider for my son and his wife for Christmas instead.  Should also finish the repairs on the girder bridge today.  May even get more paint on it, who knows.

Catch you all later!

Hello, everyone!

Last night I was invited to the Christmas party for a group of hockey friends who sometimes ask me to fill in when they need a goalie.  We ate at a Chinese restaurant, so right now I'm dragging a bit from eating Crab Rangoon, egg rolls, chicken wings and Chinese spare ribs while drinking a few beers until midnight.  It was good to see all the guys on "injured reserve" who are healthy enough to drink beer but are still awaiting medical clearance to get back on the ice after various injuries.

More dreary weather.  Only in the 40s, dark skies now with some rain later.  Last night, we were wondering when the ski areas up north would have enough snow to make the 3-hour drive worthwhile.

Ken, call the bank and get all the details you can on that VA loan.  Then, call a couple of other banks and ask them about it.  Since it's a VA loan, it should be available to other banks, and you can get away from these guys that seem to give you heartburn.

Time for some coffee and a "Pfefferkuchen" (gingerbread cookie)!

Not much happening today - a grey and dull day. I don´t feel like running a train - maybe later. We have about an hour of daylight left - I might go for a short walk. I am not allowed to go by myself, so let´s see what Petra is up to.

GM, MEN!

Turns out as talk turned to NYC subways, that my City friend is  a train nut too! SO he may accompany MOH and I and our other train nut friend to train events!! We never talked aobut it so, ti never came up.

I will dispense wiht the word of the day today, and just chat,  I don't feel like the search, I have to get a move-on, I am now a day behind as I spent all of yesterday with my city friend.

Showed him pics of steamtown's Rail fest this past Labor day on my cell phone and of Essex Conn. steam train we took last spring. City friend was enthused!

Hmm.. speaking of trains, MOH just handed me a n N scale loco found while packing yesterday...

KEN: RUN DON'T WALK TO THAT DEAL!!!!!!!!!! VA deals are often VERY GOOD< and for $15, you can't go wrong to reduce your payment! You might cry if i told you our rate and mortgage/taxes/insurance payment! And our taxes here are relatively HIGH here in comparison to the purchase price. {our taxes are N of $2,500 a year}.

Ulrich: glad you are among us again, had it reached 3 weeks no hear-ums from you, MOH and I would have called Petra to see what was the story! I figured you were hosptialized, but didn't know what for.

MOH may need surgery again, has to call the surgeon to find out..that will mean another $5600 in co-pays ou t the proverbial window!

I see the neurosurgeon the 30th to find out about my neck surgery possibility.

ENjoying a cup of Vanilla Macadamia nut coffee..direct from where else? Hawaii!

so, MAKE IT A GREAT DAY, Y'all!!!

I gotta run adn do some shopping and banking before moving schtuff.

Ok just a mug of decaf please....

The troop and pack had their holiday party tonight...  Way too much to eat!  The two Commissioners and one Cub leader left early and came to my house so she could do her Youth Protection Mandatory Training...  Yeah....  Right!  The new Scout website is absolutely the worst piece of garbage I have ever seen.  You end up going in circles and never end up at the right place to actually get anything accomplished.  I have sent a very terse email to the Key Three of our District asking how exactly can we get this "Mandatory Training" done when you can't get there?

Have to take out the trash and recycling for pickup tomorrow before I head to bed.

Catch you later...  Like in the morning...

Good evening Diners: Close to bedtime here, so a soothing Ovaltine would go down well - - please and thankyou Brunhilda. Just the one will do, I don't need a whole armful! LOL (Ducks scythe-like sweep of mighty, armoured, Teutonic arm)

Sir Madog
John - I liked MR´s former project layout "The Salt Lake Route" quite a lot - all it needs is staging, but that could go on one of the legs of your planned "L"-shaped layout.

Thanks Ulrich, I've found that and bookmarked it. It certainly looks interesting - I vaugely remember the articles on it in MR but didn't pay much attention at the time.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please

Have Mixed feelings about today. Went to BoS (Bank of Stupid DBA Bank Of America) today and it is my 18th on time payment I have made after the Cluster Thing I went through to get the loan modafied, it took 3 years and I had get a Lawyer and it took her 8 months! My only goal has been to get away from BoS!

Today when I was making my house payment the teller asked me if I wanted to speak with there loan specialist? For some unknowen reason I said Yes? There loan specialist told me there is a New VA Loan that I would get approvred for and my only out of pocket cost would be $15.00. It would lower my house payment from $836.99 to $736.99 a month.

If I had that offer from any other Bank, I would have Jumped on it! But I hate that Bank Of Stupid so much, I told her I would think about it! If BoS was a real person, would have killed them by now!

In hind sight, I all ready have to deal with them anyway. So I will call again Friday and get more details.

 Later, Ken
