Hi Fellas,
Was at the job interview today and I think it went good. I know I made a few mistakes on the aptitude test well on the math portion anyways, lol.
They said they will be doing the hiring at the end of the month so I have fingers crossed that I get the job but for the time being I will have to stay at the current low paying one. Seeing as its early in the afternoon im going to head down to the layout and work on it some more.
Still feeling a little under the weather but I don't feel as crappy as I did lat night or first thing this morning. I actual started to feel better when the interview was done so maybe some anxiety about the interview was causing some of it. Well, Im heading down to the railroad.
Uh.... HOLY MOLY! How did it get this late? Oh, yeah, I have been out to the R&GV RR Museum all morning for a tour group... Chloe I guess I'll have the Turkey Club Sandwich, potato chips, and one of gthose big dill pickles and a cup of decaf for lunch. had a pot of dark roast this morning before heading out to the museum...
Jeremy, good luck with the job!
Ken, same to you! Hope there is still a way to save the toe. If not, hope it heals quickly and that is all they will ever have to remove.
Barry? Any news on your tests? Do pray it comes back negative for cancer!!!
I'm hoping to get a call from a handyman to come over and look at the back porch supports that need repair. They are just about rotted through... Don't want the roof collapsing back there! Have to make a potato salad for the party tomorrow. Annual reunion of my Department from the Middle School. Looks like there will only be about 6 of us attending. I should have hosted something last august, but I was waiting on the Solar panel installation. Next Spring or Summer I will have it here. I will be transporting a lady who was at one time the Dept. head of the "Home and Careers/Home economics Dept for the School. she is a sweet 95 year old lady who is a major character. 27 years ago she taught me how to cross country ski. She used to do downhill but had to stop after having a major skiing accident in the Alps 40 years ago, so she took up cross county skiing!
Later!

Jeffrey I hear ya about time flying by. I was up a 6 AM, had cereal for breakfast plus 3 cups of coffee which still isn't sitting well,, went to do my daily "Honey Do" list for my good wife plus did my daily drop in on a old artist friend just to make su re he's ok and the clock says 2 PM. Time never went that fast before I retired. What gives with that???
Since it was -5C up here in Alberta this am, I planned on taking down the last of the flowers in the garden now that they frozen. Hoped to do it in the pm when it warmed up to +7 C but now I don't feel all that energetic. Oh well, tomorrows another day.....
Here are another couple of pics of my Ïn progress layout".

Vincent - you were going to try to fit in two dates on the same day? Sheesh! Your new tank looks (to my unpracticed eyes) about right on the proportions/shape.
Chris, about your choosing toilet repair Wed. night, maybe you could have a future in politics? You may have had the more productive evening with doing what you were doing... Didja get anything usable out of THAT report, by the way? (I know, the odds are against a lot of school or governmental reports in that respect, but....)
Ken, your Wednesday was one to beat all, sounds like. And sometimes nature calls, other times it doesn't How'd your interview go today?
Brad (twcenterprises) - to the DIner! Have a sweet tea (or other beverage of your choice) on me.
Todd, you might have an idear there about debates - but I doubt that any politician will step up and actually admit to that! Oh, congrats on getting that project done (and maybe getting a half-day or more to catch your breath before she comes up with another thing in need of fixing/adjusting/re-doing....
Hey, I just wrote back DerJohn, who said he is finishing some w**k/repairs to his house's foundation that he started in 2007... I told him that he and Todd were in their own league when it came to long-standing projects....
And speaking of DerJohn, he said that he will be taking down his (N-scale) layout before they move, so if you N-scalers are interested in whatever he is going to be trying to sell off, he said send him a PM. He hadn't told me so far if he was looking to start a new layout when they get moved to Pictou or not, so I don't have a clue what all he'll have for you to consider. So PM him and get the particulars. (Oh, I believe it's Der5997 for PM'ing him.(Nope, I get NO commission or anything from that...)
CN Charlie, sounds like your area's as shy of moisture this year as mine has been. But we get a little here, a little there. Now, if we could get three, four days with moisture in a row, we might catch up (and Chris' toads might return home to the well...) I for one would not mind some of that white stuff falling from the sky (well, maybe not the soap flakes...) - just not 10 inches of it at once.
