Garry - I am going to see if I can find a deal on the Proto 1000 model at Timonium. If I cant find one, I'll get in touch with you ans see about taking that one off your hands. Tom

Good Afternoon!

There seems to be a slight improvement today, but any attempt to get some sleep still failed. If I should not get any sleep in the upcoming night, I will go back to the good old Irish cure - hot uisge beatha!

I am still shocked by Stein´s passing. Unthinkable, that he won´t be around to guide a newbie through the jungle of track planning. I have learned so much from him.

My work on the two yet to finish modules has stopped for the moment. There are a few things I need to get before I can continue, but it´ll take a few more days before I dare to leave the house.

If you are interested in learning more about Stein, here is a link to his web page:

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buckwheat pancakes w/ real maple syrup, a side order of bacon, and lots of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug please.

At the moment it is 53°F with lots of brightness outside here in the Finger Lakes.  Wheels are turning backwards at a good rate on the meter outside...  This may be the best day this month so far for making electricity...

I too am saddened to hear that Stein has passed away.  Way too young, I would say for such a helpful and great modeler!

I have an appointment with the eye doctor in about 45 minutes.  I have been getting a sty on the lower eyelid of my left eye, and it seems to have now become "pinkeye".  He is seeing me over his lunch hour.

Catch up to you all later!

 Morning All,

Currently 50 with an expected high of 75 under mostly sunny skies.

I have another closing shift today, and then a meeting after the store closes, so I won't get home til around 11:00 or a bit after.

Wife is cotinuing to improve in spite of the care she is getting at this "hospital". I actually think it is more of a nursing home type thing than a hospital. She wants out and I STRONGLY urged her oncologist to get her moved.

So sorry to hear of Stein's passing. My prayers go out to his family.

Good late-morning all,

Sunny and 59 here in the Gateway to the West.  This is my first post after re-discovering this forum after a 2 year absence.  I've got the day off today after my part time job went full time for a while.  Work tomorrow and Thursday and then it's off to Cedar Rapids for a long weekend visiting my son.  Hopefully there will be some trains to see but there is always something to try out the new camera on.

Lunch in about an hour or so....grilled ham and cheese anyone?

Good luck with the eye appointment. I won't say enjoy as there's nothing pleasant about it. I've had pink-eye lots of times. More than a dozen times in a ten year period. At least one time in both eyes at once! That made life interesting as I had a job delivering newspapers on a two hundred mile route with the rising sun right on the horizon for a while. Great excuse for the wearing o' the shades at night.

What a crappy day I have had....

The wife had to go back to the hospital this morning with the same issue she had on the weekend ( thanks for the kind words from you guys back on Sunday also, sorry I Didn't have much time to sit down and respond ) She was also able to get into her doctor after we left there to see what he said and we hope to have it cleared up.

So I had to call work this morning and tell them in a brief message that I was at the hospital and that I couldn't make it in. So I call them a few minutes ago and told them and you know what there response was...

" We don't need you to come in anymore", they said I wont be required. I said "Why"?? and they said it was because I couldn't come in on Friday and that I couldn't come today ( Monday was a holiday )

I told them I needed Friday off and that I was at the hospital this morning. It was a emergency it wasnt like I was out on the golf course?? I have only been there a week but I don't know if I can do anything as far as report them to labor board? I should be disciplined for that.

Anybody have any tips on that.

And also ( not that I have extra money at the moment ) but the hobby shop I have been going to and spending thousands at for close to 10 years had a sale last week for 20% off  that I couldn't make it too and ended. I emailed him ( the owner ) to see if I could still take advantage of it thinking that would be no problem seeing the money I have spent there over the years. I wanted a $15 woodland scenics tree set and was hoping he would take a little bit off for me. He replied to me and said nope sorry I cant do it, the sale is now over.

I'm a little angry about that, I have spent well at his store and thought he would extend a sale to me? Its not like im some guy off the street who bought one thing. I remember a few times over the years spending a few hundred bucks at a time. Maybe time to find a new shop or buy from the net ( I have only bought a few things online as I have supported him since 2002 ) I know its his rules on sales but isnt there any customer loyalty? I know I have shown loyalty to him...

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, just a decaf please...

Back from the Eye Doc. an hour ago and started to type this....  Several emails that had to be attended to and a phone call from the my sister later, I am back typing. Whistling

Seems I don't have pink eye at the moment just a sty forming.  So no medications unless it gets worse.  He wants me to keep doing the hot compresses to hasten the process along and get it to drain.  It took 5 minutes to diagnose, and a half hour to chat about metal roofs and solar panels.  he is interested in doing what I have been doing too.  He just got a new metal roof on his house last week.

