Good Morning all,

Well Toto, I guess were not in Indiana anymore…..
I spent most of the weekend catching up on fair weather projects outside. Dorothy has to have her foot operated on again this Friday so I broke down and bought a Futon for the living room. Puppy “helped” me assemble it Sunday morning; it’s amazing Katje has absolutely no gag reflex as she almost swallowed an adjustable wrench, 5” bolt, and Phillips screwdriver. Later in the day Katje assisted in replacing an outside flood light, re-potting the house plants, and cleaning out the gutters. All my house plants go on the enclosed patio in the summer then back inside for the winter. Sunday the temps will be near freezing so I have to move everything back inside this week.
Ran some trains; the 4x8 layout is up and running. A couple more hours of work and it will be ready to be delivered.
Saturday and Sunday train season officially starts for me with the NMRA Division 4 Carnival Train show at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds. If anyone is there between 10 and noon Saturday stop up and say Hi, I’ll have my International Orange Coast Guard hat on. I might be pushing around one of our club members that recently broke his hip…..

Good Morning (Afternoon), everyone. I'll have the stuffed French Toast, with home fries, and a side of bacon this morning (or, better put, bacon with a side of French Toast ). Since it's a bit chilly this morning, I'll have a big glass of OJ as well as the coffee. Thanks Flo.
The weekend was pretty good here -- there were about 100-110 people who came through the museum, which is a little below average ... though once word starts getting around that the roundhouse itself is open and that people can see the 4070, I have a feeling that the numbers will skyrocket (eeeep).
Sunday morning I was able to finally get around to changing out the rapido couplers on my F-1. Since it's an A/B set though, I'm keeping the rapido couplers in between them for now. I learned a few things with that project.
1. MT couplers are a pain in the rear to assemble... make the Kadees look a right walk in the park.2. That assembly jig is not only helpful, but required -- I should see about picking up the "starter kit" at Berea ... if not there, than LHS.3. the original pins/clips used for the Rapido couplers fit through the mounting holes in the draft gearboxes with a minimum of reaming (yay!).4. These are a lot harder to uncouple than KD.
Next project --> find my mill file (or obtain new one if existing one is not found), and go to town on the A unit's weight, in order to fit the decoder under the shell. Then ensure motor isolation, etc for installation of said decoder.

Good morning. It's 60° with 95% humidity. Mostly cloudy. High 75°Bill paying day. I have a couple of bills to pay online then I'll be in town paying my bills at those places that refuse to go to online billing. Today I'll pay off the last item I bought through the History Channel Club and pay off THE LAST payment on my Life Membership. That'll be that much more money I can use for something else. I don't think I'll get much done on the grain elevator today. If I do it would likely be on an upper smaller structure that will be on top of the one I worked on yesterday. I also need to work out how long the galleries will be.Well best get about the business of the day.

Goooooooooood Mornin', cardiologists' delight please, with extra bacon this morning. Thank you.
Today starts a wonderful project. One so wonderful, I've been putting it off for a week-and-a-half now. The school district I cover gave it's Annual Yearly Progress/Annual Progress Report for the "No Child Left Behind" requirements. Last year (2011-2012 school year) the proficiency scores went down, significantly and across the board. But, the district is more or less better than the state average.
The Curriculum Director blames the major shift on using a new test. In the past, they used Iowa Test of Basic Skills "A" or "B." Last year, they got the brand new Test "E" which is aligned with something called "The Iowa Core Curriculum." So, new test, shift in what's taught when, and not everybody on the same page with what's to be taught = big drop in scores. THAT's their story and they're sticking to it.
So, this week I'll be looking up NCLB info and State Dept. of Ed. info to see what is what and if THAT is truly THAT.
Or maybe I'll go tear out the tub and shower. I hear THATs a really relaxing, no-stress kinda project...
Have a nice day peoples!

Feeling a little to my stomach this morning.
Ever had odd things pop up in your dream from your past? Last night I had a real old memory became a dream? How many old Drag Racer's remember Jungle Jim? Well he was sort of in the dream, but it was mainly about Jungle Pam! You older guys will know why I have such a big look on my faces!
First thing I did when I got up was Google Jungle Jim and there she was! Have no idea why it came up in the dream last night, have not thought of them in years? More like 30 years?
Time for my med's.

