Thayne - Hamburg is one pretty city. Maybe not as picturesque as Munich, Heidelberg and the likes, but where else do you get a big lake with sailboats on it right in the middle of town. Of course, the harbor adds a lot of flavor as well. Yes, and there are some pretty gals around. What Hamburg does not have is mountains, and that so-called typical German oompah-band gemutlichkeit, which is, in fact, Bavarian only. Folks in Hamburg are pretty straight forward, but hearty, with an air of British  snobbery to them.

Petra and I moved up north about 25 years ago, shortly after our son was born, and we have never regretted it.

Well, Toto, follow the yellow brick road...

Morning Coffee in the Diner

GOOD MORNING!!!

Bill has provided the date

We ARE still in Kansas..but My bookmarks have returned to an OLDER version, so I don't have all my links as to where we are now! I will have to re-lookup my links and see where we are next!

Special Thoughts and Prayers for those in need. Other than being out and running an errand this morning, the prayer candle will be lit all day!!!

Oh...to he who suggested using the older keyboard..we thought it best to relegate it to the "breakdown file" in case this one fails...it was 7 years old and banged upon a  lot.....we can then test it to see if it will operate the new computer..it SHOULD {until we buy another new one!} Won't make a difference then!

Garry~ I do have a small {very small} HO layout I tore down to tracks only with the idea of expanding it just a little bit, but haven't been able to do that yet. There really is less room in the train/junk room to do so. I also have a small table top under the table top tree layout {40"x40"} that has a circle of HO and  two circles of N scale on it. MOH tends to use it as a dumping ground for "stuff" as we have no place to store it.Since the N scale is for MOH, I can't really argue.... happy OH, Happy life!

I will let y'all know later today where in Kansa we are TOTO...

Good Early Morning...

We are going to see a mix of sun and cloud with scattered showers here and there...yep...them days of the semi-permanent umbrella attached to the backpack are with us again...

Today Audrey is getting her hair done and I am having my feet checked out...not that I've noticed anything....yet.

Maybe, a little later on I might get a chance at running some choo choo's....

As for friend...we did a couple of quick runs for him to various stores and such to clear up bills etc...pretty sad evening all the way around...

Uh oh. Blownout Barry is here,,,I am sure Jeffrey will be along shortly to moderate again too!

I had better sit up straight, and mind that my peas are lined up in a  queue!

With the addition of new members here in the diner, I should do my job as a reminder of the

DINER RULES: {simple}

~everyone is WELCOMED TO POST HERE!

~ here you can talk about Off Topic stuff like what is going on in your life.

~ STAY AWAY from topics of Politics or religion or other inflamatory "flame war" topics!

~NO FOUL language {this includes squiggles that may represent such {&%$#)}!

~If you post a pic, the Powers that be deny and will remove any "risque Pics"!!

These two above warnings are for the fact that this is a FAMILY site, and we DO have "younger posters" who may read any such and the powers that be won't allow it!

~When posting pics, try to limit it to one or two pics...if you want to post more the WPF {Weekend Photo Fun} thread is designed for that, but the diner thread here takes up a LOT of room already!

~When posting pics, You CAN post pics other than MRRing/railroading stuff..just limit it to the FEW CLEAN pics!

~We have Cousin Vinnie here as a bouncer who will take care of violators..and we have two regulars here who are forum user-mods to oversee here and stick to the rules! As Jeffrey likes to remind us, Vinnie likes to bend and wrap crowbars around necks of "bad" individuals. There are a few sneaky unknown bouncers from the Security department as well..you just never know who they are!

~NO FOOD FIGHTS { you mess it up, YOU clean it up! and the diner may be closed "for repairs in place"{RIP} when this happens!

~The food here is whatever you want and has no calories...so eat up!

~If you get eh top of the page you have to "buy" the ":meals" of every one on the page..you can use a "credit card" {good one and within specified expiry date} to pay for it,. but our wait staff prefer CASH on the barrel head!

~ Speaking of wait staff..no pinching or patting the waitresses! ALSO..TIPS: 15% is normal nad since ours offer GREAT Service {"exactly" to your liking} they should garner a good 18%-20%!!!

