Good Morning All,

Vincent, Decoder pro software is a free download if you lost it.

Ray, how much will those panels save on your electric bill?

Tom, very nice paint job, you could leave the pineapple dusting and just put a string of Tropicana reefers behind the locomotive….

We have another heat advisory today, I think its been 4 days in a row now where the heat + humidity may cause health issues for some people.  Huge contrast to last summer where it rained almost every day.

A friend referred me to a guy he knows that runs a kennel in Akron that just happens to have a 8 week old Chocolate female Labrador puppy that needs a good home.  Dorothy and I will head down there Wednesday evening to see if the puppy will adopt me.  Dorothy and I were discussing names last night and she is forbidding me from naming the new dog Katrina.   She said the nickname KAT might traumatize the puppy later in life…..

Heartland Division CB&Q

Galaxy ... Glad you are looking out for Ulrich. Hope we hear from him soon. ... .

...Today, I went to Nashville, TN to my heart doctor. Next week I see the heart surgeon. The week after that will be surgery. This will be my 5th heart operation, and it is more extensive than my other 4. So, I expect to be resting throughout August. Generally, I have been doing okay, but this is something needing to be done as soon as possible, By September, I should be okay again. I am very thankful for extra life I have received because my various heart treatments in recent years.

Yes, ULRICH has confided in me and I am not really at liberty to speak it, but for better or worse, Let just say he NEEDS our Thoughts ANd Prayers EVERYBODY!!

Sounds Like YOU, TOO, WIll need our Thoughts and prayers!!! SO we will add you to the list as heart surgery isn't anything to bat an eye at...

The Prayer Candle is now lit for ALL those in need!!!Angel

Good morning, Diners.  Yesterday turned out quite pleasant, in the low 80's.  It was plenty warm climbing last night.

Ray,  Your plywood mount looks like a good idea.  And yes, on our layout, the  tortoises came  after the turnout, and after one  of our later additions to the layout. Thanks for the photos.

I  finally got  my Walthers order  placed.  What  a procrastinator I can be.

Off  to the pool,

Sue

Good morning. It's 77° and the humidity is 92%. We have a chance for rain. The high will be 92° but it'll feel like 107°.

Nothing planned for today. I can now hold a screwdriver fairly steady so the meds are doing their job. I may jump into a project or two later.

(picking self up off the floor after rolling around laughing with Lee at Ray’s 12 teeth crack)

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and some peach cobbler please. Thanks

Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 100. Local guessers are saying heat index values as high as 105- 110.

OK, where was I? Oh ya,

Lee- I’ll try the large spray bottle thing. The ballasting with an eyedropper isn’t that bad, but the larger scenic cover  is um, quite tedious.

Why’s Tom wearin a sweater? Oh cool down in his area. Say, speaking of him,

Tom- Your newest baby looks pretty sweet! And as always, I sure do like that bridge.

Wish I had space for a bridge like that. Unfortunately, my world is not big enough for that.

Yes Ulrich is in my prayers as is all who are suffering with old or new health issues and of course those who are now or soon dealing with surgeries. Whether I mention it or not rest assured you're in there.

Yesterday I chose to replace said garage door opener. (works like a champ too) Why yesterday? Well, the weather was almost identical to today’s. Silly gooses. Why would I not choose to w**k in a closed in no breeze area on the hottest two days of the week. Makes sense to me. I only wish the grass was in need of mowing today as it may cool off abit tomorrow.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

You guys ever feel like you need a break from model railroading sometimes? I feel like that now. Not alot of motivation to do anything railroad related. Might just take a break for a couple weeks until the motivation comes back.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a raisin bran muffin with real butter and a cup od dark roast coffee in my R&GV RR mug.  Please and thank you Ma'am!

