OK, here's the deal.

Flo's not talking to me, and Zoe has given me two choices: wash dishes or flip burgers.

So, when you order your burgers, let me know if you want all the fixins'.   Embarrassed

Garry, et al, that crack about the Diner was strictly in jest, absolutely no offense intended.  An ill-fated attempt at humor in a light hearted attempt to dismiss the entire thread which should not have been posted in the first place.  I agree with with Ulrich on the main point, and that is that there is no need to attack the forum as the OP did.  Now the question is, will Flo serve me in the future?   Zip it!

And here they say we Have "plenty of natural gas of our own",,,so much so the country is exporting it! and it is getting MORE expensive here to have it...makes one wonder!

They know you need it and will probably pay through the nose to get it. It's gotten so ridiculous here that both of our rental trailers have been converted to all-electric. My little trailer has been all-electric since 1995.

Afternoon guys

Jeff, Is that one of those life-like 100-ton hoppers? I've been trying to find a bunch of those (to repaint into BN), but they seem to be harder to come across then the MDC high-side thrall gondolas in BN.

BN24, SP&S is kind of a small railroad. I only know of a couple of people who model it. In HO there are quite a bit of diesels, but there is something offered in N-scale that makes me kind of envious. THey have a conversion kit to convert the con-cor rivarossi challenger into a Z-8 Challenger (owned by both the SP&S and NP):
http://www.ghqmodels.com/store/55012.html
IDK what the difference is between a Z-6 and a Z-8. SP&S had 2 Z-8s and 6 Z-6s. Personally I'm looking to get a Bowser C636 in an SP&S patch whenever they come out (and 2 BN green ones)

Ken, Understood. Hope you get the house issue resolved.

thanks Packer I'll favorite this link so when I find a cheap challenger I can make one. yeah the 636 seems pretty popular to have as an SP&S loco, have you seen this vid?

Yes. I have two of them, Peabody and C&O. Both have body mounted kadee couplers. The wheels however are plastic but aren't pizza cutters. I have one more of these hoppers I think but it doesn't have couplers.

We are not sending out cards this year, as the cost is prohibitive for us. No tree, no cards - no Christmas?

You can't even afford a tree like mine? It's only six inches tall.

Well,

The pulmonologist went well..he is pleased I lost 10 Lbs since last visit.!

We had a strange Christmas/Christianity/Santa Claus/St Nicholas/political correctness conversation with him. He is of  Muslim persuation, and is very open minded. We had a frank discussion about how similiar Judaism, Muslim, and Christianity is {at least our Old Testament an their holy books}. JUST mentioning The interesting converstion we had,  guys, the subject is not open for debate here!. Wink

Went shopping for a gift for some friends. Disappointed in the the wares available to say the least! NOTHING caught our eye, and the Food stuffs Gift packages are too expensive for what one gets! AGAIN,NOT open for debate here, JUST mentioning it!

Then after the business with UPS YESTERDAY. I get a Health care package today from a Medicare purveyor, and Low and behold, UPS has done it agian. First, they couldn't find it 1.5 weeks, then they decide to send a note. I got that yesterday. I called and gave them explicit directions YET AGAIN!!! ANd toady it arrives, damaged, shredded on one end, OPENED and INCOMPLETE onthe other!!! Bang Head, I will call UPS and ask for the highest supervisor I can get,...no wait!!!! I will go to the LOCAL OFFICE and complain in person!!! They can't hang up on me then!!!! GRR Bang Head

that woulda never happened with Fed ex.

Jeffrey- Considering the options you sent!

WEll, off for a nap now.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Fergie - good to see you again, you have been miss, y´ know!

What a day - the doc appointment went quite well, but the meeting with that dentist lady was a painful affair. It´s improving now, so it won´t keep me awake this night.

Got some mileage covered with the assembly of the kit. The frame and the gearbox are completed, but it was a heck of a job! The gearbox took nearly 3 hours to assemble.

Here are some pics:

Ray - I thought there must be a little more than just a wire and two plugs to that cord, but the price still seems stiff.

Ken - keeping my fingers crossed for your house issue!

I saw that thread about the forum and was a little miffed. If the OP does not like what he sees here, well, nobody is really forcing him to participate. Left my My 2 Cents there.

Tomorrow, latest on Thursday, I will start on the assembly of the loco body - I expect this to be fun, including burnt fingers Smile, Wink & Grin

Mornin' everyone!

Fergie!!!  Good to see you sir.  Hope you have been well and not weathering too many storms at sea or on land!

Zoe, I take care of Fergies tab.  I'll have a bowl the organic Oatmeal with flax seed, some brown sugar, and lots of the dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug.  Thank you Ma'am.

