Evening All,

Not much happening this way. Ran a bunch of  errands today so no MR work. I was really hoping to weather my 44 Ton switcher today but it was not to be, maybe tomorrow. I'm taking my Mom & Dad out tomorrow for lunch for their 56th wedding anniversary. Other than that nothing much planned.

John Boy- That was a great story you posted yesterday.

Ken- Glad your toe is better and that it sounds like your job is looking up.

Ulrich- Hope you feel better real soon.

Garry- I believe I read that you were having surgery and I am saying prayers for you.

Lee- I feel your pain, my truck alternator died at work last week. Of course I discovered this at midnight.

Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Evening guys

Got my car back after 2 shop trips today. The subframes really make a difference.

I also got a package in the mail. A DRGW F9 AB set, or at least the shells. I'll take a pic of them with my DRGW F7B

Ulrich, Hope you get better ASAP

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Well it was a bit of work that I had to spread over the whole day with a sugar crash in the middle but the three Frankenstein F units are all running again. I had to take the cobbled together Proto/Kato chassis of the last unit out completely and replace it with an Athearn chassis with Proto trucks and a Proto motor. The trucks on the Proto/Kato chassis are trashed. The gear near the top of the tower in BOTH towers were broken and the gear below it was missing some teeth. I knew it took a hard hit but I didn't think it THAT hard. I've seen locos take a nose dive and come up with less drive damage than that. Oh well, the F unit trio is running again, that's all that counts. On the sugar crash, got down to 66. Wondered why I was feeling a little light headed. Did a check and found out why. Time to stop and eat was right then. Meat loaf, green peas, carrot, potatoes and some egg noodles took care of the problem.

Evenin' folks!

Janie just a decaf for me please.....

Spent all evening out at the museum for our July Meeting.  They had the old RG&E 45 tonner 1941 (for the year she was built) out of the shop and pulling a train tonight.  Still have some tweaking of her to do before she will be ready to do major service, but it was great to see her out on the road and pulling a caboose tonight.  I have some photos, but they were taken with my old Digital Rebel that uses a bigger card than what fits ion the side of the iMac.  I will find the old card reader and plug it in tomorrow morning.

I stop at the Mac store on the way to the museum and picked up the drives....  the new 2Tb drive with all the old files on it is now up and running with the iMac!  Phew!  All the data appears to be OK.

Good to hear Ulrich has avoided major surgery for the moment at least and is back home...  Still praying for you sir!

Ken, glad you got some very good news on several fronts today...  On the hunger thing...  a better diet will keep you feeling filled up and keep away hunger longer.  Avoid junk food, and anything containing High Fructose Corn Syrup with a passion.  Diet drinks make your body think it needs more to drink or eat.... just like sugar water ones.... My usual beverage these days is fresh Seneca Lake water on Tap....  Got one of those right at the kitchen sink, I do!  I now eat much more natural foods and avoid anything that is Manufactured.......  My blood sugar has come down about 30 points on average with both the new meds and a diet that doesn't makes me hungry allowing me to lose 35 lbs of weight.  BTW, I got out my Cordoba Classic Guitar this morning.  I can now hold it correctly so I will be starting to get back into some classical pieces on the guitar........

Prayers for all who are in need!

Morning guys

Yeah it's early for me. IDK why I hardly slept last night but I feel alright.

I managed to tear down the 3 DRGW Fs, after taking a picture of them all of course:

I haven't picked a road number for any of these F-units to be when they are redone.

It still remains to be seen while almost all of the non-BN locos I've had were NYC, NKP, or DRGW...

Good Morning All:

Curt, I have the 7.3L engine and I think they put too small of a starter on the engine design.  There is an aftermarket heavy duty starter I can get from the 4x4 place on the west side, but it’s a special order and I would have to buy it and leave it on the shelf until I needed a new starter.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the fruit plate please. Thanks.

Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Now I’ll need a sweater.

No measurable amount of precip yesterdaySigh.

Vincent- Yup many parts for the Roadrunner gone. Most dupes, spares or old parts that won’t be used so why I had them I don’t know. Oh yes I do, cause I just had to keep them because you never know when you might need it. Or them.

Oh and yes I did get rid of that old carry tool box full of engine bolts from various engines that I keep/kept for years. You just never know when you might need a head bolt from some engine you don’t even know what it was. Besides, the nostalgia has worn off having left hand lug nuts laying around. I changed the studs out for right hand years ago.

I’m glad to hear Ulrich is home. My prayers continue for his health.

Brenda just came up stairs to go to w**k and told me what Barry just said. She is a violent vengeful woman my wifeSurprise. I’m not sure her suggested dealings with the guy is tolerated ANYwhere in the world. HmmSounded reasonable and fair to me though.