While the sun is still shining, I think I shall head outside and get a few things done needing to get done.

Later!

Nice photo Terry. I have to get our "Sun room" interior finished before I can get down to the train room and get some work I want to do done. I'd really like to make enough progress this winter to have some basic scenery in place by spring. At this point, I am still laying track...

Been one of those days for me. Wife wanted the Fall outside decorations put up, so there went the morning. This afternoon, I went down to the shop to start cutting trim for the window extensions (6" walls in my part of the world - more insulation). Went to set up the big old table saw to do some ripping, cranked the blade up and thought "Hmm, that blade doesn't look right. Grabbed a square and checked only to find the 10 " blade is 1/4 inch out of wack over the length of the blade. By this time I'm looking at a major tearpdown to do the adjusting.

Not today, I've learned to give upt o when a day like today is happening. Indifferent

Maybe tomorrw will be better. Still have to put the fire bird away for the winter Crying but the rain has to quit so the top can dry before I put the car cover on it.

Evenin' folks,

Flo, I'll have the BBQ Spare Ribs, a couple ears of fresh sweet corn, and a cup of decaf for dinner, followed by a couple of Apple Dumplings with Maple Walnut Ice Cream....  I'll be in the back booth where I can enjoy all that.

I rototilled the old garden area this afternoon.  Twas a bit muddy from the rain the last couple days, but doable.  Tomoorw or Thursday I will get some new 4 x 4s to create a raised bed garden.  I would like to get one at least built this fall to see how it goes.  Did a bit of painting on the roof of the water tower at the power plant for the layout.  Decided I need a darker color gray, so I will pick up a can tomorrow.  Did a couple loads of wash as well.  Watch the meter down cellar spin while I was waiting.  It made 14.92 Kws of power today.

Later!

Good Evening,

Terry, nice looking layout you have there!

Dennis ( Chochowillie)  Where in Alberta do you reside? I've been in many towns there espcially when I was working for a predecessor company. Maybe you remember Macleods' stores. That shot of the Symington yard hump you posted is not too far from my MIL's home.

Well we had a rainy weekend here and cool temps. It was only 3C this afternoon but it is supposed to warm up to 12C by the weekend. I hope so as I have a lot of leaves to rake up.

Seems like it was eye doctor day here as I too had a visit with mine. Turns out that I don't have glaucoma but have high ocular pressure which can lead to that disease. The eye drops have reduced the pressure substantially so I was pleased with that outcome.

Hope we hear from Galaxy soon and Rob too.

Well not much happening on the layouts. When I was home last week with that cold/flu I didn't even feel like running a train around never mind working on the N scale. There is a trainshow here this weekend and I hope to go. If there are some good deals on N scale rolling stock I might pick up something but I'm getting very picky. I have about 40 pieces of rolling stock now and haven't really run any of it. I did make a list of it but perhaps I should just rip it up that way when I look into the box I might be surprised and then it would be just like going to the store or like my wife who finds new clothes in her closets she forgot about. She is up to 4 closets full now and complains there isn't any storage room in our house.

Well soon time for 'World Without End' so I'll say goodnight to all.

CN Charlie

Jeremy Far as the Labor Board I don't think they can help you on this one unless things are different in Canada. You are in Canada, right? Whistling If the job is worth fighting for, go in with paperwork showing you where at the ER with your wife. Did you leave a message on a machine or a live person?

Good Morning all,

51F, Hi today 51F, Low 36F, and rain we had a mild frost yesterday morning but not a killing frost.

I’ve had to take care of Dorothy and myself this past week so I’m behind on posts so here is my attempt to catch up:

NeO6874, did you make it to Berea?  I have a friend that has a few unassembled Bowser locomotive kits; he might be interested in selling or trading if you’re interested.

Webshots; my image web site and screen saver went out of business so I guess I’ll be in the market for a new screen saver and web site to host my MRR pictures this week.  Not sure if I’ll go with photo bucket or flicker.  Any suggestions???  I also need to find a new screen saver or see what is native to Windows7.

Jeff, congrats on the moderator position.

I went to the hospital for my 3 month lab last Sunday to see how the vitamin D and calcium therapy has progressed in my system.  Doc said all the tests look really good and I need to keep doing what I’m doing.  I have another set of tests in 3 months.  If that looks good then I’ll go 12 months before my next test.  My energy and motivation is coming back up near 100%.

CN Charlie has snow on his TV?  Adjust the antenna, LOL.

Brakie good luck on getting that house, I’m really ready to move out of this place and into something different, maybe in Lake County.