~The diner gets moved late on the last day of the month to a new Location for the next month. SO look for the new month's DINER!

I think that about covers it!!!

Have a Great DAY!!!

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a prime rib and scrambled egg with American fries pile please. Yes covered in gravy Thanks.

Jeffrey- Lighting in the picture you posted yesterday was perfect!! Had to save to desktop and blow up to see if it was your layout or some picture from a window.

Jeremy- Rarely will they take the time to check references on someone they have no interest in.

Galaxy- Good you’re back. I’m not keen on the Word for Windows 7. Windows 7 I have no real qualms with. I liked the old Works for win XP, but Works didn’t come with new puter so I take what comes with and deal. And yes I have issues with this keyboard as well.

WHOA!!!! Thanks Chocowillie!! That cont / + things is cool! I’ll remember that as it could have come in handy knowing that before.

Aaaaah Tom’s rendition of a meal at the local diner brings back memories of really not that long ago hereSmile. Had a big table across the back for all the local farmers and retirees to sit in the morning and have breakfast and coffee. We called it the “Liar’s Table”Laugh. Yes I sat there too. Our last restaurant like that closed oh, 5, 6 years ago  replaced by this Italian restaurant, which is fine, I just miss the "regular" food places.

Oh I know, most restaurant chains like Texas Roadhouse I guess, and Lonestar Steakhouse, Golden Corral and even Micky D’s are owned by a local person. Our Huddle House is owned by a girl and her husband who are farmers and grew up here. Known them both since they were kids. But chain restaurants aren’t the same. They don’t feel the same. (shakes head) Just not the same. Like I said there should be room for both. Like Hobby shops. There are plenty of things we can buy locally without ordering off the internet. But the handful of us that go to the LHS first aren’t gonna keep em open, especially off what I buy over the course of a year. Then of course geographically if you are in an area where there is small demand for hobby shop in the first place, the internet is grand. A life saver. We just live in a more convenient filled world. So much easier to cruise the net at our leisure and order what we want, then go about our busy lives until they drop our stuff off at the door. Next thing UPS will offer a "we'll come in and put it away" service so we won’t even have to do that.

Too bad I don’t remember the thing about the jar being full and a couple beers. I’ll have to find that and post it. It’s kinda long though so not today. Bandwidth you know.

Well, I put it off as long as I can, but Brenda is pickin ants out of her pants so today I will attach part of the tile. I’m not pleased with doing this considering my close relationship with Mr Murphy, but unless I can stall again (like last timeWhistling) I’m gonna have do it to keep peace.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good morning. It's 63° with 99% humidity and patchy fog. It'll be partly cloudy with a high of 88°.

Feels real damp outside and not a drop of rain. Fog with high humidity will do that. Feels really weird at times. Nothing special going on today that I know of. My father may have different ideas if he's not working today. I may work on the elevator again today. Can't run any trains as the layout looks a tornado hit it. Add to that there's six silos standing on the track just this side of Ezra's place. Funny sign in mind for that place. 'Ezra's stop and go pizza shop. Stop here for gas'. Maybe someday I'll get around to making it. It looks like we have rain coming in for the weekend. At least it won't be cold. The high is due to be in the 80's until midway through next week.

Good morning, Diners.  I will have a large coffee, please, Chloe.  G has encouraged us to be big tippers today.

Todd - After reading about the "Liar's Table," I know we are talking about the same kind of atmosphere. Besides the regulars. Retired city fire fighters are there the 1st Monday of each month, the Church guys are there on Monday Wednesday & Fridays. They are active in their Parish and their Priest used to be in attendance with them until he was transferred. We even have a group of, let's say very mature ladies from a local Senior citizen Hi-Rise, who have breakfast and then play cards for a couple of hours. I have even seen some of the regulars help out our terrific waitress when she would get really busy by busing tables or getting other customers refills. You just don't see this in chains. I am going to suffer severe withdrawl symptoms when it closes. Especially knowing it isn't replaceable.   Tom

Mornin'!

Zoe, I need coffee!  Dark roast, hot, and in my R&GV RR Mug please.  Upset?  No, just awake way too early this morning waiting for the electrician to arrive and finish the last little item for the solar voltaic system.

