Morning All!

Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes on this warm rainy day other then my work bench is empty of projects until I pick up some supplies. One of my current on going projects is modernizing my GE 70 tonner and fixing up my Athearn SW7.I also have 2 GP7 that needs some TLC as well.Instead of fixin' up I should be 'a' building Slate.Sigh

I shall have a cup and look over the forum.

Have a good'un!

Morning All.

Currently 58 with an expected high of 90 under sunny skies.

I have a closing shift today, then a meeting after the store closes, so I will not get home til around 11:00.

Will stop at the hospital before going to work. They moved my wife from oncology to a long term hospital. The same floor just a different hospital. Something to do with insurance. She will be there for some physical therapy and just checking her blood counts. Don't know how long though.

Should receive my orders from Micro Mark and Walthers today or tomorrow, and since I have tomorrow off, I my get some layout work in.

   Prayers to all in need.

Good morning everyone!

We had a nice weekend at the museum with our local Falling Leaves Festival here. A steady crowd of probably better than a hundred visitors over the two days. I even broke out the B&O caboose markers and hung them up on the old P&WV RR caboose we have there:

The station turned 100 this year and still looks good!

Chris, sorry I missed your email. You can figure on me being at the Museum on Fridays Saturdays and Sundays until the end of the season on January 1st, except a couple of Saturdays including this upcoming weekend. Doug will be running his 2ft gauge Shay this weekend in Bradford, so I'll probably hit that early, and then I have to take my Mother to a family wedding over in Ripley NY. I will be around on Friday and Sunday, though.

Garry, I bought those foggers quite a few years ago for my Son's band, and I'm not even sure if the company is still in business. There are a lot of good fog machines available on the web.

Ken, Jungle Pam is definitely a nice distraction! In another post, guys were talking about Other things we could spend our money on if not the trains, and of course it came around to "wimmin". Well, the only thing I can say from years of experience is Wimmin come and Wimmin go but a Berkshire is forever! :)

Everyone have a great day!

Mornin' everyone, (takes off raincoat and boots...)

"......... and another ones gone, Another One Bites the Dust!"  Done eliminated another mousie over night!  Trap down cellar got it again.  Thanks for the offer of the loan of the cats, Karl, but I have a pair of 20 pounders here already and I think they might either get very territorial or go hide (mine are declawed).  Last Spring Manét came running from the kitchen to the office to show me he caught a mouse.  Very proud he was!

Zoe, I'll have a couple eggs over easy, bacon, and a double order of sourdough toast to start the day.  Real butter on the toast please.

Cold, wet, icky day outside here in the Finger Lakes.  I think I will concentrate on some items in the train room and put away the materials from the Meet last Saturday.

Lion, nice weathering of the rails there...  What?  Oh it's 1/1 scale.....

Stan, nice caboose!  No, not referring to the photo Ken posted....  (Don't want to get in trouble with the wait staff you know!)  I assume the inside is restored to new condition as well?

Best get a move on...  I slept in again this morning, so I am running late.  Not that it really matters to a retiree...

Since today is traditionally the Feast of the Guardian Angels, may your Guardian Angel be watching over you!

Paul .... Good to see you. I meant to include you in my long list.

Larry .... Thanks for the update of the Land of the Buckeyes.

Ray ...... Another Mickey bites the dust, eh.

Stan ... I like the photo of the old station. .... I suppose if somebody wants a fog machine, they should get it before the Surgeon General decides second hand fog is bad for your health. Smile, Wink & Grin

Good grief, and I thought gas was bad in Alberta at +/- $5.00 per US Gal. I wouldn't want Lothar,s fuel bill wit that 3 hr a day commute!

Dennis - Lothar drives a Mazda 3 Diesel, which gives him nearly 60 mpg. Diesel fuel is a little cheaper than regular gas, but even so it is a big drain on the pocket book for him. His job doesn´t earn him riches, either. His monthly fuel bill exceeds $ 230 ... Whistling. And don´t talk about wear and tear on the car.

Its been a slow day today - wasn´t really up to anything. I am completely undecided which way to go in terms of model railroading, so I better give my plans a few more thoughts before rushing into anything. Sun´s slowly setting over here, so it´s happy hour - Janie, how about some Drinks, please?

Our Mazda 3's over here get only like 30 MPG!