Currently 88 %&$&^ °F outside at 10:30 in the morning.......  Nice bright sunny day too....  No rain in sight around here.  I will be putting off the outside w*rk I need to do for another day at least.  Of course that means time in the cool basement where I keep the trains!  Thumbs Up

Lee, at current local electric rates (11.1¢ per KwH) I should save around $520 per year.  However I can assure you the rates will go up over the next 30 years so it should be more as the years go by.  The system is a 4.32 kW one and the total cost of the project is $16,870.  State Grants and the Federal Tax Credit will lower my cost to $7,273.  If the cost of electric stays exactly the same it will pay for itself in 14 years.  However as the cost of electricity goes up (It will) they figure it will pay for itself in 10 to 11 years...  The system should be good for at least 30+ years.  One of the questions last night was about the weight of the system and if the roof can support all that weight.... The engineer from the company I'm using flipped through some pages and said the system will put an extra 2lbs. per square foot on the roof.  In other words much less than the weight of the old asphalt shingles did.  The steel roofing is much lighter than the asphalt (which had 3 layers BTW) as well.  So, the roof load will be less than what was on the roof before I replaced it.

Brief history of our times:  Televisions became flatter, people became rounder.

Prayers going out for Ulrich and several others around here in need!

Later!

Afternoon folks!

Flo, a tall cold glass of Iced Tea would hit the spot right now!

We done hit 99°F for a bit earlier this afternoon right about the time I left to go over to the Mennonite Farm Stand a couple miles down the road.  The summer squash was half cooked by the time I got home.  Cooled off a bit now, it is a pleasant 97°F out there.  My two little window units are running full blast to keep the house down to 76° at the moment...  May get some thunderstorms over night.

Got an email earlier which was a copy of an email being sent to the Project Coordinator for the solar project from the City of Geneva Code Office with the paperwork needed for the Permit!  The short form they sent is only 49 pages long I think.  The project coordinator emailed me that this was by far the most extensive permit application he has ever seen in his 21 years with the company.  He said, Don't worry he will get through it....  Then said, " I will give him plenty of paperwork in return to make his assessment."  Hee, hee, hee....Thumbs Up

I am doing some rebuilding down in the layout rooms and need to take out a small crosspiece I will not need as it blocks where a tortoise needs to go...  Spent an hour looking for my jig saw......  Have no idea where it is???

Later!

Well, WEll

I never did say that just after I called Roto Rooter yesterday at 3 pm ann asked whne he would be here cuz "afternoon is fading away fast" she siad "oh you are his next customer"...Yeah right I thouhgt,,, then sure enouhg in 5 mins there she was calling to say he was on his way! {Now was he really and my timing good, or did they get a move on when I called????} He was one person happy with his job..not a personable fellow, but did his work I guess..

Darren...good littel video you put there.

Ray- in the "interest of reducing your paperwork...we have created this 2,975 page document for you to fill out..." Better be careful...of they will require you to get a permit to get a permit to permit you to get a permit. At elast they/you are pulling permits and not going under false pretenses "no permit is needed" by the installer!! Mike "Make it Right" Holmes would be SO proud!!

Lazy hot day for us..nothing but a few dishes accomplished and a few more piled up...we have slept on/off all day...both of us.

For those of you who are marreid and putting up with each other {like me and MOH} then you know what Lydia Netzer says is true: Marriage is not fair..some one is always getting more, doing less or enjoying more than the other at any given time. Marriage has no known ending..it will end when one of you dies. {save for those who get divorced I guess}. MArriage has no time off..you are working at it every minute of every day to make it work..there is no vacation or time off {not even for good behavior}. Marriage has no winning awards to gain. You can compare to other marrieds, and rate yours comparatively, but in marriage there is no "take the cake". Marriage has no real rules. You may want to "follow the rules' to be sure you are doing it right, but there aren't any. To sum it up: marriage is tough, endless, unfair with no rules or rewards. But if you answer or compare to no one, if you live for and take your other half as a part of yourself, if you define what is happiness for you two and no one else, if you live and share life your way with the special person you have found, it will all be worth it. SO to speak.  MOH and I have put up with each other for 12 years, 10 legally and just re-upped leagally again,so we are now more "stuck with each other" than ever before,,,and we wouldn't have it any other way! Now, if it just lasts as long as we would like it too......Whistling

 Evening Dinners!

 Flo, one Beer pleases.