Speaking of the weather, it's at 51 F currently (and dropping),with some of the liquid stuff coming down (nope, NOT soap...) Think we're supposed to go down to 37/38 F tonight (and as one of our local weatherfolks likes to say, ) "...possibiity of frost in outlying areas." Yeah, maybe on that!
Dennis (on the RR), it sounds like you may have been a bit happier with welding/fabricating, as well as better at it. Think it over, and whichever does a better job of covering the bills and keeping your stress down...
CDN Dennis, layout's comin' along there! Glad you got the forum & PhotoBucket to talking with each other. Got a layout diagram of what it'll be like when you get things (mostly) done? Multi-level, eh? 17 by 13? Man, I would love to have that much room! (Drool, drool...) I take it that's your supervisor in the corner by the layout on that one photo, right?
BF&D, Interesting stories there (and I'd figure likely true, too, for the most part...) And to the Diner! Care to tell our server what you'll have to drink, and fill us in on any MRR'ing/layout stuff you have planned/in process/up-and-running?
Jeremy, hope you hear some good news back on your interview soon.
Todd, I can see what'll be your next project from her - "Honey, I don't have any place to put my clean clothes..." (Just a heads-up, it may be coming...)
Well, yesterday after some training (annual waste/fraud/ethics stuff) for w**k, I stopped by the local Charter cable office. Ended up signing up for their broadband (no cable, no phone, just the broadband) - 30Mbps with a 250GB cap for the month (I should be okay with that...), and they had lowered their installation fee. Last time I went and talked with them, it was about $100(!); now it's just under $20. Guess they realized the old price was costing them customers... So next Thursday after w**k (between 5 & 7 p.m.), the 'installer' will be by. I'm guessing to drop off a box and some papers/instructions. I already have a 4 or 5 port Ethernet hub, and will use wired connections for my 'puters. Reason? First, there are already a bunch of WiFi's that people around my apartment building have (based on when I start up my laptop and have forgotten to turn WiFi off the day before), so even if I wanted a wireless setup for myself, all the other ones would be potential interference for my system(s). Hopefully, that will mean I can get in here more often, since I won't be tied down to the restaurant's hours.
And it's about time for me to mosey on home. Will check back in the morning and see if we have any news on the job interviews, layout progress reports, and other fun stuff going on. for healing, comfort, good reports back, and other needs.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape G.
Evening All,
Sitting here watching the bad news on TV (seems it is always bad) drinking a cup of java.
Did some cleaning around the house, got a haircut, grocery shopped and finished lighting my buildings so I will try to do a video tonight after dark. Tomorrow I am helping a friend sell at the train show in Deland.
Chochow- Thumbs up on the layout. I look forward to your progress pics.
Jeff- Congrats on the moderator job. I know you will do a great job.
Ken- Hope your toe is doing better.
Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Dr. Pepper please. I see we have some new mods and one of them is right across the road from me. You will not have to worry about him. He is not the most likable person in the world but even if you make him mad at you he is still fair and he will not act out of malice or rage. But that is probably known already.
It has been a busy time for me lately. One of my computers, the one I am on now has been down for a while. My dad ran over my satellite line with the lawn mower a little over a week ago and I just got it repaired yesterday. That did not effect my business computer as it is on a special cable hookup. I am not allowed to use it for forums or net surfing. I got the other one fixed just in time. I was feeling the pain of internet withdrawal.
A big well done to Stourebridge Lion and good luck to the new guys.
David Parks I am the terror that flaps in the night!
Good Evening
It has been a dull day here, with no rain, again. And now, a little Spring showed up and is currently headbunting me abouts the head here...lol!!
My day has been spent running abouts the countryside picking up gotta buys and doing gotta do's...and having a lot of hurry up and wait scenarios as well...loads of fun and games to be had here...

Afternoon guys
Finally got the headers on and the exhaust bolted up. The passenger side was a piece of cake to bolt up, everything else just went right into place. My father is trying to replace the springs, rockers, and pushrods (which are 19 years old and have at least 225K on them) with some newer upgraded ones. It's going well except for the fact that the keepers were stuck. They are all off now, and just waiting on 1 keeper (as in it fell down somewhere never to be found). After that it's just set the rockers, put the valve covers, intake, and alternator back on and see what it does.
