Good Afternoon Gang!

One of those dab and gray days. Other than one of our neighbors dogs barking all day long, there is no sign and sound outside.

I went to Lothar´s place to do some w*rk on that passing station module. It now sports a platform, which I built using 1mm styrene sheet stock. Still needs painting and detailing , so no pictures yet. It´s been my first MRRing activity for over 3 months now, and I tell you it feels good to be back in "business". Lothar and I will go going into Hamburg tomorrow to pick up some supplies. I need a sheet of 7mm Styrofoam, some paint and a bottle of PVA. Not much of a spending, but even a little can be too much at a time.

Garry - friendly looking friend you´ve got there.

We have pretty much the same standards as US when it comes to emission control standards Vincent. I  bought a 97 Fire Bird Trans Am Convertible this spring with the LZ Vette engine. It takes Premium fuel with no Ethanol to keep the octane up.  It's pricey to run neat $1.30/L but it sure is a mean machine!

I bought it with 74K km and it was absolutely mint as in next to new! A great find for me. Time to put it away now  because it can snow any day up here. Thats why the low KM"s.

No progress on the layout but soon!! Wink

 Morning All,

Currently 52 with an expected high of 84 under sunny skies.

Wednesday is my normal day off so I will be heading to the hospital in a bit. There is no clock in my wifes room so she requested one from home. I will bring it to her and stay a little while just to see if she is still doing well. Yesterday she told me to do some fun stuff.

The four #5 LH Walthers turnouts and WS track bed showed up yesterday, along with four Micro Mark Switch Tender turnout motors, so fun stuff today will be getting some more trackwork done on the yard.

 Prayers to all in need

Ken - I worked in an auto body shop in my youth 18 to 20 year old. I still love the smell of Bondo and paint. It is the only thing I miss about the business now. Do not think I would like crawling around under bent up sheet metal, lying on concrete floors at my age.

Good luck.

Good Afternoon,

A coffee and a toasted cinammon bun please Chloe, oh and a cheeseburger for my little pal, Robbie. What's that Robbie? You want me to order a cheeseburger for Rerun. Well consider it done.

I realized it has been at least a month since I was last here but I do check in most days to see what is going on.

No word from Rob yet and that is unusual for him. Garry, you were in touch with him last year at about this time and perhaps you could do so again. I lost his e-mail address when my computer crashed a couple of years ago.

I'm not usually in here during a weekday afternoon but I have been home for the past 3 days with a very bad cold. I might make it back into the office Friday but no need to push it. This afternoon was the first time in a week that I ran a train so I guess I'm improving. I wound up passenger operations as that was September on the Mortimer sub so I think October will be way freight month. Time to get the Consolidation, or hog as they were nicknamed on CN, out of the engine house.  Might do a little on the N scale tomorrow, either start painting the freight shed kit or carve up some foam.

Ken, good luck on the job interview. You should tell them exactly what you said here about loving the smell of Bondo in the morning. Sounds like something someone who loves their work would say. Hope that toe of yours gets better. Take care.

Time for  a coffee which should start me coughing again but it seems to help clear out my lungs if you know what I mean.

CN Charlie

Well today was no better than yesterday! I no sooner made my morning post than my father calls with things that have to be done before his visitors get here. So I helped him out with that then it was off to town for lunch and a trip Wal-Mart. Lunch was at a Mexican place we frequent. Tell you what, you go there you better bring your appetite! Prices are good and the portions are BIG. then it was on to Wal-Mart. This I didn't mind too much as he was saving me a drive to town for grocery shopping. I did my shopping right then plus picked up a new flash drive to replace the one that died.

I got back home and discovered I had a couple of packages waiting for me. One contains a little gun store. Looks like maybe an old Woodland Scenics metal building. The box also has a load of grain elevator parts and pieces! Just the thing I need. The other box contains two locos. An Athearn RS-16 with a bum motor and what looks like a Mantua SP F7A dummy unit. Wonder how long it'll take me to slap a powered chassis into it.