Galaxy, only thing I have to take issue with is that the solstice in tradition form marks "Mid Winter" not the start of Winter....  The ancients had it right.  Even a couple hundred years ago they still used a "correct calender" such as the song "In the Bleak Mid Winter", Words: Christina Rossetti, 1872. Music: Gustav Holst, 1906.  Shakespeare also had it right with "A Mid Summer Night's Dream" which was written for the Summer Solstice.  I don't care what some modern miss-interpreter gave us last century..... Whistling LOL  I have a good supply of "Tin Foil" for my hats this week.  I should be OK at the end.....  Smile, Wink & GrinLaugh

Curt, I have no idea how long the batteries will last in the plug in Prius...  If they are as good as they ones in the regular Prius, they should outlast the car, at least up North around here... LOL  I do know that when I bought the Yaris in 2008 I was told that with over 1,000,000 Prius Hybrids on the road, only about 10 had needed to get the battery changed out.  Those were done under warranty as well.  They do publish a "best practices" list that supposedly will help keep the batteries in good shape for the life of the car.  In fact from what I have heard, in a few years there may be a better battery pack that will just drop in to replace the one in the car that will give considerably more range to the electric mileage. The battery is rated for 10,000 charge cycles.  If I charge every day that would give me over 27 years...  Not worried, shall I say.

Ulrich, in all honesty the cord is a bit more than just some wires with a plug on each end...  There are some sophisticated electronics in line and the J1772 plug is not "off the shelf item" either.  I expected it to be a few hundred dollars, just not a G note!

Barry, we have more of the Cannuck weather here this morning...  Thanks!  Dark, gray, and gloomy outside with liquid sunshine every now and then.  Currently 43°F...

Checked my Credit Card this morning, and it didn't roll over last night like it is supposed to.  Guess the rest of the Christmas shop[ping will have to wait until tomorrow... Grumpy

Have a good one!

Today is Tuesday, the 18th of December!

Only 4 more days til the WORLD ENDS!

ahhh, galaxy, if only that were true.

But, alas, unfortunately, we have less time than that.

In fact, according to the official counter, we now have less than 3 days.

I was going by the fact of the time of the solstice arriving.

Dec. 21, 2012, 7:11 AM EST (11:11 UT), marks the solstice—the beginning of   winter in the Northern Hemisphere and summer in the Southern Hemisphere

So, including  today, tomorrow. Thursday, and into Friday at 7:11 AM EST, I counted 4 days.

Well, I am scheduled to have a tooth pulled that day,s o maybe not?

We are going ot be off shopping here soon then off to the pulmonolgist.

Then home for a nap, I am sure.

Good morning, Diners.  I missed a week or so.  We operated on a friends layout on Saturday.  It was a mining operation.  What a fun time.  The details on his layout have motivated me to get cracking on our layout.  I am just about ready to start the tar paper roof on my car shop.

Later,  Sue

Good morning. It's 38° with 100% humidity. It'll be partly cloudy with a high of 72°.

This morning I installed body mounted Kadee #5 couplers on a Life-Like Peabody 100 ton hopper. This will be the last for a while as I'm now out of supplies to do so. The remaining cars have been placed back in the box they came in and it'll be put in the closet for now.

Sometime today, I know not when, my father and I will go to town to get some Christmas shopping done. This will be for much needed clothing only. There won't be anything even faintly resembling model railroad items from any family member.

Time to get about the days activities.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and an order of biscuits and gravy please. Thank you.

Yesterday, sleet turned to s**w. No accumulation except on cars, but it did make the grass white for about oh….an hour, maybe less, after it stopped. Today, supposed to be sunny and 50.

Jeremy- Sorry about the job. Kinda sucks this time of year.

Galaxy- Soooooo, they send the card saying they can’t find your address, to…. The address they…can’t find. What, are they hoping to follow the US mail truck? We have several people in town here who make the same complaint but it’s about FedEx and say UPS finds them just fine. This guy says they actually told him his address doesn’t exist and they’ll need a good address. He said that was his address and I guess they replied the address did not exist and they couldn’t deliver unless he gave them a good address. Somehow and I don’t recall how, he got his package. Road flares I’m guessing. One gal actually tells FedEx to “give it to the brown trucks. They have no problem finding me.”

My problem is the sensationalism they (the media) give the shootings. Seems it gives these whack jobs a reason to one up each other. I realize there are some mental issues involved, so maybe whack job isn’t the best term for all, but then again, not all mental patients kill either. I read something posted by Morgan Freeman that made a lot of sense to me. He said pretty much the same thing.

Do these countdowns assume the Mayans foresaw leap year? Cause if they don’t, then well, the calendar ended last Spring. Somehow I think not. Besides, if they coulda seen the end of the world coming, you’d a thought they’d a seen the Spanish coming and hid better.  What I think happened was the guy who made the calendar lurched backwards from his calender making and said “Ooooh my!!!!! CRAMP!! I'm done. Yup done. Can't do this anymore. Nope. They'll have to get someone else and if not.... Oh well.  THIS one oughta be long enough anyway. I’m outta here.” This is the way history is recorded folks. Reasoning. Pure and simple reasoning.

Speaking of countdowns, countdown is one day til Christmas shopping for me. Today I gotta put a sink in at the restaurant and of course put the groceries away, then w**k.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Morning Coffee in the Diner with friends...

GOOD MORNING!!!

Today is Tuesday, the 18th of December!

Only 4 more days til the WORLD ENDS!

