Sir Madog
Will be calling it a day soon. Still have to catch up on some sleep.

Exactly why I was late this morning. Sleep was more important. I haven't had much lately.

The loco in that video puts any Alco diesel I've seen to shame! What a smoker!

All kidding aside we were worried and glad you are on the mend.

Hello Everyone, Some of you may remember me? I am what you guys call a lurker but I really enjoy following some of your posts and I keep up with them each day. Thanks! Anyway Todd, Builders In Scale offers two styles of metal roofing and siding material,I just used some of the Heavy Duty Corrugation part #535-H For a tin roof on a model I am building. I weathered it with ferric chloride that I bought at my local electronic supplier. I followed their instructions and it turned out really good. Looks old and rusty. but you can paint or leave it shiny silver, how ever you want it to look is up to you. They have several really good suggestions on painting or weathering. Check out their web site. I hope that helps.

Jeffrey     Love your fire house! Must be my 30 years plus of being a Fire Fighter. Anyway, Being a retired fire fighter, I spotted the, cabinet ?????? laying in front of the pumper and thought, that would never be allowed in real life, the ramp has to kept clear at all times. Trust an old worn out fire fighter to notice something like that!!!

Hope there aren't any fires on your layout the crews will have a delayed response because of the obstruction. Big Smile

Cheers to all

Thanks Dennis. I'm a retired volunteer firefighter myself, dept Safety Officer, 1994-2011. In that particular scene somebody had failed to properly secure an a/c unit and it ended up trying to cool Sundown.

Hi, All! 41f and still yucky out.

Thanks for the kind words on the pics, everyone. Means more coming from fellow modelers!

Yay!!! Rob is back!!

Lee, count me as a photobucket user, works great and no complaints.

Wonder if we'll get more diners since the mod announcements? People will know that the diner's a no-nonsense establishment, except for the  occasional pie.Big Smile

Good Evening, Chloe - I'll just have a Dr. Pepper in a go cup, please. Thankyou!

Sniff, sniff! What IS that smell in here? Surprise Eeyeeewww...

Ulrich - please stay awayfrom the ER, and do finish up your doses of antibiotic. We'd like to see you back soon!

Speaking of back again soon, has anyone seen Galaxy post in any other forums/boards?

Lee, who makes those LED's? Think I may want to try ordering some of those...

Todd, I can tell you that if you'll be able to see the top of the corrugated metal fence you're wanting, avoid the plastic versions (which I found too thick unless you are using them and can only see them head-on, so to speak - i.e., not from above..). Campbell's, I think is the company that I found is closer to realistic-looking thickness (the company who made earlier wood structure kits, pre-laser-cut days). I may see about taking some pics of the fence material by them that I have, and post in a couple/three days for you. By the way, have you got the grass cut yet? Whistling

Ken, I may have had one of your 'those' days. No lunch, and between the two of us covering walk-ins, we saw 13 people (one of whom I ended up taking about two hours with (wondering if I'd have to hospitalize both the person and their s.o....). Almost (*almost*) got yesterday's paperw**k caught up, but not quite...). Sigh

Didn't get to the P.O. today to pick up a stylus for the tablet, and a 1TB drive that I hope to partition into 2 drives (one of newest oper. system, other for my current one). Guess THAT package will be there tomorrow (if I get out over lunch tomorrow...). Also need to go pay rent tomorrow - latest that I have ever been on paying it to current landlord).

Ray, sounds like your day at the museum was not terrific, eh? And best wishes on finding somethng suitable for your water tank bands.

Jeff, I hadn't realized how big your folks' house was, until you were describing it. Wow You do, at least, have excellent insulation for your place. Like your photo of that old (Sabine?) bridge. Thumbs Up

Had pretty good luck last night - I had emailed a MRR order to my LHS owner/MRR club member for some things I wanted to order, including the Walthers modern roundhouse that is in the sale flyer. But about dinner time, I get a call from him, telling me that one club member has the 'older' (non-modern) Walthers roundhouse and wanted to sell it for only $35 if I wanted (so I told him, heck yeah!). I like saving on my MRR purchases wherever possible... Now, so long as the rest of the order doesn't (in usual Walthers style...) get back-ordered on me...Whistling

Paul, if your wife is getting tired of the hospital food, that is a VERY good sign! Thumbs Up

JaBear - how long were you in the doghouse for mudding up 'her' toy? Smile, Wink & Grin It does look good, though (well, when it's clean - don't know about how mud and red go together. Smile

Hope all of our Canadian Diners have rested up from their Thanksgiving Day gorging feasts...DinnerZzz

Dennis (1:1 RR type) - hope you don't have to start job-hunting soon. Oops Was the exchange of words with the boss over something important, or other stuff?

SaronaTerry - another great MRR photo of your layout. Thumbs Up Good to see you in again! (Like your dry grass in that photo, by the way!) May your son return home safe and sound, to empty the sand out of his boots! AngelAngel

Karl, it's okay - Barry's family is used to eating lots of stuffing, cranberries, mashed potatoes, yams, and the the other parts of the dinner than the turkey... Smile, Wink & GrinDinner

TSF - yep, I'd agree with you; that is NOT any reason to start talking foolishness like that... No offense, Chloe, but no relationship ending with a gal is worth wanting to die. Oh, you agree, but feel that no relationship with a guy ending is worth it, eh?

