Morning All,
Did not sleep worth a darn last night. MOH says her stomach is upset so I hope she has not caught the stomach virus going around here.
Today I plan on weathering the cars that I picked up yesterday and take a look at what it would take to be able to make the building lighting turn on/off instead of on all the time. I figure that will extend the life of the LED's.
Paul- Good for you for sticking to your guns. I had a similar type incident with MOH in January after surgery and had to raise heck to get a potentially fatal problem evaluated properly.
Todd- I feel your pain.
Lee- I hope Dorothy continues to do well.
Ken- I continue to send positive thoughts and prayers your way for the better job and keeping your toe.
Sure hope everything is OK with Galaxy.
Talk to you all later.
Hope everyone has a good day and prayers for those in need.

Currently 47 with an expected high of 73 under mostly sunny skies.
Since it is almost Columbus Day one of the larger casino/hotels, The Eldorado is having their annual Italian Festival. And since I am Italian, it is something my kids and I enjoy going to. They close off three or four blocks of Virginia Street, the main downtown street and have lots of street vendors, selling GREAT food. That is the reason we go. Lots of authentic regional stuff you cannot get everywhere. So my daughters and I will meet at the hospital, vist the wife/mom for awhile, and then head over to get some chow.
Still early enough that I might get some layout work done.
Prayers to all in need.

Hi all,
49 here and raining......high somewhere in the 50`s today.
Got the weekend off so I did some work on the layout yesterday and I guess I do a little more today.

Good morning
Galaxy .... Hope you are okay. How are we supposed to start the day without you?
Bear ... Glad you liked the MR HQ tour photos. I was only trying to share with everybody and not stir up envy. I hope MR publishes more of the MR&T because it is outstanding.
Speaking of my tour of MR, I saw the Bachmann Schabel Car there. Remarkable model!
Thanks everybody for commenting on my scene with the GE 44T.
Curt, if your is the old 2-motor version of the GE 44T, I think it is best not to try to work on it because they have a cheapie mechanism.
Todd, the old iron fence was from an old kit I purchased at a train show many years ago. It was cast out of soft metal and had several sections that were about 4" long. It is installed on the layout end-to-end. It has one gate, but I needed two and scratch built the 2nd one. The gate is in the photo but mostly hidden by the fence. It took a while to paint it and weather it to get coloring I wanted. I think the kit was mad by Alloy Forms, but I'm not certain and I did not keep the box.
Have a nice day, everybody!

Hi Fellas,
Cool out there today ( only 43f).
Today started off kind of bad. The wife had to go to the ER room this morning. We were in and out very quickly though ( only a hour ) I know some people can spend 6-7 hours waiting in there. She was okay enough to go to work, even though I didn't want her to go. She couldn't get a hold of her boss to tell her the situation but the good thing is its only a 5 hour shift so she thinks she will be fine.
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and we will be going to family for dinner. Hope to do a little model railroading later after dinner ( and before the Simpsons and family guy are on,lol ). Well im going to go turn the furnace on a but to take the chill out of the house.
Hi Gang, haven't you got anything better to do than hang out here on a Sunday afternoon ?
Chloe Dear, please, when you are able, would you bring me a double RBF and a plate of home fries.
I must try and keep my cholesterol level up. Lol.
I'm sitting here at work and it is raining out and we haven't seen a visitor all day. So having the time I've been Web-Surfing a little and I have come up with your History lesson for this week. I really think you will enjoy this.
If someone could make it clickable I sure would appreciate that. Can't seem to do it here.
Go to www.byutv.org then look for "American Ride" episodes and then scroll to "Rivers and Railroads"
I think this is a great lesson for us all. Great video ,both inside and outside of the B&O Railroad Museum, and down the old line and some canal shots too.
You will also enjoy any of the other episodes that might peak your interest as I have learned more history here in the 50 plus episodes ( haven't seen them all yet) than I did in four years of high school.
This is a very well done series, and I am proud to forward or recommend it to you.
Tomorrow is our Thanksgiving, but we will be going out tonight to a family gathering about 11 miles east of the city. I'll definitely come back with a tummy full of turkey. After the feast all the women get together and make donuts in a great quantity that are then frozen and used over the Christmas Season. This is an annual ritual. The Guys usually watch football or play cards. We consider ourselves as being helpful by just staying out of the way.
So a very Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian Buddies here and all other I hope you have had a great week-end as well.
Sure wish Rob and Galaxy would check in. Bama too.

