Hi Guys,

I now have 6 pledges to help out SIL. I know shes not technically one of us, so there may be some resistance. But she IS a relatgive of one of our very OWN YGW!! And/But the horrible manner in which she came to the state I decided to start the pledges IS reason enough to do so. ESPECIALLY if no one else in her community seems to care about raising a fund for her!!!WE CAN DO IT!

PM me for my new address.

If you can't financially do it due to the holidays or so, I will collect at least til Jan 31, and probably to Feb 29th! If I know you are pledging, but can't send it immediately, like RAY {thank you!}, that is fine too. Just let me know your pledge and expected mailing! Even  I am making an effort though we just have spent a bundle buying  a house!

Thanks to ALL who ARE pledging!

If you can't PM me, try telling me here in the diner to PM you from myself and I will try to, to see if that works that way.

lets get in otthe giving holiday spirit and help out!

as C. S. Lewis says:

Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.

Miracles are a retelling in small letters of the very same story which is written across the whole world in letters too large for some of us to see.

Lets see if we can create a miracle for SIL!

Thnaks,

GM, MEN!

Today's word:

pinchbeck

PRONUNCIATION:
(PINCH-bek) http://wordsmith.org/words/pinchbeck.mp3

MEANING:
adjective: Counterfeit or spurious.
noun: An alloy of zinc and copper, used as imitation gold in jewelry.

ETYMOLOGY:
After watchmaker Christopher Pinchbeck (1670-1732), who invented it. It’s ironic that today his name is a synonym for something counterfeit, but in his time his fame was worldwide, not only as the inventor of this curious alloy, but also as a maker of musical clocks and orreries. The composition of this gold-like alloy was a closely-guarded secret, but it didn’t prevent others from passing off articles as if made from this alloy... faking fake gold!

USAGE:

There had been something precious between them, like true gold among pinchbeck.”
Jo Beverley; The Secret Wedding; Signet; 2009.

Today's Quotes:

I've also seen that great men are often lonely. This is understandable, because they have built such high standards for themselves that they often feel alone. But that same loneliness is part of their ability to create. -Yousuf Karsh, portrait photographer (23 Dec 1908-2002)

Whistling

GALAXY,  That is great to hear about the pledges.

C'Mon Gang, we have done others before but not in such a vary serious vain as this one.  What a horrible experience to have at any time, but especially at this time of the year and her two small boys trying to figure out whats with their Mom.  YGW. has had more that his share of problems to worry about this past year, I know that anything we can do towards helping his SIL and her boys will lessen a little of that for him and really show our colors that we care and are prepared to step up to the plate when we see someone in trouble.   It was amazing what we did for Jeff and Ulrich, lets see if we can top that.

Garry, good to see the Chapel car was ready for service, boy it has sure come in handy the past year.  I have a kit for a heavyweight observation car that Model Railroader put out as an anniversary car by Athearn. I think it is named for Kalmbach. I might just turn that into a Chapel car at some point for a distraction to other jobs that are always hanging fire.

My Son and DIL arrive from Montana late tomorrow evening.  It will be late as they can't leave until after work, then about a nine hour drive.  Looking forward to them being here if only for four days.

On the RR. front, I ballasted about ten feet of track this afternoon and will go back before bed here to paint the concrete under the Elevated station so that I can set it in place for the Christmas season, as I don't see much time for it until the end of the month now.  Maybe just run a few trains for friends and Sons.

I just finished with feeding the "beast" here, and must clean up my feeding tube and various other fixtures before I head back down to the LM&E, so I'll sign off for now.

Talk to you all tomorrow, before Santa comes.

Johnboy out.....................Ho Ho Ho.

Dennis, posting pictures is pretty easy after you figure out how to use something like one of the photo sharing sites liike photobucket.com.  Don't give up on trying to learn how.

Well, went for a nice walk this afternoon without a jacket on the first day of winter.  Lots of people were out walking, jogging and biking.

Seasons Greatings to all.  Wish I could taste some of Petra's wonderful looking dishes.

Mornin'....  Well, ahem...  Afternoon folks!

Zoe, I did get out of bed and gave my kitties their insulin on time, but I have been just dragging around here trying to get myself in motion for the past 3 hours...  Did deal with 40 or 50 emails already.  Just need a refill on the dark roast coffee right now.  Another pot or two and I might wake up.

Galaxy, if you are able to get something going for YGW's SIL I will help out, but I can't until the first of the year....  Hope your move is going smoothly and you will be able to move the kittie cat to the new place before the poor thing really thinks it is being abandoned.....

Ulrich, what time is dinner served on Christmas?  I think you will be eating very well!  If I could I would be there with a bottle of Finger Lakes Riesling to add to the festivities!  I will be at my Son's house a couple times on Christmas though.  I go over for Breakfast when we exchange our gifts, and then come back over mid afternoon for the formal dinner and the family gathering of the Harrison Clan....

I will be spending today wrapping presents and finding out whom I need to do some last minute shooping for.....  There are still a couple things for the family I have not been able to find so I will have something to do tomorrow I'm sure...

My prayers going out to YGW and his whole family and all others who are in pain or sorrow at this time of year!

