Hi Fellas,

A friend of mine that I used to work with and that I used as a reference just called me and said the job that I applied for ( and want, lol ) called him yesterday. That is a pretty good sign right? I had the interview last Friday and they called him on the following Tuesday. I hope that i is a good sign.

Just checking references. But it does show they may have some interest.

Ah yes Johnboy, been there of times when my wife an I used to travel with our business thru the Queen City. It was a regular stop for an overnight stayZzz heading east or west. Did a few trade shows there as well.

Oh yah, you know I mentioned time to put the Fire Bird away for the winter set in... Fiddled around too long, now it's covered in the white stuff. Duhh
Gotta run, drop in later and try and have something like a "good one".

The most snow we've had here at one time was six inches. That lasted about a week. Everything closes at half an inch so that meant no schools. The kids went nuts! Usually the only frozen precipitation we get is ice in the form of ice storms. Ever seen a redneck trying to drive his big 4x4 truck on that stuff? That's an 'E' ticket event!

Huh? wha? who?OH..HEY the new computer is here and working!!! Hey! It looks different!

Glad to see I was missed!

Sorry guys, but our 7 y/o computer, crashed, fried its mother board and died last Thursday. We COULD have repaired it with a refurbished mother board, but declined that option-not trusting "refurbished", so had to pony up a credit card to buy a new one.

I COULD have gone to friends house but that would mean wasting 4 gals gas. just to update you guys and others. I COULD have gone to the Library, but decided I could wait for the repairs {which then turned into the new computer}. I COULD have gone to MIL and FIL or my fathers, but we both have a bad cold/flu-ish thingy going on now so don't want to infect the aging parental units!

I can read this new computer but must find the increase screen words sizing option button somewhere..never had to before, but this print is tiny. My Aging eyes, you know.

SO: HELLO ALL!!!

Where was I? oh the furnace boy got the furnace working! Then the computer crashes..if not one thing another!

Have to try out the new office word program too and see if printer works....

SO:

PRAYERS for those in need,

Welcome to the new members here!!!

Thumbs Up Yeah to Jeffrey as moderator...I always wondered why you didn't? I shall have to be more careful now that Jeffrey is a MOD...{cleans up act and sits up straight}

SO..see you all in the AM?

Afternoon everyone, Nice day here in Utah it's in the 70's blue sky and sunshine. Suppose to rain and s*@w tomorrow so I put some of the patio furniture in the shed while its still dry. I finished up a Bar Mills kit today after work The Captain Jacks boat and bait house. It turned out pretty good for my 1st wooden kit.

Todd, Thanks for the reply. Glad someone remembers me...

Ulrich, My wife and I just got back from Hamburg. We went to there to see Miniatur Wunderland. It was AWESOME! We spent four days and loved every minute of it. I am also interested in Boats,Ships and Tug boats so I was in heaven! We talked about emailing you and trying to Hire you to be our tour guide, But since you don't know us I decided not to freak you out...  It was a great trip and I just wanted to tell you I loved your great city.

Good to see so many Diners here! They may have to enlarge the Diner if this keeps up!

Flip ... Good to see you again. You ceratinly have full days.

Rob ... Great to see you here too! Don't work too hard.

Thayne ... Good to see you back here. If I recall correctly you work for UPS. Right Mr. Brown?

Jeremy ... I hope the job situation works out okay.

Galaxy .... Glad you are okay. It's hard to start the day without you. I foregt, but I think your model rairload is HO. Correct?

PA Tom .... Of course the Proto RDC's are much better. I don't recommend this Athearn RDC at all.

It's been busy here this week. We saw the outlaws (both TH and MI) in Nashville, and they will be here this weekend.

Except for running a few trains, I have not much else to report about the layout. Last week a family member gave up on model railroading and sent his trains to me. Except for a the B&O RDC, it is mostly Union Pacific. There is a nice CNW GP7 by Kato with Atlas brand, too.  So I'm wondering if I should do more interline model railroading. I already have CB&Q, GN, NP, and ATSF.

Dang Dennis, I did not know you could do that! Man I love it, I can see the darn print with ease! I wounder if that will work at work? Whistling I will find out!

 Evening Dinners!