What? I had not heard about Stein's death. Ashamed Sudden or not, that is a loss to the community here. AngelAngel for his family.

Well, I have to get going for now. Hope to get back in tomorrow (maybe after Charter connects my broadband...?)

Prayers for Stein's family, and for all others in need of healing, comfort or a good night's rest.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

Terry- Special Prayers for your son.

Garry- Thanks for asking about me . I just don't take the extra time to post after peeking in the window. Vinnie still has it in for me  I seem to stay five to 9 pages behind. Hard to catch up.   With my wife's medical problems, some that I have, family and friends meds, to come to the Diner and read about more, well, it gets too much for me. Don't forget, I drive a wheelchair bus and take folks to their doctor appointments . Some of them I've know for all 8 years I've been doing it.  As much as I enjoy the friendship accorded me, seeing the pictures of what you folks build and the joshing we all share, it just gets to me, mentally ,all the medical problems you all right about. I'm physically and mentally tired. I'm up by 4:30, out of the house by 5:30 and lucky to get home before 6. It is now 7:57, I need toshower and to sleep. My alarm is going tobe set for 4:15 as I have an early start tomorrow.

Blessings and Prayers for all I love you all. [Brotherly, that is.]

Goodnight. Flip

I also like making scenes with little whimsical things in them. Many times they aren't obvious and can have you suddenly wake up in the middle of the might thinking 'Did I see that?'. Many times it's a little thing that seems like it doesn't belong but is hard to see and at other times it's something obvious 'hiding' in plain sight.

Flo, beer pleases. (there a shocker for you)

Pretty tired right now so I will post about today Thursday.

Have you ever had a odd dream that became true? I did last night and today it happened. No, I did not get the possible new job and I did not win the Lottery.

Nor was Jungle Pam Involved, I wish.

Good Morning Gang!

Good news - I found some sleep last night, not enough, but i big improvement from the past nights. Bad news - my tooth acted up again, waking me up at 3 am. My attempt at having breakfast did him in, finally. The dang thing just broke apart! Went to the dentist at 8 am and now I am minus 1 tooth, a strange feeling.

Oh, Murphy seems to have moved in with us - the car is also acting up Dead

Not really my day!

Chloe, just a glass of water, please. I am not supposed to eat anything for the next few hours.

Have a good one!

Evening  Jim, t'was not I,sir. It was TA462.

I'm not that brave, or fool-hardy, depending on how one views these matters. That said however, as for the doghouse, well as much as I try to keep out of it, even after 22 years of marriage, I still manage to end up there. Sigh Can never earn enough "Brownie points" to stay out for long either. Stick out tongue  "C'est la vie."

Well as it's now 2334 hours here with the current temperature of 45 F, with a forecast high of 64 F, and  a busy day tomorrow, I will forego the delights of the diner and wish you all a good night, or day, depending on where you're situated.

Best Wishes and Thoughts to All who need them.

Cheers, the Bear.

Good morning. It's 65° with 100% humidity and patchy fog. It'll be partly cloudy with a high of 88°.

I'm not feeling good today. Chest pain and lower back pain are having their way with me and I don't want to do anything that requires movement. Looks like no work of any kind today unless something changes.

Good morning, Diners.  I have time for a cinnamon roll with my coffee this morning, Chloe.

Hi Flip.  Glad to see you checking in.  Your early schedule sounds like mine.

Rob,  Sounds like you are enduring crunch time, trying to get all the outside chores done before the weather changes.  I am sure that your sister has mentioned that our rain is scheduled to start on Friday.  As soon as the sun comes up, I am heading out to haul our split firewood up to the woodshed.  Nothing like waiting until the last minute.LaughLaughLaugh I am so lucky to have a bucket on the tractor.  It saves my back muscles.

Terry,  Another great shot.

Later,  Sue

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and…….let’s try the blackberry jelly donuts again today. Thank you.

Good to see Rob from GA checked in and OK. Happy five-0 late.

Thayne- Hey I remember you! Welcome back and thanks for the tip.

Jim- No mow yet. Waiting for more leaves to fall.Whistling

Flip- I understand. Just glad you are still around and I’ll wave at you through the window hoping things improve.

