Good morning. It's 64° with 92% humidity. It'll be cloudy with a chance of rain. The high will be 78°.

Nothing special planned for today. Just continue to straighten up the layout. Van battery was run down again yesterday. I charged it enough to get the engine started then turned on everything then disconnected the battery. It kept running without missing a lick, headlights on, flashers going, wipers on, interior lights on. So the problem isn't the alternator or regulator. Shut everything down then charged the battery to full. I then disconnected it. I'll reconnect it when I need to go somewhere. If there's no drop in the charge I'll know something in the van is running it down. However if it goes down while disconnected I'll know the problem is the battery itself.

Gas here is $3.54 with the store's own credit card. I stopped using it so I pay a bit more with cash..seems strange that way doesn't it?

Grocery shopping/Wally world shopping is done.

Playing My Publisher's Clearing House Lotto games.....doubt I'll ever win anyting but ffree to play...They take time to load so I can type here in between. IF I coudl type that is...

What is up the electrical charges? I doubt we can change them {was it Barry who siad that?} The NYSEG company was actually sold to the Spaniards with the government agreement that they wouldnt raise prices. so they waited a year, THEN raised prices. We knew it was goona happen! The fortunate thing is we don't pay for electicty whne it is out, but we pay with frozen pipes during the winter, and swelter for days on end in the summer. They have us, as they say, over a bafrrel as they are the deliverers of the supply lines, while you can pick any company you want to be your supplier. So they don't have to get your supply lines running again soon if they want to. Sneeky that way.

Todd- Its always a shame when someone sends you a gift they thought would be "nice" or worse yet "perfect" for you and on the cheap, while you spend more and think more on it for them. BUT it is the spirit of giving that counts not the amount! You should know that by now. Wink That is my {cheap } gift to you.

Nope, didn't win anything onthe Lotto computer.

Typical, back is killing me so soon I go lie down.

Make today a SPECIAL day for someone!

Will it do it?! Gas last night was $3.04. They said last Spring, early Summer gas would hit the $2 mark by Christmas. Could they be right? The Mayan’s never said anything about gas prices, so I don’t know.  They didn’t say how far into the two’s, could just be 2.99 but I’ll still take it. Yup.

Lowest price here is $3.15

Good Morning all,

5 days, 14 hours, and 43 minutes until Christmas.

4-day weekend resulted in: disassembled, cleaned, painted, reassembled sixteen 52-6 gondolas.  Researched, type set, and printed new reporting marks and decals for the gondolas.  I made mold of various 100 pound sacks and a mold of banded lumber and a propane tank.  I hope to decal and clear coat the gondolas this week and post a few pictures.   I did spend way too much time cleaning the work area and doing laundry and other menial tasks that took away from my train time.

Fergie, good to see you back in the diner.

Ken, where was that EM1 picture taken?

Watch those infrared heaters.  They are good heaters but if they are the ones that project an infrared beam they tend to ignite things.

Galaxy, I had a bit of an issue a few years ago, to the point the electric company required me to go through their lawyers for anything including power outages.  I challenged their rate/KWH due to the huge delivery charges.  It’s amazing what will happen when you send letters to every elected official and the PUCO.  In the end my city established a co-op electric plan and my bill went from $200/month to $60/month.  A well written letter without any anger, just facts goes a long way.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and Mongolian Beef please. Thank you.

High of 45 today and mostly sunny. Well until about noonish when it starts to get cold and rain/s**w mix.

Yup.

Garry- I liken those who don’t like the diner to those in the world who don’t like my living room floor. I suggest you don’t come in but your still welcome to not like it. Funny though, usually the threads where the diner is ranted about ( and I took this comment not as ranting or complaining, but just a lighthearted jab no real ill will intended. From either person actually) as being a waste of space for having anything to do with Model Railroading and ranting, usually have nothing to do with Model railroading either Hm.

Like I said though I didn’t take either person to be slamming. One just chuckled about it, the other just stated he didn’t read it. No problem. Hey at least there’s no drive to have it removed. Remember when it was just sooooo hard to NOT read every thread, even the ones they knew weren’t of interest, and the ones that weren’t up to their interests should be removed? At least everyone let’s each have their own little slice of the yard.

Ooops! Actually I never noticed who said what on the thread either (I do now). I’m gonna go ahead and leave my opinion up because, well, I didn’t take it bad in the first place, so I don’t think I’ve made wrong assumptions. Besides, ya gotta admit….we have been known to rant a bit.

I'm still gonna take the burger though. Hey, free's free. Make it a cheesbeurger with creamy coleslaw and a deli thin slice of ham please.

Terry- Sorry about your FIL. Prayers for him and , as usual, your sons continued safety as with all our troops.

Hey Fergie! Good to see you’re still afloat.