Flo, I am picking up Dennis tap this week, and I will take a beer! Oh God, I can now read my Dinners Bill. Bang Head

Well seems I get to keep the toe for another 2 weeks! Big Smile That is when I am seen again by my Surgeon. I was told it looked real good and not to worry about having it cut off. Still some callus that had to be cut off and more than likely it is what is causing the problem of the the toe not healing right. They have set me up with a consult with Prosthetic to have my shoe refitted.Hopefully that will slow down if not stop the calluses from coming back!

Jeremy, no word on the Possible New Job Front.I have to admit I am starting to worry some. Friday it will be 7 days. Every time the phone rings, I am hoping it is them. I have never had a interview go this well and not get hired! I all so have to remember it took them around 4 months if not longer to get hold of me.

When I was hiring Managers (when I had a career) I use to hate it when I was called to see if the person got the job! I was thinking Yeah Dumb Butt, I hired you and did not bother to let you know! Bang Head

So when I call, I will tell them it is to let them know the E Mail address on my Resume is not working (which is true) and I like to visit the shop again. I have some ideas that might help them streamline there operations. Witch I do!

Galaxy, glad to see you on the site again!

 See you all later!

 Keeping my Toe Again Ken!

Evening all -

Prayers to those in need of them.

Thanks to all who responded to my question about the DVD sets. At one point about 12+ yrs ago, I had been cutting out the articles I wanted and then just scrapping the rest of the mag's and special issues. Now with the technology we have and the need for more space, I'm either going to buy the DVD's or just go back to cutting out the articles I want and scrap what's left.

Hunter - When we met in January of 2000, you were just a 6 week old pup who walked his way into this heart of mine as the only runt in the litter who would come over to me. And today, I sit here and tell you I am sorry we had to put you down. It was the best thing for you and also the right thing to do. May you now rest in peace and comfort. Love, Dad. 8 June 2010

I love you and miss you Mom. Say hi to everyone up there for me. Rest in peace and comfort. Love, John. 29 March 2017

Aw, shuckaroonies! {blushes}

Glad to be welcomed back! It is nice to know one is missed.

Now to get used to the new flat keyboard! I never liked laptop's flat keyboards, now this desktop comes with one! If I get used to it however, then maybe I will be used to it enough that when we have money top get a laptop for traveling {and when we have the money to do that too}...I will be used to it!

MOH Doesn't care for it either, but like all things that change, we will adapt!

Now what was I doing for "morning fun"??? Last month was curious and odd phrases origins..this month I don't know maybe just welcome you all to start the day!

Fortunately we are financially able to squeak by on the fundage for the computer and furnace {$1025.00} repairs! May have to be spread over two months, so as not to drain ourselves totally, but can be done..now to get back to some serious saving of money towards future OOPSIES!

Thanks for the tip on increasing size of things, I never had to do that before as making an adjustment to the monitor settings always took care of that. We will see what happens.

Well, It is getting nigh on bedtime! MOH has to be at work at 6:30 AM tomorrow, so MOH likes to get up at about 3:30 AM to do that  and get ready, etc.We are, as you know, early risers anyhow.

MOH came home wiht a bad cold and I have a touch of it. I also got my flu shot and no matter what they say, I always get the feelings of it! SO we stayed away form the elder folks as I said.

Again, Welcome to the new members!!!! I am an "old hat" around here, you will get to know me soon enough!!! {and that could be good or bad}.

Well, Later, Or earlier!

Evening guys

Went to ace today to look for some 100% alcohol. They only had denatured, but they did have spray cans of a color close to BN green. I bought 1 to test on some handrails. Seems okay so far, but they were still drying when I looked an hour ago.

Galaxy, good to see you again. Have you tried seeing if the old keyboard will work on the new computer?

I'll be back in later

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Packer and Galaxy.  The new computer probably uses a USB port for the keyboard and doesn't have the ahem öld fashioned" serial port.

Oh ya, sorry, I'm another one of those Technical/Car Buff types. My apologies to all but you'll just have to put up with me Stick out tongue

No problem for me. I'm somewhat of a computer technogeek myself. I built my computer from the ground up. It's an old beast but it does what I need it to do. When people ask me what model it is I tell them it's an Elizabeth Taylor. There's lots of marriages. It's all generic so I can get parts anywhere. And get this. I still have the computer I went into business with back in the early 80's. It's a 128k Apple IIe with the original software and all the hardware with the exception of the printer. And it still works. Some of the boards in it I made myself.

It's 73 here heading for 65 and mostly clear. Expecting some fog tonight.