Afternoon, Zoe - got a bit wet from a surprise shower on the way here. Don't think they were predicting THAT... I'll have a bison steak, medium done please, with a side salad and some asparagus and a glass of one of your fine Finger Lakes wines. Thank you!

Wasn't feeling good yesterday afternoon, and didn't go on-call until 4:30 p.m. so I set the timer and took a nap for couple of hours. It did help some, feeling better today. This morning I went by the office (had realized that I needed to turn in mileage today (not that much), and I also Oops realized I hadn't turned in our monthly log of who I've seen, where, and the disposition (no, not if they were in a foul mood or not - what I wound up doing/setting up follow-up services, etc.). Got that done, but it was about lunchtime by then.

Galaxy, glad to hear your furnace is up and running again! And hope you get the warranty details ASAP from the manufacturer!

Sir Madog

... actually, I have never been to Kansas - too far east for my taste. But I saw a recent movie on Kansas, with big buffalo herds grazing peacefully on the prairie grass, until a band of soldiers started to shoot the. They were wearing blue uniforms. Could it be that the movie wasn´t so recent?

Ulrich, that might be a possibility on the movie you were watching...Whistling Though, there are some bison herds that some ranchers have in the USA (I just looked, and there's even a Bison Ranchers Association for/in Kansas), but those are not likely open range all the way across broad sections of the state...

Did Dennis (Stourbridge) have some people on the forum giving him trouble, or was he just overloaded (like you)?

Jeff, have fun at the attorneys (when you go watch the sisters sign - and I guess you'll sign too). Whatcha gonna do with that hotel (that is the DPM one, right)? Either needs some fixin' up, or some graffiti on it, if it's way past its prime in your RR's history. I'd looked at that one (or the DPM one that looks like it), but decided my RR's towns were too small for a 4-story one, so I'll be using the Seymour Block building instead, for the motel. But that project is down the road a piece. (I bought the building assembled, but I'll be adding some kind of interior, signs, etc. to it). Ya got a couple of nice-looking locos there!

Ray, your staging area looks good - like your shrubs down between the tracks (very nicely done)! Bow

JR - Maybe your truck would get good mileage in Kansas... until the crosswinds blow it over (sometimes)! Ya got to keep in mind, there's not very much in the way of windbreaks there, either... Smile, Wink & Grin

Ken, Best wishes for things to go well (both the surgery and your recuperation time) tomorrow and after. If your trainings are like some of mine, you likely won't miss very much with having to leave it early. Wink One thing to watch for is, don't let your w**k push you too hard on coming back too soon. Not worth it to undo all the surgeon will do to help your foot, nosiree! Hope your job interview on Friday goes well for you. Thumbs Up

Todd, do you think 'Jungle Pam' was doing a bit of (ahem..cough, cough...) 'psychological warfare' to distract the opposing racers so that 'Jungle Jim' got a lead on them from the start? Nobody would do that, would they?...Whistling Oh, I can't say that I am greatly surprised that Brenda changed her mind on something in that tile project. Can you?

CN Charlie, good to see you in again. I'd love to see some photos of your new N scale layout progress... (hint, hint...). Yeah

About time for me to finish up dinner and head out. Got men's small group tonight, and I may then catch the debate and see who falls the flattest on his face....

AngelAngel for those needing comfort, healing (or having surgery), a good night's rest, and/or other needs.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

Ken, lots of positive waves headed your way from here for the interview. Maybe you should keep a picture of Jungle Pam with you in your pocket, just for luck!

Well I tore down the RS16 and it appears the motor isn't bad after all, just very dirty. I cleaned the brushes and commutator with 91% alcohol. The amount of crud that poured out was significant. Three fingers on my left hand turned black! I rubbed the commutator with an alcohol soaked paper towel until all I could see was clean towel. It runs like a champ now and I consider it worthy of converting to DCC.