Today is my Christmas shopping day. Countdown is over and it’s time to…(gulp)…. shopSigh. Should be easy this year as I know what I’m gonna get her. Brenda that is. Missy is easy as anything she can eat is just fine. Now, only problem would be if they were out and I’d have to find another. Then I’d be up a creek and really have to shop. Too late to get the rice cooker by Christmas and I really don’t think she’s up for another kitchen thing. As for Suki, just my presence and smiling face is fine with her. Well that and an extra dollar. Why can’t all women be that easy to pleaseSigh.

I don'y really mind the gift giving, it's the expectation I have a problem with. Seems anymore it's not the thought that counts, it's what they think they should get that counts. Me, I'm happy with whatever you get me, even if it's socks. But when I get a package of socks and a pair of jeans, and you get a $500 item, then say "you didn't get me much, just one thing" it kinda busts my Christmas spirit real quickGrumpy

First to see if Ziva’s there then…..Walmart and beyond.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good Morning Gents!

Dark Roast and a Oat Grain Danish please

Thanks for the warm welcome form some of the old crowd, always appreciated.

Howie: thanks for grabbing the tab!

As for me well I'm still banging around on the High Seas and working on the MESS. I'm also now going to the gym Dead... Lovely!

I'm Hoping big changes are in store for the MESS this winter (If they don't haul me off of leave). Yes I'm ridding myself of the 24" curves and going to 30" So the Layout will have to be cut down the centre and widened... Haven't decided whether to do it with a chain saw or Swede Saw. Chain saw would be quicker!

Anyway I'll try to visit more often.

Later Fergie

Morning Coffee and donuts in the Diner...

GOOD MORNING!!!

Only 6 more shopping days til Christmas!!

Often, people tell their children "you never had it so good"...so

Meaning:

A quotation by Harold Macmillan, British Prime Minister

Origin:

In 1957, Harold Macmillan made a speech in Bedford, UK to his fellow Conservatives, in which he offered the opinion that:

"Let us be frank about it: most of our people have never had it so good".

In the speech he celebrated the success of Britain's post-war economy while at the same time urging wage restraint and warning against inflation. He was mimicking the line of the US Democratic Party which used 'You never had it so good' as a slogan in the 1952 US election campaign. That slogan may have been picked up from popular idiomatic usage in the US, as this piece from the US newspaper The Sunday Morning Star, September 1945 indicates:

We used to have a little joke in the Army, when GIs were griping, "What are you complaining about? You never had it so good in your life."

The line remains one of the few things that many British people now remember of Macmillan.

In KEN'S Case, BOS cannot get "blood from a stone', SO:

Meaning:

You cannot extract what isn't there to begin with

Origin:

First recorded in Giovanni Torriano's Second Alphabet, 1662:

"To go about to fetch bloud out of stones, viz. to attempt what is impossible." {OLD ENGLISH}.

The prayer candles will be lit as long as we are home

Make it a Great day!!

Pay it Forward..MAKE someone's day!!!

Good Morning!

December 19th and only two more days till the end of the world Whistling

Zoe, I´ll have coffee and a bowl of cereal, please.

Ken - I know exactly how you feel. When foreclosure of my house was inevitable, we started to look for a place to live a long time before we´d run the risk of eviction. We found a place which was within the budget and had the time to vamp it up a little to make it "livable" for us. It was sad to leave the house, which had been home for us for nearly 15 years, which we had designed ourselves. It was a nice place, carefully furnished, with a well-kept garden to it. It broke my heart when we left it. When I turned over the keys, I nearly collapsed. Somehow I survived ...

I know there will be better times ahead for you, even if the outlook appears to be bleak at the moment!

Have a good one , y´ all!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Pleases.

Work Front again a uneventful day. That all so means I did not make any thing extra to speak off. I m hoping Wednesday will be a good day.

Gary Boy I wishes another bank would give be a loan, but they would have to be Stupid to do it. I all ready have a Stupid Bank! Paul from GA (site member) gave me the name of his banker that helped him when I was having problems. Steve and I had a nice chat and he told me I was pretty much screwed. No other bank will touch my loan till it has been current for 12 months. That was before I was this far behind.

Like I said, Sue and I have resolved our self's that we are going to be moving. Wost part is not knowing when we will have to move and if we will have a places to move to?

I will fight Bank Of Stupid for ever inches of ground!

Vince I will PM you Thursday. I am 85% sure I will take the SD 7. The SD40-2 is yours, never really like that engine anyway. Whistling Body all wise seemed to short for the chassis.

  See you all Wednesday!

That mudslide was predictable. There were obvious signs of soil slippage immediately to the left of where the mudslide occurred. Add the vibration from a heavy freight train and given the wet weather, what happened was no suprise.

Good thing the engine crew had made it past the location of the slide before it happened.

Hope some cost cutting senior manager's rear end got kicked hard.

Hey y'all, just stopping in for the night before I try to head off to check for leaks in my eyelids.  Tomorrow is my day off from w**k, which means I'll be doing side jobs!  Its all right though, I enjoy what I do, which is as important as the income it brings..  Plan on trying to get myself up and moving so that I can have at least one of the jobs knocked out by lunch, but Amy wants to get up with me and come on in too so she can run errands whilst I spin wrenches, so we'll see how that works out.