I think I’ll take advantage of the cool day today since it’s suppose to be back in the 90’s tomorrow and back to 100 Monday, to stay inside and hang a shelf. Then…Confused..laundry. Yup the outside stuff can wait until it warms up.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Glad to hear that Ulrich is okay.

I usually don't work on Friday, but one of my coworkers has an out-of-town wedding.  Today is busy because I have one of my sewing classes.  I have a new machine that is smarter than I am.

 Morning Folks

 Flo, Coffee pleases.

Need to get cracking on some of the projects with me going back to work. Getting ready to power up Decoder Pro and see what happens with the PK SD 7. I am all most afraid to install the decoder with the last one going poof for no reason.

Next, hard wire the MRC F7 A, if it is a good engine I will be picking up the matching unit.

Vince I hated sending you the Rio Grand shells, they are so nice looking. But with out major surgery they where not going to fit the PK chassis.

On the subframe's, does the car ride better? Mad a world of differences on my old Mopar cars.

Time to fire up the soldering iron.

Morning All,

Going to try my hand at weathering some diesels today. Other than taking my parents out to lunch that is the only thing planned.

Barry- It does sound like you work for a company that actually care about their employees and not just give it lip service.

Sue- I am right there with you. Pretty much anything that requires programming or has a computer chip in it is smarter than I am.Sigh

Ulrich- I hope you are feeling better.

Galaxy- Hope your headache goes away soon.

Ken- Is the grafting a in-patient or out-patient procedure?

Hope everyone has a good day and prayers or those in need.

Curt, have to say it is out-patient, said I could go to work the next day.

SD 7 is now cursed! Install the decoder and used Decoder Pro, read all the CV's! Yes But it did last time as well. Whistling This time to be safe, I installed a DC plug from a Athearn RTR and tested it in DC. Thing would barely move? Unsolder all the wires and hooked it straight to the motor leads, kept going slower and slower.

When I first tested the motor free wheeling it only pulled .09 amps and stalled at .45. Installed in the chassis with drive train and free wheeled at .45 amps and stalled at .85.

Guess it is time to open the trucks and all so make sure none of the truck pick ups are touching the frame. Other than that, I am stumped.

 Any ideas?

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of blueberry pancakes and real NYS Maple Syrup along with my dark roast coffee, please.

Ah...  A beautiful morning out there in the Finger lakes. Drizzley sprinkely rain falling.  Supposed to become a steady rain this afternoon....  Could get get a half inch or so they say.  It started to cloud up and was sprinkling all last evening out at the museum so we had only a small bunch of members who came out...  Too bad they missed the first run of RG&E 45 Tonner # 1941......  I still haven't gotten to the photos, but will shortly.  Sorry to those in the midwest who need the rain even more than we do here........

Hope you are having a good day, where ever you may be!

great...stupid caffeine...I drank sweet tea and couldn't go to sleep until like 3:30 am...and then got up early to go get a tile cutter from one of our friends from...like 7:45 early...so yeah, sleepy today haha.

In the model RR world, I have my basic idea for the switching layout, but for my industries and what I want to do, I'm thinking of a slight benchwork extension and building something akin to Lance Mindheim's East Rail switching layout in terms of ops. However, taking cues from a couple of different branch lines, it would probably be a bit more spread out and between two "towns", with a short run in between.

Morning all from SunnyCal:  our temps took a considerable dip the last several days from the remnants of a tropical storm coming up from Mexico, however it put the Robber's fire out, and CalFire has let people back into the area--about 250 homes were threatened, but none lost.  Evidently the fire was started by fireworks.   Tinder-dry forest and some idiot shoots off fireworks.  A good thing would be that if they're ever caught, CalFire hands them a little bitty shovel and a knapsack full of seedlings and lets them re-seed the 2500 acres they burned.  THEN hang them from the Foresthill bridge.

Well, got back all of my yearly labs from the hospital.  Everything looks good EXCEPT that they found blood in my stool sample.  Which means a Colonoscopy.  Unfortunately, I can't handle the prep--the Sodium Phosphate cleansing, because of my kidneys--the stuff would wreak absolute Havoc and I'd probably end up back on dialysis (no thanks!).  So we're looking at an alternate exam, probably a CT scan.  My regular doctor and my Nephrologist are getting together and I should hear something by the beginning of the week.   Hopefully it's just a little polyp or a stray hemorroid.  We'll see.

Finished weathering my 4-10-2, and was very happy with it.  This is my first time weathering with the AIM self-adhesive powders (I've normally used Bragdon instead),  so I did what the directions suggested and gave the loco a shot of Dullcote.  Weathering DISAPPEARED!!   Just went away.  So, I tried it again.  Again, the weathering just went away.  So, does anyone have any little tricks of the trade about these AIM powders?  I never had the problem with the Bragdon, but I like the AIM because the powder seems to be a much finer mix, and a little more 'smudge-proof.'  Right now, the loco is weathered, but unsealed.  I could probably keep it that way, but I don't know how much of the weathering would rub off from occasional handling (and let's face it, we've got to handle these babies SOMETIME, right?).