Went to my parents place for dinner. My mother was home from the nursing home for the day. She's being taken back there now. Before I left to come back home we all got together for a family photo. Myself, my father, mother, both sisters, their significant others, my niece and her significant other. Somehow the camera didn't blow into a million pieces. I've had all I can eat for today. I have a doctor appointment in the morning so that'll be the morning shot.

Good afternoon, Janie - I'll have a RBF, please. Thanks!
Ray, try here: http://www.pacficcoastairlinerr.com/tank_bands (If they aren't still there, email me)
I was wondering where Galaxy has been, also. Galaxy?
Garry, good to see you have 'switched' your 44-tonner over successfully. Check your email, too.
Curt, I just focused my attention on the layout and ignored the lamps in the back, and it looks like you did a good job on all those buildings. I'll have to go back to your post about how you did it again (and find the details). Good score on the stock cars, too!
Barry, looks like you are getting your appetite back (from the empty platters I see on the counter in front of you...). Your area may have more/better color in the leaves than we do this year. So far, ours are still fairly green - usually by this point, we've had a cool-down and some rain (which seems to 'snap' the colors). However, I've heard that the trees may drop their leaves quicker due to the lack of rain over the summer (and rest of the year).
Karl, your CFO makes some spicy chili, does she? Luckily, I understand that they keep a good supply of RBF ingredients in stock here at the Diner. There's one woman at w**k, who when they have a lunch (for somebody's birthday, or somebody leaving, whatever), often may bring her home-made salsa and chips. I have learned to only take a small, teensy-tiny sample of that... Have fun with your choices today (including maybe some time...)
And since Karl talked about cats, anyone see the set of ads that are on TV now? There's one with dogs 'negatively' portrayed (has 'Party crasher' on the screen as a dog climbs out of water and then proceeds to shake itself dry - all over the party guests, also has 'Potty mouth' with a picture of a dog licking water out of a toilet bowl, etc.) And there's a matching cat one, too. Viewers (if I recall correctly) are at the end asked to tweet to an address their 'vote'... I never have caught the fine print at the bottom; figure it's some fund-raising thing for a pet shelter/humane society/etc.
Ken, I'm gonna go with Karl in assuming that you're kidding about the grinder and your toe, right? Not precise enough to do the job. Definitely a Dremel task! (You are kidding, yes?) (Whew! Saw your post today...)
JaBear, yeah, but you're catching your zzz's while we're still playing catchup with your day.
Todd, from what you reported Brenda saying, yep, I expect that you are about to lose some more hours today... Now, why is it that you don't get to catch up on what you had to put off yesterday (or the day before, or...)?
Lee, good to hear Dorothy's resting up well from her surgery. And good deal on the LED's - how many fit into a caboose lantern, by the way?
Jeff, does your trailer have pretty good insulation (temperature-wise, I know you have good electrical insulation/grounding)? Who cooked this morning, your Dad or you?
Paul, that is good that your wife is getting better care at the hospital than yesterday. AND that she is feeling better some today. You and your daughters enjoy your fine dining at that street festival!
"1:1 PRR-Dennis" - hope you get some layout time in today.
Jeremy (and all our other NOTB Diners), hope you have a very enjoyable Thanksgiving Day tomorrow!
Johnboy - we have a similar tradition for celebrating SOTB here on our Thanksgiving Day. Staying out of the way, yes indeed! Don't want to slow down things in the kitchen (before or after the meals...)
Ah, I see Jeffrey was celebrating his family dinner in much the same way!
As for myself today, I started clearing away some stacks of paper (hoping to have a nice wide path for the cable guy to come hook up my broadband on Thursday - a guy has to start early for some things...). Have weeded out a substantial pile of "shred or just toss out" stuff. WIll possibly shred anything with account numbers, etc. on it, and the rest may go out right before the dumpster truck arrives later this week.
I also (a little like some of what Barry did) went through one of my older drives to find any duplicated 'Tunes that I already have in my current music library. Cleared out one smaller (160GB) drive, and found that another drive (230GB) has something that won't allow me to make a new folder or drag any files to the trash. But then again, it's down a Firewire (IEEE 1394b/a) chain. I will go back later and hook that drive up directly to the MacBook Pro's drive and see if that changes things. If that doesn't do it, time to get out my drive utility programs.
I'll be at the RC for a bit before I head home.
Prayers for our MIA Diners (including Galaxy), for good reports on jobs and healing, and for others in need.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape G.
Just got done helping my mom give the dog a bath.........got some work done on the layout........now I`m going to vegetate and poke around at the model building bench.
JimRCGMOJeff, does your trailer have pretty good insulation (temperature-wise, I know you have good electrical insulation/grounding)? Who cooked this morning, your Dad or you?
Evening All,
We met our daughter for supper tonight. I rigged up my structure lights so to turn them on I will have to plug a power strip into the wall. I was thinking of future modeling projects and I have 3 in mind to do:
1. Finish the container terminal.
2. Detail my RS-1.
3. Install Yard lights around the engine servicing facility.
It's always good to have things to do
Happy Thanksgiving to all of our Diners north of the border.
Have a good evening and prayers for those in need.
Evening Dinners!