Anywho,

I am waiting for the furnace man to come {actually he looks more like a 'furnace boy"..I am amazed at how young these Doctors, repairmen, and etc are starting to look! I OBVIOUSLY am getting older! They don't look old enough to drive let alone repair something..on a body or a thing!

Well, I have some scrubb ing to do so I will busy myself twith that. Had a major boilover onteh stove the other day so have to scrub it off. I HATE that chore as much as I HATE when a boilover happens!

MOH says the MIL is getting real close to nothing-ness. She sleeps a lot, drifts off in conversations, adn hardly eats at all. MOH goes over everyday after work to see her. Since I am nto along when MOH goes, I haven't seen her lately. That's OK as when i do, shes always calling me fat and remarking how much weight I gained after my stomach/esophogus Corrective surgery!

Well, I'd better get off now

Now you make me think about my own statement. Let´s see, whether my math is right...

Lothar claims, his car needs 3.8 liters for 100 km. 3.8 liters are just one gallon and 100 kilometers are about 64 miles. I can confirm those 3.8 liters, as this figure is not unusual for those turbo-charged, stratified direct injection Diesels. How come the Mazda 3 in the US consumes about double?

Good..um..Afternoon, Zoe - had to see what time I was on (but I think all of Kansas is on the same time...Smile, Wink & Grin). Oh, yeah - I'll have a bowl of chili with some grated cheese and a few grated onions, please, and a RBF. Thanks!

james saunders

Night...

LOL - Good one, OzJim! Thumbs Up

Gee the way everybody was yesterday, Vinnie may get a call from the Kansas Board of Tourism (or his counterpart there...). Oh, and Ulrich, I don't think they have those big herds of bison roaming the plains of Kansas anymore - how long ago was it when you were here last? Whistling They may have some local ranchers with some bison they're raising, though with the drought through a lot of the Midwest this past summer, I know even in Missouri our ranchers have been selling off cattle to just try to cut their losses (feed costs are quite high...).

Hey, Todd, if you want a longer day trip, we have a Menard here (brand-spankin' new)! Hey, maybe if you sent me a photo of the tile, I could ask ours if they have the tile in stock. Whistling

Lee - groooaannn...Laugh

Dan, you make me glad I'm in HO scale, hearing about N scale couplers. Thumbs Up Glad you got yours done!

Chris, nice photo of the Kansas mountains there! Whistling

Ken, while I don't recall Jungle Jim or Jungle Pam, she looks like a few of the gals on mechanics' shop calendars I saw back then...Whistling

Jeff - Roman numerals on the watch? (cool watch, by the way)  Bet Roman numerals are one thing that they haven't digitalized or "got an app for that" yet! Not sure if Roman numerals are taught in school anymore, even.

Monon Jim, good to see you in the Diner. Cowboy

CDN Dennis - if you're talking about the same stuff I recall for mice, it'd w**k with mice, but a bigger mouse or rat would just haul the thing away...Surprise

Curt, thanks for the info on your lights - who's the company for the LED's w/resistors? (You can PM me or email that info)

Karl, I wonder if Kansas troopers get very many 'passing through' kids doing like you did?Smile, Wink & Grin You were lucky, though.

I don't know how cool it got last night here, but this morning around 8:30 a.m., it was still only 52 F. I turned the electric baseboard heaters on (to the lower setting) last night, just in case. The thermostat on them won't kick 'em on if ti doesn't get that cool. Only supposed to reach mid-60's F (18 C) today, but it's already 66 F (19 C).

I stayed up way too late last night (got stuck on, and on, and on...) with chess game on my idevice (till about 1:30 a.m. So I got up later than usual, and still barely made my 10:00 a.m. haircut appointment.

I got in a CD of the Jan. 1954 ORER (large PDF file with section bookmarks and all) that I bought off the Bay. Seems well worth the money. Now super-duper-huge DVD MR  collections, THAT is another matter... (no offense intended, Kalmbach...).

Broadway Lion - such a 'shcoking' photo! Smile, Wink & Grin Good to see you in again. Yeah Any new projects you're doing?