I was told they would be arriving sometime this morning to finish the job.  I can then have the Code Officer come over, look at it and say, "Looks OK to me", and then sign off so I can legally live in my house again... Whistling  Soon after that I will have to write a very large check to pay for the balance of the costs.

So far today has been interesting.  Three times so far this morning it has been raining and the sun shining at the same time.  Wind is out of the North so the phenomenon is due to the wind direction and the edge of the clouds.

Todd (and others), here in Geneva we still have 3 or so old time coffee shop/restaurants downtown.  They are all crowded every time I am in them so they are not only appreciated but appear to be doing very well!  The one I usually frequent is owned by the Mom of one of my Boy Scouts from way back when.  Her daughter (also a student of mine) owns another one.  The food at all these places is sooooo much better than the crap served at the chain restaurants, I can't see why people patronize the chains.  We have been sold such a bill of goods.  "We have met the enemy, and they is us"!

We are under a freeze warning here in the Finger Lakes Region for tonight.  Temps will be falling into the mid 20's for several hours overnight.  I will try to get over to the Mennonite stand today to see if they still have any fresh sweet corn out.  Tomorrow will be too late!

Catch you all later!

Well, i am not computer-savvy, so I stumble along. I have heard win7 is FAR better than Win vista, though!

I had to adjust to MSWORD for what was it..2007... when we got this computer form WORD 2000 I think. I TOo, liked WIndows XP and asked, begged, pleaded to have it on this computer, but no-go.

Sigh have to move up with the times I guess. I /we will adjust.

Now, we ahve our own virus protection we like and they installed MCaFee, WHich I asked, pleaded, begged them NOT to do...how do I get it removed? We have ours installed now, but Mcafee is prohibiting sites we know are ok just cause it doesn't "like" them. Yeah yeah I know...go to add/remove programs..but how do I SUCESSFULLY remove it??? And in fact how do I get to add/remove programs..I have trouble with that too! WHen I was educated on computers the internet wasn't yet born or working so my knowlege is old old school and I am "barely computer lit". SO is my Other half!

And how is it that an american brand is "made in china"?? I thought much of Dell was made right cheer, in the good ol' USA? AM I mistaken?

Whew!

 Morning All,

Currently 58 with an expected high of 71 under partly cloudy skies.

I have a closing shift today, so will stop at the hospital in a little while before heading in to work.

Galaxy - I noticed yesterday was 10/11/12, as it was my birthday. On my way into work yesterday my wife called to wish me a happy birthday and said she was off a restricted diet, so she wanted Chinese food to celebrate my birthday. Best preseant yet, she is doing much better.

Been several busy days so no layout work lately. I do have some of the roadbed for more yard tracks glued down, but did not yet lay any more track.

    Prayers to all in nee.

Evening All,

Doing well today. I went to the LHS and shot the breeze for about a hour. We have the skunk show tomorrow so that should be fun.

I need to request everyones prayers that are willing to. There is a FF in my department in ICU that the Docs are not sure is going to survive. He went in with double pneumonia and had to be intubated. He became septic causing his kidney's to start to fail. He has received dialysis then developed a lower GI bleed that has required 4 units of blood. Yesterday before going into surgery his family was informed he probably would not make it through the day. Thankfully he survived the surgery (Abdominal Aorta was bleeding) and the site was repaired. He survived the night but is still in extremely critical condition.

Ulrich- Glad you are feeling better.

Barry- Hope Blackie is doing OK.

Rob- Glad to hear from you again.

Ken- Happy your toe is doing OK.

Chochowillie- If I can spell conputer computer 2 times out of 3 I feel that I am computer savvyLaugh

Jeff- I like the grain tower.

Paul- Glad your wife is doing well. Hopefully she will be released soon.

Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Jeff- I like the grain tower.

Thanks. I still have a long way to go on it. The next big thing will be to scratch build the gallery. That's the part on top of the silos. I have no idea of what I'm going to use for that yet.

Evenin' folks!

Chloe, I'll just have another refill on the decaf for the moment, thanks.

