Good Morning from Germany!

October 3rd - a national holiday at this end of the Big Pond. "Day of German Unity" the day is called to commemorate the day, when the former German "Democratic" Republic in the east ceased to exist. One of the first acts of the unified parliament was to decide upon a surcharge to federal income tax to pay for the massive rebuilding of that part of Germany. It was supposed to be charged for 12 years, but is now in its 23rd year... [:-^] 41 years, the West had been paying to keep the people of the GDR in their part of Germany and thus keeping the communist rule in place, for 22 years we are now paying to also keep ´em there. 22 years ago, the population of the former GDR was 17 million people, it is down to a little over 11 million now. 6 million have in the meantime moved to the West. Since 2 years now, we have started to pay for our fellow Europeans - I wonder for how long we will have to put up with that. Without the EU, Germany´s state coffers would be filled to the brim ... [:-^]

No, Janie, this is not a rant - just stating facts.

A day to be merry and frolic in the Autumn sun like Puff, the magic dragon? Certainly not for all!

Darren (Stourbridge Lion) has resigned from his post as user moderator of the Kalmbach forums. As it seems, I am the only one left to do the honors. That´s a little heavy to bear, so I am looking for someone to share this task with me. If you are interested, please drop me a PM.

Have a nice day!