Todd, Lemme guess, Hooker and Hedman? Last time I looked Niether one of them makes a long-tube header for the 94-95 mustang GT or Cobra, but I think they make short-tube ones for a 79-95 mustang. (if you're wondering, the short-tube headers are compatible from 79-95. Longtubes aren't because in 94 they moved some stuff around) The reason why I'm using the headers I'm using is because they were given to me and someone wants to buy the ones I pulled off of my car.
Ken, I'm going to pull that motor someday. It's 19 years old and has at least 225K miles (odometer was broke when I got it). I have a stroker motor in the works, I just have to get the $ to pay for the flywheel, valve job, balancing, etc. I didn't pull the motor because I didn't think it'd take this long. Eventually I'll get some Accufab Headers, unless my brother gives me his Mac ones (which will be installed with the motor out)
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Hey there Dennis... I started with a layout plan (I think you can see it on the wall in one of the pictures by the doorway and ended up following it in general terms but as I was building, some inspiration came to mind and I did some changes on the fly so to speak We shall see. The staging yard under the window is going to see a major diversion from the plan.
As for the Supervisor, yep that's him. Spoiled rotten Burmese Pure bred who just has to "help"with every single thing which is a trait of the breed. When I'm building building's, working on cars etc. he gets locked out of the layout room needless to say.
Have a good night all,
Train Master I see we have some new mods and one of them is right across the road from me. You will not have to worry about him. He is not the most likable person in the world but even if you make him mad at you he is still fair and he will not act out of malice or rage. But that is probably known already.
Had dinner at my parents place tonight. Homemade cheeseburgers and fries. Didn't get anything done on the elevator with the exception of some planning. I have some detail parts to go on it. Windows, doors, ladders, etc. Also have some parts for a truck loading building. Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Evening Dinners!
Flo, Beer Please, and I wil pick up 1 round tonight! (like there will be any other customers this late)
How today went.
1 Work Front Not a bad day at all Had some good sales and made a extra $212.00 this week in commission. I should have right around 40 hours plus the training pay (funny they pay me more a hour for training than when I am working) so this week pay should be fair.
I also told Eric (manager for now) that they are talking about taking my toe off because I am standing to much. So he said I could keep a chair in the showroom so I can sit when not helping customers.
2 Job Interview Front Boy I feel good about this one!
First I was wrong thinking this was a Semi only repair shop. It is a full services repair center. It is 6 business in 1.
1 General Repair Oil changes, breaks, tires etc.
2 Heavy Repair Head work and engine replacement
3 General Body Repair Mainly deal in normal collision repair.
4 Restitution Auto Body Repair Mainly filler work for the Body Shop when they are slow. They happened to have a 68 Dodge Dart in the shop and I pointed out they had 1969 door handles, not 1968.
5 Full Services Semi Repair I won't be dealing with that much. But I saw a Old Enterprises Cargo Van they only bid 8 hours on to remove decals from the cube van side. Said "you are taking a bath on that one" Bill said "Yea, we have 15 hours in it so far" and they where only 20% done.
6 Have there own Towing Company.
What they where most impressed with.
1 Ran Midas Shops and work at my current job so I know General Repair.
2 Ran a Engine Installation shop. Ran Tech Engines for a few years, we did nothing but engine replacements.
3 I know paint and body.. Only around 20 years or so.
One of the reason's I have a warm and fuzzy feeling is I taken on a tour of the shop and introduced to the employes.Bill was telling them I would be more than likely be working on the Mechanical Side to start with.
Asked me after the tour what my salary requirement where and I said 40K plus a chances for Bonus or commission. Said that was doable!
If I where a betting man I would say I have 90% chances of getting the job.
Down side would be.
There are none! Well, I would rather be in the Auto Body Side but what the heck?
Jim and Curt Thank you for the well wishes on the Toe being cut off!
Vince With 225000 miles and new springs and retainers? Can you say flat cam lopes and tulip shaped valves? At 225000 mile my motto is If It Ain't Broken Don't Mess With It.
OH, on the new job, in the lobby there where some train's on display?