Brakie, sounds like you are (almost) caught up. Oh, that my w**kbench was half as cleared as yours is..Whistling

B&O Stan, nice photos (especially with the cloudy day you had for lighting!). That station is in amazingly good shape for that old. If one of our Diners (Duke) wakes up (since you did mention Berkshires...), you two can have a nice conversation about Berkie, I'm sure. He tends to nap in one of the back booths. Smile, Wink & Grin

Garry - welcome back, and cool that you got a tour of MR when you were in the area!

Paul, I forgot whether you had mentioned - what do you have coming in on your orders? Your wife continuing to heal up?

Ray, did Manét have his 'trophy' for dinner? A psychologist I w**ked for a while back had one cat that would whap the mouse on the head, but didn't appear to want to eat it. (Just play with it...)

I still have a bit of a headache this morning. Had one earlier, but thought getting some food into me would help (only so-so...). May head home and get an aspirin (strongest thing I have in the house currently). Might take a nap, perhaps. I don't go on-call until 4:30 p.m. tonight.

Will NOT be staying up late playing that chess game tonight if I don't get called out...Sad

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G. (with nagging headache - me, not the city)

Jim, the couplers themselves aren't so bad (worst part is the spring -- but that's no worse than replacing a Kadee knuckle spring -- in fact the draft gear boxes SNAP TOGETHER!) -- the hard part is not having the special "coupler building" tools.  In HO that's not always so bad -- just makes things easier.  In N scale, they're apparently mandatory.

Got annoyed with the Rapido couplers in between the A/B unit, and replaced them as well.  Next up is finding where I put my tools and tearing apart the frames to work on modifying them to allow for DCC decoders to be wired in and programmed.  *MAYBE* I'll even get them done enough to run on the N-scale modular club's layout this weekend at the train show (not likely ... ).

I've driven a gas powered Mazda 3, don't think there's a diesel version here. At least I haven't seen one. It's a nice little car but I prefer something a lot bigger. I have enough space in my vehicle for all the lumber and supplies needed for a good sized layout and still get a few passengers in. Just don't expect to pass a lot of gas stations.

Even if there were an app for it I doubt if it would work on my ancient Blackberry. I put the watch in one of my coin collection cases last night. Maybe it'll be worth something in a few thousand years. You could probably pick one up from the factory for about 50¢.Laugh

Well, the Furnace BOY {who is like 22 but doesn't look old enough to drive} has left and WE HAVE HEAT!

I asked how long the warrantee is on the new parts, and he said he'd have to get back to me with word form the manufacturer. I said I wanted it in wroting so they could send it to me. I want to know so if the parts fail i know when they are covered.

Yes,. teh Mazda 3's I was talking about were gas versions, but there shouldn't be any much difference of like doubling it for going diesel. oh well..

WEll now the furnace should last ten years I hope..parts from china can be hard to come by!

Well I guess now I can take a nap.Zzz

Jeff - with the price of cars and gas in my neck of the woods, anyone is still happy to be able to own and move a car. Lots of folks are giving up on it these days. Gas has gone up again today - just in time for tomorrow´s national holiday...

Jim - actually, I have never been to Kansas - too far east for my taste. But I saw a recent movie on Kansas, with big buffalo herds grazing peacefully on the prairie grass, until a band of soldiers started to shoot the. They were wearing blue uniforms. Could it be that the movie wasn´t so recent?

Calling it a day for today. I am tired from doing nothing.

It's a nice 70 here. We're expecting a low tonight of 55 with a chance of rain.

This morning I had expected this to be a day for resting. My father had different ideas. First, breakfast at McDonald's. Then a trip to Wal-Mart to stock up on supplies for relatives coming Thursday. My younger sister and her significant other are coming down from Pennsylvania to visit for bit. Then visits to several law offices and the courthouse to make sure all the records on my parents property is straight. You see, my parents are selling their house. It'll still be in the family, it just won't belong to them anymore though they'll have a lifetime lease on the east wing. Still, all three legal heirs have to be there, of which my younger sister is one. My older sister and myself are the other two. One of my relatives here is the buyer. And yes, she can afford it easily! If I even look at the electric bill for that place my bank account screams and faints! Heck, my electric bill and car insurance together came up to just over $110 last month and that doesn't come close.

Finally got back home after 2pm. I was quite restless so I went out and mowed the grass. That ate up a few hours. Then since my father is working tonight I fed his dogs and the cat. Boy that cat has the dogs well trained. She comes through the door first. They have to wait.