Good Afternoon!

Another quiet day here - just some "last minute" grocery shopping to get over the holidays. It was enough to make me really tired again. I did not feel like going for a walk today, as it is plain awkward outside - wet, nothing but wet!

There is a terribly nice smell coming from the kitchen, as Petra is starting to prepare the food for the holidays. She started out with this:

That´s a genuine Austrian "Linzer Torte" and I tell - it´s delicious! Tomorrow, she will start on the prep work for our Christmas dinner, which will be

 and

and for desert:

Anybody care to join us? Come on over, there is plenty!

YGW - I wish I could do something to help and ease the burden on your family, but all I am able to do is to include Kelly, the boys and all of your family in my prayers.

While searching the web for a page I had seen years ago, I came across a Lego page, showing Lego trains. Incredible, what people are able to do with those little bricks today!

There is a free Lego design tool available and I now have the plan, the instructions, and a parts list for this saved on my computer!

Here is a video of a similar loco:

Incredible!

Morning diners,

Lately I was busy the past two days playing Star Wars Battlefront.

Railroading has slowed down for a bit. I was thinking about canceling my Model Railroader magazine and go into Trains next September. Probably it's just a phase that's happening.

My mom is having a terrible time with her daughter. Basically the same old stuff, nothing to do, bored and that 10 week old dog.

Galaxy I don't know how to post pictures but a ad in Craigslist or eBay without a picture is a waste of time.

Someday I'll learn how to post pictures and then I have a bunch of stuff to try to sell.

I read people telling how to post pictures and to date no one has been able to explain it in easy to understand language.

Don't feel bad I couldn't figure how to post pictures on this web site either.

Thanks, YGW for the update.

As it sounds like only clothing and presents have been handled,  and no other account set up, my offer to coordinate our efforts still stands.

No, we won't raise enougto pay all medical expenses, but money to help cover restart expenses or to support the kids would help.

I hate standing idly by expecting someone else to do something

Prayers will help her heal, but its the other needs that come up afterwards that need taking care of. I know been there, done that. More than once.

I feel fortunate to be where I am now compared to some of the places I have been in life!

So, my offer to coordinate still stands.

See my previous posts for what to do you're so inclined .

YGW ... The Chapel Car is on its way to the Diner for those who need a quiet place for "fervent prayer" for Kelly. ....

Regarding donations, it sounds like YGW's church is doing things. I suspect cash donations for Kelly and her family there would be accepted by that church.

Lion ... That's a big breakfast. ... Barry (Blownout cylindar) has a lot of competition now.

Thanks for the prayer and empathy. For those that pray and for more specific prayer here is more info.

My SIL first name is Kelly and her boys names are Bryce 6yrs old and Hunter 8 yrs old . She has : Punctured lungs, broken ribs, broken wrist, head trauma with brain bleed ( amost certain brain damage ), fluid in her lungs, breathing and feeding tubes inserted, 3rd degree burns on her back and top of her legs, she has already undergone surgeries to put plates in her wrist/arm, skin grafts with "foreign grafts" I assume that means donor grafts which they performed Friday. Yesterday they attempted a "swallow test" which if it had been succesful they could have moved her to lower emergency level. The test failed. She is still in ICU and the hospital will not allow her children to see her. Probably not a good idea either at this time.

MIL is looking into getting counseling for the boys. They are terribly upset. They have not been able to see there mom for over three weeks. The boys are scared their mom is dieing.

In regards to fund sites there hasnt been any set up that I am aware of. I trust Galaxy to handle that if everyone is inclined. Our church and MIL/FIL church is taking care of clothing and presents. I suspect that the doctor bills will be huge. She has been in ICU for sixteen days now.

I appreciate the out pouring and the kindness shown here. I posted so I could let off some of the pressure and let those that pray, pray for her and hers. That alone is huge help. My God says in James 5:16 "...effectual fervant prayer of a righteous man availeth much." Kelly and her family desperately need "fervant prayer"

Thank you so much for those prayers !

Lion - can I sit with you ? Flo can I have a cup of Joe ? Just want to sit here and be still for a while and nurse the coffee. Oh little cream and couple of those fake surgar things. Thanks

Garry, UP, Der, Ken, Ulrich....appreciate to your kindness.

Ken - dont give up. Renting you loose the tax deduct and every year rent goes up. That is not a long term solution.

G. Your idea of helping is good - my immediate thought was much as RoR's - what about GoFundMe as it can have a much wider reach, I get that you would like YGW to know we Diner denizens appreciate him - but it's the total effectiveness I'm thinking about. In all likelyhood medical expanses will be a mountain - but as someone said, let's find out from YGW. I'd be comfortable sending funds via PayPal BTW, once the target for them is established.

Later gang - busy day.

Hey, Guys:

Good morning:

I have both emailed YGW at his regular email, and PM'd him here to find out about any other existing funding projects going on.

BUT: I think we can do ourselves a good deed and take up a collection for his SIL's family here, exclusively from us, to show him what a caring bunch of guys we are. You guys trusted me to raise for Ulrich and our beloved Jeffrey, for whom this diner was renamed, I think  I can handle it if we get something going. I helped raise over $2500 for Jeffrey's roof repairs, and over $1k for Ulrich's needed glasses.