Ken, with vision of a better life dancing in my head.

Near a cornfield in Indiana...
Good Morning!
Woke up with a stuffy nose, a sore throat and a big headache. Time to get the winter gear out of the wardrobes! It´s raining like mad, and the temperature will not exceed 40 F today. I should have known - we have the annual flea market in town - always a good sign for bad weather. They expect about 100k visitors this year, quadrupling the town´s population.
After working down the weekend´s HD list, I might find some time to work on the modules. Lots of fiddly jobs ahead of me ... A big sneezer and all the parts will be airborne.
Flo, I´ll go for black tea with two drops of lemon juice, buttered toast and honey, please.
Barry - a big welcome to the moderator team! 3 of us 4 mods now are Diner patrons - what a coincidence!
Have a splendid day!
Ulrich: Thanks for that....
Now, as to the one big sneeze...I've taken to using masking tape taped down onto worksurface that will hold my parts...even with big sneezes...coupler springs ...uh uh....
**Trots in and sits at the bar**
"Mornin'. I'll have the Hunter's Special. And a little tea with my sugar."
I came home yesterday and saw 2-3 deer in my yard - my lot is partly wooded, and the property behind me is heavily wooded. Since I don't have landscaping the deer can really hurt, I didn't bother them. I'd have snapped some photos, if I'd had a camera handy.
Nothing new on the RR today. Cat is buildin' a new place down this-a-way, and I keep checkin' the job listings. Last I read, production is supposed to begin "Late 2013", and ramp up to full production over the course of 3-5 years. It's expected to bring some 1200-1400 jobs for the place itself, and some 2800 more for contractors in the region, so that's something to look forward to.
CudaKen - good luck on the job hunt, and that toe.
To all who welcomed me - thanks.

Morning All!
Bill,Great photo! I like that station. Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes on this chilly Saturday morning other then I had a doctors appointment yesterday in Mansfield and when finished drop by the hobby shop for some more paint and odds and ends and while there had a long chit chat with a fella I know from the Galion club and it reminded me of the old Saturday mornings..On another bright note everything I needed was in stock! I go back to the Doctors next Friday morning for a follow up on the test I took and I'm sure a stop at the shop well be in order.I shall have a cup and look over the forum.Have a good'un!

Good morning. It's 65° with 100% humidity and areas of fog. It's mostly cloudy but should become partly cloudy later. The high should be 78°.
I'm hoping to get in some work on the grain elevator today providing I don't get interrupted by a certain family member. I get some time to do something and he calls and turns my schedule upside down. That gets really annoying after a while. Looks like the motor in the AS16 is going to have to be replaced after all. It's acting like it has a weak or bad field.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a bowl of hot oatmeal with brown sugar and some raisins to go along with the pot of dark roast coffee. Please and thank you Ma'am!

Had an important email from the Vice-president of the museum. New Bulletin Order dealing with Schedule Time Table for train operations. Having printed it to include in my personal Time Table I am now back...
Ken, I hope you will get the new job. Sounds like a good match for you. Did you mention the possibility of your losing the toe to them?
Today is the Fine and Practical Arts Dept. Reunion. Looks like there will only be about 8 of us showing up for it. Glad it will be inside as it is damp and 48°F outside right now. Thick heavy cloud cover. The afternoon is supposed to be a bit better with the sun peeking out for a bit and a high of 55°F as well. "We're havin' a heat wave.... Tropical Heat Wave..."
Got to run!
Good morning, Diners. Coffee, please, Chloe.
Off for a run.

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
chochowillie Thanks for the suggestion of the geodesic foamt is Not sure what it is so I'd best do a Google on it! The lay out room is 17 feet by 13 feet so I've a good bit of room at my disposal. I'm going to put the suspended ceiling in next before I do any more on the lay out. Not a problem to do now but it will be if I don't do it now! Dennis

Dennis, The web site is Bragdonent.com. There is a tutuorial that shows construction. There used to be more photos on the web site.
Joel does demonstrations at many of the train shows out here. A DVD came with the kit when I purchased a certain amount. His latex rock molds are great, too. Don't use a mold with deep fault lines for your first though. They are more difficult to remove. He has a mold release in the kit that is easier to use than when I started.