Well after that busy day I'm fairly wiped out. So I think I'll call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Evening guys

been kinda busy, kinda passed out today. I forgot to turn off my alarm last night, so it woke me up at 5. so I slept for 6 hours. I tried to go back to sleep but gave up around 7:30. after some computer time and eating, I went back to bed around 10. Woke up around 1. Went out and took the exhaust off of my car (more of a pain than taking it off my father's car, the AC lines are right next to the headers on the drivers side. Went to a work meeting, then came back only for my dad to want me to hold a different intake while he ported it. Never really got the chance (when I wasn't sleepy) to try the styrene on the fuel tanks. I will try tomorrow morning. In good news I have 2 dates tomorrow, let's just hope both girls show up. lol

Dennis, part of the problem is IMO the US (and I think canada) have some strict emissions regulations compared to other countries. My car got about 18 city MPG before I, uh *waits for vinnie to leave* removed the catalytic converters and EGR (emissions stuff). I got 24 MPG in town after removing them. It also made my car almost a full second quicker in the 1/8th mile.

Garry, intresting about the restaruant in Kentucky doing that. In Wisconsin, if you hit a deer it counts as it being hunted. And therefor it's legal to eat. As for a restaruant, IDK.

Vincent

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf please.

I managed to get some quality time in the train rooms today, and have almost finished with the staging area in the "new" room.  Last time I showed a photo of the area was a couple weeks ago I thing.  i was balasting the track on the upper staging at that time...

Since then I have been slowly getting more done.  After backing the Lakeshores Limited back onto the track, I decided the blue sky at the level of the track doesn't make it.  So I decided yesterday to put some foliage behind the track on the wall a la the Endless Mountains of the Southern Tier of NYS ( like what was in Stan's photo yesterday...), so here she is tonight.

And looking down the track...

Hope you all have a great night!  Prayers for all in need.

Good Morning from Germany!

October 3rd - a national holiday at this end of the Big Pond. "Day of German Unity" the day is called to commemorate the day, when the former German "Democratic" Republic in the east ceased to exist. One of the first acts of the unified parliament was to decide upon a surcharge to federal income tax to pay for the massive rebuilding of that part of Germany. It was supposed to be charged for 12 years, but is now in its 23rd year... Whistling 41 years, the West had been paying to keep the people of the GDR in their part of Germany and thus keeping the communist rule in place, for 22 years we are now paying to also keep ´em there. 22 years ago, the population of the former GDR was 17 million people, it is down to a little over 11 million now. 6 million have in the meantime moved to the West. Since 2 years now, we have started to pay for our fellow Europeans - I wonder  for how long we will have to put up with that. Without the EU, Germany´s state coffers would be filled to the brim ... Whistling

No, Janie, this is not a rant - just stating facts.

A day to be merry and frolic in the Autumn sun like Puff, the magic dragon? Certainly not for all!

Darren (Stourbridge Lion) has resigned from his post as user moderator of the Kalmbach forums. As it seems, I am the only one left to do the honors. That´s a little heavy to bear, so I am looking for someone to share this task with me. If you are interested, please drop me a PM.

Good Morning All,

60F and intermittent thunder storms today. We load for Virginia International today and leave tomorrow morning. Two of the rigs will go on to Daytona for a test and the third returns so we can get ready to do the VSCCA season finale at Lime Rock the week after.

No layout time again but I am getting ready to install the feed buss and hook up the drops (plus add a few I didn't get to yet). So far I see three zones and one reverse section but I'm not sure if I need anything special for the turntable yet as I haven't built it yet let alone install it.

Kansas eh? I like Kansas - no hills = good mileage with the truck.

Ulrich - gotta love those temporary taxes. As for the rest of it, well - diner rules forbid discussion, no?  Hope you get dome help with the modertor gig - a pretty thankless task but there you go.

Ken - good luck with the doc tomorrow. Tough to get that toe to heal completely when you're on your feet all day. The boot makes for a good wheel chock but don't try to push start anything - they tend to break the sole of the moon boot. Then the docs get really angry with you........

Well, times wasting so back into the shop I go.  Catc y'all later,  J.R.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and heuvos rancheros please. Thanks.

Scattered showers. Cloudy, with a high near 72.