Tom- Too bad about the restaurant. I too prefer small Mom and Pops myself. I grew up with them and just well, I guess it’s a fond thing for me to feel if you know what I mean. Besides, they tend to have the best fried chicken.Dinner

POF- (Personal Opinion Follows)

Unfortunately when it all boils down to it, for the most part, it’s not the economy, it’s not the giant chains and it’s not the internet. It’s us that runs Mom and Pop businesses away. If you don’t patronize them they can’t survive and well, with todays people they tend to go to the Walmarts one stop shop and pass up the little places. 20 years ago our town Williamsville, Illinoyz) used to have 4 restaurants. 4. A grocery store, 2 gas stations, laundry mat, Barber shop and a hardware store. Plus some other things too but can’t remember off the top of my head. Now that’s a town of (at the time) roughly 800. Now 20 ye…um…ok maybe 30, but the points the same, now we have yes 2 gas stations, but they are a Casey’s and a Love’s truck stop. Back up to 4 restaurants from an all time low of 0, but one is a McDonald’s that came with the Love’s, a new Subway earlier this year, a Huddle House off the interstate and of course uptown, the Italian restaurant where I w**k 3 nights a week which is, luckily, a Mom and Pop. We still have the bank and the Vet, but that’s pretty much it othern Patterson’s propane. Oh and a brand new carwash this summer. And get this, in the last 20 years (yes 20) the population has…almost doubled. People go to the places in Springfield and pass the local businesses up to eat at Applebee’s. They do the same in Springfield. I think there are only really a few, and I mean a very few like you can count them on one hand and probably have fingers left over, anymore, but new chain restaurants are popping up all over and not a one has an empty parking space. So people are eating out and spending the money, they just aren’t eating locally if you will. My Chinese buffet is a local Mom and Pop,Hmm just not sure where local isLaugh. I’m not knocking the Lonestars or the Outbacks and Sonic’s. Just that if every person, heck, if half the people who ate out included a Mom and pop place just once a month in their round of restaurants they go to, they’d be fine. Same with most other businesses as well. And I’ve always said, the only reason Walmart is so big and has so much buying power….is because we did it. We can blame the Walmarts all we want but the truth is, if we didn’t flock there, they couldn’t be so big. They are the new Sears and Roebuck of a long time ago on steroids.

Enough of that soap box opinion stuff. On to something more important---

Whoa Jeff- the AC unit fell out of the firehouse window again. Better check for damage to the trucks. The AC unit doesn’t seem to have been damaged though.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Todd - I couldn't agree with you more. I feel the same way. This little restaurant I mentioned is a comfortable place to have breakfast. The waitress usually sees us parking the car out front and either has our coffee at the table or is heading towards the table when we come in the door. There is a group of regulars who always say "Hi" and call you by name. The waitress knows what we like. So if I say an omelet, she knows that's a western omelet with bacon, home fries with onions and white toast. I don't have to tell her. When she brings the check, I put a $20.00 bill down without looking at the bill and after she adds her tip, just gives me the change. No fuss, no muss. Like I said, just comfortable.

I know I'm getting old because all the things and places I really like seem to be disappearing.  Tom

Good Afternoon!

Now that this blooming tooth is gone, it still hurts nonetheless! I am hungry, and although it should be OK to eat something now, I don´t dare to. Oh, well, not my day (come to think of it, none of the last few hundred days really has been my day ... Whistling)

Tom & Todd - it´s those little things that really matter. They make our lives a little more pleasant, put a smile in our face. Does not buy as anything, but warms our hearts and therefore, IMHO, is far more important than all the efficiency, the super savings, the big deals and the like. We used to go to one of our local Greek restaurants quite often in the past, when we still could effort to go out. Now these visits are very, very rare. Still the couple running the place know us well, we get greeted with a big hug and the Greek coffee we usually have following the meal is not on the tab. Guess where we go if we have a chance to go out! This is not supposed to be a rant, so Vinnie can stay in the back booth, but today´s life misses so much of the friendliness and warmth that I grew up with. I would not say that this is a result of the economic crisis were are in, as there had been times much worse before. It is a question of attitude, respect and social competence, which the generation after us has apparently not learned. What did we do wrong?

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of hot oatmeal w/ brown sugar and a cup (or 3) of dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug.  Thank you Ma'am!

Nice Fall morning outside today.  The sun is shining for a change (partly cloudy they say) and a current temperature of 44°F.  High should get all the way up to 55°F later this afternoon.

I have to call the Vet this morning.  Blackie the cat seems to be losing a bunch of hair along his back....  Going bald on me.  Hope it is nothing serious for the little guy...

Todd, I agree with your assessment 100%!  I rarely shop anywhere except at locally owned and operated stores.  I almost never eat at chain (so called) restaurants as I can warm up food in a microwave myself if I want to eat THAT sort of crap.  I haven't even walked into a MallWart in over a decade and will very likely go there ever again.  As Pogo once said, "We have met the enemy, and they is us".  Opps, I see Vinnie looking this way...  I'll be quiet now...

Ulrich, Amen Sir!

Last night I went out to see what the meter reading was before heading out to a Class of 64 Reunion Meeting in Canandaigua and...  Some time yesterday when i wasn't looking, NYSEG came and replace the meter with the new one!  I don't know whether it was early morning before I got up or when I was out shopping.  All that is left to do is replace the 100 Amp breaker on the main box with a 90 Amp breaker and it will be done.  Of course there is still the Code Insection and a rather large check to write. Whistling

Sir Madog
Now that this blooming tooth is gone, it still hurts nonetheless! I am hungry, and although it should be OK to eat something now, I don´t dare to.

I feel your pain my friend. I got a bad tooth pulled last year and it was close to a week before I could eat anything hard.