Well, I think I'm going to get going for now, although since i see Rich is running the burger flipper, I'll take  a bacon double cheese burger with lettuce, tomato, light splat of mayo and bbq sauce.  I'll eat it here at the rivet counter and ponder things!

We WERE Thinking of getting a one of those fancy Infared heaters that "are cheap to run"

And to think I just bought one today!!! Actually, I had to do something so that I can stand to work in the layout room in the basement. MOH turns the gas fireplace on in the afternoon when she's watching her TV programs which means the furnace does not run at all. That leaves me shivering in the layout room. Hence the fancy schmancy heater.

It works really well, soooo, we'll see what this month's power bill goes to.

And here they say we Have "plenty of natural gas of our own",,,so much so the country is exporting it! and it is getting MORE expensive here to have it...makes one wonder!

They know you need it and will probably pay through the nose to get it. It's gotten so ridiculous here that both of our rental trailers have been converted to all-electric. My little trailer has been all-electric since 1995.

Electricity rates from NYSEG, or a competitor supplier are sky high here..we supposedly get a "niagra falls" Hydro-generated discount...a whole $4-$5 a month!!! {we have a few Nuclear power plants around too} We are, I think, #3 highest electrical rates, behind Californy and Hawaii. If not #3, we are #4 then.

Without going on a rampage here, {Note rant follows}:  Nat gas drilling {Hydro fracking} I have mentioned before. We will have a Nat Gas "metering station" 3/4 a mile from my house. The ONLY ones who want fracking here is the land owners who will get royalties $$$$$ off it and don't want to farm anymore. The local gov'ts and the state gov't has their eye only on the money too. The State IS doing a fair job of doing studies to determine the safety of it. Those of us who are poor shmucks and don't own vast acreages of land with mineral rights are only concerned about the health impacts and environmental impacts. AND the fact that it WILL impact the environment {as proved in other cities/towns/counties/states } is lost on those who want the almighty dollar.

There are those who say they've had a gas well near them for 30 years ago..WHOLE 'NOTHER program there...than Fracking.

I WOULD/COULD be interested IF it benefited me....HOW? Eliminate all my; local, state income, property and sales taxes; Make my NAT gas so cheap I can heat my home  and hot water for $100 OR LESS a YEAR MAXIMUM for unlimited usage..Make it so I can drive a Nat gas car for $100 Or less a year.....and get Nat gas all across the country for the car for the same $100/yr. Keep the roads in GREAT SHAPE {not just good or the lousy shape they are now}. DO all that and I MIGHT be interested.

We can't affrod to run Electrical heat. Using the electrical oil-filled radiator type raised our monthly budget amount after the A/Cs were shut off and it wasn't time for the furnace to work {before the $1025.00 repairs}} SO now we don't use it at all. We WERE Thinking of getting a one of those fancy Infared heaters that "are cheap to run" {cough cough} but we can't afford an extra $30-$40 a month they said it would 'ONLY cost'  to add the warmth it would add...better off with the NAT gas...and WE qualify for HEAP {Home Energy Assistance Program} for that to help out with our heating bill for the Nat Gas only.

OK, rant over  SoapBox away...

Have a great night fellas, see you in the Morning...though we may sleep in again tomorrow...

Flo's not talking to me, and Zoe has given me two choices: wash dishes or flip burgers.

So, when you order your burgers, let me know if you want all the fixins'.   Embarrassed

I'll have a cheeseburger, well done with everything but tomato, sweet potato fries and a medium Dr Pepper.

Got the box of donated train cars in the closet and I'm now slowly working on getting the layout straightened up. I haven't yet sorted through the eleven cars I cleaned up and fitted with Kadee couplers. Some I'll keep and some I'll let go. I've already decided the Toys R Us boxcar is staying! I first saw one years ago and decided I wanted one but never got it. Now I have one that's in good condition.

Hiya, Fergie!!

Long time -no see!

What's new?

PFC Son Facebooked us on Sunday, good to hear from him. He says all is well , "thanks for the comments " and "hi back atcha " to you all. He's pretty busy, but said he'd write. I did kinda shame him into that.

Been running trains, doing upkeep and some scenery downstairs. Seems like there's not enough time in a day this time of year. Not spending near enough time on that stuff, maybe it'll change after the 1st. Hope so.

Real busy at work, but that's a good thing in my business! I've got contracts signed through 8/13!!

I see Jeff's car shops have been busy ,too!

Robyn's ( MOH) dad's having a tough time. He's had vein replacement surgery on both legs, docs aren't sure it took ,may lose them. He's now fighting an infection. Not good. No diabetes, just poor ( really poor) circulation. We're  supposed to go visit this weekend and I've picked up a cold. Rob will go regardless, but I'd like to see him, too. Might not be a good idea for me to go.

Sorry for the downer!

On the upside, grandson # 2's b-day was last week (1yr). We sent him "THE MOST ANNOYING TOY EVER" according to my daughter. I love being a grandpa!!

Hope things get better for those that need'm to!