Good morning everybody.
Kansas....... I recall going there as a child because we had relatives there. I grew up in northern IL, and we had relatives in KS, MO, and IA. There were some long road trips without freeways and without air conditioning. I recall passing numerous Burma Shave signs and numerous smelly barnyards.
We returned from our trip to northern IL late last night....... It was my 50th high school class reunion. My classmates are truly remarkable. Now, they look older than their parents did when I knew them 50 years ago. We all had an enjoyable reunion. However, we are sad about those classmates who have passed away. Many of my classmates have done amazingly well and accomplished many things with their lives. .... If there are any young people reading this post, I must say your next 50 years will pass by much faster than you can imagine now. So, please do not waste any of your precious time.
You DIners will be interested in this part. We traveled early so we could make a side trip to Wisconsin.
Prior to the trip I emailed Jim Hediger of Model Railroader and asked if MR could accommodate visiors. He invited us to a visit, on Thursday.
Jim conducted a tour of Kalmbach's headquarters just for us. We saw many interesting things. I took photos, but I have not yet loaded them in the computer. I'll tell you more and post some pictures in the next day or two. ... Today, I'm busy with a lot of other stuff.
I also need to look at recent days of posts here in the DIner, and I will respond when I get a chance to do so.
Happy Model Railroading.

Well, Toto, follow the yellow brick road to Atchison...
we're off to a start on our trip around Kansas to the Atchison Rail Museum, 200 S 10th street, Atchison, Kansas, 66002. Situated in Atchison, Kansas, the Atchison Rail Museum was founded in 1988 by the Northeast Kansas Railroaders Society. One portion of the land was leased from the city, and the other part was purchased from the Santa Fe Railroad
"The museum exhibits an outdoor collection of rail cars, locomotive and rolling stock from the old Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe Railroad. It also is the home of the 811 steam engine. Rail collections include the Santa Fe 789 Class, built by Baldwin; Missouri Pacific Eagle Merchandise Car, Santa Fe Caboose, Missouri Pacific Caboose, Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Post Office/Baggage Car, Burlington Northern Caboose, Missouri Pacific Snow Plow, and Missouri Pacific M of W Dining Car".
There are enough of folks likin' the ol' AT&SF so i thought we'd start here!
Why is it so FLAT around here?
Gotta wait for a phone call from the furnace repair people. gotta get a few scripts filled. Waiting the mail as a bill that usually comes the 28,29, 30th isn't here yet and today is the first...better be here now. Say, my MR and TRAINS mags usually come the same days, wonder where they are too? Most of our bills come the middle of the month...at the point before they roll in, we look like we are flush with money! Then it all goes bye-bye real quick!!
Oh my aches and pains...
better go get to dishes and laundry...

Mornin' everyone! Yep it is still morning here as I start to type...
Zoe, I just need a refil of the dark roast coffee please. At least they do have good half and half around these parts!
Mice! I have mousies in my house again! Found the calling cards on the rails in the upper staging yesterday so I know they are new! Set a trap upstairs as the cats have been once again staring under the refrigerator and the stand alone cupboard there during the last few days. The trap I set down cellar netted me a dead mouse overnight. Has been re4set. The one I set near the refrigerator was empty, but this morning Blackie was busy intently staring under a dresser in my bedroom. I carefully pulled out the dresser and sure enough he had been staring at a mousie... The trap is now under a box with a hole in it next to the dresser. The box has a gallon jug of water on top to keep the cats from getting slapped by the trap! I thought I had all the holes to the basement plugged! Guess not.
Currently 62°F and partly cloudy outside here in the Finger Lakes. The high will be all the way up to 65°F later this afternoon. I have to watch the granddaughters for a while tonight so their mom can attend a Parent Teachers Assoc. meeting.
Galaxy, sounds like a great museum. Imagine THAT out here in the middle of nowhere.... Only kidding...
Catch you all later!

JimRCGMODennis, I like your weathering on that RS-1. What all did you do for that?
Thanks,
I used weathering powders from Bragdon Enterprises..........that and Dullcoat.
The yellow on the handrails does need to be touched up though.....I used Daytona Yellow from Pactra paints.......although I do have another paint I would like to try ...it is Pactra Acryl basic yellow.....it is made for painting lexan R/C car bodies.
As for the radiators...........I just used diluted black Polly Scale paint that took about 3 to 5 applications to get the right look.