I ran a few errands this afternoon that needed to be done.  Got some ink, mailing labels and recycled a bunch of ink cartridges at Staples, got a couple items at the grocery stare I forgot when i was there a couple days ago, and then headed over to the Mennonite Farm Stand.  They still had sweet corn, although I bet it will be gone after tonight...

I lit the wood stove around lunch time today and it has been keeping the house toasty warm.  Going to get down in the 20's tonight for several hours.  I also got a bit of modeling done on an area of scenery in the rebuild area.

Curt...???  Blackie is my cat.  Spring is Barry's kittie.  His is less than half the size of my cats.  I found out that the loss of hair is probably due to an allergic reaction to fleas!  My cats are both completely indoor cats, but it seems that somehow fleas got brought in (it happens).  So they are both being treated with flea meds.  I sahll see if this does the trick.  Perhaps I now know what the bug bites I would wake up with over the summer might have been....  Not often, but every once in a while I had some bites.....  Hmmmmm?  How are the skunks doing these day?

Curt, I am already keeping your friend in my prayers!  Sounds like he had a bunch of stuff wrong, any one of which could be a major one!

Got to go check the wood stove...

Later!

Evening gangSmile

Zoe my dear, Can I get a pop and slice of cheesecake with a scoop of vanilla on the side? Big Smile

Been sidelined with a bout of cellulitis.  Started Wednesday with some dry, itchy skin on my little toe. By Thursday it hurt to walk and that toe was swollen up almost as big as my big toe!Ick! I called the doc, he couldn't see me til today but he phoned in a scrip for Keflex , which I had filled by noon yesterday. After finishing work yesterday (yes, I'm THAT kind of idiot), I came home, went straight to bed. Went to the doc today, the swelling in the toe went down, but the infection has also traveled halfway up my leg! So I've spent most of the rest of the day with my feet propped up. Bummer! The weekend is here and I got stuff to do,,,outside!! Oh bother!Sigh Of course, with a sore right foot, and with a heel spur on the left, I walk like a drunken duck. So I better not drink Drinks in front of the cops Captain, huh?

Paul,,,,happy belated birthdayHappy B-Day, and the wife's progress was a great present huh?

Curt , I will keep you friend in my prayers

Ray, got the wood stove burning here too. Its 86f in the basement right now, It will cool down in a bit. I have small fans hidden in ductwork that pull warm air upstairs,,,gets the whole house toasty when its freezing outside!

To the rest of you, may you live long and prosper!

Evening All,

It is starting to feel like fall her in Western Nrvada, at least at night and early morning.

Spent all day at the hospital. My wife is doing well, but some of the doc's seem to want to play the one-up-manship game. "She needs this test, and this one," etc. We have said all along we want the oncologist to be notified and approve any and all treatment that she gets. It seems no one talks to anybody else. Anyway I played guard dog untill I talked to the oncooigist. Tests were not done and there were some hurt feelings, but I think we did the right thing.

Curt - prayers for your friend will be coming from here.

Karl - Thanks for the belated b'day wishes, and get that toe looked after.

Prayers to all in need. Gosh my prayer list has certainly grown lately.

 Evening Dinners!

Flo, why thank you for the Beer

Today was nothing special and a pain in the Caboose to boot. So that pretty much covers today.

Curt My toe is looking much better. You must have missed my Thursday post about My Surgeon saying she was going to keep it awhile longer! Smile, Wink & Grin If we can keep the calluses from growing back so I am going to get my shoes refitted. All so prayers for your friend. Angel

Paul, happy belated birthday from me as well! Cake I bet the dinner with your wife really tasted Great!

Been sidelined with a bout of cellulitis.

Karl, really take care of the toe! Would you happen to be Diabetic? As you may have read I am, and a simple callus on my right big toe landed me in the hospital for 6 days, and I was off from work for 5 weeks. About 3 weeks ago the same toe became infected with Cellulitis and last week they wanted to cut it off again! Bang Head (see my posting to Curt above) I use to not give a second thought about my toes, now they are on my mind all the time.

  See you all later.

Morning Coffee in the diner

GOOD MORNING!!!