Work Front Well it was pretty uneventful today except one little detail, I was 1 hour late! Yes, it was my fault, I remembered the schedule wrong. I normally go in at 11:00 AM and get off at closing at 6:00 PM or when the last customer leaves, which ever comes first. I knew I got off today at 5:00 PM so I thought wrongly I went in either at 10:00 AM or 11:00 AM. I called at 9:24 AM to find out if it was 10 or 11, oops I should have been there at 9:00 AM. At this point the only reason I feel bad is Chris was over whelmed for the first hour till I got there. But, even with that I don't feel to badly, he was the one that called in sick last Wednesday when I was slammed from 3:30 PM till 8:00 PM.
If I get the new job the shop maybe in a world of hurt. It seems Brad (he was demoted to sales person from services manager) is all so trying to get out of there! He will find out Monday he thinks if he has a job at Jiffy Lube. I am hoping to find out Monday as well. If Brad and I Both get hired Monday I might stick around the rest of the week. If I am asked really nice that is!
While I don't disk like Eric or Chris I have no loyalty to this company with the way I have been treated. Or I should say made to feel like I was bothering them when I was hopping to be trained.
See you all later!

Evening guys
Just got back from the track. I got a new best of 8.57 @ 82. So about .1 seconds faster, but 4 mpg over my previous best. I had pulled some of the interior out and saved about 120 pounds, but I forgot to bring the spacers for the skinny front tires (won't clear my brakes without them) and I also forgot to put the cowling back over the air filter. So I probably cost myself .2-.3 seconds. Turns out I have a bum oxygen sensor now, so the fact it ran halfway decent is suprising. It's weird because it works normally at wide-open throttleor anything above 2100, but at normal driving rpms is causes the car to studder. Tomorrow I'll change the sensor and put the interior back in. Not going racing for another month or so.
I did do some work on trains before I left. I partially assembled 3 kits, so I have 3 left to put together. Probably will go to a hobby shop in pensacola, so I can pick up some styrene, Kadees, and some athearn mini-bulbs.
I'll swing by later.
Vincent
Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Didn't get much of a chance to work on the layout today. Too busy with family and watching my sisters, niece and their significant others working to clear the west wing of the house. I think they're realizing what a task they've set for themselves. Even that side of the house on it's own is huge. My whole trailer (8x25) could fit in the kitchen with room to spare!Time for me to call it a night. I have a doctors appointment in the morning. General physical. I should be back to my duties on the forum no later than noon. See y'all tomorrow.
Evevin' (Brrrrr) folks! (Siver, shiver, shiver!!!)
Janie, hot decaf, really hot decaf please!
What a day! I forgot to pack a heavy insulated vest I have to take out the Museum today, so all I had was a light nylon jacket over my usual trainman's get up. Wasn't bad until it started raining out this afternoon. I got drenched and hypothermic! The rest of the day was "Interesting" should I say. Not one of those days we look forward to.