Evening All,
Man am I beat. We did a bunch of fall cleaning inside and outside and of course the light fixture in the laundry room quit working (new light bulbs did not help. I put a meter on it and no power). So off to Lowes I go and then installed that and now it works.
I go back to w**k tomorrow afternoon so I think I will sleep in some tomorrow. Yesterday I installed quite a few lights in buildings. In fact all I have left to do is the meat packing plant (3), farm house (1), and put a second light in the engine house. I will do a night running video when it's complete. If I say so myself it looks pretty darn cool.
Cape Jim- I got 5mm yellow LED's (modeling 40's) with the resistors already attached. I soldered long wires to the lights and ran the wires to a Miniatronics Power distribution Board ( 1-24 dual wire connections and 1-12 dual wire connections) (PDB-1 & PDB-2). I power each board with a Radio Shack 12V power supply. It is not hard to do but tends to be very time consuming depending on how many buildings you have. This system will also work with Tortoises.
Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

12 hour day, wow, I'm beat!
Ray, you got Meeces?? Wanna borrow midnight? He loves Meeces,,,,to Pieces even!!
We had Meeces in the house when we 1st moved here 2 years ago,,didn't take long for that to be over!!
This in their normal activity,,,let a mouse in, and suddenly 2 Ginsu wielding assassins emerge from the fur coats!!
Ken, Jungle Pam? Wow! Her legs look to be about a quarter mile long! If I would have known about her back in the day, I may not have paid so much attention to the silly Snake & Mongoose rivalry!
And yes, I have been to Kansas. My sister moved there when I was 15 to attend KU. As we are unloading the U-Haul van, we get to stop and watch a twister, about a mile away. I asked her, are you sure you want to stay here? She did for the next 4 years,,,she got her degree and moved back to the right coast with us!
Got stopped by a Kansas State policeman on a subsequent visit, for going over 100 mph in a 70 zone, between Lawrence and Topeka. Got a verbal warning He took pity on a kid who lived in an area where cars couldn't go that fast for more than a mile or 2 at a time! (He had followed me almost 10 miles!) Somehow I don't think I could ever be that lucky today!

October- the Eight month history:
Middle English octobreLatin OctoberLatin octo "eight" + -ber (adj. suffix)Latin october mensis "eighth month"
October has always had 31 days.
Looks like we will be in the 30’s starting Sunday evening…
Some of my friends including the LHS have fallen victim to the ransom virus. Something tells me they are not running the full versions of either MacAfee or Norton, I’ll find out tonight as I drive around town to collect laptops for reformatting and re-install of the operating system.
I pulled the house plants back inside last night for winter is fast approaching…..
Well almost time for me to head out.
When I get done work at 4:30 I have a job interview at 4:45. I told her I dont have time to go home and put on some nice clothes and I would be coming straight from work. She said thats no problem. So hopefully IM home around 6 tonight.
Might drop by later on tonight if I can

Lunchtime!
Make that and a for me, Zoe dear!
Sold all that Z scale stuff today, but did not quite get the money I was hoping to get. That stuff is just too old (and worn) to be able to retrieve big money for it. The amount I got for it is OK, so I am not really unhappy with it. It does influence my plans, though, which I will have to "scale" down a bit.
My friend Lothar took me to the place, which is half an hour´s dive from our town. With the prices of gas at close to $ 9 a gallon now, I could not afford to drive there by myself. On the way, the two of us developed a business idea. Lothar commutes more than 3 hours a day to and from work, and, while he likes his job, he is sick and tied of spending so much precious time on the road. There is a need to change that! All we need is about 1 million $$$$ to build and operate a scale 1 model railroad, following the prototype of a local branch line closed in the early 1960´s. We need a hall of about 2,500 sq. ft. for that and year´s time to build that up. It would not compete with Miniatur Wunderland, as we don´t want a show layout, but show people, what real railroad operation was like in those days. Break-even would be reached at 40,000 visitors per year, with 80,000 visitors a year we´d be able to pay a nice dividend! Key problem is to find the right location - a location that already attracts a lot of folks and where this layout would be a perfect addition to make the place even more attractive. Maybe a crazy thought, but, well, I´ve got the time to investigate into such a venue.
Have a splendid day, folks!
Good morning. It's 55° with 100% humidity. The high will be 82° and it'll be mostly cloudy.Nothing on my schedule today but rest. Yesterday was a busy day. I may work on the upper portion of the grain elevators main building later.
Good morning!!!
Coffee and the breakfast pile please, thanks.
Officially waiting for the tile to arrive at Menard's. Ordered it yesterday at the urging of my wife. So, what's that leave for me to do? Everything else in the world. First, laundry. I also best drain the pump in the pressure washer before I forget about it. That means a trip to Wally world for some RV anti-freeze, WHICH is across the street from Menard's and right next to the Chinese buffet so I'll plan that trip around lunch time. Hey, as cheap as fast food, less the tip. A burger, fries and a drink at Burger King yesterday cost almost $8. For less than a dollar more I can eat til I need a nap and be waited on by a girl who smiles when she takes my plate away and tries to make idle conversation before tilting her head slightly, smiles again sheepishly, then nods a couple times as she returns to her chores because even she realizes whatever she said didn't make a whole lot of sense. At least she has an excuse , the girl at the drive up does not. Also better start the snowblower, but I think I have a bit before I need that. At least I hope.