Barry I hope your tests come back with good news.

Horrible news this morning, the new casino in town experienced a drop in profits again!  They only cleared 21.2 million dollars last month.  I don’t know if they are going to make it, ok I’m being a little sarcastic but when you hear it on the news you would think they are going belly up any day now.  I had to walk to Tower city, where the casino is, to get a new bus pass a couple weeks ago.  I swear the malls are filled with people asking for handouts,  I bet I was asked 24 times in 2 blocks if I had any spare change and most of them had nicer clothes than I did.

Curt, what brand of 44T critter did you give up on?

Barry is a mod? Oh so I guess pie tossing will still be allowed……

Dorothy is doing much better, but she is fairly immobile until her follow-up on Friday.  I took the day off to driver her to the appointment.  I asked if she could change it from 0715 to something later so I could sleep in and miss driving through rush hour traffic.  I have to drive from the NE corner of town to the SW corner and don’t want to drive like I’m a salmon swimming upstream.  So she changed it to 0840, great, there would have been less traffic at 0700!

I have to go through training this morning; emergency preparedness level II.  Level I included important information like: during a lightning storm you should go inside and if a tornado approaches you should take cover in a basement or room without windows.  I imagine level II will tell me not to eat lead paint or yellow snow.  I’m very excited about this upcoming training!

Good morning, Diners.  I will have a quick coffee, please, Chloe.

Nice photo, Terry.  Thanks for keeping us motivated.

I had a short work day.  I only worked until 1:00.  It seems like the flu is hitting  our area.  The afternoon cancelled, so I went home.  It was in the high 60's so I sat on the deck and enjoyed the sun.  The rain is predicted to start on Friday.  Here we go.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a couple blackberry jelly donuts please. OH! Scratch the donuts, I’ll have an Apple Dumpling with cinnamon sauce instead. Oh yum! Thanks

Thanks Garry- That could be it, though I’m pretty sure it wasn’t from Campbell and I think it wasn’t in strips but more like a sheet such as Evergreens sheet styrene.Confused Don’t know, but I’m glad you posted the link because after I wrote that I began to doubt myself that I really saw the stuff or just something else that may have looked like it, or maybe never saw it at all just think I did. I do that kinda stuff all the time. Odd. My Mother used to say that’s the sign of an active intelligent mind…., Brenda says I just make stuff up.Laugh

Paul-  I’m very sorry about your wife’s medical attention. Trust me it’s everywhere. Been through it several times. My wife will accept any floor or wing in Memorial Hospital in Springfield except for one wing on a certain floor. Both my Mother and hers ended up there once and talk about……bad. That’s the nicest word I can think of that I can put here. I hope she gets better and out of there.

Lee- I use Photobucket myself. Mainly because that was the first I used back when. The other is from time to time while looking at pictures in WPF, I get a McAfee warning block with pictures posted on Flicker. Not sure, I doubt really, if there is anything real to it, but apparently there is something at least in the way they are posted, or some kinda trait thing that has similar something to something McAfee looks for when looking for viruses and….things. Sorry for all the technical jargon but it’s difficult for us super brains to communicate. Oh and by the way, when you get to level 4 that's when you learn to leave a burning building.

Ulrich- Actifed is the only thing that works for me when the old snoz starts a goin. It’s actually the acetometaphin, or whatever they use to make dope and causes you to have to get it from the pharmacist, no prescription, they just control it which is not really a problem for me. Nothing but that seems to work well, if at all. Problem is I can’t stay on it long enough to realize it’s usefulness. It makes me….slow I guess you’d say. Kinda like I hear you but it takes a second to register what you said and I have trouble forming thoughts. Must be the pre meth. You know, that is an accurate accounting, but yet it seems when I read it back, it sounds way worse than it is. But it is bad enough that it is at least noticeable to others as well. Mainly when I talk. Takes about 2 days of use. Anyway, It’s the post Nasal thing for me too. Runs down the back of my throat all day and though I take an Actifed at night before bed, due to the aforementioned reason, the stuff that’s been building up in my chest, throat where ever the stuff collects stars re-adjusting for gravity and well, you know what that’s like. I swear if snot were worth something, ANYthing, I’d be rich. I have not figured out how I can generate that much stuff that fast. It’s inhuman.

Hey, speaking of inhuman. Last night at work we were discussing if you could be any super hero ever who would you be. I said Wonder Woman. I mean isn’t it obvious? Bullet proof bracelets AND an invisible plane? Yah, that’s it. The invisible plane.Whistling Wink

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Mornin' everyone...