Our  estemeed Steve Otte never objected to my raising money for Jeffrey's roof, nor for Ulrich's glasses, so I see no problem there.

NO ONE HAS to contribute, if you can't or don't want to, that is fine.

I have survived both a house fire in the middle of the night, and a separate Home invasion breakin, where they break in while you are home, threaten and/or harm you with a weapon, and clean you out. I have an appreciation for what she must have gone trough, though I survived relatively unscathed.

AS I posted before, I received a late donation for Ulrich's glasses after I had already wired the funds to him, and was instructed to " If it's too late for Ulrich, keep it for the next needed effort". I see that effort now!!! I will have to look up who was the generous sole and let him know what the $100 is now being used foor, as I still have ALL the records and envelopes and letters from the fundraising efforts previously.

I will match the $100,and that makes it now $200. I will keep you posted as the funds collect, if they materialize, keeping your private information intact.

I know that the economy is not the best, the holidays are upon us, and belt tightening has happened everywhere. WE ourselves, after buying the house, and having the contractor in, the electrician in and the plumber in, plus purchases for the house, are about broke, but I have found the matching funds for YGW's SIL.I wouldn't want anyone to jeopardize their own budget for a contribution, but any donations will, I am sure, be greatly appreciated by the family. YGW may be very surprised at how much of a caring bunch we are!

FOr those who have my old address, it HAS CHANGED, BUT: IF you use the old address, it WILL still be delivered there at the old address until Jan 31, 2016, or forwarded to me at the new address, but if everyone PM's me, or emails me if you know my regular email, I will give you the NEW  PERM. ADDRESS. I only ask that everyone keeps the anonymity and privacy, if exposed, of those who wish to keep it here on the site!

A single collection delivered all at once will be more beneficial than little bits and pieces here and there. YGW is a very busy man right now, and might not have the time to process the bits and pieces. Also, I thought about collecting things like clothing, and toothbrushes/toothpaste, soap, etc, BUT: They will be able to buy WHAT they want and need with cash funds. I know I received donations of clothing and such after the house fire, but the cash fund, as raised by my co-workers {this was pre-internet days}, helped me out much greater than the donations of clothing did.

Lets band together for our brother in trains, YGW.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

AS BUdda said: Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.

Let us BE a "thousand candles" {us individually} steming from "one candle" {this site} To spread SOME kind of happiness to the family in this hour of need. It will not "decrease us"!!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer please

YGW I am so sorry to hear about your SIL, I am glad they caught the Son Of Female Dogs. To bad we still don't have stoning in the states.

BoS Update Just recived about 30 pages of junk from them. Seems they want to do a home inspection before they do the new loan? Now that is what my wife said, she opned it up before I got home. If she is right I am screwed, house needs $15,000 to $40,000 worth of work. I did ask about a home equality loan when I applied but my credit score was to low at 668.

Will read the paper work at work Tuesday. Good chances my wife was wrong or knowing BoS they sent the wrong paper work. Right now I feel like bailing on the house and get a cheap apartment.

Gary Yes at times I really miss the old job!

RideOnRoad

Before we start sending money to pGalaxy, it would be worth checking with YGW to see if there is already a ”Go-Fund-Me" or similar account ready set up.

I tried sengig him a PM from my phone here, but won't go through. I also have his email. I will find out. If there is outrage from the community in which she lives, probably is.,I will have to wait until tomorrow at the computer.

Even if there iS a GFM account, we can still do our own just from his Train MRR buddies, so he/ she will know how much we appreciate him here.

Just an idea,if it dies out here, I tried at least instead of sitting idly by.

Nobody HAS to contribute here.

If we can do it for our beloved Jeffrey wimberly for a new roof afo for Ulrich's glasses, I think we can and should for YGW's family!

Before we start sending money to Galaxy, it would be worth checking with YGW to see if there is already a ”Go-Fund-Me" or similar account ready set up.

OK guys, I have started the fund with the $100 and added to it.

This is for yougottawants' SIL's family.

PM me if you want to contribute, those of you who have saved my address it HAS changed!!!!!!

I have survived a house fire( electrical) and separately a Home invasion ( they break in while you are home, and in my case nailed me the floor after knocking me over the head and held a large hunting knife to my throat).

So I know what devastating effects Can be for such events, but no where near what his SIL survived!

PM for my new address to send contributions to, lets see if we can really make a difference!!!!

Thanks, let us remember the less fortunate as we celebrate ourholidays!

Thanks for any help no matter how small you think it is!

OK guys, listen up:

A few weeks after I sent off the funds to Ulrich for his glasses someone sent an additional $100.00, and said if it was too late for Ulrich, keep it until someone else needs something.

What do you we do something, anything for YGW' s SIL?

FlowerS, clothing, presents for the kids for late Xmas, or New Years, or household goods, or medical bills? I can once again start a fund with the $100 dollars and we can build on top of that.

WHAT SAY YOU ALL?

Let me know immediately what you think here or in PM's if it is working.

Thanks guys, our be bright, but theirs is dim.

Awaiting replies