We are in Abilene Kansas, at the Abilene & Smoky Valley Dinner Train from Abilene Kansas!!! Abilene is located 115 miles from Wichita and 150 miles from Kansas City.We have on display, but missed the ride at the first of the month on the beautiful  recently restored #3415 "Pacific" 4-6-2 steam engine, sat in the Eisenhower Park, Abilene, Kansas for over 40 years, having been retired by Santa Fe in the 1950s. After being donated, it tour over 4 years to restore the engine, with about 12,000 volunteer hours and the help of two grants

Cost is $44.95 for internet orders for our ride today on behind the wonderful ALCO S-1 , more if you phone in your order. it includes an Enjoyable  "Dinner in the Diner" aboard one of Smoky Valley Railroad's special Dinner Trains.

Savor varying entrees served by some of the Midwest's finest restaurants while enjoying a relaxing rail excursion through the Smoky Hill River Valley.

We are in luck as today's excursion is running!!! Today's menu is: {October 13 - 6:00 pm} - Brookville Hotel, serving fried chicken dinner then off to feel the power from the 1945 ALCO S-1, with it's 660hp diesel-electric engine that was originally designed for WWII submarines. This engine pulls the excursion train, which includes a 1902 wood KATY passenger car, converted to a dining car, two open air gondola cars, with canopy tops and a caboose, through the Smoky Hill River Valley.

So have a GREAT time, Y'all!!!

Special thoughts and prayers for those who need them!!! The prayer candle is lit for those in need!!!

Belated Happy B-Day to those who had them whilest I was away!!!

Welcome to any new diners while I was away!!!

I got top, so eat up, Daisy {the new waitress}, here is my credit card...

Mr. G-  Glad you're back. Also happy to know it was a "sick" puter and not you.

Bill- Great picture .

Have alarm set for 6:30 so why wide awake at 5:00?  Oh well, coffee ready and first laundry going into the drier. Don't have to be at safety meeting till 9 If it wasn't manditory would skip it . Real waste of time rehashing what we do day after day. Yeah, we get lazy and take shortcuts at times but it becomes second nature doing it the Right way .

prayers and blessings to all.

Good Morning All:

Paul, Happy Belated Birthday!

Ken, glad your toe is looking better

Curt, thoughts and prayers to your friend.

Galaxy, Win7 is better than Vista, they should never have released Vista….

We had a freeze warning here also, but I’m too close to the lake so it looks like we were spared.

Vincent, what would you do with 100% alcohol?  I found the 90% does everything I need but I use 70% for scenery work.  My neighbor bough a car with the tail lights blacked out, gave him a bottle of 90% and it removed all the blackout paint.

John, I bought the MR DVD set and love it, it really beats trying to keep all those past issues in order.

Ok today Katje has a vet visit and the truck gets its new hot start cord, I have no idea what is going to happen tomorrow.  I did start migrating my files from Webshots to PhotoBucket if you’re bored you can find me under LSWRR…..

Good morning. It's 70° with 100% humidity and patchy fog. The high will be 85° and it'll be partly cloudy.

Watched a somewhat interesting movie last night called 'Derailed'. An undercover operative battles terrorists after they hijack a train. It was the usual kick them once, kick the twice, kick them again then beat them up one side and down the other Van Damme treatment. I give it one star. Definitely not one of his better movies.

I have no idea what I'm going to do today. I'm still thinking about what material to use to make the gallery for the grain elevator. Styrene is out. Card stock? Cardboard? It'd be nice if I could find something that's already the general shape I need.

Morning guys

A quick stop in before I hit the train club today. Afterwards I have a date with another girl (hopefully she shows up), then I'll head home and help my father with his car. Maybe later I'll add beacons to some of my locos.

One the subject of electronics, when you use two resistors, is the Ohms just added together? I ask because the resistors I use for LEDs work great in pairs for 1.5v bulbs. I just want to find 1 resistor that works. The only issue is I don't remember what kind of resistors these are, so I'd have to measure Ohms but would I have to measure anything else?

Lee, I'd use 100% for paint stipper. I need to buy some more because I think mine may be to "dirty" to use. The Leigh Valley F3A I'm stripping has turned the 91% I have red, so it's kind of hard to tell where it's coming off.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