Felt pretty bad today, did not get much done. Jeffery now that I am watching my blood sugar I find I am lite headed when it is lower than when it is higher. Lowest level today was way to high at 185, but when it was 225 (was bad last night and had ice cream very late) I felt better? Does it take a while for the body to get uses to lower sugar level's? If I feel lite headed at 185, I wonder how I would feel if it was 105? If I ever see a real Doctor I will ask about changing my med's.

Work Front Stop by the shop yesterday and Dave told me I still has a job. But then again, he lies! While I don't know if it is true or not I have been told he takes a hit on his bonus if there is a employment claim. Visited with a few of the mechanic and they where happy to see me.

Got my Settlement Monday! It helps, but rather have a paycheck coming in at the same time.

Train Front Took apart the MRC F7 A, why didn't they steal the Athearn design like all the other companies? This is not my Photo but was posted for me when I was asking about MRC engines.

See the copper grid? That screws to the chassis and then it screws to the motor? It is the motor mount! Motor does look like a A Line, but I could be wrong, hope I am not.

Anyone at the dinner uses the MRC Sounder sound only decoder? I asked in the DCC section and only got 2 answers. Posted on the main page and nothing? I know, MRC Decoders stinks. Just wondering if there quality has gotten any better?

See you all later, we have a Pizza coming now that I am rich! Whistling

Evening guys

Well my computer is on the fritz again. The screen goes white or a split second all the time. Not just this page either.

Garry, Good luck with the surgery

Lee, My computer kinda sucks. IE is a chore for it and I don't think decoder pro can fix the decoder if it doesn't respond on the main. I think this decoder is bad too. Maybe I should get the 4 pound supermagnet off of my bench, that might be why decoders are failing like mad.

Ken, The MRC sounder is cheap for a reason. However it's the only sound-only decoder that's still made. Sound is kinda sucky, but it does work fairly well. I'm trying to find a few of the soundtraxx ones for EMD 567s. BTW, I have 1 HO scale cuda. Model power makes them, but they are about $5 each.

Computer is going crazy, I'll check back in later.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good Evening Diners,

A pleasant 80F, sunny day here which is a lot nicer than it will be later in the week as we are expecting 95. Had a nice, rainy day on Sunday which should have meant RR time but mostly turned out to be TV time.

Gary, sorry to hear that you need more heart surgery. Hope it goes well and fixes whatever problems you are having.

Barry, fingers crossed on your treatment too.

With all the major health problems of some of you the sudden appearence of floaters in one eye last week seems trival but I did get it checked as it can be a warning of a detached retina. Anyway looks like it is just floaters but I did find out from the opthamologist that those air puff eye pressure machines that optomitrists use aren't very accurate. The puff machine said my eye pressure was fine in April but turns out it is a little high so I'm on a watch for glaucoma. I will have everything re-checked in 6 weeks. My father had it so I know that if you catch it early it can be controlled just fine and that was with meds they had in the '60s.

I've nearly finished my N scale station so I will certainly beat my end of July timetable. The Atlas station is likely a fine kit in HO but they just shrunk it down for N and many parts are just too small to hold and fit well. I'll reserve final judgement when it is done.  I have been running the HO a bit. Next up is to install the hydro poles on the HO layout.

Ken I answered your question on MRC sounders on the main forum. A lot of the experience and complaints about MRC are from people who used early versions that likely were junk but that is the same as saying you once had a Ford that gave you trouble so all Fords in perpetuity are junk. I had several and no problems with any. The sound in a MRC sound decoder is far better than Digitrax in my opinion. They really are poor. Motor control is fine though.

