Wikipedia lists the Kansas railroads as follows:

I have spiffed up the RC, took out the trash, and shined the floor! {you'll all be glad to know I did not use spit to do so!}
The heating system was serviced..just in case you know...it gets chilly here.
Wow a new diner.........And I have the day off tomorrow......guess after I craw out of bed sometime during the day I`ll work on the layout.

Young Sakel. if you will review when the September Diner was moved -the last day of AUGUST, you will NOTE: it was moved as follows as posted on the first post in the september thread:
"Posted by Sir Madog on Fri, Aug 31 2012 8:09 PM" {Eastern Dayligt Time}
Pay attention and you will do fine. It usually gets moved the last day, sometimes late, sometimes earlier.
Just a FYI

Just a joke... But when I moved the Diner a few months ago I did it at 12:17.. no cheating for me!
(hmm, not even 10 posts in and already.. ah...whats the word...)
Ah, a new place! Kansas eh? I've been here before. Never believed those tales about it being table top flat until then when I saw for myself.
Been feeling pretty rough today. In fact I've felt like crap since I got up this morning. Took a nap around noon and woke up feeling even worse. I did manage to get part of a makeshift structure for the elevator put together. It's just a few printed wall plates stuck to a box but it at least gives me something to work with.

Great. Kansas. I can here Garry now come 1st of November..."Looks like we're not in Kansas anymore."
I haven’t a clue what Ray said so I’m gonna go with Jeff and say….ya . That’s what I meant. All I know is they say “Daylight” and I try to get the highest Kelvin number on the shelf regardless of what it calls them. Makes a HUUUUUGE difference in the trainroom and the garage. Wait, (reaches in pocket and pulls out a 4 pack of CFL’s) Ya, I thought I had some. The box says, Daylight, 13 watt, 6500K (thought they were like 7000K but I guess not. Or at least these aren’t) 800 Lumens. Oh and none better for outside lights. If you don’t mind the bugs.
JPowell- HEY good to see you back. Reason I don’t is almost what G said. I saved Car Craft magazines since 1979 til I finally quit the subscription last year. Reason….literally a ton of magazines that I do not reference as I thought I would. Things change and other than something cool to read and have, I find (for me only mind you) no actual use for a technique from 1960 that has been bettered 40 times since. Now, that being said, others opinions may/will differ. The other reason I would, would be for the same reason I have all the episodes of NCIS on DVD…..Ziva. NO! I mean entertainment. I’m not going to buy them, but that would be the only reason I would.
Welp, time for the season premiere of Family Guy and American Dad. See yuns tomorrow!

Uh, whereabouts in Kansas are we? Just curious I know a little of the northeast corner. Marysville is pretty busy with the UP and their "cut-off" from Gibbon, NE to Menoken, KS (just west of Topeka). There's some good train watching spots along US 24 from Topeka to Manhattan, and I think there's an old UP caboose still sitting in "Railroad Park" in Wamego (famous for it's Dutch windmill and the Wizard of Oz museum).
In other words, thanks GALAXY!
Here's a little sample of Uncle Pete's ops in Marysville and along the old Kansas Pacific line:
JP: Good to see you in here again! To answer your question about the DVD, several years ago I took the pile of RMC and MR magazines I had and cut-out the articles I liked, and the ones THAT looked like they could come in handy some day. Those all went into binders by subject: locomotives, freight cars, structures, track plans, etc. Now, I only pick up a magazine if there's something in it I really want or "need" to see. So (sorry Kalmbach) last month's issue of MR was left on the rack at Walmart, as was this month's. Next month, we'll see. IF it has something, I'll grab it. The article or articles of interest will be pulled, the rest sent to the landfill in Illinois.
THAT said, having 75 years of stuff I mostly don't want/need just doesn't make sense for me. Likewise with the special issues. I grab the ones I want/"need," and again dissect out what I want and pitch the rest. Plus, I've already got the "hard copy" in front of me when I'm trying to do something rather than sucking up expensive ink to print something out. As it is, I've got hundreds of pages from TrainLife.com's web archives of magazines THAT I have to print-out at some point.
Long answer to a short question, I guess. Bottomline: 75 years of magazines in one place is neat...but doesn't do me much good. Your results may vary.
Since we're in Kansas, would it be too much to ask for a bacon cheeseburger made of genuine Kansas pasture-raised Angus beef? I'll chase it down with a bucket of Coca Cola at the RC...my how it shines! THAT GALAXY fellow sure does a nice job.