So, anyway, he're's a photo of the latest (3rd) weathering.

I think I'll leave it like that and just hope that the weathering doesn't wear off.  So far it seems okay.

Ken:  Glad that toe is looking better, glad you've got your job waiting, and hope that pic comes out soon.  Keep the faith, buddy.

Ulrich:  Rest up and follow doctor's orders.  Hope you continue to improve.

Jeff:  Watch out for those sugar crashes, okay?    I remember a student I had who was always trying to balance his blood sugar--I finally started keeping orange juice in the little portable 'fridge in my office, because he'd always get light-headed in choir.  The doctor eventually put him on a pump.

Best to all, prayers for those in need.

If you've had any news program at all on since it happened, you would know about it.

It is a tragedy and prayers need to go out to the people affected, but we DO sometimes wish they'd report OTHER news besides this story...Bang Head

We must always remember, too, that no matter how hienous or digusting it may be, we MUST remember prayers for the individual who snapped and went off the deep end to creat such havoc!

"...for He who is least deserving, let him receive the most..."

We have decided not to go to town,.....on days like this unless absolutely necessary, we tend to sleep alot. SO we will see tghe bedding mroe than the outside world! MOH is on vacation...no need to worry!.

Indeed. It's been splattered all over the radio news here and was the first thing I saw on the TV news after the power here came on. I was actually wondering if the reporter was going to stop long enough to take a breath or pass out. You'd think they'd find something else to talk about.

Good afternoon. It's 87° and feels like 96°. There's a chance of rain. The high will be 95° with a heat index of 108°.

The power in this area was off all morning, reason unknown. At least no one has seen fit to tell me why. It finally came on about forty-five minutes ago. I was going to mow my parents yard this morning but with no power to charge the tractors battery that got nixed and no way am I going to do it in the afternoon with the heat index near 110. My father mentioned it and I told him no way.

Well those of you who saw my last post yesterday got a glimpse of something I started work on yesterday. It's another Frankenstein. So far it consists of an Athearn F7 frame, Proto motor with Proto flywheels, shafts and worms, Proto trucks with Athearn gears throughout, Athearn nickel silver wheels and Athearn worm housing clips. The motor is locked in place with hot glue. Today I hope to get the motor and trucks wired and give it a test run on address 00.

Afternoon folks!

Janie, just a cup of decaf right now, I'll be having dinner with my sister....  She's even paying!  Seems the friend of her's that owns the local top shelf Mexican restaurant in Canandaigua sent his daughter to my sister's summer Art lessons and is paying her for it by giving her a rather nicely sized tab at the restaurant.  Since it is her favorite place to eat anyway.......

Darren, thanks for the cab ride in the old Goose!  Cool!!!

We have been having a nice light rain here most of the day.  Gotten a third of an inch so far and they say it should continue until 8PM or so.  You can see the lawns coming back to life in the neighborhood.  The corn has got to love it!  Our normal July rainfall is usually 4.35" and we have had all of .66" so far so we have along ways to go to get caught up!

Here are a few photos of the 1941 vintage Rochester Gas & Electric 45 Tonner in service last night.  She still has a few problems that need to be ironed out before she goes into full service, but they hope to use her on Diesel Days in August.

Evening All,

Spent a good part of the day weathering my diesel equipment and taking my parents out to lunch. Had a good time. I will probably go to the club tomorrow for a little bit. I should find out my schedule at work for Sept-Jan this coming week. I'm not holding my breath on a good set of postings.

Ray- That 45 tonner looks great. I think you are pretty lucky to be able to volunteer your time on a real RR.

Tom in CA- I sent you a message. Great job on that locoBow

Ulrich- I hope you are doing better.

Garry- Hope you are well.

Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

I got the new Frankenstein F unit wired and tested. It doesn't have a decoder yet so I ran it forward and backward around the layout under address 00. It runs beautifully. Right now it's got an F3B shell on it. It still needs some weight, coupler pockets and couplers and a decoder.

Evening guys

Another busy day for me. Work, a meeting, then back to work for pressure washing. The pressure washer hose broke so I got another one, and then I realized the sprayer was cross-threaded and corroded with the old hose. So nothing got done

Ken, On another forum I'm on, someone actually had a NIB stewart F9 A/B in DRGW for $60. I can't find the ad anymore though. I don't think it ever sold. The ones I got from you are already soaking in alcohol.

As for the SD7, try ditching the factory board. mine is giving me all sorts of fits.

Curt, Those look really good.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Time for me to call it a night. Weather alert says we may get some bad storms tonight with a 50% or better chance of rain with locally heavy rain possible. Heavy and frequent lightning is possible with wind gust to near 40 mph. See y'all tomorrow.