It's going to take a little while for your body to adjust to the level it's supposed to be at. Your doc may have to adjust your dosage. For a while I didn't do well at any level below 170. Now I do reasonably well at 63 if I don't push it. I try to keep it between 70 and 160. That keeps the doc out of my hair. I have to inject 100 units of insulin a day, all at once plus take pills twice a day. If you want ice cream find a sugar free kind or no sugar added. The regular stuff is a definite no-no. Avoid late night snacks. Any snack should have little or no sugar. Avoid high amounts of starch. Follow the Glycemic index (GI). The higher the number the less of you should consume. A lot less. It doesn't take much to blow your diet and your blood sugar out of the water.
High GI: 70 and above: At the top of the index are white bread, most white rices, corn flakes, extruded breakfast cereals, glucose, maltose, maltodextrins, white potato, pretzels.
Medium GI: 56 - 69: At the mid-point are whole wheat products, pita bread, basmati rice, grapes, sucrose, raisins, pumpernickel bread, cranberry juice, regular ice cream.
Low GI: 55 or less: At the low point are most fruits and vegetables; legumes; some whole, intact grains; nuts; tagatose; fructose; kidney beans; beets; chickpeas.

Good Morning All,

90+ today with high humidity; however, a cold front is meandering its way across the lake and should bring T Storms, hail, high winds, and cooler temperatures to the area this afternoon or evening.

Vincent; 4 pound super magnet??? Do you still have fillings in your teeth or are those stuck to the magnet, LOL.

I’m not sure who is more excited about me going to the kennel tonight, ok, yes I do; the girls at work and Dorothy have already informed me that I’m going to bring that puppy home tonight.  We shall see.  I did pick out a name: Katja (pure).  Back up name is: Kikka (mistress of all).

Anyone hear from Ulrich?

Good Morning All,

81F here already with the high to be in the 90's and thunderboomers predicted for later. Elkhart Lake was a disaster for me start to finish but the band they had at the restaurant  was awesome.

Our prayers for Barry, Garry, and Ulrich. Sorry to hear about your troubles. And Jeff and Ken as well though it's good to hear Ken is getting to grips with the blood sugar thing. Yes Ken, all these changes will take time for your body to adapt to.

Lee - good luck with the puppy visit - hope it goes well.    Catch Y'all later.   J.R.

Good morning, Diners.  I have time for a large coffee before I head to work.

Garry,  My dad had so many heart surgeries that I lost count.  They allowed him to live almost 90 years.  My hopes are that you have a speedy recovery.  Enjoy your modeling time while you are healing.

Lee,  HaHa.  The pool is at the health club.  I have measured for a pool, but then who would clean it?  If we lived in an area where we had sun 300 days a year, it might be different.

Ray,  With all the money you are spending on the roof, it is a good thing the tree is gone.

My lumber order has been shipped.  Maybe I can finish my car shop during my time off in August.

Well well

It was not even 10 am when i got home adn its 85*.

the grocery shopping is done.  Spent $106. Didn't get much either. Sigh

With the drought this year ALL Food costs are likely to go up...Bang Head

Well, MOH went to run errands wtihout me..MOH doesn't like the grocery store as work is in anoter branch to the chain we shop at. SO I do the grocery shopping alone...but MOH apparently couldn't wait for me to get home..out shopping again..just to be mean I should  make MOH go out with me to Sam's club later  {which we woulda done soon anyway}.

MAybe tomorrow or Friday we go down to Steamtown and nose around...gotta check to see if they are running steam or not. Probably not,,,they have such few hours for steam to run.

Will run aload of laundry here shortly.

We will see what we shall see when we see it. {how profound}

Later

Good morning. It's already 84° with a heat index of 93° and it's not even 10:00 am! The high will be 95° but will feel like 110°. Probably be able to cook burritos on the sidewalk today. There's a small chance of rain.

Woke up early this morning in the middle of a sugar crash. Blood sugar level was 54. I enjoyed a bowl of chicken flavored Ramon noodles while watching a video about Tony Lash's MTH Hi-Rail layout. Only two reasons I didn't go to O-Scale were space and money. I don't have much of either one. Blood sugar is still low but is a more manageable 70. I'm working on that. Concentration is out the window as my attention span is about thirty seconds. Got a train running right now led by the GP38/SD27J/8-40B. May do some layout work today. The day is young yet. Got my electric bill yesterday. There's probably going to be some envious remarks and a few thuds from bodies hitting the floor. It's a whopping $25! I'll take an electric bill like that anytime.

Sue,

Duh, you hire a pool boy.

I've been trying to hire a pool girl, but Dorothy claims I have to have a pool first......