Good Morning!!!
Coffee and eggs benedict please. Thanks. I like that stuff.
Mostly sunny, with a high near 53.
Running late. No reason, just been milling around drinking coffee this morn. (yawn) Lazy.
Vincent- Yep that’s the two. Not saying others are junk, no no. Nor that I’ve never had another brand fit fine either. Nor that those are the best. I'm sure someone can tell ofan issue with them as well, just not me. I have Hedman’s on my Road runner. Tried others first, had to cut the flanges to spread the tubes apart to fit on one, another set had to bash the tube so I could get a nut on the stud, and another set fit ok, but bad welding at the collector and….leaked. So stepped up and bought more expensive and they fit fine. There’s also a bit more to headers than just buying a set if you want to actually get the improvement people seek. (unless it’s just the looks which, admittedly, is my driving reason now). Years ago, a guy I know bought a set of well known brand off the shelf jobs based on the recommendation of a well known car magazine at the time. He installed them only to find his actual performance was less. The factories exhaust manifolds were designed better than the headers were. He was surprised because he said it “felt” like the car was better. That of course is not all that common, and with a bit more tweeking to the engine than anticipated, got it back, but never better. Most times there is an improvement just not as much as most people think or read about in the magazines. (chuckle)He later put a tunnel ram on and well that just destroyed everything. (shekes head) Oh it looked cool, but the RPM range for those things is so high, unless you got your foot buried and the revs through the roof all the time, you have a gas sucking pig to drive around. Or you have to jet the carbs down to where it starves near the power band. Not really a happy medium involved there. ESPECIALLY since he had an automatic. So he put side pipes on it and decided to just look cool. Ah the good old days. Only one guy I ever knew made one work on the street. He had a small block Chevy and when he cracked the throttle that thing jumped. Well it was a Chevelle so more like squatted. Never would say what he did. I suppose I might could have figured it out someday, but now, I’ve been away so long I couldn’t even know where to start. So like I said, have fun and I’m glad you are using a track and not the street. The car is your driver so the same problems exist, but the location is much safer and smarter than what we did when I was a kid/young adult. Don’t ever be tempted. Take it to the track.
Today will be….more laundry. Brenda went to the Spoon River drive thing and pointed out she is double layered in clothing. I thought (to myself of course) Well, I see you’ve figured out how to burn through twice as many clothes in half the time. Good for you. That’s what I like to see, more dirty laundry. Lots more. And your quick too. Then I have to be out at a friend’s farm about 2:30. His son is getting married, stepson actually, and they are having the reception there. I told another friend of mine, the one with the bar, that I would help serve beer from the beer wagon from 4 to midnite. I said “4 to MIDNITE! My gosh, that’s 6 hours!! they’ll be so tanked they won’t know how to get home. We’ll find them cars scattered on the country roads and in the ditches through two counties.” I have found out since that the temps are suppose to get down to 33°F. I think I will freeze.
Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good Morning, Janie - I'll have the #2 special, scrambled, and a couple of waffles with maple syrup (the real stuff), a glass of OJ, and a CAW mug of coffee, please 'n' thankyou!
Cool morning today - it's only up to 44 F (7C) by 9-ish in the morning here; only supposed to warm up to upper 50's F/15 C by the afternoon, and with breezes. Got out my winter coat to wear on the way over to the laundromat. Maybe fall has arrived (though the trees' leaves are still green...).
Curt, what you said about TV news, is one reason I have become pretty proficient with the 'mute' button on my TV's remote... Hope you get time to do that video of your lighting in your buildings done this weekend.
Ah, Mr. Parks! Good to see you again (and good to hear your (home) internet connection is back up again. Internet withdrawal can be a nasty thing, sometimes. How're you and your w**k coming along?
Barry, are you getting any rain this morning? Looked like our 'wet' front was heading somewhat across your area on the morning weather scans. Hope your sleep gets back to soon, and that your official test results match up with what you and the tech were seeing. Ah, coupler springs - they are very prone to disappearing, for any occasion/reason, and can roll, bounce, even get caught on an updraft by 'Spring's sneeze!