On the Mantua F7A I have an F7B body in the closet somewhere. With it and the F7A body I can change a couple of FT's to F7's. The FT bodies are on Athearn clone F7 frames with Frankenstein power and drives.

Thanks for the congrats on securing the mod position. I'll do the best I can with it. I have to tell you, I don't play favorites and I don't pull punches. If a duck's a duck I'll call it a duck and if the duck is carrying a gun it will be dealt with accordingly. Plain and simple. This is no change for me. If I have a question on something I'll hand it up to my primary contact. I've always moderated in this manner.

Evening guys

Another strange day. Niether of my dates showed up, one sent me a text saying she was sick. The other one I never heard from.

Carwise, It took a long time to get these other headers in place. It eventually turned into a 2 person job. I just know that I won't be buying these manufactuer of headers anymore. They require a crowbar to line up right.

Trainwise I got the F-unit tank fixed up.

This one was just thrown together for a concept, but I think it came out alright.  I'm working on a rough sketch of another idea I have. It uses an L-shape piece, some quarter round, and some strip to build up the hieght. It'd be less susceptable to warping, and would require almost no filler...

Jeff, I don't think Athearn ever made an AS16. I think you have a stewart. Congrats on getting the mod position BTW.

Ken, good luck with the interview

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

That might well be. If it's a Stewart it has a total Athearn drive. The ones I see online have a different drive and the frame looks different.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me.  I'll go have a seat in the back with the others taking a nap....  Is that Duke or Barry snoring?

Jeffrey, thank you for volunteering to be a moderator!  Thankless job, but we all know you will be a good one!

Barry, I will be keeping you in my prayers that you are cancer free!  Good luck with the appointment.

Ken, I hope all goes well for too!  Good luck with the job interview on Friday.

I spent most of today getting all the stuff form the NMRA Meet last Saturday checked out (printed more entry forms and ballots for contests) and ready to be put away.  Went shopping.  Drove out to the Mennonite Farm Stand and got veggies then over to tops for the rest of the shopping.  This evening I wrote my column for the Division Newsletter and answered a ton of emails...  Did spend a bit of time with the trains, but not nearly as much as I would have liked.  Put in an LED lighting assembly I made a couple days ago.  Bright White LEDs from Micro Mark on a strip.  They are very bright and will be used in the lower staging to show the trains there on occasion.  Also ran the Lake Shores Limited passenger train back and forth on the upper staging to work out a few bugs.  Just a couple pieces of ballast in the wrong places and cleaned the track.  Managed to get a little of the white over spray drifting where it shouldn't have.  Everything now runs great there.  If I get a chance tomorrow, the other Passenger Train that will be on the other track will be run onto it's holding track.

Prayers for all in need!

Goooooooooood Evening, I understand there's a cheeseburger with Rerun's name on it! Thanks CNCHARLIE! For me, I'll take a mega-bacon cheeseburger with fries and some of THAT wonderful boot coffee. Thankya.

Well (way down, got another postcard from the toads), I elected to NOT watch or listen to the debate tonight. My mind was made up a long time ago as to who gets my vote. Actually, I decided whoever or whatever the party I algin with puts up this year gets my vote. So, instead, I w**ked a little on an Intermountain brand covered hopper, looked for some elevator plans THAT should've gone South; and replaced a leaky flapper in my crapper.

Yup. I chose toilet repair over listening to the politicians tonight.

JEFF: Congrats and good luck on the moderator position. Is VINNIE teaching you how to bend crowbars around necks?

VINCENT: Sorry to hear about the gals... some women will do THAT. Take it as a sign neither one is anything you want to get involved with. Nice w**k on the tank, looks much better.

I'll grab a seat at the RC for a bit whilst I cogitate upon an Annual Progress Report/Annual Yearly Progress report from the school district I cover. I've been putting off writing about this for two weeks, and THAT Editor (yup, still w**king for her) will be wanting something sooner than later.