Came home last night to find Brenda has removed a strip of decorative tile from the front of the tubSigh. Said she never liked it and wants it to match the decorative strip that will split the middle of the shower.

Garry- Road kill deer huh.Hmm Well, I guess as long as I think it’s chicken…..I’m ok. That was really nice of the magazine to give you a tour. Kinda shows they really care about each and every reader/hobbyist. Not a lot of businesses will do that. Looking forward to some more photos from your visit with our hosts.

Jungle Pam. I was pretty young but I think I vaguely remember her from when she was “helping” Jungle Jim. But I definitely know who she is from years of magazines and following drag racing. Preferred her over Linda “Miss Hurst” Vaughn. Pam used to get into some pretty….um….”interesting” positions shall we say, to check out the cars position at the line if I recall correctly.

Ray- Yesterday you mentioned running late. Well that is quite possibly the single most used phrase I use since retirement.

Vincent- In Illinoyz, if you hit a deer with your vehicle, you must call the State Police and report. A trooper will show up, see the deer has in fact met it’s demise through interaction with a vehicle and you are asked if you want the deer. If you say yes, you’re given a tag and off you go with it. If you decline the thing, if possible of course, some semi’s render a deer pretty much inedible even if you could scrape enough of it up, it is taken to a packing plant and supposedly processed for food for the needy or food lines or something like that. I don’t think that happens much though. I could be wrong.

Welp, events for the day have not changed from yesterdays accounting except after I put a generator on the old fitty six Ford pickup this afternoon, there’s the addition of the Homecoming parade this evening. Funny thing, when Brenda mentioned it this morning, I had a recollection. Last year I came to the parade from working on the same truck getting it running and road safe for the trip to the body shop and was wearing the same bib overalls. Ah tradition.

But first……..watch ZivaStick out tongue.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

GMTRacing
good luck with the doc tomorrow. Tough to get that toe to heal completely when you're on your feet all day. The boot makes for a good wheel chock but don't try to push start anything - they tend to break the sole of the moon boot. Then the docs get really angry with you........

Boy do I have experience with all that! And the toe problems too! A couple of times I lost all the skin off the bottoms of BOTH feet. It just peeled off like it was nothing.

Ken, you've only glimpsed the tip of the iceberg. Take extremely good care of that toe or you'll get a good look at more of the berg. And keep in mind what I said about Charco masquerading as cellulitis. Nasty condition with possible life threatening consequences.

Good morning ..

I started a thread for the visit I had at MR HQ.

Here is one of the pictures.

This is my friend in IL (Reggie). I named my junk yard after him because he has accumulated lots and lots of stuff. The good stuff he has includes at least one of nearly every item made by American Flyer Trains. He is retired, but he works part time at a hobby shop just for the heck of it.

..................................

Ulrich ... I hope Darren will still post here. I like his posts.

Todd .... You never know what is in those Chinese recipes. I hope the cooks here in the diner don't get any ideas.

Ray ... Your layout work is very impressive!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, lots of dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR mug and a big bowl of Organic Pumpkin and Flax seed Granola please.

Sugar was up a little this morning.  Nothing serious, still in the OK range.  It has been staying in the high 90s or low 100s (Under 110) in the mornings.  Today it was 127... Likely because allergies are kicking in big time around here and I have been sounding like Barry was a few days ago for the last couple days.  No, not a cold, just itchy eyes and stuffed up nose and sneezing now and then.  Guess I need to clean the HEPA filters and get them going for the Winter.

Ken, I don't like the sound of what you are saying about the toe at all!  Keep off your feet as much as possible, and good luck at the surgeon's office.

Todd, running late has a whole different meaning from back when I was w*rking.... Smile, Wink & GrinLaugh  Now it is a way of life!

Barry, keeping you in my prayers for a good report!

Sue and Garry, thank you for your kind words...  I am if nothing else having fun creating my own little world.  Of course there are people in my family who say I have been living in my own little world most of my life. Whistling

OK, time to check mouse traps!

Later!

Good morning. It's 69° with 75% humidity. The high will be 82° and it'll be partly cloudy.

Nothing much going on today. I'll be going to town later to do a bit of grocery shopping. No noise from down the hill so maybe I can get through the day without my father adding something to it. Work on the grain elevator is progressing slowly.