I got there at 9:30 which is normal crew call. Nobody in sight. A few minutes later one more volunteer pulled into the parking lot. Nobody else showed up until about 10 O'clock. I think the Operations Superintendent had car trouble this morning as he rode with the guy who was the engineer. The two of them head over to the 80 tonner. The other guy and I continued opening up the exhibits and cabooses. After 15 minutes, the 80 tonner was still silent and they were bringing back the trickle charger they had left on the batteries overnight. Batteries were dead. The decision was made to use the 45 tonner Beebee Station. She is parked up the hill in the restoration shop. So about a half hour later she comes down the hill ready for service. She has to move the 80 tonner and the Erie Caboose from the track they are on back up the hill to get over on the arrival/departure track. This means pulling 150 tons of locos and caboose up the 4 to 5% grade on the hill out of the station with all of 300 Hp! She did it! Notch 8 roaring wide open and barely crawling, but she did it! Of course she also moved them without brakes... so came down the hill a bit hotter than we like. She did stop short of the other caboose and was coupled with no problem. She then had to move the 80 tonner back up the grade and to the engine track where she was stored. Did that just fine. We are now after 11 AM when they should be departing Industry Station for Midway. Beebee Station comes back down and couples onto the consist and we hook up the brake hoses. Pump up the brakes, and no brakes! Tried several times (we have been having this problem sometimes this year) with no success. So they dumped all the air and started over. This time we have brakes. They are now about an hour late for the first run! The day went downhill from there.
We had a good crowd but full of those type of people that think rules don't apply to them... I only made one run up the hill on train crew and that was to give a car host a break. The rest of the day I was museum guide. About 2:30 the conductor asked me to go light the pot bellied stove in the station office so we had at least one warm spot for people since the kerosine stoves in the cabooses weren't working either! Did so with only one match after finding enough kindling to get the stove going. By that time it was pouring rain. Cold rain! They were making comments about liking to have an old Boy Scout leader around...
I see most of the rest of you had a good day! Thanks for the ideas for the hoops on the water tower. I was planning on using the round type bands rather than flat ones, but I will do some more research on what was used around 1910 or so. The hoops to be in scale have to be no bigger than .09mm. Fishing line would be way too big as would even thread. I was trying to put on a .09 guitar string which is the right size, but holding it in place (even after annealing) ended up with globs of unsightly CA glue all over the place and the wire still not staying in place... The idea of drilling a fine hole and putting the wire in it to hold it may be a good possibility as would the suggestion of the bands printed on paper. I shall try a couple more things after period research. Thanks folks!
Good to see so many new posters here in the diner! I see Galaxy is still amongst the missing... Do hope he is alright!
A happy Thanksgiving to those folks up North!