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Good morning.
I'm glad the Diner was busy during the time I was out of town. I have a lot of catching up to do. Here goes.
Mobilman44 ... Welcome to the Diner. I have enjoed your posts in the general forum. I, too, am 68. You are in Houston, and that is where I was born. You had been in Chicago, and I grew up west of there.
Dennis - PA ..... Welcome to the Diner. I have seen you green locos in teh general forum, and I think they are very nice. Also, your RS1 looks real.
Dan .Ne06874 .... Good to see you here.
Jeff ... Nice work so far on the grain elevator. I was not here to tell you my favorite for concrete color. It is Rust-Oleum Camouflage 1917 Khaki in a spray can. It has a sand / gray color. Concrete has sand in it, and this is close to that color. After spraying, I brush on a mix of india ink and rubbing alcohol. Finally, I lightly weather it. One recent project was my Union Station, and I did it that way.
Todd ... You must be "stalled" with the shower stall.
Barry .... Having a cold may seen funny, but it's snot.
JR ... Glad to hear the NH I-5 is in operation.
Ray ..... I like the photo of the corner store and old vehicles.
JohnBoy ..... I like the old information about monorails. ... Did you hear about the monorail company that went out of business? ... Their operations were suspended.
Stan ... You mentioned foggers made by MBT. I'm not familiar with that company. .... The picture is still not on the wall. making other changes in teh room fist.
Dennis Choo Choo Willie .... Good to see you in the Diner..
Ulrich ...... I hope the tooth is better. .... I could not model in Z or N myself also. Too small.
Tom - PA ..... You mentioned bureaucracy regarding test supplies. That stuff drive me crazy. Now I hear, doctors will be required to send our medical records to bureaucrats in DC. That violates our privacy and increases givernemnt spending. Dumb stuff.
Galaxy .... I am sorry to learn about your furnace problems. I suggest you contact your states consumer protection agency. Also, there may be a regulatory agency overseeing heating contractors that might be helpful. Perhaps, your state representative can help, too...... Meanwhile, you can post the origin of the phrase, "ripped off" in one of your interesting posts about phrases.
Jim CG ... You are doing great with the gas station. I made one too. Mine was missing the signs from the kit, and after getting no responses from the manufacturer, I made my own signs.
Chris ..... Are you still dealing with THAT editor? ............ Youyr photos are interesting.
Ken ...... You have interesting photos, too. ... Regarding your BBQ, are you living with the "grill of your dreams"?
Karl kbkchooch ... Good to see you here in the Diner.
Vincent ... You seem busy. Good to hear that.
Curt ..... Seems like there is always someting needing repair such as your light fixture. Keeps the home improvement stores in business.
TSF .... We were close to your neck of the woods.
Sam in MS ........ Hope you are doing well.
Sue .... Dry there, too? .... I think most of the country had dry weather in 2012.
Jim Mononguy .... Good to see you in the Diner.
Lee, Jeremy, and Bill T .... Good to see you guys!
Did I miss anyone? sorry if so.
LION on 600 Volts!