Evening All,

Rewired 4 DPDT switches for the Switch Master turnout motors. I saved these from when I ran DC, but they need a little tweeking to work the way I want them to for the Switch Masters. When the main route is aligned the green LED lights up, when the diverging route is aligned the red LED lights up.

When I worked in manufacturing I made about 50 of these little brackets.

 Evening Folks!

Flo, just wheel the keg over and get me a straw!

Work Front, man what a DAY! From 3:00 PM and after I knew how General Custer Felt at the Bighorn. I was the only sales / management person on duty and here comes Sitting Bull and his tribe. Our Radio Ad hit to day about the Buy 2 get 2 Free and the phone went nut's. Plus it seems like a Hardware store blew up and every car with in 20 miles had a nail in a tire. From 3:00 PM till 8:00 PM I had between 2 and 5 people waiting for me to help them! Plus the phones kept ring off the hook! Finally I started telling the people calling to call back Thursday that I had people waiting for me and said sorry and goodby. I really had no choices!

Techs where waiting for me as well, too call and get parts prices and then sell the needed repairs. Had to leave people waiting for me to help them so I could call the people that cars where ready, need parts or tires could not be fixed! I was buzzer than a one armed wallpaper hanger.

Man I am tired, but funny thing it is good tired.

Job Interview I just hope this job is what I hope for and I am quailed for it. Here I thought this job was going to be my saving graces and has turned out to be a pile of Dun. (I am on week 50 this week at being at the job) I am worried about 2 things on this interview!

1 It is for a Truck center. I am guessing it is a shop for Semi Tractor Trailer repair. I don't know stuff about Semi's. I was in one once's if that counts! Whistling  Plus I know little about fiberglass repair. Not that it is hard, but I only used it a few times.

2 They wanted to know if I ever wrote a Estimate? I can honestly say I have written between 60,000 to 80.000 estimates if not more!  Please note I said Wrote! I used crash books and pen and paper. I have never used a computer to give a estimate in my life.

But what the heck, worth taking a shoot at it!

Toe Front. Little worried, just does not look right. (well it has not looked just right for sometime)

Jeffery a Mod? Laugh Boy the folks that sent him Nasty Gram's are in for it now! Laugh

Se you all later and thank you for the well wishes on all fronts.

 Beat up aging Cuda Ken

Good Morning Gang!

Well, what a surprise Smile, Wink & Grin to see we have a new set of moderators! Welcome to the crowd, Jeff and Dan! I feel much relieved now, not having to carry the load all alone! It was getting a little to much for me, as I am still not fully recovered.

Chloe, whatever those two gentlemen will be having today, put it on my tab. I´ll go for a light breakfast this morning, just coffee and a donut, please.

I´ll be running into town to pick up a few supplies to fish those passing siding modules. I need to persuade my Lord Chancellor of the Exchequer (Petra) to hand over some cash to me first. Not an easy undertaking. Unlike federal governments, I just cannot extend my credit facilities Laugh

Need to get ready for the trip - have a good day!

"Mornin'.  I'll have the Miner's Special."

That's 4 plate-sized pancakes, 4 eggs (make mine scrambled), 4 strips of bacon or 4 pieces of sausage (sausage, please), 4 slices of toast, choice of hashbrowns or grits (bowl o' grits for me), a quart of syrup (cane syrup!, not the High Fructose Corn Syrup), and drink (sweet tea).

**Empties out pockets of all change, at least 12 dollars worth**

**Looks around**

"What?  I was hungry."

Nothing special planned today.  Just the usual.  Good to see all o' ya's here in the diner.

Coffee and……oh what sounds good? Hm. Hooowww aboouuuut aaaaa hmmmmm. Ok, a pulled brisket sandwich. Put some Cattleman’s BBQ sauce on that please. What? Um yes, pretty liberal with it. Aaaaaand maybe some good potato salad. The white kind, not the yellow today please. And oh I don’t know, how about some creamy cole slaw. Thank you.