"Ah, a new place! Kansas eh? I've been here before. Never believed those tales about it being table top flat until then when I saw for myself."
Aw JEFF! You must've been out in the western part. Up in "my" part of Kansas, there's the Flint Hills. Here's a shot of Myers' Valley with the "town" of Flush nestled in it. The shot was taken from high on a hill overlooking the village.
THAT elevator is looking good! In a day or two, a box should be arriving to help-out with it.
Chris (in Iowa, but with great fondness for Kansas)
***EDIT*** KEN says they don't sell beer in Kansas! Since when??? Kansas wheat farmers kept Grain Belt in business for decades. Grandpa Umscheid always put salt in his Budweiser. The "Sungold Saloon" in downtown Flush always had Coors readily available. My favorite Uncle keeps Milwaukee's Best in business. I make it a point to stop at the convenience store in Westmoreland, KS to pick up a case of REAL beer when I go to visit said Uncle. A "dry state?" Hardly!!
cudaken Hum, Galaxy beat Ulrich on moving the dinner. But why Kansas Galaxy? Like there is anything there? Plus they don't sale beer, it is a dry state!
I can honestly say I have never been to Kansas.

Good Evening, Flo, how about a Rio Grande mug of coffee and a hot fudge sundae, please? Thanks!
Johnboy, I enjoyed your history of the 'flying railroad' for lack of a better term. You have more patience than I do, waiting several weeks/months to pick up your MRR orders. (Whew!)
Dennis, I like your weathering on that RS-1. What all did you do for that?
Karl, I think with whiskey, it can numb a lot more than one's tongue... And congrats on selling THAT trailer (and a good start on some layout costs)!
Hmm...Seamonster is warning us about Ambesol numbing our tongues, Karl is peddling whiskey and/or beer for our troubles, and Chris may (or may not) have a three martini lunch - or the equivalent amount of beers... (he refuses to answer, and exercises his right against self-incrimination) Am I detecting a pattern here? Must've been a tough week for a bunch of us Diners! Should I have a glass of wine with my hot fudge sundae? Nah that wouldn't go well together (Ray, what wine would go with a hot fudge sundae?)... Pretty soon, the servers may be 'carding' DIners at the doors, and the poor younger Diners may not be permitted in... (I hope not, though)
Chris, I'm with you about the flexibility (and other benefits) of w**king from home. Now, if I were only in a job where that was feasible.
Todd, when it comes to your home projects, do you ever feel like some days, you just can't win (let alone keep up)? I suppose moving (and not leaving a forwarding address...) is out of the question, eh? Ah, well, just wondering...
Curt, I would love to see more about how you're doing the (LED) lighting for those buildings (power source, wiring/resistors, etc.) (Use short sentences and s-i-m-p-l-e words, I'm not too great on electrics/electronics wiring and all that...)
Sam, I think Todd (or the original post he was havin' fun with...) was helping everybody get thoroughly confused, right? Besides, when Todd gets going, it's hard to track his mind, right? But I see that Ray already covered what I (being a former professional photographer) was about to fill you in about. That, or go look up "Color temperature" on Wikipedia (but also look up "Kelvin" (not the lord after which the measure is named, but the measure itself...).
And this afternoon was a very dull shade of grey outside (those curious people might want to check Barry's dictionary on that...). No rain, but sure wasn't any 6500 K color temp. outside... Wonder if our weatherguessers are saying if we'll be having some "raindrops a'falling on my head" tomorrow?
Now that I have THAT tune stuck in a couple of minds, I'll show you what little progress I made on the filling station today. I 'slopped' the gesso onto the wood walls, bases, overhang structure, etc.:
The 'horizontal' sign is just sitting across the rest of the building because I didn't want one side of it sticking to the newspaper, by the way. And yeah, I've decided that I *will* need some off-white washes, as that white of gesso is way too intense(!). As you (hopefully) can see, I sanded and rounded off the corners of the bases.
Here's a better angle photo of the station:
There are a few spots where I will likely need to use some Squadron Putty to even things out on the surface. I'm still debating how to divide the interior space (between 'showroom', bathroom/bathrooms, and/or storage room (last two to the back part of the building). It's still a w**k in progress...
Vincent, I can make a guess about that gal who gave you her number the other night - she and her BF had had an argument, and weren't speaking to each other at the time. Then, the next day, they got back together. Not fun, but happens all the time, trust me. I take it that the boat is moved, yes?
JP - 1) Not likely to buy the extra-super-duper DVD set (a) because of price, and (b) I already have a fair number of years (esp. 70's, 80's and on, plus a fair number of 60's, but more gaps as you go further back. 2) Not looking to get the special issues - 3 reasons: a) I have about all the MRP issues, plus all the special ("How to...") issues that are of interest to me, b) I found that the GMR issues didn't usually have enough useful info to justify buying more than the 1 or 2 I did get, c) I doubt that I need all 75 years, as Galaxy said. I have found useful information in many of the MR issues that I have, including some idea-starters that I need to adjust for my needs (that is, I would have to do a bit of imagineering to get beyond what Galaxy said was the limitations). (I'll blame my willingness to do that effort on too many classes along the way...) I saw some survey about if I would be interested in buying the special issues DVD set, and said no, and I counter-suggested that MR consider breaking their monster DVD set down into decades, or something smaller and more manageable (or economically justifiable...). Galaxy's idea of scanning topics and/or starting one yourself could be useful.
Kansas, eh? As they say, "Miles and miles... of miles and miles..." My last trip through Kansas, a bit before my divorce (so that was a while back), we were coming from near Colorado Springs and got a couple hundred or so miles into Kansas and stopped for the night. And then maybe a few hours later that evening, a tornado came by (a bit too close by, but it missed our car, at least!). So I'll go through Kansas if it's daylight and there aren't any nasty storms around. (Okay, soapbox, you can go back now...)
Hey, Karl - not funny! Well, at least you were joking.
Speaking of Batman, Chris - Santa Fe and UP on the same train? Nice shot (and how much do you have to pay Uncle Pete for that?)
Jeff, the elevator's coming along (very) well. (Not to be confused with that thing where Christ used to have frogs...)
Glad we went to Kansas - at least I could see the Diner from a ways off!
About time for me to head for home (and it's miles and miles... to get there from here...). will continue for all those in need (which means pretty much all of us...).
[Edit:] ...and it looks like I have the TOP, so set out the late night/early breakfast buffet for 'em, Flo. And probably should put out a lunch buffet for Ulrich and/or our Diners from 'Down Under', too. I'll be back tomorrow to settle up the bill.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape G.
Good evening. Still wet here as it's rained off and on throughout the day. It's currently 59° here and looking at a high of 78° tomorrow. Possible thunderstorms in spots tonight. No mention of rain for tomorrow.Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Evenin' folks!
Janie.....? Where are we....??? Flat as can be out there and I think I saw a twister with someone screaming, "There's no place like home... There's no place like home!" Oh well, can I get a cup of decaf please. Kansas, eh? What's that Galaxy? Smack dab in the middle of the country? Smack dab in the middle of nowhere I'd say!
Did some painting of woodlands in the hills (real hills, not the tiny rolls in the topography outside) where the new upper staging is. Decided trees will look better than blue sky all the way down to the tracks. I also made a light panel for under the upper staging to light the lower staging area as needed. I bought a bunch of very bright white LEDs on a strip that can be stuck onto a flat surface. It should be more than enough to light up the lower staging.
Still damp and drizzly outside the door here in the Finger Lakes. Tomorrow will be a bit warmer and partly...
Hope all of you have a great night. Prayers for all in need!