Zoe, I'll have several cups of very hot, dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR mug, and a bowl of very hot oatmeal with brown sugar.  Huh? Why the "very hot"?  It was 63°F inside the house when I got up this morning!  No, I don't want to turn the heat on yet...

Todd, will you stop talking all that technical stuff!  I didn't understand a word you said!  Huh?  Oh, maybe I should put my hearing aids in.  That might help.

Lee, I'm another Photobucket user.  I got the account back when I was putting daily photos of the Scouts at Sci-Tech Camp up online every day.  I got a Pro Account so the parents wouldn't be greeted by "For a good time call......." type of ad when they visited.  I still pay the small fee to keep garbage off the pages.

Ulrich, take the old German cure....  At college we called it the Kaskas Cure as she was an Artist Teacher of Voice and her cure seemed to work well.  Two shots of 100 proof whiskey, a cup of hot black coffee and go to bed and cover up!  There were times I used the cure even when there wasn't anything wrong with me.  probably your doctors won't let you use that one anymore either...Whistling

Paul, hope your wife is getting better care now!

OK, I turned on the gas heater in the living room a while ago.  Guess it is time.  House is now up to 67°F.  Last night when I went to bed at 11PM the house was still 71° so I didn't want to light the wood stove.  This afternoon we are supposed to get temps in the low 50s and liquid sunshine.  I will be lighting the stove I bet.

Later!

We got up a little early this morning and decided to go get breakfast at our favorite diner. Unfortunately, it appears we will only be able to do this until the end of the year. The lady who owns the place is going to close it down. So far, she hasn't been able to find anyone interested in buying the building. And even if she does, there isn't any guarantee that they would reopen the restaurant. They have a really great breakfast compared to the chains like IHop or Bob Evans. It seems that all the little guys are being forced out of business, and that's who I prefer to patronize. When I told the wife that she will have to start cooking breakfast for me, all she said was "Good luck with that plan."

I spent the last 2 days putting up the wife's Halloween display. She collects Department 56 Halloween Village pieces and I collect their Dicken's Village series. We enjoy them, but I must admit the Halloween Village is very noisy. So we mainly power it up to show it off for visitors. Although the wife will turn it on to look at it from time to time. It's getting kind of hard to do as it requires getting everything stored in the attic and bringing it down to the second floor, then later bringing it down to the first floor. Following that, all the empty boxes have to go back up to the attic. I'm telling you, those stairs are going to do me in one of these days.

After lunch, I need to get the first floor cleaned and run some errands. So take care and enjoy the day. Tom

Good Afternoon!

Not much of an improvement here in the sick bay. Sleeping is still an issue, although I did get two hours of it last night. I seem to have passed whatever it is on to Petra, so there is the yellow flag above our house. Our neighbors probably wonder who that strange dog is which keeps on barking in the middle of the night.

Ray - I am on antibiotics, so a generous sip or two out of a Scotsman´s water of life is out of question, even if we had any of that stuff. All we have is whatever Petra needs for cooking and/or baking, plus an occasional bottle of my favorite red vino.

I am starting to miss Galaxy´s words of wisdom in the morning - where is he.

Blessings to those in need!

Good morning. It's 73° with 82% humidity, mostly cloudy with fog. The high will be 82°. Partly cloudy this afternoon with a chance of rain.

Nothing on the agenda for today except to rest. I might work on the layout later.

Howdy Y'all, hope everyone is doing well these days.

I'll have a please.

Have not had any MRRing time in what now seems like ages. Still working on clearing the endless stumps for pasture, although there is finally an end in sight. Sometime I push a bit too hard and end up on mandatory rest for a week or two. Coming out of one such rough patch right now. Had the big 50th on the 7th. No change that I can detect.

Have a terrific day folks and I will try not to be such a stranger. I think of many of you and your cool railroads often and one day look forward to resuming work on my own. Surely by this winter.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

CN Charley   I live in Red Deer AB. Ma clouds Stores were primary source of supply in my long gone youth as was the Builders Hardware Store. I loved that store! Every Christmas the had the most wonderful Lionel layout in the window.... used to watch it for hours. Builders Hardware was also a Mechano dealer which was a hot item on my list. I still have the Mechano sets and the Lionel train set from those days gone by.

Good that the eye drops are bringing down the pressure in your eyes. Hate stuff to do with the eyes. I had to have cataracts removed a couple of years ago and ended up with a thing called "Tear Veiling" . It feels like there are veils over your eyes all the time and there is nothing that the can do about it.

+2 and raining/snowing this am so it's a inside day for me.

Cheers

Dennis