V8VegaDennis - I'm guessing that professional mechanics (and the 'amateur' ones with the knack for it) learn the quicker/more efficient way of doing certain jobs. (Plus, when I have done any repairs that I have - very few - on my car, I'm checking against a book...) I recall talking with a friend from church who's done w**k on my car, and he said when a guy was trying to sell him some program to do estimates, that the computer estimates for labor were way above how long it ordinarily would take him to do that kind of job. And the pro's who have done the job multiple times, probably know (as it sounds like Ken and others in here have said) about how long certain parts are likely to last, so they may be able to recommend replacing one/a few other parts that can be replaced and not run up the labor (plus save another trip back in a few weeks/months, when that other part dies on ya). Which is why once you find a good mechanic, you usually keep with him(/her).
CDN Dennis - I'll go take a closer look at your layout pics and see that layout plan you mentioned. As for your 'supervisor', yep, I've heard that the felines can be 'layout-wreckers'...
Ken, the new job (okay, prospective job) does indeed sound hopeful from what you mentioned, and sounds like bonus that they have trains in the lobby (might have some fellow MRR'ers there). The fact that they didn't try to haggle or waver when you told them what you'd like for your pay, is a good sign. Hope you get the (good) word from them soon! And I'm pulling for the surgeon to not have to take all that toe off (only the small infected part at a maximum).
Bill T. - (as usual) another great train photo there today! (Even better since it has a Geep in it..).
Ulrich, I hear you about rain and local events - in our area, it pretty much always will rain during the district fair in September. Hardly ever misses it. Hope you will get some time for your MRR module today!
Brad, I'm guessing what you were referring to was the Caterpillar folks, right? Hope that comes about - could help a bunch of people in your area (including you, if you've been looking, as many are nowadays). (Shh... we'll wait and see if Chuck notices...)
Larry (Brakie) - that was an excellent day, if everything you needed was in stock, plus you got some MRR visiting in at that LHS.
Sue, do you have any recent layout progress photos to post? Would love to see what else you & Larry (yours, not Brakie...) have been doing.
Started on some Accurail 2-bay hoppers yesterday. Man, getting all the reservoirs & braking gear in the right places (and to stay in those places while I'm trying to put the subassemblies into the main hopper underbody...) is SUCH fun. Slowwww and easy (and need to use the CA instead of styrene cement, probably, as the directions said...) will be required. Glad I have three hoppers to put together, since I can let one sub-assembly sit and dry while I go on to putting together another one...I will need to find suitably-sized alphabets to make the CAW decals for these ones (which just have data only on them).
And will take my H-L 40 percent off coupon there today, to pick up another package of mini-CA tubes (so I can get those sub-assemblies assembled. Also some de-cluttering is in order (ahem... cough, cough...) around the apartment.
[Edit:] Todd, I saw your post this morning. Hate to rile up your math teacher from school, but if you're tending the beer wagon from 4 p.m. to midnight, that is 8 hours, not six (unless you're tending in Indiana, maybe...). Just figured you might want to know that you're in for a wee bit longer shift than you mighta thought...
Prayers for those healing up, or in need of comfort and other needs. Have some fun today!
Morning All,
Currently 47 with an expected high of 77 under sunny skies.
Well did not make it in to work yesterday, wife is having issues with the new hospital. Staff is not very attentive, had her pain med schedule screwed up, not real quick on getting blood and other bodily fluid samples, very noisy. She is doing better but the staff is not real helpful on the things she needs.Trying to get her moved back to the other hospital where they know how to take care of people.
If I get her moved today I may get to do some layout work.
Ken - I sure hope the job pans out for you, it sounds like it is right up your alley. you keep the toe.
Prayers to all in need.

Hi Bill,
Love that shot of the bay window station, and the bay door on the end of it.
Can you tell me anything about it, such as:
-why does it look so close to the ground ? Was it lowered at some point.?
-Did it ever have a platform ? because if it did the platform would be at the bottom of the windows and that doesn't seem right.
- It almost looks like a black and white photo but it isn't. So do you have any idea of the color scheme that would be on the station ?
- How far out of town was it ?
-Was it in Indiana ?
- Like Cape Jim, I love the Geep as well.
Johnboy out.....................................for now