Got in a little work on the main structure for the grain elevator. It won't win any awards but it's going to be way at the back of the layout anyway. I haven't done much of anything else today beside my mod duties. Time to call it a night See y'all tomorrow.

Good evening all,

'Twas a very busy day at the radio station today as we sent out 12,000 letters and pledge cards to donors for our upcoming pledge drive.  But it's fun working with the volunteers and staff.

Tomorrow my wife and I head north to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to spend the weekend with our son.  I'm hoping to see a little BNSF, Iowa Interstate or Crandic while we're there but that's always a hit or miss proposition.  On the other hand, there WILL be pizza to be had at Zoe's in Marion.

Have a splendid weekend.

Good Morning!

The night wasn´t too bad, although I had to get up a couple of times. The lost tooth didn´t act up, so in between to big coughs I actually got some sleep.

On the 29th, I´ll have my next appointment with that nice dentist lady and her equally nice assistant. I think I could develop a certain liking to them, just like Todd with Suki Smile, Wink & Grin. At least they will make go to see a dentist more often ... Whistling

Janie, just coffee, please - I am still reluctant to start to chew on anything.

thortenney

Ulrich, My wife and I just got back from Hamburg. We went to there to see Miniatur Wunderland. It was AWESOME! We spent four days and loved every minute of it.   Thayne

Thayne - it would have been a great pleasure for me to meet you and your wife and show you around - well, maybe next time Smile, Wink & Grin

Miniatur Wunderland is a blast - for both a model railroader and "plain folks". There have been many attempts to copy it, but without success. They must be doing something right. A visit to it has joined the ranks of the must-do´s for any Hamburg visitor. I have seen many bad comments on it here from people who have never seen it -I bet they´d change their minds after seeing it.

I still have an invitation to Miniatur Wunderland, but I will most likely trade that for a visit to the Bremen Euromodell Fair in November, something like our Timonium.

Have a splendid day!

Hello Guys & Sue,  Well it's almost time for me to start my Friday.Garry, Hey good memory! Yes I am still a happy UPS driver, Into my 28th year and I love what I do, It's been a great company to work for and I am blessed. I have a different run now that I really enjoy. I run from Provo Utah to Dove Creek Colorado (near Durango) 5 days a week. I get to see some pretty country mostly in the dark...

Ulrich, Dang we should have tried to contact you. We stayed in a nice hotel I forget the name it was in the area near the big antenna space needle looking thingie. We  must Have been on the main road to the port so I got to see all of the Big trucks rolling back and forth. The European trucks are alot different than the ones I drive. Even the UPS trucks looked really nice. They seem to take better care of their stuff than we do here. There was a old church right across the street that had a big red ribbon on the steeple that said 100 years If You know that area? We really enjoyed walking around the area in the evenings. I fell in love with a few of your women wow! (don't tell my wife..)

I better get to w*$k see you all later!

Hey ALFADAWG01, yer heading for my former stomping grounds (Cedar cRapids native) UP is what you'll find for sure. Beverly Yard (just south of Westdale Mall) still has some decent places to park and watch. The CRANDIC always has something moving, the question is where: Penford (8th Ave. at the river) or out at ADM (next to Beverly). Tough spots to watch, but it can be done. Look for a guy named Buddy Burton on the web, he's got a lot of recent shots of the area. Iowa Interstate runs out of Iowa City, to near Amana then up to the CRANDIC. They don't go much past ADM. The Canadian National runs daily to Cedar cRapids out of Manchester via Central City. I'm not sure what they're schedule is, same with the Iowa Northern running on ex-RI south out of Manly via Vinton to the ex-RI, ex-CNW North Yard just north of the downtown area.

Watch out on Saturday, we've got a chance for severe storms. I think the worst is going to slide to the south of us (I'm straight east of Cedar cRapids in Clarence), but even so, I'm thinking we're in for some wind and hail at the very least.

Goooooood mornin', glass of 7-Up please, and thank-you.

JEFF: THAT elevator is looking good! I need to get back to w***ing on mine. Got tired of sanding filler putty.

GALAXY: Glad yer back. I feel your pain on the flat keyboards. This durned Apple Box has a tiny little keyboard. I'm getting used to it, but dang if it isn't a pain in the caboose to get used to!

No "facetime" with THAT Editor today! Yay! THAT automatically makes my Friday better.

Have a good, SAFE day everybody...