On my way in to see my wife I get a call from her saying she is tired of the chicken she has been getting since she has been on solid food for almost 5 days and wants taco's. I stop and get some and she enjoyed one but did want to overdo it. Hey as long as she is eating solid food and keeping it down I am happy with whatever she eats.
The daughters, and son-in-law showed up about an hour later we all hung around and visited for about an hour, and then we went to the Italian Festival. Food was great as usual, and we all over ate a bit. Went back to the hospital and visited for another hour or so, and got home around 6:45. Nice day all around, even if I did not get a chance to work on the layout.
Ken - hope you hear you got the job.
Happy Thanksgiving to those up North.
Just a short visit to this place. Petra took me to the ER yesterday, as I suddenly developed severe breathing problems. It´s not the heart, though, but now I am on antibiotics. Second night I did not catch any sleep. I´ll be back as soon as I am feeling a little better.
Have a good one.

Evening All, Certainly got the rain today but the temperature certainly was colder than forecast, in fact when I got home from w**k "her in doors" had lit the fire , first time in about three weeks, and a big change from the shorts and T shirt temperature of yesterday..
Howmus Ray. Teach me not to read properly and then make assumptions !!! For some reason I managed to think that you had written .009 and was also working in inches. . If I've now put my brain into gear before typing nonsense, and now presuming that fuse wire is the same thickness, here and there, 10 amp fuse wire should be close to .09mm. To cut along story short, would that be easier to work with? Good luck no matter what.
TA462, don't know if it's the autumn colours, but that red certainly is red. Reminded me of an outfit a friend of mine worked for in London, GB, where they were paid, quite handsomely, to decoratively spray mud on the 4 wheel drive vehicles of the" well to do", which had never been off the tarmac! They also had a valet service which then cleaned and polished the same vehicles. Apparently the company did quite well out of it.
Thoughts and best wishes to all that need them.
Cheers, the Bear.

Good Morning all....
Well, did it get frosty out here last night..everything is all frosted up here...going to get to a high of 54F later on today..with a cloud/sun mix....we can see the cloudbank to the north of us'uns even now....
Today is our Thanksgiving day and as we are speaking the turkey is right now in the oven for a good little while...we are expecting company later on....hohoho...
Anyways..have a good one!!!
Good morning. It's 50° with 91% humidity. It's mostly cloudy now but will clear to partly cloudy later. The high will be 70°.Just having a look around before I head out on my doctor appointment. I'm not looking at getting anything done today.
Good morning, Diners. I need an extra large coffee this morning, Chloe.
I worked on my car shop yesterday. I got all the battins on and started working on the sliding doors. I was going to do a stain on it, but I think the glue I used may not hold, so I guess I will use a rattle can when I get to that point.
We still have a burn ban. Rain is predicted on Friday, but at this rate, I will believe it when I see it.
Garry, I love your junk yard.
Later, Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Good Morning All:
Jim, I think you could stuff 2 of these LEDs into an HO-Scale lantern, but I think one will do. I’m installing current sensing block detectors on the layout and the cabooses need to be lighted.
I went and had my 3-month lab work done yesterday to see if everything is ok I should get the results back on Thursday.
Things were a complete wash-out yesterday and didn’t feel like working on the 4x8 in the damp and cold. Today will be rather cool, but no rain so Katje and I will be heading outside shortly to install a couple of ground throws and some ballast.
I’m going to inventory the haul from the train show…
Ulrich, you really need to stop visiting the ER. Hopefully things are ok and you avoided pneumonia or other nasty upper respitory issues.