Ray- Ya and I used to hate running late, but now I tell them, “for what you’re paying me to be here…, I’m early.”Mischief

Hey, Jeffrey! I see you said you’d be a referee here. Good luck. I guess you know what you’re getting into as this ain’t your first rodeo. How many forums do you moderate now?

I watched the debates but didn’t listen. The volume was down at the restaurant. Stopped in after the parade. Some said they can’t hear what they were saying, I said their lips are moving so you can’t believe what they're saying. It’s like two used car salesmen trying to sell you their “better deal”. Say what they think you wanna hear. Usually it’s just the two candidates saying pretty much what they are going to do and what laws they are going to pass for some hair brained scheme to make the country strong that’ll be better than the others hair brained scheme that’ll destroy the country. Both sound good, unless you really think about it. All the while I’m thinking, as I recall from my school days, they can’t do anything. Congress does. Always said I’ll vote for the first candidate who says “you know, I’m not gonna say what I will get done. I’ll tell you how I feel about things and I’ll suggest things. Maybe veto a few as I go. You people need to elect the right Senators and Representatives to get this stuff done. I’m pretty much just a scape goat with an awesome airplane and a reeeeeaally cool car.”  Unless they plan on becoming a dictator or king, it’s kinda the way we do business in this country. I did get the end results though. The Republicans say Romney destroyed Pres Obama and sent him licking his wounds, and the Democrats say the President showed everyone what an idiot Romney is. Me? Well, let’s just say I’ll keep my own personal opinions to myself.

If it had been me taking that tile strip off without measuring to see if it’d match with the stuff to be put in, it would have been a half tile wrong and wouldn’t work. But needless to say she did and it did. So. Got that installed yesterday and today I will grout it and then last minute sub-project #43,246 will be complete.Yes

Didn’t get much done yesterday othern at whatever you call it tile trim stuff install, bein’s how the guy called at 9 am to see if I could put the generator on his old truck then instead of that afternoon. Said sure, get that outta the way and free up the rest of the day to get lots and lots of stuff done. Weeeell, his BIL/my backdoor neighbor showed up and then that conversation took til after noon, then my daily trip to Menard’s of course for a 2” 3/16 trowel I needed and another sheet of that decorative stone and glass thing that she wanted for the trim. Oh, and of course lunch. Got the one who " not speak English"  just smiles and calls me sir, so that went pretty quick. Actually it’s pretty much down to only one who’ll talk and that’s the one they call Suki. The other girl will ask how you are, or what you been do...doing and then nod alot. Pretty sure she's just shaking the words she doesn't know out and trying to figure out what you said using the few she does. Suki's a pretty girl, but your stereotypical blonde….with black hair and a vague understanding of the English language and’s not afraid to use it. Brenda doesn’t like her after the spiteful soda destruction incident. I think she's holding a grudge. (chuckle)

So aaaanyway, after all that, I just had time for the little install before the parade at 5 which turned out to be really 6, and didn’t get going until 6:15. BUT they did have one of them there mini pigs being pulled around in a cart, so it was worth the wait. Today I guess I’ll do laundry and grout that section and see what happens before w**k at 5.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Just two. This one and my own. Mine is small and has been around since 2006 and is very slow these days. It serves more or less as a home page for me.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a couple sour cream glazed donuts to dunk in my dark roast coffee this morning.  Then I'll need a couple more refills of the dark roast coffee to get all the crumbs washed out of the mug...  A couple more, I might even be awake!

Dark, gloomy, but not too cold outside the door here in the Finger Lakes this morning.  The thermometer says 66°F at the moment and should get up to 71° or so later when it stars precipitating again.  I need to mow the lawn soon or I will have to bale it.  Fall colors would be nice and bright if the sun would start to shine.  Needless to say the panels on the roof have been way down in production the last few days...

Got get moving as I have a long list of must do items for today.

Later!