Hey, according to WIBW TV13 out of Topeka, we're in for a great week of weather here in Kansas...actually, it's a better forecast than what I'm looking at in Iowa, especially for Week 7 of High School footballlllllllllllllllll.
Have a good night everybody, good morning to those across the pond.

Grumble, mumble, grouch....
Someone must have stayed up late or have set the alarm clock, just to move the Diner. Kansas, eh? What the heck is in Kansas, other than wheat fields, buffalo herds and prairie grass?
Good Morning Gang!
Thanks, Galaxy, for doing the honors of moving the Diner to the October 2012 place. Mind, you, but a place little more civilized would be nice - next time ...
Flo, just coffee for me, please. Petra surprised me with a mile long HD list this morning, so I got to be going!
Have a nice day!

Good Morning!!!
Coffee, just coffee please. And just leave the pot thanks.
Weather? Don’t care. It's out there though.....somewhere.
Last time I went through Kansas, and it took like a week to get through it, or so it seemed, the wind was blowing so hard I would drive ten mile and get blown back 11. After a while I realized I was actually going backwards…….. So I turned around and backed through the state.
Jim- “Some days” I feel like I just can’t win? Ha.
Honestly I do not know what those terms Kelvin and Lumens actually mean, Well, I didn’t. I do now, but that knowledge will stay with me only for a brief time due to the fact I probably won’t use the info for another 50 years so I’ll forget by oh, probably say Thursday about 2:30pm. Like wedding vows, I just knew I had to say them or I wouldn’t get to leave. Understanding was irrelevant.....at the time. Actually I originally bought the daylights for Toddland (of which I’m king) based on someone in here’s recommendation a while back and said “Wow! I like ‘em these!!” And then read the box and now I just get the ones that read the same. Or close anyway. “Stumble through life” is my motto. That and “eat it now, throw it up later”. Works pretty good for me. Ohhh sometimes it has it’s downfalls, but for the most part….., it works.
I also don’t buy the special issues anymore due to the fact they (or at least the couple I’ve got) are just reprints of articles from the year on the subject contained in the stack of MR mags I have that I said I wasn’t gonna keep. Haven’t gotten around to removing pertinent articles to put in the binders I have for them. Another project for another day.
How’s the shower coming? Funny you should ask. Door’s too small for new size, but I knew that from the git go and a 2inch wall, so to speak, is all that is needed. A 2X4 and the backer board adds up perfect for this application. So, what’s the problem? I’ll tell you. To go through that 2 inches and the additional 1/2inch backer to get a good grab on the stud, I want 3-1/2 inch screws right? Just humor me. I go down and in the box of said screws there are 4. I need more. Trip to Menard’s, the place I was at just an hour previous to check and see if the tile was in. WHICH, by the way was not. Odd. So I ask the dude. He looks it up and says, and I quote…”Hm. That’s weird. They haven’t reordered any and it’s been over two weeks since we ran out. I wonder why. I’ll send an e-mail off to find out.” Email? He assured me the stuff was still available and they should get more in, but at my asking he said yes I could order the 5 boxes I need if I want. See, I picked up on the word "should". Listen carefully to what people say it's the difference between happiness and explaining to the wife how it wasn't all my fault. I think I’ll do that today (order the tile, not pay attention. I need a break now and then. Besides, gives the wife and I something to talk about.) as the stuff went on sale until the 14th of October. Besides, I have to get more screws anyway. Ah what’s a day without a trip to Menard’s.
Ya’ll have a good day!!!!
(walks out door and trips, falls flat on face) What are these phonebooks doing here?
EDIT: I mis-spoke. I'll only need to go through 2 inches, not 2-1/2, but the jist is the same.