I thought "A1 at Lloyds" meant Lloyd's of London Insurance at the top rates, but NOT: SO:

Meaning:

The highest quality.

Origin:

The phrase was originally literal in nature, as A1 at Lloyd's was a category of ship in Lloyd's Register of Shipping, which used an alphanumeric code to classify ships for insurance purposes. A1 denoted the highest quality vessels. The classification was defined in the Register itself:

"The character A denotes New ships, or Ships Renewed or Restored. The Stores of Vessels are designated by the figures 1 and 2; 1 signifying that the Vessel is well and sufficiently found."

The name Lloyd's comes from Edward Lloyd, the proprietor of a London coffee house that he opened in Tower Street in 1688, later moving to Lombard Street. Lloyd encouraged a clientele of ships' captains, merchants and ship owners and provided printed sheets containing information about shipping as a service to them. Edward Lloyd died in 1713 but the business continued and in 1760 some of the customers formed into the Register Society. In 1764 they printed the first Register of Ships, as a reference resource for the insurance and shipping businesses. The international insurance market, Lloyd's of London, also has its roots in Lloyd's coffee house, but is otherwise unrelated to Lloyd's Register.

The organisation became Lloyd's Register of British and Foreign Shipping in 1834, when the first classification rules were published, and it is from that date that we can say the phrase was coined.

The owners of vessels were soon at pains to advertise any ship that was given the highest classification, as in this ad from 1859 in the New Zealand newspaper The Daily Southern Cross.

Now or the REAL Lloyd's Of London:

Lloyd's of London, styled simply as Lloyd's, is a British insurance and Reinsurance market. It serves as a partially mutualized marketplace where multiple financial backers,Underwriters, or members, whether individuals (traditionally known as Names) or corporations, come together to pool and spreadrisk. Unlike most of its competitors in the industry, it is not a company but it is a corporate body under the Lloyd's Act 1871 of theParliament Of the United Kingdom. Uberrimae Fides {Latin  for "of the utmost good faith") is the motto of Lloyd's

In 2011, over £23.447 billion of gross premium (£22.592 billion in 2010) was transacted in the Lloyd's Market, but on aggregate the market made a loss (beforetax) of £516 million (£2,195 million Profit in 2010) . TheLloyd's Building, where the market is based, is located at 1 Lime Street in the City of London.

The market began in  Lloyd's Coffee House, opened by Edward Lloyd around 1688 in Tower Street, London. This establishment was a popular place for sailors, merchants, and ship owners, and Lloyd catered to them with reliable shipping news. The shipping industry community frequented the place to discuss deals among themselves, including insurance. Just after Christmas 1691, the coffee shop relocated to Lombard Street (a blue plaque commemorates this location). This arrangement carried on until 1774, long after Lloyd's death in 1713, when the participating members of the insurance arrangement formed a committee and moved to the Royal Exchange on Cornhill as The Society of Lloyd's.

Good Morning!

Yesterday, I was to busy working on my political career to drop by. The number of supporters is rising steadily. As it seems now, my nomination is secure!

Today will be a busy day as well. In a couple of hours I will go to see my doc about the respiratory problems I still have, following is an appointment with my dentist. In the afternoon I will start assembling that loco kit of mine at my friend´s place. We hope to be able to finish the chassis and the gearbox today.

Zoe, I´ll have a coffee and a breakfast bagel, please!

Ray -  $ 925 for a length of wire and two plugs? They must be kidding! $ 92.50 seems to be appropriate for that.

Ken - I am sorry to hear about your ongoing troubles with the BoS. It´s been in your back for how long now? Must be three years. I do hope everything will still turn our right for you.

Without getting deeper into the subject, I do hope that politics will draw the necessary conclusions out of the Sandy-Hook-School shooting and initiate appropriate action to protect our children. We had a number of similar incidents in Germany in recent years, and some laws have been changed and a central firearms register has been set up.

Our prayers remain with the victims and their families.

Have a good day!

Evening All,

jeffery-wimberly, thanks Jeff, from your description I guess I have the Tyco version.

Packer, thank you also for your reply Vincent. I see you refer to your "cheap  weathering". To my mind you have just reinforced my thinking that "Cheap" can be very good. Thumbs Up

Thoughts and Best Wishes to All that need them.

Cheers, the Bear.

 Evening Folks

Flo, why thank you for the Beer

Did a internet search for helping me fight the Bank Of Stupid today. Found a foundation called Making Homes Affordable today and gave them a call. While I am not holding my breath, they have gave me a little hope.

First big + is it is a VA backed loan. Then like my self my Rep Katie did not understand what my credit ratting had to do with a loan modification, a refinances yes, modification, No! So Thursday her and I will have a confreres call with my BoS rep Lashenia Lowery and see if they did my application correctly.

They will all so get me a free local paralegal to sift through the Legal BS form BoS. Best news, in Illinois it takes 12 to 15 months to foreclose on a house.

While I am ready to get the heck out of here and not let the door hit me in the Cabooses! I would like it more on my terms after I find the right places or as closes as I can get on my income.

Vince's I will try to find time to PM you in the next few days. I sure you understand I have other things on my mind right now.

Ken