Good Morning!!!
Coffee and a couple shrimp spring rolls please. Thanks.
Hm. Still no Galaxy.
Areas of frost before 8am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 59. Currently it’s (gulp) 34°F. Getting cold fast this year.
I guess a big ol “HAPPY THANKSGIVING” is in order for our Canadian friends.
Lee- I hope Dorothy keeps getting better.
Garry- Thanks for recollecting for me about the fence. Maybe I’ll just hunt for some corrugated stuff. IIRC, they make corrugated sheet "metal". Been awhile. If it turns out half as well as yours, I’ll be happy.
Jim- Funny, before she said “we’re going…” I had said I needed to mow the yard that day. When we returned from our outing, as I pulled into the drive she, having nothing better to do but look out the window I suppose, said….”You really need to cut the grass.”
TA- So that’s the jeep huh? Nice looking thing.
Ken- I hope you hear some good news today. BUT it is Columbus Day, the day we celebrate the man who…..well, I‘m really still not sure what he actually did for us other than get lost and land on some island thinking it was India. But we get a day off and even that is not clear (like why we celebrate) who gets the day off and who doesn’t. Banks and schools here do, but Brenda does not so that means the Chicago Board of Trade doesn’t either. So if not today, hopefully you’ll hear tomorrow.
Ray- Do they make nylon guitar strings in that guage? How about thread. Oh! Like Bear said, how about a strand of multi strand wire?
I live my modeling life through others.
As for me, not sure whether I’ll do the books for the Church today or tomorrow. Bank closed and all. Checked on the tile order and it’s not scheduled to be shipped until the 24th so I talked to Brenda, who by the way is not real happy about that little delay, and we decided to alter the “design” of the tile for the shower so I can start without it AND be ok if for some only happen to Todd event occurs such as can’t get that tile anymore. 100% chance it won’t happen to anyone else, but for me the odds aren’t so good. If I start requiring that tile…..”the strangest thing happened Mr Marshall. Never seen this happen before, but for some reason we can’t get the rest of the tile you started with.” THAT’s my luck.
Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Ulrich- Please take care of yourself. Even after the hospital stay 3 weeks ago I still have a productive cough and now MOH and Son are starting to cough.
Happy Columbus Day to all us Yanks.
Currently 44 with an expected high of 74 under mostly sunny skies.
I have a closing shift today, so a visit to the hospital and then wook get home around 10:15 PM, so no modeling for me today.
Ulrich - Take care of yourself, I hope it is not something serious.
Jeff - Hope your dr visit is a good one.
Ken - Even though it is Columbus Day I hope you hear good news on the job.
pascaff* Jeff - Hope your dr visit is a good one.
Ulrich: If this keeps up you're gonna have to hang a 'Home sweet home' sign in the ER. Those respiratory problems aren't pleasant. I've had my share of them for sure.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a short stck of Buttermilk Pancakes w/ real maple syrup, a side order of bacon, a glass of OJ, and my usual dark roast coffee in an R&GV RR mug. Please and thank you Ma'am!
A happy "Lost Explorer Day" to all of you here in the U.S. of A. and a happy Thanksgiving Day to those North of the Border, and a happy day no matter what to everyone else!
Ah, sunshine! ("On my shoulders makes me happy" On my roof makes me even happier!). I will be spending most of the afternoon helping my son do some cleanup over at his house. He has yet to do some things that needed to get done last Spring, so I guess it is time. Both he and his wife have the day off so it is one of those rare days he can actually get things done around the house without watching the daughters.
Bear, You assumed right! Don't know where mm came from in my mind. I was shivering too much I guess so the brain wasn't w*rking right. The wire is .009" Very, very fine, and works out to around 3/4 inch in 1/1 scale which what they used for the strapping.
Jim, the bands are not flat. They were solid 3/4" wire, if you will) that was threaded on each end and tightened down to hold the wood staves in place on the water tower. I have not been able to find any photos of bands being used for them. They are exactly the same thing used to hold stave silos together on farms. Usually there are three sections to make one band around the entire silo or tower.
Todd, nylon strings are not even close. Way, way oversized, and I would have to figure out a way to paint them as well... I think the suggestion (forget who made it) to drill small holes into the tower and put the end of the steel wire in it and then around the tower may do the job. I will try it ASAP.
Ulrich, glad you are feeling better! Emergency Room trips aren't fun...
Think I will out on a coat (still only 50°F with a freeze watch for tonight) and go watch the meter run backwards for a bit...
Galaxy......? Where are you!?!
Later!
